Love the 600mLaptop OverheatingI've had my Dell 600m for 6 years now and am just starting to have overheating problems. I sprayed out the fans with compressed air and the problem went away temporarily. Under the cpu socket doesn't seem to be getting hot. It feels like under the RAM and HDD is the hottest. I have an app the measures the temperature sensor for the HDD and I've seen it get up to 65C. I've tried running off a live USB, but that's too slow. I may look for new HDD and sodimms that run at lower operating temperatures.

I've never been able to successfully update my graphics drivers for my nVidia 8800 GTS SLI cards. A friend assembled the computer and I don't know if he did something wonky to it or what but it's driving me crazy. The driver version is 7.15.11.7516 which is from like 2008 I think!I tried to update using the latest SLI update on nVidia's website first. After the restart, the display seems fine and I have control for about 1.5 minutes until the display stops responding to keyboard commands, you can still move the mouse but can't click on anything.I reboot in safe mode, do a system restore back to the driver update and try again. This time i disable one card in the nVidia control panel and update a single card with the latest graphics driver (not the SLI one) at nVidia's website. After the restart, same thing, frozen display.I've looked online but can't seem to find anything that can help Does anyone know what is causing this? Thanks!

Agree with Paul and Ron. I've had Carbonite for a couple years, and been happy. But recently crossed the 200GB threshold. They claim my upload speed is now 100kbps. I'm seeing more like 10-15 kpbs. It's painsfully slow. Does anyone have a better option for online backup of large drives? Does mozy throttle down speeds the same way? It's crazy. I'd happily pay more for higher backup rate (just for the convenience of it all), but Carbonite won't even let you do that.

The last two WCW games made were made by EA, I know they were for N64, and possibly PS1. NO NO NO , its not because you've used cheats allot , and no you don't have to restart the whole game again , its because if you are plyaing with the XBOX live Or 360 in every device there is a game trainers ander the main menu just go to it and choose all the Games under the title of GTA or grand theft auto and make sure you turn them passwords off. and start the game again . Or its better if you just turn off the device or the console and then turn it on by holding the operating button long enough just to turn it on without goiong to the XBOX Game Main menu , and don't try to do any password just do the og log mission without any , just go there naturally by normal gaming driving , and vuallah its working. and if you are playing with the playstation I don't belive this glitch is in it, and if so , just restart the game and play the mission normally without any passwords.

Bull****, I paid for a liscense and since my laptop craped out I moved my harddrive to a new laptop and I cannot get into windows enough to install new drivers for chipsets and the keyboard and mouse won't work!. All I get is the screen to active and no keyboard or mouse to click the button. Absolute crap, if I could get it to activate then it would be no problem as of now I'm in a catch 22. And no I will not wipe and reinstall everything I have alot of industrial programming software that is linked to the xp install and it will literally take me months to reinstall everything if I even can. Absolute crap.

Knowing that God is the author and the finisher of my faith doesn't mean that a good encouraging word is not needed. When I googled and this article popped up I was truly blessed and the scriptures re affirmed that God is in control, continue to speak his word to my situation and don't look at the issue but at God. Defragging pagefile without special toolsHow To Defrag MFT, Pagefile etc. On Boot?It's not as easy as using a special tool, but you can defragment the pagefile without installing any new software. This guide will give the steps to make sure you get your system as well-defragmented as possible and help prevent the page file from fragmenting in the future Step 1: Disable the pagefile. Make sure you click "set" before you click OK. Step 2: Do not reboot when asked. Run msconfig from Start->Run or the Start menu's search box (depending on version). Select "diagnostic startup" then click OK. Reboot when asked. Step 3: After reboot, close any programs that msconfig didn't disable (some antivirus will do this). Open a cmd prompt as administrator. Step 4 (XP): Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc. When the task manager appears, go to the processes tab, select Explorer.Exe, then click end task. Confirm this in the popup. Then close the task manager. Step 4 (Vista/7): Click the Start orb. Hold Ctrl+Shift while right-clicking the shutdown button. Select "Exit Explorer" from the small menu that appears. Step 5: In the command prompt, type 'cleanmgr' and press enter. Select the C: drive (or whatever drive you use for the pagefile), and go through the disk cleanup to free some extra space. **Warning: Vista users: If you use hibernation or hybrid sleep, do not check "Hibernation file cleaner"! It will most likely break hibernation and it's not exactly a piece of cake to get it back.** Step 6: Type 'defrag c:' (replace c: if you use a different drive for your pagefile). If you want to see more detail about the before and after statistics, use 'defrag c: -v' instead. Note that you will not see any status updates while it is defragmenting in this mode. If you need to cancel for some reason, just press CTRL+C. Step 7 (XP): When the defrag finishes, type 'explorer' to bring back your taskbar and desktop. Re-enable your pagefile. You can either let Windows manage the pagefile size, or set your own size. I reccommend setting it to a fixed size (minimum and maximum size the same) at between 1.5 to 2 times your amount of system RAM (the "reccommended" size listed in the page file settings will be about 1.5x your amount of RAM. Be sure to hit "Set" before you click OK. **I reccomend setting the page file to a fixed size as described above because if the page file does not grow and shrink, it will remain unfragmented permenantly. If you have the disk space to spare, you can go as large as you want with the pagefile, but between 1.5x and 2x your RAM is the magic number in my experience. If it's set too low, you can always increase it manually.** Step 7 (Vista/7): You can either follow the XP directions, or you can skip restarting explorer by typing 'systempropertiesadvanced'. Then set the pagefile as described in the XP directions. Step 8: In the cmd prompt, run 'msconfig' and change it back to "normal startup". Click OK. Reboot when prompted. There you go, your pagefile (and the rest of the drive it's on) is thouroughly defragmented. I do this every time I install Windows on any computer (with a fixed-size pagefile), and the pagefile never becomes fragmented again. -reply by TuxRug

this is an old topic but acually you can do a complete reformat of a drive in the c promt just type help in cmd and there is a command called format I used it before to format a external hard drive to fat32 with the help of a format fat32 program I used other wise you can only format it in regular NTFS format. -reply by cmd

I have the same laptop and the same problem. The issue is a faulty standby switch - if you close the lid and open it the computer will be fine for a few seconds. Remove the hinge plate and beside the right hinge is a small box with a little white needle. Press the needle down, let go and the screen should come on for a few seconds. Replace that switch.
