    My Own Cursor

I think that Icon Cool Editor can get the job done! It supports the newest types of icons/cursors (Windows XP style icons - true color + alpha blending etc.). It can also import BMP, JPG, PNG, PSD and other image formats so you don't have to "hand draw" all of the cursors yourself. You can download Icon Cool Editor here: http://iconcool.com/ Good luck!
  2. This doesn't work on most SMTP servers!A very few people are crazy enough to give you the permission to use their SMTP server to send anonymous e-mail that could be eventually abused (spam). When you try to send an e-mail trough that server, you will get a "Relay not permitted" error. Even if you succeed in sending an e-mail this way, your IP address is recorded by using the command "helo", and is included inside the e-mails headers! Most internet service providers record your IP address when you are connected along with the "connected at" and "disconnected at" time & date information. (and the time and date when the message is sent is always included inside e-mail headers) So, if you plan to send some hate mail to Bill Gates, think again .
  3. Or... You could just use Windows Update!I updated my computer a few days ago and I noticed a hotfix that repairs that (already mentioned) Plug & Play vulnerability in Windows XP. So, most viruses actually come through Windows vulnerabilities and other security holes... The other way is from you opening potentially infected files without an Antivirus, or with a Antivirus that hasn't been updated for a long time. So, use Windows Update and don't be too quick with those double-clicks! (Or just install Linux )
  4. Now, this is pretty much sick! Anyway, I doubt that an ordinary man can be killed by playing a game for 50 hours with small naps (in many wars, people were in a much more stressful situation!), his heart was probably very weak in the first place, however, if he didn't eat anything at all during that period, maybe that was the cause of so much exhaustion, and eventually - death! I really don't understand how his hand weren't shaking? Did he even notice what's happening to him? (When I don't eat anything for a few hours when I get out of bed, my hands start shaking due to the lack of sugar in my body...) Whatever the cause of this death was, nothing can encourage me to strap myself to a chair for 50 hours to play computer games! Even though I sometimes overdo it, I can realise that enough is enough!

  6. Macs are really stable because Apple programmers know for which particular hardware are they programming for! No 3rd party modifications and custom made PCs here! Just MAC!PC and Macs are really similar from the hardware side... It's the software side that counts! Linux made the PC stable again - and that's my preferred choice! Although, because of some hardware that works only on Windows, I'm still dual booting Windows and Linux on my machine. So, I'm not gonna say "Windows" or "Mac"... My vote goes for the "PC"!
  7. Well, actually - no. An attacker doesn't care if a computer is running on Windows, Linux or some other OS... The only thing that he cares about is to get his hands on the sweet data that lays inside...Regarding the list, I would add *BSD (FreeBSD, OpenBSD) systems and Sun Solaris (that became open source this year).Mac?s don't count in this category because Mac?s are pretty expensive as servers, and there is no reason for an attacker to spend a whole day searching for a MAC machine connected to the Internet just to try and compromise it. Besides, there are no needless server applications in MacOS that are turned on, unlike Windows... I once saw my friends computer running a SQL server in the system tray! I asked him what does he need that for? He replied: "I have no idea what is that or what it does! Don't touch it! You might break something!"Whether you are running Windows, Linux, MacOS, Solaris, FreeBSD or OpenBSD, your computer will ALWAYS be exploitable if you don't configure it properly! If you set your HDD to be shared in Windows, you are vulnerable. If you turn on Samba in Linux or BSD (program that allows disk sharing in Windows networks) or don't change the default root password, you are vulnerable...So, unless you are using Windows, you can rest assured that your system is perfectly secure if you configure it properly. If you are running Windows, run down to Windows Update, disable any server services that you don't need, turn on your firewall, update and activate your antivirus, scan your system with AdAware, don't talk to strangers and your should be just fine too!

  9. First of all, NO gambling sites are allowed on Xisto! Second, are those affiliate links??? They all go to: https://www.bingos.co.uk/?sourceid=101607 Is THAT your affiliate link??? Affiliate links are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN ON Xisto! That URL is from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ - a free URL redirecting service that is redirecting your URL to your affiliate link! Sneaky, but you are exposed... Sorry. Third: I'm guessing that you aren't receiving as much money as you expected and you are posting affiliate/referral links here. Fourth: If you are earning money with this scam, why let others know? Fifth: I doubt that those companies are REALLY THAT STUPID! RTFLA!!!! (read the fu****g license agreement!) I doubt that you made 100 pounds by using this service, because you CAN'T CASH OUT ANY MONEY WITH A FREE REGISTRATION! PS: Yes, I have reported your post to the moderators.
