    Hey Starscream

Good to see you here again mate

Off topic, Stackoverflow lately seems to have 2 types of people in masses, the idiots & the entitled... I tried getting help only to be shunned by the "smart" people there... Don't get me wrong, some have been really helpful but mostly, if you pose a L1 question, you might get shafted >_>

Coming to your question... I am probably going to be useless since I don't know what you are working with.. But I hope you have already referred to the guide given here :-

velma reacted to Ahsaniqbalkmc in Keyboard Noise Reduction: Possible Options
I don't know whether it is my typing style or my current keyboard and work setup, but there is a significant amount of noise while I type. Lately I am finding my self working in the nights, so the typing noise has become a problem.

I would like to take some steps to get this typing noise reduced so that I don't annoy myself and other people around me. So what are the possible options. The ones I can think of are discussed below, but I don't know which one is more appropriate and practical so I am putting this up for discussion to hear your suggestions on the issue.

    Option 1: Change the keyboard:

The first idea that came into my mind was to change the keyboard and look for something more quiet. So I did what most people would do: I googled....... I tried to look for keyboards that are manufactured with noise reduction as the main goal. Taking into consideration the shear number of keyboards in use today and the different types of markets they are used in, I first thought that there would be a huge number of noise free / silence keyboards but I was amazed to find that there are not much options there. However, thanks to the my little research, I found that there are certain types of kyboards that can help me achieve my goal.

The most commonly used types of keyboards are mechanical keyboards. They are called mechanical because of their key-pressing mechanism and their design. These keyboards have hard plastic as their main component material and thus the keys are solid and make noise when they are pressed. There are two different types of noises produced by these keyboards. One type is produced when the fingers hit the keys. This kind of noise depends on the typing style of the user. The other type of noise is produced when the plastic keys get into contact with the plastic body of the keyboard. This is the kind of noise that cannot be completely removed from mechanical keyboards. It can be reduced by using rubber coating or other stuff but cannot be completely removed.

The other type of keyboards is known by many names such as silicon keyboard, rubber keyboard, foldable keyboard etc. They are made entirely or rubber and can be rolled, folded, twisted etc. Their keys as well as the entire body is made of rubber so they effectively reduce both types of noises. The problem with these keyboards is that they don't have very good typing experience. They keypresses are not consistent and predictable and will get even worse with use. So fast typing is not very practical with these keyboards.

Another type of keyboards, that are not very common are projected virtual keyboards. They are rather new-comers in the keyboard industry and claim that they are the future. A projected virtual keyboard is actually an image of a keyboard projected by a small device onto a flat surface like a table. So practically, there are no keys and no keypresses. Its more like typing on a tablet i.e you just press on a flat surface. I have never used a projected keyboard but from my experience on typing on smartphones and tablets, I can say that the biggest drawback to this type is that there is no feedback and the user has to look at his fingers every now and then to make sure that they are placed correctly. So accuracy would be an issue with these keyboards and they would also require some getting used to. They are also quite expensive and they silenceness is also a question mark because some noise would still be produced when the fingers hit the flat surrface where the keyboard image is projected.

Option 2: Make modifications to the surface where I place my keyboard:

Normally, my keyboard sits on a wooden table and in this case, the noise produced is significant. However, when I place it on my legs, the noise is reduced. So it clearly demonstrates that I can achieve some noise reduction by placing some soft material (foam, rubber, cloth) etc beneath my keyboard. However, I would call this a secondary addition to the noise reduction because even if I place the keyboard on my legs, the noise produced by fingers hitting the keys and the keys hitting the body of the keyboard is still there and still very significant.

Option 3: Change my typing style:

Sometimes when someone is sleeping while I work, I tend to reduce my typing speed so that my fingers would move more slowly and the hitting force on the keys would reuce significantly. I have to admit that the amount of noise produced is significantly reduced. However I don't like doing it because it makes me more conscious about my fingers. The flow of my typing is somewhat lost because more often than not my attention is on my fingers' movement.

These were the options that came into my mind. However, my personal opinion is that I would have to involve all of the above options to achieve maximum results. Fist of all I need to find a keyboard that really does help in reducing the noise without hampering the typing experience and efficiency. Then I need to make some adjustments to my work environment and finally I need to make some adjustments to my typing style.

