Wow! I took a look into this and im pretty amazed! Ive just posted in the OS forum about Googles plans but this is another good thing..Gmail for business..now they can capture the business market and if you think bad about Gmail and how Google uses the information it stores..this could be a terrible thing!!Imagine Google could have everything a comapny sends by email to be able to sell on or use for thier own personal gain.....hmmmm scarey?Mark420;))

Yes your right my ISP has repleced all old Motorola modems with new Thompson models and lots of users are much happier with the service now..It seems they just had overwhelming evidence that it was better to replace them all than keep getting complaints about crappy modems :DMark420;)

OMG now I KNOW I am old!!(Weeps into his kb and tears out grey hairs!!) Yes I saw this on the BBC the other day and it really got my thinking back to the good ole days... Here is a brief history of my computers... I was lucky my father was a techy too..my first computer was this... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ He bought it in kit form and soldered it up on the kitchen table much to the annoyance of my mum! He got bored of it after a month cos we only had one TV in the house..mum and sister didn't quite have the patience to watch us try to program this beast for hours on end!! but I could use it after school when my sister wasn't so bothered to watch tv so it became by intro into computers.. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Then another Sinclair upgrade http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Then I switch my allegiance to the Commodore Camp.. http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=65 Man I loved my Amiga!! I had two 3.5 floppies and saved up for ages to get the first HD in my school!!I remember the day 9 kids from school amazed as I booted Amiga Workbench and loaded a demo I made from my 20MB HD )) Here's the first PC I used.. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I used it at my first job after school in 89-I was designing PCB s (Printed Circuit Boards) on it. LOL I was 16 and the only person apart from the senior designer that could work a PC so I got amazing experience doing really complex stuff that the traditional PCB designers could only dream of..it seemed to be a brave new world of PC tech taking over!! So It seems I've been using a PC based computer for 17years now !! and computers for 23 years. And yes it IS a brave new world.... Mark420;))) -
I've been looking at the poll above in this section and other Google related posts..thought I would add a new discussion..I used to work at a large European ISP and we have endless meetings for years about ASP( Application Service Providers) and how we could make money from renting application to users of our ISP.Years later..still no one is really making money or taking advantage of the market there is out there.I used to be into Citrix and thought that would eventually win a big market share but like many other great ideas...MS did real bad harm to their chances..I am into Linux but I feel that Linux needs a household name to bring it to the masses-its seen as a geeks tool still;( even though with releases such as Madrivia and Suse they are even more usable and user friendly than Winblows..with all the help you could ever need off-line and on-line so to say that there's no support for Linux is rubbish ( on a side note one day at work for a giggle we phoned technical support at MS in the USA with all our licence codes contracts etc for some technical support on server problem we knew the answer to-it was a simple problem requiring a patch and a reboot..it took me 3 phone calls lasting 35 mins and about 1 hour of net searching filling out on-line forms etc to get the answer we already knew..We did the same thing with Novell for support on Suse..withing 3 clicks on their webpage we had a local number-turned out to be 5 miles away, the guy couldn't help but transferred me over to the technical support in USA on the price of my local call!! got through to a guy who solved the problem in 10 mins who then transferred me back to the local agent who wanted to know if we were satisfied!!-now THATS service!!)Google is more powerful than Citrix and Linux and are in a great place to challenge MS for the worlds biggest market- OS and Office.I see on the boards here lots of rumours that Google are making their own OS...yes this is 95% on the cards!! and I am pretty confident it will be a Linux flavour ) and you gotta be sure Google Desktop-Earth-Google Player-Talk-Picasa-Gmail-Blogger-Web Accelerate-Av-Calender-Gadgets etc etc will be integrated along with the jewel in their crown Google Office..Google are being clever at the moment because all of these products are free to download atm..and look they are ALL betas. What I am getting at is ...Google are making a TON of software right now..all from different teams that can be integrated together with Linux under the hood to create a very powerful and user friendly OS..especially if you've tested all the software years before like Gmail and Earth and have data stored on Googles servers already :oNow comes the next step...all the Betas stop..you can only use them inside the Google OS..forcing you to download it or buy it..I see Google giving you the OS for free on a download..$15-20 on a cd and then here's the kicker...all the programs you are used to and rely on...you will need a Google account to use them..Then you will hire out the software you need on a monthly or yearly basis. For the predicted amount of users it will have the payment per month could be really small like $2 or so..think of 50 million users spending $2 a month = $100mill a month X12 = $1200mill a year. And that just a conservative estimate..I think the hardest thing for Google to do is to get a billing platform running not altering a Linux Os and bolting in all the Google apps..But hey Google have some real smart programmers and I hope this wouldn't be too problematic. They have a market of millions just waiting for them to sort this out I am sure!! this hopefully will be the nail in the coffin for MS and Winblows!!!Remember there's been a market of millions waiting years now for Vista...and I think its no coincidence Gates has stepped down from overall control at MS..I think he sees what I see...BIG trouble on the horizon with Vista sales..Didnt I see the other day Ms allow a countries govt to buy all of its pirated copies of Winblows for $2 a head? look at MS chase the money Imagine MS fighting Google-The rest of the Linux world and Apple for rights to your OS and applications.I think the lumbering beast that MS has become will have to retreat to its cave and sit on its ever dwindling pile of gold!My thoughts on the future of the OS-Mark420