  10. I'm using Slax ( http://www.slax.org/ ). It can fit on a small Mini-CD, but I downloaded it because I needed to install something on my old 1.5GB HDD in order to avoid partitioning. It has the newest version of KDE and the 2.6 kernel version. However, it does not have the "development module", which means that you cannot compile and install programs with it. Fortunately, this module is available for download and it's 90MB in size. I installed it and all of my programs were compiled flawlessly! When I get a bigger HDD, I will try out Slackware, SuSE, maybe Ubuntu and Mandrake.
  11. I am using Win XP mostly for programming and development. And it's extremely stable! However, many games, hardware components and software applications simply refuse to work and can make a freshly installed Windows XP behave like Windows ME (which is bad)!On my old computer, I used to have Win98SE, and I was pretty satisfied with it, but Win98 can't handle slow computers very well (32MB of EDO RAM, 166MHz processor, 1MB video memory on the graphics card...) and if I run too many applications, sometimes the good old' blue screen pops up, and when I "press any key", the screen goes black and all that I can do is press the reset button. When Windows ME was out, I installed it on my (old) PC. Now, THAT WAS HELL! Looks like Windows 98SE, but it's MUCH SLOWER, and I can't do a thing with it because a blue screen will popup every half an hour! Until I switched back to Win98 SE, when working on my PC I clicked on the "Save" button every minute because I was so afraid that it will crash! Windows ME is the WORST OS that Microsoft ever released! I don't know why they even released it at all!You don't have to be an expert to use Microsoft Windows, but you do have to be an expert in order to keep your Windows installation and all of your data from going up into flames! When I helped out a friend install Windows XP and to configure his PC, everything was just fine. No crashes, no slow-downs no problems! However, after dropping by a week later I saw his computer infected with TONS of spyware, Internet Explorer toolbars, "Get Sex NOW!" icons all over his desktop and a few viruses as well! What would happen if I haven't showed up? That's a big problem with Windows... "Everything is OK!" on first site, but under the hood you can see a bunch of junk which can be extremely dangerous!Windows 95 OSR2 was pretty good too! (not Windows 95 itself, but the OSR2 version released 1997) I only hated it because you had to restart your computer every time you wanted to change some networking settings! Everything else was working just fine!
  12. Hi everyone!I need an idea on how to make a simple numeric countdown for my page. The countdown should go from e.g. 10 seconds, to zero. When the counter hits zero, a disabled button that is located on my page should be enabled. I have made something like this with a script that I have downloaded and modified, but it consisted of a simple progress bar.Unfortunately, the script only worked in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox (although I have Java installed). This counter has to be textual - only a piece of text that looks like "Please wait... xx", where xx is the number that is counting down - decreasing. Is there a way to do this, but to make it compatible with all major browsers out there without lot's of add-ons?(To make things a little bit more clear, the counter should look like the one from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, but instead of revealing the download link, this script must enable my button)Nothing fancy, but functionality is my main priority!Any suggestions are welcome!
  13. No, actually, that's not true... This does not look exactly like Windows XP. Windows are now "popping up" with an animation before it is displayed. File management is allot easier, allot of multimedia features have been added, and overall computer performance is boosted. I like the fact that Windows Vista uses my graphics card more than ever instead of hogging my processor in order to do some effects! Now it is using pixel shaders to draw very stylish and flexible windows! At http://winsupersite.com/, you can download a bunch of video clips and screenshots of Windows Vista (Longhorn, if you will). I saw some clips myself and I was pleased to see that the graphical user interface is greatly improved, that the search function is now searching your hard disk, the internet and your "history" for your search terms! (kind of like Google desktop search, although I sure hope that I can configure this Vista's tool to search using Google, instead of MSN search). You can also create virtual folders! This feature is looking pretty good! Take a look: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I sure hope that the new Windows version gets more secure, beautiful and functional than ever, otherwise, hello Linux (permanently this time)! All of the pictures were downloaded from the already mentioned site: http://winsupersite.com/
  14. AMD processors are already overclocked if you buy it from some manufacturers, such as Alienware. Regular AMD processors aren't overclocked! All of the overclocking is done on the motherboard from the BIOS, therefore, the CMOS contains the information about how much the processor is overclocked, not the processor itself. AMD Fans are maybe more noisy because most people buy AMD processors in the "box" edition (edition that comes with a cooler). I didn't buy a "box" edition processor, and it's allot quieter than my friend's Intel processor cooler! Coolers are vital components of the PC, and buying really cheap ones for your PC is not a good choice! For a few dollars you can get a much more powerful and much quieter cooler!