What do you folks think? I am looking forward for your opinions on the best keyboard for noise reduction as well as other things I can do to achieve my goal.

velma got a reaction from yordan in Why Ssh Access On A Web Host Is Great
Yes, SSH is still available as an addon albeit a paid one.. 11.88 USD per year or 0.99 per month

As for the commands, I find VI icky... Sorry but somehow my brain could never comprehend vim ever..I actually prefer nano over them all, simple and straightforward.

I too prefer the command line over FTP but that is mainly because I am lazy

Personally, perks of command line for me include things like mass permissions change / ownership correction.. Debugging & executing files without the need of a browser .. And the LOGS!!! All those pretty lines of garbled text waiting just for you to read through, always makes me happy

I think all linux administrators would unanimously agree about grep.. One of the most useful search tools... Essential for logs and searching through files

@mastercomputers I think along with those tutorials, you should also cover aspects like creating an error log and reading / understand them.. Personally, I have been dying to write a topic about creating a Virtual Private Server from scratch BUT it requires time that I don't have enough to spare :

velma reacted to sheepdog in Westminster
Even if I hadn't watched the Westminster Kennel Club dog show on TV the other night, by noon the next day I would of known what breed had won. From the time Wesminster ended that evening till noon the next day I had nearly a dozen inquiries for Affenpinschers. This is WAY out of the ordinary, Affen's aren't a well known or common breed, I normally get less than one inquiry a month for them. But it makes a good topic for a discusion on picking the right pet for your family. So often, when something like a new Westminster Champion, or a Tv Show or even just a television commercial, a particular breed will jump up to the attention of the general public, and everyone will want to run out and get one. This is absolutly the WORST way to choose a pet. But I see this all the time. You know all those people who contacted me following the dog show had not taken the time to reasearch the breed, and since they are quite rare, it's unlikely any of them had any experience with this breed. In the case of the Affenpinscher, it might not make a huge difference, Affen's are pretty good natured little dogs and adapt very well to a wide variety of circumstances. Even an unexperienced dog person could probably do ok with an Affen. But oh dear, I dread the day something like a Komondor wins Westminster! Now there's a disaster waiting to happen! Sure, they are cute little balls of white fluff when they are little, but they grow up to be huge raging killing machines, perfect for living with a herd of goats or sheep, but not in a city full of stupid, lawsuite happy people. The most important thing a person can do before getting a dog is to completely understand the specific charectoristics of the breeds you are interested in. Make sure to take everything into consideration. How much time do you have to spend with your dog, not only training, but grooming and exercising. How athletic are you? Could you run an Irish Wolfhound? (pretty unlikely for the average human) Or do you have a big enough yard the dog could get enough exercise? If you are athletic, do you want a dog to jog with you? Or are you more into niceslow walks? Do you already have other dogs in the home? Not all dogs get along with other dogs. And other non dog pets, like cats and hamsters. A lot of breeds consider these other animals prey, and therefore fair game to chase and snack on. Just how much room do you have in your home? What about people in the house who could have allergies? Just how much hair can you stand to have on your furnature, carpets, clothes, and on every single surface area in your home? If you are a neat freak, you sure better find a breed that does not shed heavily. Just exactly what purpose do you want your dog to fill? Just a buddy to snuggle on the couch and watch TV with you, or do you want someone to go hiking with you, or watch over your home and possesions? You also have to consider your financial situation. It's more than the initial purchase price of the puppy. Some breeds are just very high maintense and are more expensive to keep. Bulldogs for example can have all sorts of ailment and can get you into some serious vet bills. The beauty part of purebred dogs is that there are over 400 recognised pure breeds of dogs. All of these breeds have been bred for many generations to develope very specific traits that are instilled into the breed, not only in size and type, but also in temperment. With plenty of good reasearch you can find a breed that is the exact match for your own circumstances and personality. Just make sure you do your reasearch in depth. Read more than one accounting of a breed you are interested in. Think about the source of the information you are listening to. If you are taking the advice of a friend or even a breeder, remember, if they really like a breed they are going to gloss over any down sides to the breed. Even I can be guilty of this one. I am a huge Schnauzer fan. I find it virtually imposssible to say anything bad about this breed, but I'm sure if you find someone who doesn't like that breed they will certainly be able to tell you plenty of negitive things. While I can't say anything bad about a Schnauzer, there are a couple of other very popular breeds that other people just think are wonderful, that I find to be dumber than dirt. Try to actually meet members of the breed in real life. As many members of the breed as you can. There are always going to be some minor personality differences within each breed. And to finish off, when the last class in Westminster was chosen, the best in show from each of the group winners, I told the hubby that there were only 2 dogs in that last all important class that I could even root for, and usually my favorites are last, but amazingly enough, my 2 favorites won! Affen came in first, and the Old English Sheepdog came in reserve grand champion!

