  1. Wow, the sample took a long time to load!As always, awesome tutorial! I don't have the opportunity to try it out yet, but I will on the weekends.I think it'll be cool if you show the images that were preloaded instead of displaying the messages...
  2. 1. Add the following code between your style tag:a /*normal link color - it's at white now */{ color: #fff;}a:active /*color to show when the user is clicking on the link */{ color: #00DCFF;}a:link /*no idea what this is, but i set it to white anyway */{ color: #fff;}a:visited /*color to show when the user has been to a page */{ color: #194592;}a:hover /*color to show when the user has the mouse over the URL, but not clicking it */{ color: #19D6FF;}I got my colors with my little application: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Feel free to use it to find the right colors to decorate your links. 2. Yeah, kickme.to is pretty cool, but if your site ever has loads of visitors (thousands of unique hits daily), then you might want to get rid of kickme.to because when someone bookmarks a frame like kickme.to or .tk, then the browser will only take the user to your front page instead of the page where they bookmarked. This is bad because if you have a link that's really buried, then it might be hard to find it again when a visitor comes back. Also, like I mentioned before, browsers have autocomplete, so all they really need to do is type in "kwi," and the browser will show all the links that the visitors have seen on your site.
  3. Okay, today (05.05.05) on the shoutbox, I shouted a sentence, and then fsastraps said that I was wrong. At first, I thought it was because the adjective did not agree with it's noun in gender, but he told me that it was another issue. Sentence: My translation: I know there are a few miscellaneous errors in there such as the lack of accent marks and the use of a fake word ("forum"), but those don't matter. fsastraps' translation: Now, what I want to know is, do adjectives in Spanish come after or before the noun that they are modifying? In my sentence, the adjective new ("nuevo") comes after the noun that it is modifying ("forum"). This makes sense because I remember telling myself in Spanish I (I'm in Spanish 3 now) that Spanish is similar to Vietnamese, which I speak, adjective-wise because the adjectives come after the noun that they are modifying. However, there is an exception to this: As you can see, the adjective "mi" ("my") comes before the noun that it's modifying, house ("casa"), but this happens because "mi" is a possessive pronoun. Anyways, please do not reply to this thread if you have no idea what the word Spanish means, or you have never spoke it in your life. I want serious answers only, and I will close this thread once someone experienced tells me that I'm right. Edit: Added accent marks to make some people comfortable...
  4. I agree with what the other poster said, "nice design". There are some improvements you could make that could enhance your site even more: First, you could align your entire site so that the content is centered. In my opinion, it looks cooler to have your entire site centered. Second, you could make the links another color because it does not match the site at all, and it's hard to tell what the links say because of contrast. You can make them white to match the color of your buttons... Third, you could move the ads to the bottom of the page because it sort of gets in the way of the content, and it's pretty intrusive right now. Fourth, you need a title for your site if you want visitors to come (Search Engine Optimization) Fifth, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ doesn't work. Sixth, remove the frame and go with your Xisto subdomain. Your kwire.kickme.to subdomain has 15 characters, and your Xisto subdomain has 16 characters. I think your visitors will be able to handle remembering an extra character. Besides, browsers have autocomplete today, so all they need to remember is "kwi". That's it! Good luck on your site.
  5. I have the URL for the site to which this thread is referring, and I've been testing that site at school to see if it works (yes, I know, that's terrible, but it's not my computer ), and I've found that the site doesn't work anymore...which means good news!
  6. I'd give it a 5/10 because it's not very user friendly. For instance, your footer at the bottom is not centered. Centering it would make it look more professional as it would match the rest of your site (your entire content box is centered). Second, I see several typos on your site. Running this against a spell checker would quickly solve this problem. Third, you use a lot of scripts made by other people on your site. An example of this is the guestbook. The design of your guestbook does not match your site at all (your site background is white, but the guestbook's background is white). Although it's good that your site is interactive, it would be more awesome if you designed the scripts yourself - that way, you will not have any ads on your scripts, and you can say that you made it. Fourth, you could try to make your font a little bigger. I'm on 1024 * 768 (what most users use according to my statcounter), and it already looks quite small. Imagine what people on 1280 * 1024 would see. Fifth, the images don't work: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Sixth, you can try making the links a different color because it's very hard to differentiate between the links and normal text. That's it!
  7. Thanks again, whyme. I'd also like to add that any more referral posts will be deleted without notice. Thank you.
  8. I'd like to add that Java is similar to C and C++ Yeah, that's what I do with a lot of the functions that I don't know - I just type in what they do, and the answer I'm looking for is usually the first result.
