Bugs Found In Phpbb 2.0.13 PhpBB 2.0.14 released to fix them
bureX replied to bureX's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Hmmm... That's very strange! You should try doing the update again! phpBB has NEVER redirected me back to the install.php file. But, how can it redirect you to the install.php file when you deleted the "install" folder (or, is it redirecting you, but you receive a 404 - file not found error)? -
Bugs Found In Phpbb 2.0.13 PhpBB 2.0.14 released to fix them
bureX replied to bureX's topic in Security issues & Exploits
It's very simple! 1) Download the changed files from the phpBB website... ( https://www.phpbb.com/downloads/ ) 2) You will find a bunch of folders in the ZIP file that you have downloaded. The folder names will be like "X.X.XX_to_2.0.14", where X.X.XX is your current phpBB forum version (2.0.13 for example)... 3) Extract that folder and simply copy it's contents into your Xisto forum folder (usually it is located in: "/publicHTML/forum"), confirm the replacing of the files when you are prompted to do so! 4) You will find 4 more folders in the ZIP file that you have downloaded ("install", "contrib", "docs" and "cache")... Copy them also in your forum folder, and replace any files if asked. 5) Open your browser (don't close your FTP client yet, you will need it) and open your forum URL with "/install/update_to_latest.php" added on the end, kind of like this: "your_host_name.trap17.com/forum/install/update_to_latest.php" 6) When phpBB notifies you that you have successfully completed the update process, delete the "install" and "contrib" directories from your forum folder! (If you don't, phpBB will notify you that this is necessary log when you log on to your forum). -
Recently, a few exploits were made for phpBB 2.0.13 (like this one): http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And some bugs were noticed as well (like this one): http://www.addict3d.org/index.php?page=vieecurity&ID=3563 And so, the phpBB team has released a new version of phpBB - 2.0.14. Here is the e-mail that I have received from their mailing list: I have installed it, and it is working properly.

I recommend using a tripod to keep your camera still and avoid shaking...You can improve captured video clips by using VirtualDub. Select "Filters" from the "Video" menu and click on the "Add" button to select a filter. If the picture is blurry, select the "sharpening" filter, if the picture is sharp, try the "smoothing filter" (it will smooth out the video clip, but it tries not to blur it).If you would like to have sound effects and background music, use a video editing tool such as (my favorite) Sony's "Vegas"... By using this program, you can add lot's and lot's of transition effects and the rendering option is very simple to use, but it still has many options that you can hand tweak to get the video quality you want!If you want to edit your videos smoothly, it is recommended to get the biggest hard disk that you can get your hands on (mostly depends on the size of your pocket ), and a more powerful processor... DivX compression takes allot of processing power, and that may be the cause to the audio falling behind (or running forward). However, you should uninstall your current DivX video codec, get the LATEST DivX codec from the DivX website (http://www.divx.com/) and install it on your computer to make sure that this is not a codec problem.

The Aston shell was around for a long time too (http://www.astonshell.com/), and deserves to be mentioned here. Personally, I don't use replacement shells, because (as CrashCore said) they are usually instable. Of course, for all those newbies out there that aren't happy with the default look of Windows XP should definitely try Stardock's WindowsBlinds (http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/), and eventually use it together with ObjectDesktop, if they want extra stylish menus.

How To Take A Screen Shot Of Your Desktop. A Simple Tutorial
bureX replied to scab_dog's topic in General Discussion
@Johnny Sorry, I missed dontmaimyourself's post... @thebluekirby This is impossible to accomplish using the Print Screen key... However, some media players (like "MV2 player", for example) have the possibility to "grab" a frame from a movie file, and save it as an image. Windows Media Player doesn't have this feature yet, unfortunately. If you are interested, you can download MV2 player from here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -

If Norton Antivirus cannot repair/delete it, you can try scanning your system in safe mode (press F8 while booting, and select "safe mode" from the boot menu that will appear). Make sure that you have updated all of your antivirus and spyware removal programs before doing any scanning. You can also try to do a scan with Microsoft's beta version of "AntiSpyware"... It discovered a few things that AdAware did not, despite the fact that it's spyware definitions were up to date.BTW: I don't have the "osmim.dll" file in my System32 folder (I am using Windows XP with Service Pack 2).