There are a few things you need to think out yourself before involving a web designer because you know your project best.

Do you have a particular theme in mind or colors you want to incorporate? Is your logo ready? Logos help in setting up the perfect color palette and theme.
Is your audience from one sect (youngsters, oldsters or mixed)
Is it going to be a static or a dynamic website?
Websites you like. These come in handy since a designer can understand your taste/choice better.
Is it a website that is content driven or graphics driven. Your designer can utilize space best when they know how much space they have.
Deadlines & budgets. Being transparent about your deadlines & budget is very helpful when choosing your designer and also
These are common questions any web designer would ask you to understand the scope of the project. So take your time and let us know when you are ready. We are always happy to help

Just thought I'd post about some of my experiences with Xisto - Web Hosting. I've been with them for a long time now (I started with the free forum posting service and now have a couple of paid sites with them). Well, even though my original service was free, it was excellent. I had full control over my site and as long as I continued to post on the forums, I could keep my free site up and running without having the normal ads that free sites force on their users. That was the first thing that attracted me to Xisto.com (which was the free hosting part of Xisto - Web Hosting at the time).Well, though I liked the price of free, I sometimes found it hard to keep up with both my website and the forum posting, so I decided to pay a yearly price instead of having to post. It was very affordable and I figured my time was better spent on updating my site. They had no problem with this and I was able to keep my same hosting without posting to their forum. Well, since then, I've had to upgrade my bandwidth so the hosting costs a little more, but with the extra visitors I also make more money from my site. I would be happy to upgrade my services again, if the day comes where I need to (hopefully it does!).Anyway, I'd also like to deeply thank their support staff. Yes, they are based out of India and they work on a different time zone than I'm from, so I know most of my tickets aren't going to be responded to right away, but I typically get a response sometime during the night (most often somewhere around 1am - 8am EST). This is within 24 hours most times, except it can be slower during weekends. Also, there's been some recent changes to my hosting, where I needed to ask a LOT of questions. I felt kind of bad about asking so many questions, but Meredith (the staff member I was in contact with) was more than patient with me and ensured me that she was happy to answer all my questions - and she did just that - took the time to fully answer all my questions and concerns despite this being a busy time for them. It's this level of personalized customer service that keeps me happy to host with Xisto - Web Hosting. (The affordable prices and full site control with cPanel help too ) I don't feel like I'm just some random account number to them. I feel like a person because they treat me like one. Yes, support can be a little slow at times, but for a small company based on the opposite side of the world from me, I think it's to be expected.