  15. What does "Vista" mean??? Not a bad name... (but it's definately a difference from 98, XP etc.) More about Microsoft Windows Vista here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://bink.nu/Article4551.bink <--- Has a video clip that shows the announcment of the new name for Windows Try going to this address: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and you will end up at microsoft.com; BTW: Great find, boyCradle!
  16. Yet another "get rich quick" scam... Could someone PLEASE spare a few minutes to read the TOS (Terms Of Service) of the Xisto forum (before posting referral links) and the TOS of the site that you are talking about in your post! It will all save us some time... I singled out some parts of the surf junky terms of service (that are really interesting): So, they can refuse to pay you for any reason (they are having a bad day, they didn't get their daily supply of doughnuts or they just FELT like it... ). Did you notice that you will get TONS of spam in your inbox? No? How about the fact that if you blacklist those e-mail messages you will get your account terminated? So, you must surf more than 33 hours (IF you are really receiving 0.75$ per hour, because that is the maximum that you can receive, the normal amount that you receive is 0.45$), get your inbox filled with spam and probably get your system infected with spyware only to GET YOUR ACCOUNT TERMINATED FOR NO GOOD REASON! I think that Spedia ( http://eplio.com/ ) also has a similar service and it used to send checks when you earn enough money! However, as soon as they started to get more members, they started to deny lots of payment requests by sending them an e-mail with the contents "YOU CHEATED! You must start over again in order to ...... blah blah". And there is nothing that normal users can do about this!
  17. I have registered at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ a minute ago, and so far, it looks nice! Thank you for the recommendation! Actually, it's worth 5.80 hosting credits A good idea, a good will and a good price!
  18. What??? 80%??? Are you sure? That number really gave me a slap right in the face! Smoking also causes your fingers to get all yellow and stinky because you hold it between your fingers... But that's the mildest problem, smoking can cause a wide variety of cancers and it lowers your lung capacity by filling them with tar! Smoking is simply bad for you! End of story! I hate smokers (nothing personal) because they simply lose their "cleanness" in time! They become all yellow, their skin ages quicker, their immune system lowers dramatically and they STINK and their whole house STINKS on tobacco! Most of them gain a look that resembles an ill person.
  19. Alright... First of all, I would like to spread my disgust about some of the topics on this part of the forum. "Make money online" doesn't mean that you can make money online by just <- snipped -> reading e-mails or auto-surfing. Allot of people that hang out on this part of the forum think that the Internet is a huge bag of money and is belching out a large amount of it to everybody that passes by!Nobody gives away money just like that! Bill Gates is very rich, but do you see him walking down town throwing a handful of dollars every second into the air? NO!So, if you see the "get an iPod for free" or "free LCD TV" ad, just FORGET IT! Nobody wants to give you something for free just like that! (although you may have to buy something or do a survey in order to get into a some sort of a lottery, but the odds are probably against you, on the other hand, if you feel lucky, go right ahead). The pay me 10$ and I will show you how to make one million dollars books are a bunch of crap! Why would someone request such a small sum of money when he/she can become a millionaire instantly? Avoid these books on sight!Online casinos? Get real...Pay to click/read email/auto surf?The companies that pay you to read e-mails, click on links, or auto surf aren't dumb as they appear on first sight! They will always insert a line in the license agreement that will give them the right to terminate your account "when they feel like it", or, even if they don't do such a thing, they know that you will get tired very quickly of grabbing a few pennies a day when you need at least 20$ to receive the promised amount of money! (most of them accept applications only from the USA)When you quit, they reset your account in a matter of a month of inactivity and there you have it - you have just given away your earnings and they got their >100 clicks for free!100 clicks * 10^n users = $$$ (*cash register sound*)Here's a good example: I signed up at SendMoreInfo.com in order to "get some cash" about 6 months ago... I received some e-mails, I clicked on the referral links, and so far, I have earned something... how much? Hmmm... let me check:Earned From Personal $ 0.02 Earned From Referrals $ 0.00 -----------------------------------Accumulated Earnings $ 0.02TWO CENTS??? Oh goody! Now I can retire! I will probably earn enough cash to receive my 10$ in about 10 years! *takes deep breath* OK... That probably belongs in the Vent, but no matter... Back On Topic in 3..2..1:Here's