hey all! thanks for your help! i have taken down the forums and have reinstalled them!it now works! thanks for all your help!-jimmy

you should get everything back the way it was before everything happened!what they do is install the os and apache/cpanel stuff onto the NEW drive then copy the accounts from the OLD drive over to the new drive, so at the moment, your accounts files have not been copied over. give them a while to copy them all over, OpaQue said it could take 5-8 hours to do!what your saying is exactly what im getting also, and i think everyone is. so all we can do is be patient and wait for everything to get back into order!-jimmy

Soundblaster Live! 24-bit External Soundcard What do you think of it?
jimmy89 replied to jimmy89's topic in Hardware Workshop
it is amazing what a good set of speakers can do! you said before you are using them for music and games so the 2.1 channel speakers should be good for you! i have a set of 5.1 speakers that i picked up of a friend for $25, pretty decent pair of speakers, great sound!i think the only reason you would really want to go out and purchase a set of 5.1/7.1 speakers would be when you where turning your pc into a home theater and needed some good sound and wanted the surround sound experience!congrats on your purchase also!-jimmyPS. how have you found the software? i have read some reviews where people have said that the software is hard to understand and can get complicated! personally, i found no problem with it except that they are all separate programs! it would be much better if they were all bundled into one, with the media player separate. -

its not the newest technology, but it does what i need it to! and chesso, how do you like it? good sound? i think mine was the best money spent, works well and sounds great! best thing is that its easily transfered between by laptop and my computer! (great sound whatever im using!)-jimmy -
thanks for your advice Kenshin, i have tried several drivers, including those from the original system cd, the manufacturers website, windows update (online driver search through device manager) and the device manufacturers site. none of which seem to be working. the new drivers (that have come out this year) dont seem to work and give an error 10 code, the device cannot start!i have reinstalled windows xp using the recovery cds that came with the laptop and that didn't do anything cept waste my time and erase some of my files ;)i attempted to contact the device manufacturer and all they had to say was that they couldn't do anything more without a device number (something like ALC-***) that should be written on the motherboard, and im not pulling my laptop apart, the furthest i will go is taking the memory cover off!i'm starting to the its time to send it back to the manufacturer and get them to have a look at it! there seems to be nothing else i or anyone else can do! thanks for all your help, and if you have any other suggestions, i would LOVE to hear them -jimmyEDIT: Is it somehow possible that with the memory cover off when I was upgrading memory (thats when the problems started, when i installed new memory and upgraded the OS) i might have damaged the motherboard/sound card? the input/output ports for the motherboard are right next to the memory opening, could i have done something by accident? just a thought!

Best Host (free) To Host Audio, video And Image Files.
jimmy89 replied to richierich1m's topic in General Discussion
i have always liked to support the xisto family and i would suggest imagefilez. its only got a 5mb limit, which is fine for smaller files. for larger files, im with saint-michael and suggest filefront ImageFilez - ImageFilez FileFront - http://www.gamefront.com/ there are always heaps of others and a good google search will turn up a heap of good places to go! good luck -jimmy -
Hi,I am trying to introduce a quota management software system into my network. I am looking for a free alternative that can introduce management of how much is downloaded per user. What I was thinking was...if when you goto opening the internet, before it loads the page asks you to login, username and password and once that has been entered and authenticated then you can continue surfing. I was think something like a proxy server that you can run of your computer or of a network server.just wondering if there was some software out there like this, im going to do my own research, but I would also like your input too!thanks-jimmy

No Music Playing Windows Vista, no sounds, nothing
jimmy89 replied to jimmy89's topic in Hardware Workshop
UPDATE:I have tried the HD drivers, when I install them and restart the computer, I get a message in the taskbar that says 'No audio output device is installed' and there is the red cross on the audio symbol. When looking in the Device Manager, the device has an exclamation symbol next to it and there is a Code 10 error 'The device cannot start'. This has also happened for the AC'97 drivers that I downloaded from the Realtek site. It seems that any new drivers (for the Vista platform) aren't working and cause problems, the pre-vista drivers (ones made from WinXP) install and look ok (no errors) won't play sound though.I can confirm that the sound DOES work on vista, I have a logitech usb headphone and tried that, worked fine - so I know that sound works. Also, the speakers do work, they were working fine in XP, they have also worked in Win2K and Fedora Core 6.I have downloaded iTunes 7.1 and i am having the same problems with the audio. The song looks like its playing, the play icon turns to the pause symbol, the small speaker next to the song in the playlist has the 'sound bars' but the timer (that counts how long the song has been playing for) and the scroll bar doesn't change nor move, they act as if the song isn't playing at all! i dont understand this?Could this be a problem with my Vista installation or is it still the drivers? Thank you so much for your help so far,-jimmyP.S, Sorry about the double post -

jimmy89 replied to jimmy89's topic in Hardware Workshop
i have tried removing the entry from the device manager and it does auto install at reboot but his still doesn't work! im downloading the HD drivers now to see if they will work! i havent yet tried another media player yet, but i think its a different problem to that because not even the system sounds are playing, like the login and logout effects. -
thats pretty cool! i just went on then and saw some kind of bush pig or a buffalo, i dunno but it was running around like crazy. nice fast connection too!nice find-jimmy

i cannot help about the vBadvanced software as i have never used it my self! but you've got me interested so im going to have a look!as to phpBB, its very simple to setup. As you are already hosted, firstly, login to your cpanel(http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/)2. scroll down to the bottom of the page and under pre-installed scripts, click fantastico (you can get there by going to the link, and substituting your site in (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/)3. scroll down to discussion boards and select phpBB4. then, on the left select the NEW INSTALLATION link (make sure there is enough space)5. select a domain and folder location (the defaults are normally good, but if you want it in a separate folder you can put it in something like /forums)6. enter a username and password that will become the admin account (this can be anything you want)7. fill in the Site name, Short description, E-Mail signature, Admin e-mail, Preferred Language and click installthe installation should start and will only take a few seconds, you will then be asked to confirm the database information and click install again, click and you are done. if there are no errors, your forum is there! go to the link the it gives you and you can begin modifying to your needs. to login to the admin panel, go to the forum, login using the username and password supplied at the setup, scroll to the bottom and click the administration link, (you may need to enter your username and password again) and you will be redirected to the forums admin panel. There you can change anything on the board! Good Luck and if you need to know anything about the pbpBB forums, don't hesitate to ask
