  1. If you don't want to use Java, nobody can make you. I have high respect for Sun Microsystems because they were the ones that made OpenOffice, and in my opinion Java is fine, so if you're really that worried that it'll screw you in the end, that's your choice, I'm just telling you, they're not going down Microsoft's path. As I said before, you're contradicting yourself because Sun Microsystems isn't all closed source, OO is the best example.
  2. We're just trying to pick out the top ten, it's not that hard, really.
  3. I'm way ahead of that. The difference now is that you get to upgrade to crap instead of something better. 98 -> 2000? Better. 2000 -> XP? Better (well, depends, for most I'd say better). XP -> Vista? Crap. Therefore XP -> Linux = best
  4. The thought of the government controlling how fast cars can go makes me shudder at all the things that will go wrong.
  5. AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ overclocked to 2.63 DDR2(800) Gigs OCZ Platinum Edition250 Gig (XP) + 120 Gig (Ubuntu) Western Digital 7200 rpm with 16mb cachenVidia 7600 GS overclocked to 595 core 870 memoryNot too bad I think.
  6. Download the file to your desktop, then unzip it there. Then, go in the terminal, and type cd Desktop/(name of the folder you just extracted). Then you can start putting in the commands it tells you. If it doesn't work, perhaps it wants the files to still be zipped, so just do a cd Desktop to lead it there.
  7. Which brings me back to my first post here although I put a bit more blame on the individual.
  8. In a place with the most murder in the world, I'd have to disagree, it is society's work. 20th place in terms of education in high school, last time I checked. Then again, it's really not fair because America has more retards (no, seriously).
  9. Yea, but technically, the GPA is unlimited because you can take outside classes in a community college and have those classes count as AP classes. 4 AP/Honors classes can get you a 5.0, but you can throw in outside classes (I plan on adding 2 in senior year, trying to get a 5.5 if it's possible) and go higher.
  10. To let the war profiteers get their money. Therefore, Bush is winning. Cold War leftovers. The Soviet Union had their share in it too, and there wasn't really any other way to do it other than choose anybody to keep peace, oppose your enemy, and fight for you. I think blaming the current generation is ridiculous, in fact, the military is under the control of itself, so any blame directed elsewhere is completely idiotic. I came to America from Ukraine and let me tell you, they talk a whole load of bulls*** there, blaming ANYTHING they possibly can on America, and from that I infer that things are likewise in most other places.
  11. I'll take this with a big, fat grain of salt until you show me a link.
  12. So if it's not graded, you won't bother? Lol. 10th grade 2nd semester: AP European History, PE, Honors Pre-Calculus, CP Chemistry. Ended up with 4.5 gpa, spent about 1 to 2 hours of homework per night. 11th grade 2nd semester (currently): Spanish 2, AP Calculus BC, Physiology and Anatomy, CP English 11. GPA in progress, spending about 2-4 hours of homework per night, mostly because of math. 12th grade I doubt I'll be spending much more.
  13. Download Damn Small Linux, which is only 50 mb, copy the ISO to a CD, boot with it and see if it find your hard drive. However, I think this may be a problem with your BIOS, either the hardware itself or bad settings, but still, try that first.
  14. When I read the title I thought this was going to be about hax, but this is interesting nonetheless. Why don't you just let her play her little game until it all comes crashing down? It's only a matter of time, just stop wasting yours. The only reason why you're mad at this point is because you choose to be.
  15. Well you're in for a nice ride, Microsoft is stretching its legs with Vista for the moment.

    So Much Crap!

I'll attempt to sum up their general personality: 1. It's all about me 2. I'm all that 3. Enjoy life while you can 4. If it's not entertaining me, it's not worth my time Throw in consumerism and media into that equation, and presto! You got yourself a nice example of a lot of the youth I have to deal with. Being one myself irritates the hell out of me since most adults generally assume we're retards when some of us aren't.
  17. Sometimes it's a challenge just to get them to pass, and it's not that hard. ANYBODY can do it. If you're really serious, then that'll have to be done. Not so much the straight A's, because any idiot can ace the standard classes required to pass, but to show improvement over time and to take hard classes to prepare yourself. However, about 2% of us will actually have to do this, the other 8% will have it easy, and everybody else will fail or drop out. And to be honest, it's actually easy once you get used to it, which took me about half a year. Besides, you'll be in for a nice surprise when you decide to go to college/university and get hit with 6 hours of homework if you just slacked through high school. It all depends on what kind of person you are, no amount of pressure or media will push a good person to do crap.
  18. It was made this way on purpose so you would get ripped off by "tech specialists" and stuff like that. The cryptic style of this system would scare most people away.
  19. The filesystem is inefficient with Wubi, so if you don't mind that, you're good to go.
  20. Put "sudo pppoeconfig" in the terminal, without quotes. That might fix it.
  21. Which I didn't. I did mention consumerism. It's just that from where I came, parents were a lot more respected and here, more and more I see them viewed as somewhat like an older friend. You'd be surprised. However, I still believe that people are in full control of their lives. I understand that if a nuke were to drop on your city, that would be false, but your chance of dying from other causes are astronomical in comparison. I also believe that how you deal with stressful situations will dictate your success in the future. In Ukraine my family used to make 300 grivni which is about $60 per month, converted. We were poor, but I didn't really know it. When we moved here, we had to stay a week over at our cousins before we could rent something. My dad went to work at construction for about $9/hr and then at night, both of my parents went to deliver about 1000 newspapers, every day. It was really tough, but we moved on, eventually bought a house, and now were in another house, a new one this time, making $60,000 a year, living happy lives. I doubt any of that would've happened in my parents just said, you know what, it's too much, and just started drinking or something. Sadly, I see that attitude all too often, and I believe that it was because in their younger years, they weren't presented with situations that only had one solution. I could really write an essay about this, and I know many would disagree, but it just makes too much sense for me. Sure, every generation will go on, but keep in mind that most of us wont live as well as the last generation did, and it's not mainly Bush's fault. There is a growing absence of engineers and scientists (depending on who's sources you read). For example, most of the infrastructure in the U.S. was built in the '50s because of the GI Bill, which gave a reason for people to study. There was huge growth, and then it just disappeared. Most college students aren't on the GI Bill anyways, but it still can bring up the point that they're really settling for less. Oh well, I'm just getting ahead of myself, let's just say the upcoming times will be quite interesting. I find that people that actually take time to post on forums (who in the world would do that?...) actually have some intellect, which most others highly lack. If the posts are actually relevant, that is, not spam or anything.
