I think gnome vs kde discussion don't fetch much good if we compare look and feel and minor differences. Gnome is selected by those who are having experience from apple platform. And KDE is usually selected by those who are using windows. I find KDE as easy as windows. There needs to be lot of improvements in KDE since version 3 to make it more effective like Windows shell. And with KDE 4 they succeed as well, and because of this many distros have selected KDE as default window manager. To name a few Opensuse, mepis are bundling KDE window manager with their distro. Red hat gives you option for multiple window managers, so can't say this famous distro chosen what etc. I think even linspire also uses KDE as window manager. KDE or Gnome is more of personal choice. Cause KDE packages can work under gnome and vice versa. KDE is getting more popular cause of popular features are added with every new feature. I find KOffice bundled with Mepis much better package on linux. I don't know if there is any alternative package gnome ships. If we compare gedit/kate/kwrite then certainly with comparisons like that sometimes KDE gets votes sometimes or Gnome gets vote sometimes. So choice of window manager is more of personal these days. Both are easy to use and can get your workdone,that's the point.

Did you by any chances posted content which was not yours i mean not types or written in somewhere ? If it falls into plagiarism then chances are like that it was action taken by admin/mods. And even i asked you about this in one of your topic if it was your original content or not. If it is original then i suggest you to stick with your postings instead of leaving Xisto.

It's easy to believe in fantasy stories of spirituality than accepting science and it's exploration. And just because of there is limitations in science, doesn't mean spirituality is right. Oh, now spirituality requires patience ? Hmm, and what results have you got so far after that ? Just the opposite, word salad is spirituality. You're using internet and looking for hosting cause of science and not cause of spirituality. Their ignorance on not to read or question science journals. More people follow religion and are spiritual but not reading science journal is "appeal to popularity" fallacy. and you fail to give proof for spirit. so where is the science in it if it fails to give empirical evidence for spirit. and What gives me power ? certainly not those fantasy energies suggested by spiritualists. There are lot of differences if you're talking about creationism. Many of creationist push religious concepts in order to argue with evolution. This simply isn't going to work that way. Oh, now that if people starts to accept evolution, It goes into minority? and creationists are the one who use science to penetrate pseudo-holy concepts into schools. Finding gaps in science to push claims in holy books, spirituality won't make sense. It never made earlier nor it will make now. and debating people for the sake of preaching religion(that's what creationists do) is one such part i think people enjoy to suppress skepticism. is it ? what you call science ? isn't finding answers, skepticism part of science ? or you think humans survived earlier without this ? When people are convinced with what they call non-materialistic world they start rejecting reality(materialistic world). any argument in this is simply meant for taking down difference in opinion and as carol says, it won't make any difference to spiritualist people. It is not misconception. Until and unless you can give me successful case in this i won't buy your claims for this. There are tons of claims made in this from many religions, spiritual cults like theiuba and their attempt to call it misconception never worked. Exactly. Hypothetical concepts in spirituality which is without proof makes no sense in reality. For example, there is no proof of spirit to begin with. And any attempt to defending spirituality is useless if one can't give empirical evidence for spirit. So what's the point in mixing it then ? Again, i found this as word play and not a provable way to understand hybridization of science and spirituality. If spirituality is that obvious then point of denial fades away, we shouldn't be discussing it at first place. Not completely but i agree to this point that it is hard to be "wholly" skeptical. Thanks for pointing this out. I mean in order to hypothesize some theories in science, skepticism could turn off thinking process and may restrict some thoughts. But at the end, to make it work it needs to have "empirical evidence". Denying "empirical evidence" & suppressing skepticism is ignorance, and we know ignorance is bliss.

