  1. Lol, just another useless TCP tweaking program. I haven't seen a modem yet that could transfer (both ways at the same time) 44k yet and this software cetrainly wont push help it. The only way you might get some perfromance boost is if you do some good modding to an external modem and perhaps download some drivers and tcp settings that someone smarter than you has made. If this thing was able to do driver mods or override the rom settings on your modem or something then it might be worth a look. Save yourself time and money and just google yourself free programs and guides which are much better than this.
  2. So your previous video card on this computer did not produce the error? Try running tests and benchmarks on your pc and see if you can find a problem that way. Once you've done that and it didn't help, isolate the components by switching them (if you can). For example, try taking out 1 stick of ram and running on one, then try the other. Similar steps may be taken for the other components. Also, did you google the exact error message? Perhaps someone has found the same error and can provide help. Try changing your desktop resolution and then trying to run the game; for some reason this made Underground 2 work on one of my older pcs by switching desktop resolution from 1024x768 to 800x600. Weird, but it happens. Lastly, you can try to reinstall all drivers, including your motherboard drivers, as there may be some conflict between devices. For some reason this makes me think of hardware acceleration (of the screen, can't seem to remember exactly what it's called, just poke around in DirectX and video settings )Good luck with your debugging
  3. i would personally reccomend the samsung syncmaster series. i got myself a 19' widescreen with 2 ms response and 2000:1 ratio for $277 and $25 rebate. at first i wasnt happy with games but then i googled enough and found the widescreen gaming forum which provided me with widescreen adjustments for all my games.
  4. Nice list, definitely some goodies in there. I didn't see Zone Labs ZoneAlarm there though, and that's a definite must-have.
  5. On the contrary, dual core is not combined speed of both cores. It is 2 cores built on one die, each running at the specified speed. So a 3.0 ghz dual core p4 has 2 cores running at 3.0 ghz. All dual-cores seem to run on lower power and a bit cooler than their single core counterparts. So normally 1 core is used for your current program and the other might be used for background tasks. They are both used vigorously only when a multi-threaded application is opened. This allows for the other core to take on some of the work so the job is split, yealding some nice performance results. Very few games today offer multi-threading, but it's a thing of the future, creeping up on the horizon. Those that have a dual-core will already be ahead of the game. For a closing note, when you run an intenstive app., such as F.E.A.R., when you exit the game, most single core cpus will seem a bit sluggish, but with a dual core it never happened to me.Hope this clears things up.
  6. If you can pick up a GeForce 7600 GT or GS then that'll be the best bang for the buck. That card has 12 pipelines and is based on a fairly new architecture so you're gonna get all the shader support. My cousin has this card and it's way better than the ATI cards at the $100-$150 range.
  7. Why not just use both Linux and Windows and get the best of both worlds? As someone said before me, every OS has its advantage, none are superior, it just depends on what you do, but Windows tends to be a more all-around thing.
  8. I get em quite often since I'm always tweaking my system and it either overheats or doesn't like the settings other than that, about twice a year. But the thing I did notice is that the pcs that I built myself tend to have less bsod than store-bought rigs.
