  1. Quicktime defiantly has an option for turning startup off, under the advanced tab in the preferences! (I had to turn it off the other day)
  2. Hi, I am finally getting around to getting myself a laptop (the one that my friend gave me has finally bitten the dust! ) Anyway, I think I found one that isn't too bad and was hoping that everyone would be able to give some suggestions about what I'm looking at. So all I'm asking for is just what you think of it, is it going to last me for a while, is it actually worth the $1,200 price tag, is there things that I could do without? Thanks heaps, -jimmy
  3. its good to know that you got some (most) of your data back! Getting around 80% of your data from a formatted disk with windows reinstalled over it is very good!-jimmy
  4. According to http://php.net/ the switch structure is switch ($i) {case 0: echo "i equals 0"; break;case 1: echo "i equals 1"; break;case 2: echo "i equals 2"; break;}?>Which is pretty much what vizskywalker said, but goto http://php.net/manual/en/control-structures.switch.php to read more about it! -jimmy
  5. So far, I think everyone is right! It looks like it installs with windows itself! But it doesn't seem to be part of ISS! I reinstalled XP Pro a week or two ago - so its still pretty bare, and ISS isn't installed, but the folder is there! There must be another program that may use this directory, or may be that ISS would use this directory, if it was installed!I had a quick check, there is nothing in that folder except a few other folders (microsoft frontpage/version3.0/bin) and the file size reads as 0 bytes (no hidden files either!).According to wikipedia, version 3 of frontpage is the 1998 release, so I have no idea what its doing in Windows XP which was released sometime in 2001.-jimmy
  6. It must be something to do with xp pro, cause I have it on my computer too (I don't have frontpage). It sits in the C:\Program Files\ directory!
  7. what is the bandwidth and space like at filefront? It sounds really good!
  8. if you got 0.05 that means that you got the function right, but because you have the cell format set as a percentage value, as 5% is actually 0.05 thats what will show up in a cell thats not 'percentage' formated! Format the cell that is showing 0.05 and you will see percentage values! The file I attached in post #5 should be working properly if you need a reference!-jimmy
  9. Looks like a pretty good site! It runs fast and the upload/download speed that I got was fast enough for my liking! 1GB storage and 50MB file size is a reasonable amount for quick transfers from computer to computer. It will be good when you can transfer from your computer to a friend via this service!
  10. I can suggest installing the McAfree SiteAdvisor plugin. It will give you graphical warnings about websites that may be harmful to your computer. It wont stop you viewing the websites, but thats what common sense is for! You can get it from http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/windows.html for Firefox and http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/windows.html for Internet Explorer. If you really happy with it, you can also get the Plus version for $24.99 Then always updating anti-virus, anti-spyware etc will help. And if worse does come to worse, make sure you have backups and are ready if the unthinkable happens! you never know! -jimmy
  11. I tried the DATEDIF function in excel 2007 and it didn't work, not sure if they don't use it anymore in the new version or if i was entering it wrong!
  12. that shouldn't be too hard! because excel is american, you have to go by their conventions, so by that todays date is actually the 7/29/07 where we would say its the 29/7/07.So, if you put the 'commencement day' in column A, cell 2 and the 'pay day' in column B cell 2, then go A2-B2, you should get your difference in days. The larger day has to always be first, otherwise you are going to end up with negative values, which would mean they payed after the course started! :PAttached is a modified copy of the previous file, with paying and commencement days to work out discount percentages!-jimmy
  13. I have done something similar with income taxes, but the basic principles are the same, so it should work. Using the function you gave earlier=VLOOKUP(B5$A$14:$B$19,2)this would be how it would workin the location B5 is your lookup value, so in other words, how many days before the material commences did they pay (5 days, 6 days etc)in the location A14 to B19 you will have a two column selection, which in one column would have the days (14, 22 etc) and the other column would have the percentages (0%, 5%, 8% etc). The 2 in this case is the column that will be used to give the result, in your case would be 2, because the percentages are in the 2nd column.I have attached a simple version of what I have explained here for you to have a look at.Hopefully this is helpful, if you need anything else explained, please ask!-jimmy
  14. Very nice! I think the render needs to stand out a little more, otherwise its really good!keep up the good work-jimmy
  15. A simple rule to go by is that if you wouldn't want to see it, don't use it in your own site. I absolutely hate animated gifs! they drive me crazy . A teacher once told me that to make a good site, it needs to be consistent, keep everything the same and make it nice and simple. Use the same font, colours etc on each page and don't go changing. Its also nice to make sure that your website works in all browsers (or in as many as possible), it's not good when you loose traffic cause they can't view/use your site! There are heaps of tools on the net for viewing your website through multiple browsers!-jimmy
  16. My two favorites are LimeWire and Azureus (Vuze). The new version of Azureus is great! It has all the features of the old version (now under the 'advanced' title) but now with a video explorer that lets you find videos (not full movies, thats illegal, but movie clips, trailers etc) and then download them. You can still use .torrent files with the new interface - it gives you a small speed graph and completion indicator.LimeWire has been a favorite for years. It works well and has heaps of options for downloading. It also is very good with allowing files that are shared and uploaded. I don't want all my files shared around the Internet, and LimeWire lets me pick exactly which files and folders I am sharing with the world! And as FirefoxRocks said, use these programs legaly!
  17. I used to use avast, but moved to AntiVir. I just didn't really like avast! But its still a really good scanning system. Not a huge hog on resources like some are, and its scanning is good! For a free virus scanner - its really good!
  18. I had the same problem only a while ago, and it was driving me crazy. But thanks to faulty.lee I was able to get all my files back. Because you have re-installed Windows back onto the same hard drive, you may have overwritten files that you need (in the C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Docs folder).I think that windows would write the 'basic' my document files back to the same place on the hard drive - but it only writes minimal files (my music, pictures folders) so you might still be able to get back the files in those folders. The program that got me out of my problems was Ontrack Easy Recovery Professional. Send me a PM and I can give you a link to the program! Its pretty simple to use, but if you need help, just ask. Also, when your recovering files, copy them to another disk (external hard drive, second hard drive, network share) as so that the 'recovered' files aren't written to the place where you are recovering from!
  19. The website that this program comes from is http://www.crintsoft.com/MiniLyrics.php You can download the program from their website if you dont want to download from rapidshare. The website has a list of programs that this works with also, and has a small screenshot of it working with winamp.
  20. yeah, i agree! bug! lol, interesting they haven't found about it till now! or maybe they have, but haven't fixed it!
  21. TavoxPeru, you can check your posts by clicking on your name (up the top of the screen, under the Xisto logo, next to the log out button), when your user page comes up, your recent posts and topics are displayed in the middle column. If they have been baleeted (thanks MediYama ) you will get an Board Message saying it couldn't be found. kof, your credits are displayed above the topics on the homepage, Go Here and look under the bar at the top! It will say how many credits you have!
  22. If your friends are using cs:s they will have to be using steam, which has a built in friends and chat system. You can also view which games friends are in - and join the game if you want to!I would also suggest XFire as the others have - great program!Good Luck-jimmy
  23. most forums that you can download from websites have a 'read me' file in them that should take you step by step through the installation process! Im pretty sure IPB will come with a 'install help' file. Or, if your are using a host that has fantastico install, use that to install it for you - no manual installing and you don't have to download it then upload it to your host!Good Luck-jimmy
  24. check your recent posts, if they were deleted then you would lose credits for the post you made, check that! I havent seen any problems with my credits though, they seem to be sitting at 30 credits. Strange!
  25. good to hear its all sorted!