velma reacted to NateP in Generating Web Traffic With Articles
For new webmasters just getting started online, traffic generation is one of the biggest mysteries they face. Most new webmasters look for free advertising networks or maybe traffic exchange web sites. Rarely however does a new webmaster find a source of quality traffic for free. One method for generating web site traffic that is unknown to most webmasters is a form of advertisement called article marketing. This form of advertising is very effective if done right and can be done for free. I am going to show you step by step how to get started generating traffic to your web site using this method. How this all works is pretty simple. You will need to write articles that relate in some way to the topic of the web site that you want to promote. Writing the articles can be time consuming but your work will be rewarded later. Once you have some articles written that you feel are accurate and well written, you will write a small (about 2-3 sentence) bio about yourself and what you do.(your website) Include a link or maybe two within this bio to your web site. Now that you have all this done you will be submitting your article to article directories or open ezines and other similar sites. When you submit these articles you will also be submitting your bio which contains links to your web site. You can see how even in this short description, there is potential for traffic from this method. Now I can show you step by step how to do this effectively to increase your web site traffic.Step One: Research your topics. The very first thing you need to consider is what you will write your articles about. Make a list of things that are related to the topic of your web site. Write down anything you can think of that is related even if the list gets huge. If your web site was about golf clubs for example, some related topics would be golf shirts, golf vacations, golf lessons or golf etiquette.Once you have a good list made, prioritize the list putting the topics you know the most about at the top and working through the list. Once this is done, you should probably have at least 5 or 6 topics at the top of the list that you know a fair amount about. Start researching these top topics online using any sources you can find. Take notes of any interesting statistics or info that seemed surprising. Now that you have some research done and feel knowledgeable on these topics, you can move to the next step.Step Two: Writing your first articles. Now comes the creative part. I do understand that some people simply do not like writing or don't think they are any good at it. The truth is, writing is just as easy as talking. When you speak to your friends/family or co-workers do they understand you? Then you can write an effective article especially if you are working from the top of your list of topics which was prioritized in order of what you know the most about. Even if you struggle to get started, keep at it, its easier after you get started! :)When writing your articles do not try and write your article like an advertisement. Write your article as a piece of information that you are trying to share with your readers. Put real information that your readers can use in some way. Avoid suggesting that your readers visit your web site. The little bio at the bottom of your article already has your link and by suggesting to your readers that they click it, you make your article look like spam. People looking for information want to feel that the information has come from a trustworthy source. If your article is very accurate and informative, you gain credibility to your reader and often they wish to learn more from you. This prompts many readers to click the link in your bio to learn more without the need for you to ask them to click it.Write at least two or three articles for the topics you feel most comfortable about. After you have these articles written, try searching the internet for spell checkers, grammar checkers, and plagiarism checkers. You can find free online versions of all of these tools with a simple Google search using the terms above. Run each of the articles you have written through these tools and modify the articles accordingly. Even though you have written these articles yourself, you shouldn't skip the plagiarism checker. The reason for this is that the internet has millions upon millions of web sites on which someone may have written a very similar article. If your article looks to anyone that it could have been plagiarized, you will lose all your credibility and your articles might be denied or deleted.Step Three: Finding good places to submit your articles. Now up to know you will have done some pretty hard work. You've made your topic list, priorities it, researched a bunch of topics, written a bunch of articles, checked and edited the articles, and you still haven't gotten any more web site traffic. Well, patience my friend, we are getting closer. :)Before you get all excited and start firing those articles off to any old directory or website you can find, you need to do more research. This time you will be using the search engines to find article directories, or open ezines. Take note of the ones that are in the top results of the major search engines. These are the directories that the search engines are currently sending the most traffic to! Take down a list of the top directories from each search engine and filter out the duplicates. These are the directories you will want to submit your articles to. Some of them will be free to submit, and some will be pay to submit. To start with go with the free ones. Be sure when submitting your articles that you read any submission guidelines and adjust your articles if need be to fit.Don't submit your articles too many times. Only submit each article to a maximum of 3 different web sites. The reason for this is because we want your article to be a valuable source of unique information that is not available everywhere else. The search engines use bots and spiders to read the web sites you are submitting to. (we know this since they are highly ranked in search results) The bots/spiders are designed to look for unique content that has not been seen elsewhere. When the search engines find unique content, they tend to rank that site more highly than others with duplicated content. This means the search engines may send visitors directly to your article and if well written, will lead to many clicks on the link to your web site.Step Four: Wash, rinse, repeat.Really that is about all there is to it. Repeat the steps again and again. Submit new articles to the same places or to new places to see what helps. Beware though, when choosing a directory to submit to, avoid ones that automatically accept any article. Be picky, you are building a reputation here. :)Now that is the basics of article marketing. Remember the goal here is not to coax people to click your link, it is to provide a source of information that is unique and will naturally lead the reader to consider you knowledgeable and trustworthy so they WANT to click your link.I have used this method and it has worked very well for me. An example of one of my recent successes is a web site that I have recently started. In the first two days that my web site was live, I wrote six articles. I submitted these articles one each to six different article directories over the two days. I made sure the directories were high ranking on the search engines. It even took one day for the articles to be accepted and viewable on the directories. The next day I was pleased to find that my web site had 32 new members and I had orders to process! This is not a huge success but remember that was only six articles on six directories and not one of the articles asked the reader to visit my site.Obviously this is not the only traffic generation method. Some of you may prefer other methods. For me though this is the backbone of my web promotion efforts and it always brings some level of success. I hope it will now do the same for you!

velma reacted to cityzen in 3 Steps To Create And Manage Virtual Hosts To Test And Combine Offline And Online Codes
The purpose of this short tutorial – my first one – is to help you to manage your web laboratory, combining online and offline stuffs, and switch easily between virtual and real host using the same address.

