AEF is getting popular, even i'm hearing a lot about it everyday. I'm just curious about it's themes and Mods. if professional forum themes are there then i guess plenty of IPB/VB people might get attracted to it. I mean VB/IPB is aid and people can't afford more skinning to it, so if any free forum software is available with professional themes then i guess many people might switch to either AEF/SMF. I heard that SMF 2.0 RC2 is much improved and themes are easy to create than earlier versions. i want to know more from theme makers about how easy is to create on SMF2. Meanwhile if anyone wants to check the comparison on forum software then ForumMatrix is the best place to do so. Wikipedia also has the comparison article but i prefer forummatrix comparison chart.

Let me share my experience with forums again. PhpBB:- For newbie in forum software will definitely find phpbb with "steep" learning curve. Why ? take a look at how forum categories are created in phpbb in comparison to other softwares. Mod installation is also not easy to understand for new user. (before you hit me with arguments, give phpbb forum controls to newbie to forum world and see the results). MyBB and PunBB:- Ease of use in comparison to phpbb. SMF & AEF:-If i sound biased towards SMF & AEF, then don't bash me. but i find these two packages easy to use and perfect option for newbies. What are Latest features ? This is sort of sales pitch thing, but what are latest features as claimed by most newbies? if you use forummatrix to compare forum softwares, then you'll see most of the forums are having almost every feature and you won't find major feature excluded. difference between forum software could be support to flat/database files, RSS or other minor features. which sometimes covered with help of Mod's. So at the end, i find this latest feature argument a bit naive.

During 2005-2007, i used a program called Genie Backup manager. it was cheap and worth to pay for. after that one day i lost the partition and unable to recover my data from it. so was desperately looking for data restore and backup software. usually best way is to send your HDD to data restore companies or the HDD makers if they can offer this service/support. So for freeware you can try Convar's PC Recovery Software. You can get it from here. Or another one is called Recuva. Both of them are free. and if you ask me which one to use then my vote goes to Convar's PC Recovery software. Also take a look at Disksigger. There are plenty of other cheap and useful programs out there for disk management and recovery. you can try softwares like "BadCopy Pro", "Photo-recovery wizard" etc. Worth to checkout.

Some good books that i know worth checking out are: 1) PHP in action. Covers most of the beginner and intermediate stuff. MVC & Database related chapters are included as well. 2) Progamming PHP (Oreilly) Another book from orielly, worth checking out. This was recommended to me by my friend. yet to check this out. If any review about this book then please post about it here. 3) O'Reilly PHP Cookbook This is from cookbook series of O'reilly. most of the books in cookbook series follow simple learn by doing approach. so i guess this is applicable to this book as well. If possible check Sitepoint Books. they're simple and easy to learn from. Some online tutorial sites : 1) Php tutorial. 2) Php Documentation. 3) VTC tutorials There are more tutorial link, you can google for them. Hope this helps.

Not at all. I personally use windows on office machines from where i update some of the php/mysql files for my websites and forum. Though CPanel is intended for linux but the web apps which you use to create blog/forums are on windows as well. Our webhost Xisto have /public_html directory on cpanel where we place all our files to host. so if you're building/installing anything then you've to think about this top directory instead of thinking about your machine. In case of windows host i guess this directory maybe different. Browser parses webpages independent of the OS, so the directory structure pointing to webpages of either linux or windows web host is simply looking for the URL. This URL is supposed to point at correct path. for example, www. some domain. com/ site/index.htmlhere browser on linux and windows will look for "/" (this root directory that pointed by domain name) after that will look for site folder from that it tries to deliver the content of index.html page. So seperation maybe at hierarchy of folder structue/name but browser knows how to fetch the files from it irrespective of Webhost.

I'm not sure if any website builder allows hiding mp3 or media files. but there are some website builders that has capability to create or modify skins. and also integrating with forum softwares. Most of these are commercial scripts and price is moderate if you're willing to spend money.You can try Monsterhosts's free website builder if you want simple page building and uploading it to server. Other than that if you're using Cpanel then there is a website builder with templates(As far as i know i've seen this in description of fantastico). you can check that out. Also check xisto's site Xisto - Domains, where you can purchase commercial website builder. they've attractive plans for that as well. and you can use mycents to purchase that package i think. for more information you can ask about this in customer support so that you can pay for it from Xisto - Support mycents.Another option is to use: CMS. Wordpress/Joomla is good option. ask on their support forums that how can you hide/restrict media files like mp3 etc. chances are there that some folks found out way out of it. as there are plenty of member restricted sites created using wordpress/joomla. that could be option for you.