Domain names are no problem. Point is you've to look for name that you want for your site. Plus, your site should sound catchy with that name. Else weird names are sometimes hard to remember. So you've to find catchy and easy to remember name. Also avoid "-"in between domain name. That niche is too populated. But still there is plenty of room for new blogs and websites. It depends on how you promote your site. and what is there in your blog/site that will attract your visitors next time. News related domains are in huge demand so most of the domains are already taken. You can consider mixing english and foreign language word (and that to short ofcourse)as solution to your blog/site name. Just a suggestion, after all it's your call. For web development, Knowing HTML is essential. All the web development languages are parsed by web browser and what you get on browser is HTML. So i guess you got the idea how much important is HTML. Yes. CSS is used to enhance web pages/XML and many other languages to display the content on web browser or platform where there is presentation(GUI/etc). PHP is used to create dynamic site.That mean when you want to interact with database to display your data then in such conditions PHP/ASP/JSP comes in. You can create static sites with PHP as well. and XML is used depending upon the need of project. Some use XML as database to store objects, some fetch styles/data from XML files for presentation. So use of XML is dependent on project. Don't get confused. See view of these things in a simple way. HTML/PHP as way of expressing stuff to browser so that it can show your data by understanding them. Think of CSS as presentation side of HTML/PHP(enhancement you can say). Actually he is right that, when your blog grows then it is beneficial to have Google adsense. Why ? cause Kontera ads are embeded in content and is not good when your blog fetch tons of traffic in that case, Google adsense performs better. Although you can use both these ad networks but seriously, using too much ads on blog/site will be not in favor of your site. And it will look cluttered. So at start Kontera is fine, but when your traffic grows it is better to go with Google adsense or other banner ad based ads. I suggest you to use W3schools online tutorials. It is very easy to learn languages from their tutorials. Even PHP and SQL tutorials are there with HTML/CSS/XML. And learning from their tutorial is much better than those "Dummies fo xx language" type books. Other than that start asking questions whenever you start learning new language. this will help you clear queries and people on internet can point you to many other resource which you never explored before.

Whether you believe or not doesn't change the facts that there are more evidences in evolution. Evolution has more facts than whatever fantasy of spirituality you believe in. For starters take a look at this site. In short, Evolution has more evidence than Creationism. And whatever claims of creationism are made by religious people and spiritualists is taken as pseudo-science(ref:NCSE) when they make comment against evolution. So ? Many god believers accept evolution. Even Christianity recently agreed to it. Problem with spiritualists is they can't prove a inch in their pseudo-science and try to pretend they know it all. in fact, they can't even give empirical evidence to their own claims. All word salad and no substance. I call this escapism. People live without spirituality but can't without science(it is broad term-even exploring for answers is infact science in itself. if you can live without science then start asking question why you need electricity, internet and so on, replace it with spiritual equivalent things). Spirituality is hyped and people preaching it are desperate to add it with science in order to get their fantasy claims approved. Only skeptical view and understanding opponents view gives peace. Any attempt to suppress any side gives imbalance. Some people enjoy rational and reasonable life with science and some people live with fantasy stories of spirituality. As "Carol tavris" said in her book , let people stick to their own opinion, instead of forcing others opinion or ideology on them. If spirituality is forced then there is definitely imbalance cause people are mixing pseudo-concepts of spirituality with science. That is the skepticism. Instead of attributing unknown things to someone and creating theories based on that it is always better to be skeptical and in search of empirical evidence.

Yes,rvalkass mentioned there are times when Xisto goes down. Most of the time lots of guests logged onto system. And server can't seem to handle too much traffic or some other reason like database issues. and what not. You can check sites like downforeveryoneorjustme. You can use Mozzila add-on like this. Some sites worth to try to check downtime. Ping.eu, DNS report. Or you can use proxy sites to check if your site is alive or down. Some sites do offer report of how your site is accessible or not in various parts of world(depending upon their datacenter).

Refreshing page or clearing cookies won't work. Even restarting browser and clearing cookies won't help here. I don't know if it is busy site or something else. I guess there is work going on in backend, so that's why they're throwing errors while logged in. Anyway, if it was refresh and cookies problem it could have solved for atleast one browser. I don't think that this is browser refresh or cookies problem. Anyway i'll try and login after sometime. else we have contact their support team, and ask what's the trouble in logging in.

While i was asking for invite from nameless_, i got invite from one of my friend on facebook. and i signed up and and managed to log in. Now the link is freezed at one url after logging in as mentioned earlier by puneye. I tried to access account from google chrome, opera 9, firefox 3.5 and results are same. Page is freeze on this link. and if this is happening for most of the users then i'm sure this more of developer issue as site is in development phase. I think it is more of problem with script or website downtime. Besides they're still in beta so quite possible that there are plenty of changes going on in the backend. Let's see when this system patch up and let us in.

I don't know about Opera Mini updates or any new version coming soon. But desktop version of opera 10 is released. I gone through the article at arstechnica to find out some of the features in opera 10. So operator and portable opera apps will be updated as well. And i expect there could be new Opera Mini version coming soon. In between anyone tried Mobile browsers like Teashark ? I would like to know more alternatives in mobile browsers. any pointers ? suggestions ?

As far as i see, your browser have cookies problem or could be problem with gmail not supporting or working in your browser. Which browser you're using ? and do let us know version as well. If possible use upgraded versions of your browser. You can see the gmail help questions and answers. Check this page out.