Let’s say that you want to test in a safe and clean way some codes in your own PC before to upload them to the web. Your websites use external stuff, like fonts, javascripts, datas or whatever offered by Google, Bloomberg or Facebook, and are located to their websites.

The question is: how to switch easily between the testing environment (the virtual host located in your PC, only accessible to you) and real host (located in the real world, the Web), and reverse using the same address: ‘yoursite.com’?

Half answer is: the latest version of EasyPHP includes an optional module called ‘Virtual Hosts Manager’. It’s perfects for simple needs and is easy to install... but it has some issues that makes it useless. We'll solve this here.

At first you’ll have to install once the environment Server in your PC, then we'll see how to create in 3 easy steps your web laboratory with as many domains and subdomains as you wish into your computer, and switch between virtual and real web,

Installation and configuration of your WAMP
    __________________________________________________________________________

Install your WAMP – Windows Apache MySQL PHP

Goal: to get a virtual web server environment full featured in you PC.

Go to http://www.easyphp.org/ and install the version and modules of your choice. (Wordpress, Drupal, Prestashop, Joomla, etc.)

By default it will be installed in this folder:
    C:Program FilesEasyPHP-12.1

Note: if you want to install it elsewhere, make sure to do the appropriate modifications in the further steps.

    __________________________________________________________________________

Install the Virtual Hosts Manager in your WAMP

Goal: configure your WAMP to support Virtual Hosts

Go to http://www.easyphp.org/ to get the latest Virtual Hosts Manager, or download it directly using this link:
    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Install it in the same folder as EasyPHP:
    C:Program FilesEasyPHP-12.1

In the EasyPHP program, make sure that Apache is running and go to ‘Administration’, or press the touches ‘ctrl+A’, or go directly in your browser to:
    http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

(If it doesn’t work, do the appropriate changes as described in the next step, and come back here)

In the list of modules, you’ll see Virtual Hosts Manager, and at it’s left a button saying ‘add virtual host’. Feel free to use it, personally I avoid it.

This module doesn’t offer all the flexibility and liability that you deserve, you’ll probably get several heavy warning messages while you use it, and switching often between virtual and real Host may become a nightmare when you do many tests, instead of exiting as it should be: it doesn’t activate/deactivate virtual hosts properly. But, if it works well enough for you and meets all your needs, you can use it ‘as is’ and won’t need to walk through the further steps.

At this point: We installed a module that alouds easyPhp to support Virtual Hosting.

Apache - Edit the port of your localhost

Goal: simplify the configuration of your localhost

Make a backup and open the Apache configuration file:
    C:Program FilesEasyPHP-12.1conf_fileshttpd.conf

Go to the row 62, normally you should see this:
    Listen 127.0.0.1:80

Then it’s ok and you can go to the next step.

Otherwise, if you see something like:
    Listen 127.0.0.1:8887

Below this row, add this one:
    Listen 127.0.0.1:80

Note: if you want to deactivate this for whatever reason, you can comment this row just adding a ‘#’ at the beginning of the row.

At this point: now you can access to your localhost just typing 127.0.0.1 in your browser and will be able to edit properly the hosts file as described below.
    __________________________________________________________________________

The 3 easy Steps to configure your Virtual Hosts

    __________________________________________________________________________

Step 1: Edit your ‘Hosts’ file

Goal: redirect ‘yoursite.com’ to your localhost

    With Wordpad, open the file:
    C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetchosts

It’s a file without extension, make first a backup copy.

Add the following row to your ‘hosts’ file:
    127.0.0.1 yoursite.com

Optional tip: If you want to access to your localhost just typing ‘localhost’, then add this row if it’s missing:
    127.0.0.1 localhost

Save your modifications and make sure that your text editor didn’t add a ‘.txt’ extension to your file, otherwise it won’t work, and that’s why I recommend Wordpad to do it.