  9. I broke my mp3 player once, but luckily, the date to return it was not over, so I was able to get a much better one - Sony. Also, I don't use the traditional mp3 player that everyone has like the iPod, or the iRiver, but I use the CD players that have mp3 capabilities. What's best about my Sony mp3 player is that it can convert songs to "ATRAC3 Plus" which reduces the song down to a couple of kilobytes while maintaining that high quality. This is an awesome feature because I can hold up to 400+ songs - a much better deal than some mp3 players out there. The only down side that I can think of is that it's not as slim and sleak as the mp3 players, but I can manage with that. Ouch! A virus! A good antivirus software can protect you Mimi iPod?? Sounds girly. 5 30 page documents?? Dang, schools in Canada are hardcore. The longest I had to write here is 6 pages, and I thought I was gonna die... This short quiz can also calculate how long you'll live: https://www.northwesternmutual.com/learning-center/tools/the-longevity-game
  10. I'd give it a 5/10 because it has no content. At first, I thought the page was a splash page, but there are no links on the image. Also, the image is not really centered, so it gives your page an amateur-ish feeling...
  11. Windows Update has never crashed for me - neither on Windows 98 nor on Windows XP. I guess it all depends on the speed of your processor and whether or not your processor can handle the updates or not...
  12. I had a book called SAMS Teach Yourself PHP in 24 Hours. It did not teach me PHP in 24 hours, but I did learn some cool functions with the book. Whatever concept the book did a poor job of explaining, I looked it up on php.netOf course, you can't really learn a programming language if you don't see a PHP script or the code in action, so I went to several script sites and tutorial sites and learned there, too.Good luck on your PHP learning.
  13. Hey, Iarkalwen!Welcome to Xisto! I'm 17 years old, too. Isn't that cool? Also, I used to live in California.Well, welcome to Xisto once again, and I hope you have lots of fun posting.
  14. Can't do that. You cannot put referral links in your post. Referral links in your sig is fine, but it's against the rules to post it: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/5769-terms-of-service-and-acceptable-use-policy/ Search that page for "referral".
  15. This is a spam thread. First of all, you can see which group a person belongs to here: http://forums.xisto.com/members/. Second, you have "Banned" as one of the options. Banned members cannot post. Thread closed.
  16. Thread closed. There is another thread out there with the exact question. Use the search function to find it. Thank you.
  17. Nah, you're an okay guy. Sometimes, I don't like your posts, but time fixes that up nicely. Besides, you wanted to marry me, so I guess I can't really dislike you. irl?
  18. First thing's first: nice site. Second, I think I see your problem. You have two flash files that you are calling: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Well, the former does not exist, so try putting this code on to replace the first logo (top right): <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="56" height="52"> <param name="movie" value="/images/logo_round.swf"> <param name="quality" value="high"> <embed src="/images/logo_round.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://http://www.adobe.com/special/errorpages/404.html; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="56" height="52"></embed> </object> Do the same thing for the second instance of the flash file:<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="56" height="52"> <param name="movie" value="/images/biglogo.swf"> <param name="quality" value="high"> <embed src="/images/biglogo.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://http://www.adobe.com/special/errorpages/404.html; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="56" height="52"></embed> </object>Remember to change the size of the biglogo.swf file because I forgot to look at its size, so I left it the same size as logo_round.swf Hope that helps, and good luck! If you need additional help, feel free to post a reply or PM me.
  19. Stay on topic. I'd give your sig a 6/10 because I don't know anything about Photoshop, so I just gave you the same rating as Johnny. However, I do think that you should choose a better font and maybe dress it up a little. If you take away the font, everything else looks fine, so the problem, or rather, what's hindering you from getting a high score is the font. Just the opinion of an unexperienced PS user.
  20. One question: do you have a demo of this - a web page where you used all this, so we all can test it?
  21. Yeah it does, but I voted for damann just to spite johnny. Man, I'm evil. By the way, do you two know each other...like in real life?
  22. I got my .info domain name for free: http://sangnguyen.info/ It's going to expire in September of this year, and they will start charging me if I don't cancel (which I will), but I got one for free. The reason why it was free is that way back in September of last year, .info domain names were new, and http://www.domainsite.com/ and many other sites were promoting .info domain names by giving them away to users for free. I was one of the lucky people who got the offer. A lot of other people got the offer, and they were pretty greedy (registered the max allowed - 25). If I had thought about batch registering, I could have registered some awesome names, and I would have been rich. Darn.
  23. I like everything that is not made by somebody in hotscripts.com or some other scripts/tutorial site. However, you make it better, I think you should make it graphically appealing...or at least colorfully (word?) appealing. YOu can lose the tables or make the borders 0. That's just my opinion. Also, it'll be awesome if you could integrate that into a site so you can put it on the side of a site or on top...just like Xisto.Since this is an early version, I'll give it an 8/10 just because you made it yourself.Oh, I tried putting a new line in my post, but it didn't work.
  24. To be honest, no, I did not read it, but I will read it over the weekend or some other time when I have...time. Too much school work right now
  25. Oh. My. Gosh. How long did it take you to write that?!Back on topic. I saw this on a site before, but I was too lazy to check the source to see how they preloaded their images. Anyways, I'm going to try this out on the weekends when I have more time.Good stuff man! Keep it up