I guess because of flash content, they don't feel like accepting your request. Flash sites can't generate revenue like other sites. There are ways to display ads within flash sites like most other flash based high traffic websites. How your site looks to others and how it is designed is purely subjective and people opinion will vary. so i'll refrain from commenting about design and content associated with it. Besides you said that your account with ad-sense was removed due to invalid clicks. now as per their term & conditions, they'll never accept you in future. There are ways to get around this with corporate accounts but i'm not sure how people do that. Also when you apply for bigger CPC/CPM ad networks like adsense/valueclick, make sure you remove previous ads so that most advertising network have no chance to deny your application. once approved you can add those ad codes back. Keep trying with content and traffic, and denial from adsense doesn't mean end of the road. there are plenty of big fishes, find right one for yourself.

I've question regarding xisto account. i've few domains hosted with xisto. out of which there is one domain where i'm maintaining blog. and want to sell it later cause it is getting hard for me to update every week. so what do i need to do ? i mean i want to give that account details later to someone else. but can't give it cause it is in Xisto - Support with my other domains and hosting package. how am i supposed to proceed now ? do let me know the steps, i'll follow it when i transfer domain/cpanel to new owner.

First i thought this site is joke just like death-clock. but after going through their FAQ, i find it bit serious. and there are plenty of members into their network already shared their views about this. weird but yes there are few folks. My concern about the site is: what is the business model of this site ? how they're benefiting from confession videos or farewell videos ? what if those videos get into hands of psychopaths ? is it secure to share information on such sites ? now leaving such serious issues aside. Personally, i don't want world to remember me. i mean its almost mid-20's for me and i didn't find any reason that makes me say that, world needs to remember me. So i don't think there is any point in sending any video or message in such sites.

Thanks truefusion. that worked. that is one good method to play with GRID's. i tried one more method of creating grids. it is in filters. we have to go to Filter > texture > patchwork. where we can set the size of square. i tried both the methods. Thanks once again.

I want to know how to accomplish this GRID style effect in photoshop. i've attached the image for the reference on how i want to accomplish the effect. you can pick any random photo to give me a pointer that shows this effect. Similar to this effect is already made on trap's home page but it is in flash. and i want to know how to create such a GRID using Photoshop. see the attachment for the effect. @s243a Thanks for the twitter-feed suggestion. I just hooked my entire forum updates to twitterfeed. Now the forum account on twitter gets updates every time someone posts forum posts or even creates new topic. Limiting it for particular time interval is also a good option, as it'll not create problems to service provider(twitter in this case). I couldn't find anything alternative like twitterfeed for laconi.ca based software though. I need to find such service for identi.ca, i tried to go through ping.fm but no success. Need to find dedicated software like twitterfeed for identi.ca. So still looking for it. Yahoo pipes idea sounds nice. and it's perfect to sort feeds and then publish it. i'll try it when my forum gets enough traffic that is beyond twitter updates reach.

@s243a Yes i agree with you, orkut allows RSS feeds posted on personal scrapbook(it is like wall as in facebook). So scrapbook being personal is not at all suitable for feeds cause anyone will able to view your personal messages. So for scrapbooks this idea is dropped. But i found orkutfeed site where we can get feeds for community/group and that too based on topic. So this is good way to keep track of the community posts and replies to your own posts. so i'm going to try that out. Let's see how easy it goes. I guess i've to check if identi.ca allows getting feeds from orkut or not. that will be one another fast option. as identi.ca rarely faces downtime in comparison to twitter. and review of indeti.ca is very good as well. Now coming back to topic of social network, is it possible to send forum updates to twitter/identi.ca. especially is it possible to send forum updates to post as status message to identi.ca ? this way we can drive lot of traffic on forums in my opinion. not too much but atleast 20-30 will even worth it if the status of forum are posted to twitter/identica. I'm not sure how those services will handle forums once they're having large userbase. but atleast for new forums it can be a source of traffic. Any ideas how it can be done ?

I'm not sure if Ping.fm allows access to Orkut and other social networks covered in open social. I tried it for Twitter/identi.ca and blogger. and i must say it saved hell lot of time. Like if you want to publish blog entries, status message then it can be done just like we are doing batch updates. But i'm not still sure if orkut/open social apps can be used on ping.fm. As we're discussing social network here. I would like to know that other than orkut, how many social networks have community/group feature that is worth investing time ? i mean you can fetch lot of traffic if you advertise properly on them. Any pointers to such social networks ? Let me know if you know any social network like that.