At this point, if you visit ‘yoursite.com’ with your browser, you should access to the contents of your ‘localhost’ witch files are located in your PC.

    __________________________________________________________________________

Step 2: Apache - Create a configuration file for ‘yoursite.com’

Goal: define the specific folder for ‘yoursite.com’ in your localhost

First, create the main folder for your offline works:
    C:Program FilesEasyPHP-12.1wwwyoursite

Now, open the Apache configuration folder
    C:Program FilesEasyPHP-12.1apacheconf

Create a new text file and add the following rows:

    <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
    DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/EasyPHP-12.1/www/yoursite"
    ServerName yoursite.com
    <Directory "C:/Program Files/EasyPHP-12.1/www/yoursite">
    Options FollowSymLinks Indexes
    AllowOverride All
    Order deny,allow
    Allow from 127.0.0.1
    Deny from all
    Require all granted
    </Directory>
    </VirtualHost>

Note: be aware, Apache makes a difference between ‘/’ and ‘’

    Save this file as:
    C:Program FilesEasyPHP-12.1apacheconfyoursite.conf

At this point: you just created a configuration file for the Apache server that you can activate/deactivate in the next step.

    __________________________________________________________________________

Step 3: Apache – Activate your configuration file

Goal: Activate the configuration of your Virtual Host in you local server

With your text editor, open the Apache configuration file:
    C:PROGRAM FILESEASYPHP-12.1conf_fileshttpd.conf

At the end of the file, add the following row:
    Include conf/yoursite.conf

Important: with your EasyPhp console, first: STOP Apache, then: START Apache, just restarting may not always work properly either.

At this point: if you visit ‘yoursite.com’ with your browser, you’ll access to the empty file you just created for your virtual host.

    __________________________________________________________________________

    How to Activate/Deactivate Virtual Hosts

Like in Step 1, open your ‘Hosts’ file, and then, to deactivate, the Virtual Host of your choice just add a ‘#’ at the beginning of it’s row, and save it. To reactivate it, just remove the ‘#’:
    # 127.0.0.1 yoursite.com

Then you’ll access directly to the web.

Note: Apache doesn’t need to restart, as you don’t need to touch the configuration files.

    __________________________________________________________________________

    Conclusion

Now you can install and test everything you wish safely and combine online and offline stuffs using the same address, and switch easily between your online and offline websites, just adding or removing a ‘#’ from your ‘Hosts’ file. It may seem tricky in a first view, but the result is very simple, quick and reliable.

Note: This is my first tutorial, if you find whatever mistake, something unclear, know a better way to do or say it, I will really appreciate.

Wow, I'm sure glad I don't have the problem with my pups getting their shots as you do with dogs in the clinic. I'd be so beat up and busted up I couldn't walk three quarters of the time. I'd just get healed up from vaccinating one litter then I'd have to do another. Seems like I give shots every day around here. Ok, maybe not really that often, but it sure seems like it sometimes.

I did have a very simular cow situation like yours though. And the tip of my index finger on my right hand is still just a tiny bit crooked because of it. We had a very friendly cow we had raised from a calf on a bottle, she would try to sneak up on you and would suck your entire arm up in her mouth if she would get a chance. She was a full grown Jersey heifer by this time. She was following me one day and trying her best to climb into my hip pocket, and since she had grown a pretty nice sharp set of horns I was trying to discourge her so I picked up the only thing I had handy at the time, which was a flat large rib bone, and I swatted her on the horn with it, only problem was my finger tip was between the bone and the horn, busted the end of the finger, it was sitting about a quarter of the way to one side. Made me say many bad words.

velma got a reaction from HoRuS in Creepy Crawly Robot... Useful Or Useless?
While going through the daily news, I found an article about a robot designed by Harvard, they've developed a little four legged robot that crawls around & into tight spaces, the demonstration can be seen in the source. Firstly, I think it would be a hit if converted into a toy(imagining the reactions of my pets), it was amusing to just watch it wriggle around... some of the appreciative comments I got from family & friends are too crass to mention here:lol: . But.. It makes me wonder how useful can it really get in the real world..