my suggestion:I took a peek at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and I am pretty satisfied with this site! A buyer posts a request for a program, all of his additional requests, an optional file attachment, a deadline date and the maximum amount of money that he is willing to pay out if the job is completed.Coders place bids and create the program/script/whatever until the deadline date is reached. Sounds good? It is! I earned 2$ (5$ actually, but minus 3$ because of the taxes) this night for 5 minutes of work! It's a very small amount of money, but I EARNED IT by myself without standing on the same level as all of those dudes out there who still refuse to accept that there is no real money in clicking banners and reading e-mails. (PS: did I mention that the task was done in 5 minutes? )5 minutes - 2$, 10 years - 10$ <---- Compare THAThttp://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ also has buyers that are willing to pay up to 500$ for a program! (although it's a big project to do, and it usually includes more programs/scripts etc. - but hey, it's still 500$!) Not only that, but rentacoder.com is doing a great job at protecting the coders and the buyers! There are simply NO/or very little SCAMS out there! There are also small business coding requests (<100$) and medium business coding requests (>100$ but less than 500$).Unfortunately, here's a down side of this great service:There are a bunch of coders there that are willing to place a bid. I am afraid of investing my time (a couple of days, weeks, doesn't matter) to develop a program, when my bid can be rejected in a matter of a second from the buyer, and all of my work is ruined! That's the only thing that is bugging me.But, this is something that all of us just have to accept - no risks, no money.Alright, that was my suggestion how to make some REAL money by programming or designing.I would like to hear from others also! Are there other sites like this? We could all use some sites similar to rentacoder.com, but are less crowded, pay more, have a better system etc.Also, I would like to ask everybody if they ever made some money by accepting donations at their website? For example, you have made an application/script/created a template and somebody clicked on the PayPal donate button because they liked it?And another question: is there an alternative to PayPal that accepts users from east Europe countries (and doesnt have such a muddy reputation like PayPal)?}}
  20. Here's mine... It was filled up to the max a minute ago
  21. Yes, I think Xisto supports exec()-like PHP functions (executing shell commands)!(Yes, I'm hosted here at Xisto)
  22. Try phpMyBackupPro! ( http://www.phpmybackuppro.net/ ) It allows you to make backups at any time, at any place, with a very easy-to-use GUI! You can also use it to make cron jobs in no time!
  23. Because many major programs and games that people really need run on Windows and some cannot be emulated by using WINE... Unfortunately... You can download it from anywhere, but you must install it from Linux. The introduction: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The download page: https://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Software/59430/lilo.html The documentation: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/LILO.html http://www.control-escape.com/linux/lilo-cfg.html I think so! But I am pretty sure that GAG has this option (it can password protect any operating system listed on the boot screen) I don't know. Some third party boot loaders have this option, maybe LILO has it! In the lilo.conf configuration file, there is a line that says "prompt", if that line is removed, LILO boots the default operating system and doesn't display the boot screen. Maybe there is a shortcut key combination to stop it from booting if you want to access the boot screen. Not yet! As far as I heard, if you have the right LILO version and a selected theme, all you have to do is type a few lines in the Linux terminal/console (whatever).
  24. During the NATO bombing in Serbia (1999), we were living in fear also, but knowing that the usual targets were military facilities and by being alerted on time when the air raid started made our life much easier...But this, this is very scary... Innocent people are walking with their children to school and going to work with their eyes wide open because they don?t know where or when the next bomb is going to go off (hopefully, there isn?t going to be a ?next bomb?). Innocent people in London died because of somebody?s sick ideas. Innocent people are living in fear and are isolating themselves from the real world because of somebody?s sick ideas!I would like to show my respect and I am offering my sympathy and condolences to everyone affected by this tragic event. I would also like to say something to the people affected by the misdeeds of terrorism: You are stronger than this! Fight for your rights! You are the one who is struggling to help the world become a better place every day! You are a creator, not a destroyer! Live your life and show everybody that you can?t be weakened by people who devoted their lives to destroying other peoples lives!