Hehe. i know that. it's just that my patience with Xisto mycent is increasing sometimes and i get turn offf sometimes. you can say my situation is fluctuating. so i stick to Xisto when i don't feel like posting anywhere else on the internet. i guess you're trying hard for it, and turn off with it's update sometimes. i suggest you to contribute periodically instead of staying for long hours. It's you call though. depends on your comfort. if free is all you want initially then blogger or wordpress.com won't hurt that much besides it's easy to copy files from them when you move to your own hosting. so go with one of them. in this case avoid wibbly and wix. Avoiding experimenting if you're getting suggestions from more than 5-10 people. It won;t fetch much different results when it comes to blogging. I suggest blogger or wordpress.com. you choice at the end. Blogger is much better to experiment with HTML/CSS, wordpress.com is a bit restricted service. But both will take you off instantly into blogging world.

But making money from that site will not be possible as many advertising networks reject blogger and wordpress.com hosted sites. So your domain and hosting is the only way to go for longer run. Blogger is not at all suitable for hosted platform. But it is also customizable and competitive to other blogging solutions. Yes. you can add more than 1 website to your kontera network. only thing you've to do is generate separate code for every site in your account. so that they can track performance of individual site and create reports based on that. Yes, blogging is the way to earn. but it is not that easy. you've to be in touch with lot of other fellow bloggers, PR, Press and other networking things. Completely agree. I'll choose current Xisto's theme over Xisto's. Though sometimes gray/dark backgrounds do make newbies uncomfortable. especially when they're new to forums. and yeah, those who were never seen old blue theme of Xisto. take a look at it via wayback machine. earlier theme was busy looking but quite good to eyes. I spent lot of my time on Xisto, when that theme was activated,earlier before that i have no idea which theme was there. let me check wayback machine now. :-P

I never tried it but is it possible to update it from within application ?. as it is possible to do so in windows. I mean you can go to Help menu> check for updates. I'm not sure if this feature is available in linux. So synaptic/adept could be the option in such case.

Firefox add-on: If you're using firefox then you can download add-on called "DownthemAll". it is perfect download manager. only catch here is if you clean the history/private data, it washes off the files downloaded/buffer so far. so if you're kept downloads in queue then it is better not to delete browsing history. Another add-on to firefox is Flashgot. You can google for more info about this add-on of firefox. or try this link. Kget: With KDE you get "kget" by default. it is installed with kde window manager. so if you're using kubuntu then you're likely to have this in your system. prozgui: it is also another download manager, works well with ubuntu. updates are not frequent as far i've seen. Another alternative is "MultiGet file Downloader". It is with more features than prozgui. and works like charm. Axile is also good if you're not interested in any firefox add-on.

Exactly. That is my point as well. And what about bandwidth ? the amount it will take to load translation components or any language specific dictionary etc. I don't understand what is the problem with people learning english. i mean it is the only language commonly understood by rest of the world. Because of this additional language, many people will refrain from making comments. World is already divided on basis of religion and region, and adding language to it will not solve problem. but will rather create many other. In my opinion, english is excellent language that we're using on computers, website and in other global communication places. Ignoring this fact and trying to bring regional language just for the ignorance and laziness of learning language is not at all making sense. and if learning english is the problem then what these people are doing on internet ? they expect to get information in their local language for almost every query they have ? I think people need to grow up out of shell of native language and have to understand the need that if they wish to communicate with people all over the globe then they need to take help of common language like english.

I like surfing on the mobile using opera. It is the only browser that had better surfing capability as browser. as most of the earlier built-in browsers were not that feature-rich, so it was the only better interface browser that time. Especially opera 3 stayed in market for quite long time. It was hard to see websites with opera3. With opera 4, desktop interface of sites was preserved. It was quite an improvement from Opera 4.2 with those desktop website display. Let's see what will improve in 5th version of opera.

Hmm, you mean spoken language translation or posting capability ? I'm not sure if this is feasible in Xisto. Cause take a case of country india, there are more than 29 languages spoken here and people speaking these are more in numbers. at about lakhs for each language. probably more for some. Now take a case of international languages, there are more than 30 languages spoken in world. which are recognized by most of the international bodies and are preferred by most of the international translational systems. So just imagine adding this functionality to forum will simply turn off other users. i mean it is worth to learn English and if it is not comfortable to learning then i think it is better to use online translators.

I didn't get your question. What do you mean by "build some other parts for other language?". Is it about programming language ? or Spoken language ? If programming language then what do you mean by building some other parts of other language ? that is confusing to me. please explain your question briefly that will help us understand what you want.