Being able to crawl into tight spots could allow for police to check on people(make sure they are safe or if suspected to be dead) but it is pretty slow so I doubt it would be all that useful during a raid, the offenders could simply squish it the instant it starts crawling into the house

Another use could be to quadriplegic or paraplegic people, with a suction mechanism, could help them pick up dropped items. Can any of you think of uses for this little robot?

velma reacted to k_nitin_r in Cheapest Tablet In The World - Aakash Launched in India, today.
The cheapest tablet in India was for Rs.1,200/- but prices have increased since its introduction. I can't remember if it was MyDrona or the NotionInk Adam but one of the two was sold for Rs.1,200/-. MyDrona was created by the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT - that is three 'I's, not two). The low price comes from government subsidies rather than breakthroughs in manufacturing technologies therefore I can't really speculate on the build quality. The Aakash tablet comes with just 256MB RAM which makes it difficult to 'hack' it to turn it into a cheap laptop replacement. The price does make it a compelling purchase when compared to the Samsung netbook for Rs.16,000/-. Considering that a motorcycle can be bought for Rs.30,000/-, folks who aren't IT-savvy are not very likely to get a netbook or even a regular computer be a desktop or a laptop for that matter. If the display and battery of a cheap netbook are taken off, that might help cut down the price by quite a bit. Hooking up the rest of the netbook to a television set does make the idea seem like it may meet commercial success if it is pitched correctly. The downside is that by using a television, you would be limited to low resolutions and the idea of a nettop has already been tested without much success. The difference between a nettop and the proposed stripped-down netbook is the lower cost in using the infrastructure for existing netbook development and the integration of a keyboard and touchpad within the body that helps save on material costs.

velma reacted to rpgsearcherz in What The %#@! Is Goig On With My Site? Answers. NOW.
I just want to add my view on the situation... At least from my experience (I've been here years) things have been great around here. My issue stems more from the community itself than Xisto/Xisto - Web Hosting/Xisto/Whatever you want to name them.I will admit, however, that I have had issues in the past (and still am) with my server being slow and/or offline. Usually it's fixed pretty quick but 5-10 minutes offline can cause huge headaches and loss of potential customers. So from that end, it is definitely irritating. On that note, I'm wondering if upgrading packages would help resolve that...?When it comes to support, however, they have always been very fast at getting back to me. I've registered three domains and multiple hosting accounts. Only the first one took a while (I think 48 hours) and that was to confirm my account/posts/etc. In fact, my last domain, in around March of this year, was activated the same day I ordered it. It was up and fully running soon after (which they have no control over, as that's just propagation). My last support ticket was sent in 3 days ago, relating to my IP being blocked from my server (which is annoying to me but is a great feature as it keeps people from brute-forcing you -- not going to get into talk of proxies or otherwise -- it's helpful). Within 12 hours my IP was unblocked and I had a message letting me know so. I honestly can't remember the last time a ticket took more than a day, if even that long.So from my end, it appears a lot of complaints (like this one) are based on people not voicing their concerns or not doing it politely or possibly not even clearly. If people don't understand what your problem is, they can't help. It'd be like going to the doctor and saying "I'm hurting" and refusing to let them know where -- guessing what your problem is will not grant you a good/fast solution.

Hello Anwiii, maybe its just you that he doesn't want to know your location..... i'm not so keen on the new lay out to be honest,

there are a few things that you have all said prior to now and I agree with most of them, what i think would be constructive is if we were to maybe be nice and suggest how we think he could make it better instead of being so down on his design.

Bani, i get that your not impressed but given your level of interest in this new "development" maybe it would be nice to constructively advise him on what the community would like to see.

How about that as a new line of discussion instead of the current negative angle

    Just a thought.

To people that have already responded: try to at least help this guy with his problems and not talk about what software he should be using for his site, it's his will if he wants to delete your favorite program.

Anyway, the problem was that you hadn't first deleted the index.php file of wordpress. You have to delete all files that are related to WordPress (and the database) to get rid of WP. You also have to activate the option to see hidden files and then delete a file called ".htaccess". I see that you have deleted the index.php now, which is good. Don't delete the "cgi-bin" folder

The reason it's giving that error is because there isn't an index.html/php file for it to load to the browser. 404 means that Apache (the server software) couldn't find the file. So after you've cleared up the directory, upload your folders and files of choice to the public_html directory to be able to access them when visiting the domain.
