1. We don't get enough do we? This is what the second bit in 20 days - time to take some more pictures! For most people it's a small price to pay for some snow, just drive a bit slower on the roads. Moved to Regional Affairs > UK
2. Is 21 the legal age to BUY alcohol in America or to CONSUME it? Personally I think the drinking age in America is way too high. In Britain it's 16 and I think that's perfectly reasonable; however, I do think that 13/14 year-olds should be able to drink but no more than 1 or 2 units on special occasions like Christmas, under parental supervision. That might seem like a very lenient stance compared to most of you but if you let teenagers have sips of it when they're younger and enjoy it responsibly then you minimise the chance of abusing it. Prohibition was introduced in America before. It was a total failure. People made their own alcohol, speakeasies were doing a roaring trade, no-one could control illegal imports from the Canadian/Mexican borders and policemen and judges were being bribed like never before so the law never got enforced. Therefore, I doubt any country would ever considering this again.
3. It's look like a good search engine but there is some doubt if I can trust this company. According to this reviewer, their toolbar contains malicious software: Redzee.com Safety Report With this in mind, I'd personally stick to Google for now.
4. Download the web browser Firefox. Adjust the settings listed here accordingly to boost your speed when using that browser
5. SCRIPT.ACULO.US Homepage AJAX is a futuristic language used by experts to program the web. It adds many interesting features which will enhance your website. Click the link below for a demo of all the things you can do with the AJAX scripts available on script.aculo.us: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The current version (1.7.0) of the entire library of their scripts is available as a download in ZIP, TAR.GZ and TAR.BZ2 format. ZIP {146KB} TAR.GZ TAR.BZ2 Please see the documentation available on their website before downloading.
6. I vote for MIGU2k7's Xisto logo and MIDU2k7's Xisto logo. I love everything about the Xisto logo, especially the font and the way the sunburst casts a shadow on the text. For the Xisto logo, the glint on the "s" and the "o" is great and for the both the colours used work perfectly. @SM: The colours don't "shine" like Migue's, which I think is what attract most people to Migue's. The blur doesn't help either. @Mich: The Xisto logo is the better of the two and I was almost going to vote for that instead of Migue's. Your Xisto logo has some nice text but that's really all it has. Good work though! Sorry if my criticisms don't make any sense. It's hard to put my finger on it for some of them.
7. http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and-Wireless/HP-TouchPad-Needs-68-Weeks-for-Additional-Shipments-142584 Another exploit. What do you expect? Now that Microsoft's got a much larger audience to beta test Vista, there are bound to be more exploits.
8. It's definitely a fake. Start up Command Prompt and ping tv.google.com. You'll get the following: CONSOLE ping tv.google.comPing request could not find the host tv.google.com. Please check the name and try again.A nice idea but non-existent.
9. @Sprnknwn, The answer, I am 99.9% sure is no. When you save a GIF image in Paint Shop Pro with multiple layers it asks you if you want to continue because the image will be limited to one layer and 256 colours. Sorry, I got frames confused with layers The answer is yes, you just need a decent GIF editor - I don't know of any free ones.
10. The shoutbox will probably be coming back. The add-ons are usually the last things to be fixed - the PM system is still down.
11. Unfortunately, during the upgrade the database became corrupted and we had to revert to last Sunday evening's backup. Sorry for any inconvenience.
12. The website is indubitably very fast and loads for me in about 0.6s (2MB/s broadband) and I'm sure dial-up users will experience page loadings of a few seconds; but, are dial-up users really the main target for a download site? Maybe there is room to add a few more graphics and provide the current layout as a low-bandwidth alternative. Lots of your download links are to the site hop.clickbank.net. There is nothing wrong with making some money out of the site but I recommend you make an effort to hide the fact that the links are to that site. It doesn't invoke a feeling of trust. Layout: 6/10 Content: 4/10 Originality: 2/10 Truthfully, the site needs a lot of work. I'll still be using download.com for my downloading needs.
13. Trap17 has a sister free web hosting project that offers just that but with 333MB of space and 3,333MB of bandwidth and a MYSQL database. There are no credits, instant activation and ads. It is called Xisto.net. For this reason, it is unlikely that such an alternative would be offered. Thank you for your suggestion though.
14. It is not possible to do that. If you decide to go on holiday or you are in a position where you cannot post, you must either: Post for the required amount of credits beforehand Buy credits ($USD 10 for 6 months) Let your account suspend itself
15. When an admin accepts your application for free hosting he will reply to the topic saying "Xisto FREE WEB HOSTING ACCOUNT APPROVED" An email will also be sent to the address you specified. Upon approval, you can create your account here. Notice from electriic ink: Moved out of Xisto - Web Hosting forum
16. Here's a nice photo-edit I've done. Probably one of my best: Rate/comment/criticise
17. You're patriotic if you want what's best for your country, whatever your viewpoint may be and at the same time you accept other countries' ideas. If you're a patriot then you might feel uncomfortable if you're country has lots of immigrants in it. Patriotism is in some ways a more subtle form of nationalism.
18. As far as I am aware, Xisto does not suspend accounts on request. You have enough credits to prevent you from getting terminated for 44 days; if you need more after that, local libraries have computers that you can use or try S&M's options.Hope this message reaches you in time.
19. The idea of giving comes from the three gifts the Wise Men brought Jesus (frankincense, gold and myrrh). Now to answer all your assumptions about the origin of Xmas (why do you all hyphenate between the X and M?) Anyway, according to the Cassell Dictionary Of Word Histories: Meaning and origin of Xian from the same book: It is therefore perfectly acceptable: it does have some origin relating to Christ. As with all words, it's just been muddled around a bit and if you think that's wrong, I challenge you to speak and write the Old English Chīst instead of Christ without getting any strange looks Besides, it's a great time saver.
20. Congrats! The answer was you can't divide by 0 or x - y. You can prove anything when you divide by 0.
21. In light of the topic, 2+2=5 methought I'd create my own puzzle:
Let x = y
Therefore x? = xy Therefore x? - y? = xy - y? If we factorise these equations we end up with (x + y)(x - y) = y(x - y) We now have a common term on both sides "(x - y)," which we will divide off to make our problem easier to solve x + y = y But x = y so y + y = y thus 2y = y Then, if we divide off the common value "y," 2 = 1
Simple! Where's the flaw?
22. If you did manage to see millions of years in the future, it would be extremely hard for you to understand the need of what they have. Imagine taking a stone-age person into the 21st century and trying to explain the internet to him. Impossible. The same would apply for you travelling into the depths of the future, not to mention the language barrier. These are a few lines from a 13th century poem:
.
I never though about it like that! Such a logical way to disprove time travel! Time viewing must be possible. Someone could be watching you right now. We developed so many new inventions in the last two hundred years, thousands of years from now time viewing will be invented.
23. Religion has altered the world a lot in many good ways. In fact, without religion Americans wouldn't be living in the world they are today. In the 1930s America went into economic depression and despite President Roosevelt's best efforts there was no feasible way to make it back to how it was before. What happened in 1939? World War 2! America produced weapons for its allies and became richer again. Hitler, who caused the war, had a main aim which was to wipe out the Jews and make them uncomfortable. In a very indirect and tortuous pattern, religion saved the US! Don't forget that in times of past the idea that "God is on our side" has kept many people's morales up in difficult situations; religious ideas were the starting point for many countries' laws. You all see the negative sides of things too often. You have absolutely no idea how big or small an impact religion has had, even on your lives. I could take you on loads of history trips where religion has affected modern live. Things are not too bad now so stop wishing for that world because you don't know what it will be like.