That's kind of weird... You can trick browsers with this ! BTW: Paint? When you open a (real) icon in paint, the transparent areas are colored black! Anyway, the icon cannot be used in many icon editing programs such as "Icon Cool Editor" or Borlands Image Editor... It can't be even viewed in ACDSee! Therefore, it is NOT a valid icon file! See for yourself: https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/

WTF????Dude... You just changed the FILE EXTENSION from BMP to ICO!!! That doesn't mean that you have converted a BMP file to an icon! It's still a BMP image file! You can try and open it in any icon editing program and it will display a message "Unknown Icon Format".Bitmaps and icons are very different! Icons have to contain information about the number of colors in the icon, alpha blending information (in case of Windows XP icons) and the size of the icon.If you want to convert image files to icons, you have to have the right software for that!If you follow this tutorial, your newly created "icons" will be unusable! Creating your own icon can be (and usually is) very difficult, because you have to define the transparent, inverted and semi-transparent areas of the icon...

Remove that worm first before installing SP2! Besides, it may take a while before you receive it! First, end the msblast.exe task to make sure that your PC won't restart. Then, go to this web site and scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find the instructions on how to remove the worm: http://www.pchell.com/virus/msblast.shtml There are patches available from Microsoft also right here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download PS: Try not to double post please...

I use emoticons --> :-)) instead of LOL. Maybe sometimes a little "hahahaha" is in order, but I really hate when a friend of mine is chatting with me on IRC, and floods me with "hhhahaahahahhhaha" or ":-))))))))))))"... I mean, that's just too much.

You can try to update all of your device drivers, maybe one of them is causing the problem. But, first... Try Microsoft's tool "BootVis". You can download it from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/BootVis.shtml It worked for me, hope it works for you too! I know it sounds stupid, but... You can also try reinstalling Service Pack 2. Yep... You heard me right - SP2. I reinstalled the newest version of Service Pack 2, and now my PC boots up faster than ever!

If the computer has a Hard Disk, then the problem may be located in the BIOS settings. You can enter the BIOS by pressing DELETE when turning on/restarting the computer. Once you are in it, try searching for an option "Primary boot device" there and make sure that it has the name of your HDD (example: "Maxtor 80GB"), or something like "HDD-0" next to it. Save the changes and exit the BIOS. The computer will automatically restart. If that fails, then an operating system is not installed. In order to install windows on an empty hard disk, you need to repeat the steps above, but instead of setting "HDD-0" (or whatever) to be your primary boot device, set it to "CD-ROM", and your "Secondary boot device" to "HDD-0". After you have made these changes, make sure that you save them before exiting the BIOS. Your computer will automatically restart, but and make sure that the WinXP CD is inside your CD-ROM drive before it does. After that, you know the drill... If you are planning to open your PC, it's not a big deal! Just make sure that the power supply cord is disconnected, and you can open up the case. The case can be opened in many different ways, it depends on how the manufacturer made it. The easiest way is by pressing a button which will snap the side of the case open. The second, more common way, is to remove the screws on the back side of the case in order to remove the side, some screws are enlarged and can be easily twisted off by hand, while others have to be removed with a screwdriver. Once you have opened up your case, you can "explore" what is in it. Avoid touching the circuits if you are not well grounded (touch a cold water pipe to do it, for example), otherwise you may damage them (in most cases, you don't feel a thing on your hands when you damage a component). The hard disk should be located at the front of the case, beneath the CD drive, and you should notice it easily. If you don't recognize it, there should be a label with the name of the manufacturer (Maxtor, Western Digital, Samsung...), and a bunch of information about the number of heads, cylinders and sectors on it. It's a very weird feeling . Especially when having contact with the power of 220V~ @50Hz!