Wireless Congestion In My Room! Damn this technology
Markymark2 replied to Omkar™'s topic in Computer Networks
i live in an apartment in Amsterdam and I have experinced terrible wireless problems because people next door that have wireless landline phones..as someone else pointed out they operate on the same frequency or something close enough to effect wireless routers..At a mates house ive even seen his wireless router cause problems as the neighbour picks up the phone and walks to the back of the house where his pc based..My apartment seems to be in a "bubble" of wireless..I can pickup 5 diffent wireless internet connections and it seems about 3-4 diffent wireless phone connections..The option must be for you to be able to change which frequency you use locally on your hardware-just wish the manufactures of these products agreed with me ;((Mark420 -
Any MS Word Plugin For Writing Movie Scripts ?
Markymark2 replied to theillestmc12's topic in Software
Maybe Notepad+ could help you? Notepad++ Homepage ITs Open source so no money to pay it has many features for editing many documents at once in the same window etc etc Im sure in that you could add the characters names at the start of each line with a couple of clicks..by default it has many programming languages that it can understand such as SQL..so if you type "Select" which as an SQL term it will highlight it in blue becasue it recognises it..im sure you can add new languages to it so you could make one called Scripts..then add your characters names in there...add them to the clipboard..and volia each time you come to a new line you could paste out the name out of the clipboard..and the persons name will also be highlighted into a different colour for ease of reading.. Hope this helps.. Mark420 -
Well done Lembot- a spiffy guide to first time creators of Databases. Also If I might add something of my own...please guys if your looking at starting a database project for the first time please look at MySQL first..Im pretty confident it will be what you need. The reason I say this is because most ppl start off in MS Access because its already on thier pc as part of an office install and they get bogged down in the crappy way access runs.MySQL is free to use has lots of great GUI packages to help you build your database and make scripts, views, quiries on it.If you couple Open Office to MySQL then you can manage data in spreadsheets etc with complete ease...unlike trying to get live data over to Excel in the Ms world ;((-Its an absolute hell!!Also it makes sence to use MySQL if your posting here...because Xisto uses MySQL on thier servers so as part of your hosting package you have free access to it.Hope this helps...Mark420;)

Like most players of 1.6 that have upgraded to CSS source I have found the graphics great and some of the new maps and remakes of old maps are just great!!but like many other ppl I find that the gameplay is lacking somewhat compared to 1.6.Also even when it first came out and was at the hight of its popularity the best source servers were not full all the time like in 1.6I have found some great local servers (I live in holland) and met a lot of players there-its nice to have a game and hangout with them..It is a good game if youve not played 1.6 to death..if you have its only average imho.Mark420;)

Well I have been using Opera for many years now but at work i HAVE to use IE ;(( (not all IT ppl at work understand the power of the Opera I must say IE7 gives you nothing that Opera hasnt been running for years now or to that matter the poor child on the block -Firefox. Also I hear that IE7 will fail the Acid test- Acid Test Test Opera 9 is the most compliant browser on the market at the moment I guess Firefox will come in 2nd and IE7 well down list behind Safari etc..etc.. I would also be very wary of using IE7 untill bugs and huge security holes are plugged, I can only imagine the amount of ppl writing hacks and exploits for IE7.IE6 has taken how many years to make it "secure"? I say "secure" as in "Microsoft Secure" a new phrase im coining Demonhawk also pointed out it cannot be downgraded to Ie6 again (maybe a total rebuild of Windows will solve this ) and its probably impossible to uninstall it so that your copy of Windows is IE free? I will not be joinign the bandwagon I will be sitting on my old trusty Opera Jalopy and having a fine time with all my added features...can i just say Widgets!!-soo cool!! Im even trying to write one myself ) Mark420