Social networking could be addictive sometimes. or even opens many opportunities for job search, girl friend search etc. Some social network like Orkut are famous cause of communities, which are like forums. These forums are full of fun, knowledgeable and don't forget SPAM. Facebook on the other hand is excellent for status message update and communication from wall scrap-messages. Facebook is not that powerfull on point of communities, which are called as groups on facebook. It is addictive for some of it';s application and games. Mafia is very famous game on facebook apps. people spend lot of time and money on facebook for such games. Due to google open social platform many apps are available in multiple networks like hi5,orkut,facebook,ning etc. and most of these apps are addictive. So coming back to topic, social networks are addictive for those who spend lot of time on internet. They might reduce their productivity by spending lot of time on such networks. So at certain extent social networks are usefull but if they're taking lot of your time then it's time for you to come out of social network addiction. Spend more time offline gradually if you think you're giving more time to social network.

Typical Microsoft strategy. Still what makes them think that they'll gain more share with Bing ?. First of bing is not at all good for file searching and Error related searches, image search. So i hardly think they'll match up with Google atleast till 2010. They started Bing by bad mouthing google, which is one of the cheapest attempt from them. but we do neglect such strategies under the marketing hood. and with this deal i'm more sure that they want to own the market just to defeat googel and not by providing quality searches. Cause if it was the case, they could have improved the search quality but they're not doing that. Live and Bing both still are immature products IMO. Coming back to topic of deal , Yahoo is seriously dying anyway. they need to either sell themselves to some company like Microsoft or start innovating something. using bing won't change anything at all for them. I guess after this deal Microsoft though get one more competitor as alley but still long way to go in terms of users.

If i remember correctly then Macintosh & Windows 98 are used heavily by me. I surfed a lot on windows 95/98 machines than any other. Besides till 2004 there were few machines in cyber cafe near my home had windows 98 installed machines. I still know few people using windows 98/ME/2K machines. Soon these people will migrate to new version though. After 2004, definitely XP gripped on market. and now that even windows 7 is coming. there are few people who can't afford windows 7 and hardware upgrade will keep XP alive for next 3-4 years. So here is list of operating system so far i've used the most.1. Mac OS 2. Windows 95/983. Ubuntu & Windows XPOther operating systems like windows 2k, linux variants are still there as VMWare image. and i do boot into that for fun somtimes.

I think it's about "exaggeration" in movies. I mean look at some of the top movies either they're exaggerated in terms of story, action sequence, computer graphics or acting. We as audience only watch television if it is either exaggerated or plain simple. Look at the matrix movie, some of the fight scenes are such popular that they're adopted in other movies as well. Slow motion action was redefined in matrix movie and from there it was flowing like nothing. Also take a look at some movies where computers are shown. keyboard hits sounds different than reality. Same is the case with operating systems and terminals used in movie. But one thing i've noticed very few mouse clicks are heard,isn't it ? also when someone types of terminal and or it gets printed as feedback from program then it sounds dramatic and this is where movies differ with reality

Some bad fishes are there in every pond. But because of that if we start to label country as "racist". then i think it is not at all fair. if people care such for racism, then why they failed to rule out casticism in their religion. how selective for the sake of religion. If religion is personal choice then so is discrimination based on race/color/language. Reality is one can rationalize everything. it's upto us to filter what is trully rational. So with such label like "racist" country is overstatement IMO. Atleast countries which have casticism in them don't deserve to codemn or label other countries as "Racist" countries.

I second to Jl's post. There are plenty of members missing. Some of them were busy cause of college while some were busy cause of life/job and other reasons. I know many of them return after 2 years or more. Some do remain active for 6 month or so and they go on hibernation again. But i gotta say there were some interesting members at the start of Xisto. and i missed those cause they're no longer active on trap and their MSN/Yahoo email ID's are not active as well. Another reason for trapanians are inactive is newusers are making trivial topics, so that turns off regular members from posting. or they rarely post depending upon the content of the topic. So don't worry, it's busy life during june to october. People will participate more and more after august. Have a tab on trap at that time.

I pity those who believe in human written delusional texts and try to stagnate progress by giving references from old books. seriously, people are lost in religion. It's like people fighting for which religions imaginary friend is stronger and will lead to nirvana. Really pathetic. Now that more and more people are opting for scientology, creationism crap. even internet is getting corrupted with pseudo theories from religions. people like zakir naik, harun yahya are on loose world will loose it's skeptical nature. invent anything and attribute to god, what an idiocracy.

@Shadowx, even i like the side of antagonist and anti-heroes. but very few games are there for them. wish there were games for something like this. freedom to choose sides. aah, anyway we're stuck with typical story line.
