  1. If anybody is interested in the Serbian Idol, take a look at this http://www.momoshare.com/
  2. That really is a nice story, I saved it in my "drafts" folder and it is ready to be sent to anyone that needs some cheering up! Thanks OpaQue!
  3. Yeah, but unfortunately, "all" means more money , and I doubt that some people have much of that... Of course, many people also like to experiment with Linux on Mac too, so getting a Mac won't be a reason to say goodbye to Linux!
  4. One word - LOL :(I know what it's like to get invited to fix somebody's PC, and then get lied to! Once I was fixing a friend's PC at his place, and he answered with "nope, didn't do anything" to any question I asked him about any recent changes or program installations that he may have initiated on his PC. He doesn't understand that it's not embarrassing to answer that question! It's his PC and he has the full right to do anything with it, and answering my questions can only speed things up! (turns out that he tried to reinstall Windows himself, and failed)Anyway, that really is grade A stupid! Their "repair" costs will eventually rise above the price of 5 legal Microsoft Windows XP copies, and then they will (hopefully) learn their lesson sooner or later!
  5. Whoa whoa whoa! What's all this about? You should be grateful to the person that wrote the drivers for your devices! They could also just go and do something else instead of writing device drivers for some dude that just got a new e.g. TV card. There are numerous reasons why the manufacturer of some hardware equipment does not write drivers for Linux, but only Windows: 1) The company just does not feel like it 2) The company employees don't know how to do it 3) The company has an unwritten "contract" with Microsoft that pressures them to hesitate writing drivers for Linux 4) etc. So, it's not some coder's fault that the drivers do not work well, after all, most manufacturers even refuse to publish any driver writing documentation for their devices and, therefore, leave the driver coder nothing to start with! That's the primary reason for most non-working/partially-working drivers for Linux being present on the internet. Why do you think NTFS disks are read-only in Linux? Because Microsoft won't publish any information about writing drivers for the NTFS file system (I guess we should all understand why)! So, give it a rest already!

    My Mom

Wow... Now that was a mouthful! I concur with everybody else here when it comes to the conclusion that your mother really needs some help! On the other hand, I'm very happy for you because you turned out to be a very nice person, despite your mother's behavior! So, just keep it that way! Sooner or later, you will be your own man, and you will be completely independent from your mother, then you should see if her situation improves, or goes downhill... If it goes downhill, it's again up to you to decide if you want to help her or not, but at least you don't have to take that bull***t from her every single day... Anyway, just hang in there and know that we are always here to help!
  7. Of course I do!I really like to read all sorts of forums, it's quite relaxing, and Xisto is not an exception, so the answer is definitely YES. Like amhso said, you can't post something decent without reading the other posts first... And everybody knows that off topic posts are quickly removed by numerous moderators around here, and that's another bonus for Xisto - no spam whatsoever, mmmm... it's like a dream come true! All of this is topped off with hosting credits, so you can expect a warm feeling inside you once you click on "Add reply" button :(In the end, it all comes down to this: you must read the posts, whether you like it or not... (which is good!)
  8. I have changed the calendar system, if I have made a post on a certain day displayed on the calendar, it will become a link, and clicking it will forward you to a page where all posts made on that same day will be listed.Oh, and Kenny is my favorite South Park character, I have placed a picture of him as my avatar on all forums that I have registered on, so, he actually is my logo, sort of! And now for the comment spamming protection system, coming soon... :(Once again, thank you all for your suggestions!
  9. Yeah... I guess I should add a visual confirmation section ("Type the word you see on the picture into this box") in the comment system. Will get back to you as soon as I finish it :(Thanks for the suggestion T100!
  10. Thanks for the feedback xJedix! The first suggestion is really constructive and I will surely implement it soon! I will also think about the second one... Maybe you've actually got something there...
  11. There's always this:"Could we exchange pictures?"
  12. As you can see, I have created a blog of my own. And when I say "my own", I'm talking about everything on it (well, maybe a few icons are "stolen" )! The design and the blog script is entirely created by me. My first post on it should explain why I have created my own blog script, instead of using Blogger or Wordpress... I have also created it in such a way to store everything in files on the server, not in a MySQL database... (I was planning to host it on Xisto.com, and because of the MySQL downtimes, I wanted my site to be available even when these downtimes occur... eventually, I have decided to host my blog on a different host and use my Xisto account for something else, but it was too late as I have already finish the script ) Well, enough chit-chat, tell me what you think about My Blog Any suggestions are welcome! Notice from jlhaslip: fixed link
  13. Something similar to this has already been posted here: http://forums.xisto.com/index.php?shoic=9683&hl=icon And in the same topic, I have stated out why you shouldn't use this method to create your icons! You MAY trick most browsers by creating a favicon in paint, or just renaming the icon from e.g. bmp to ico, but it still isn't an icon!
  14. That means you can either keep your existing Xisto subdomain name (e.g. yourname.trap17.com), or you can register your own domain (http://www.mydomain.com/) and use it with Xisto (only following a few steps inside your CPanel is all it takes to configure your domain name to point to your Xisto hosted site). But if you choose the second option, remember that it's up to you to register a domain name!
  15. If you have a piece of s**t for a power supply, then the surge protector can't protect you! Some low-quality (and, yes, very cheap) power supplies are widely used and they sometimes "decide" themselves to burn out and damage a part of the motherboard, or any other PC components that are connected to it, just by letting in a higher voltage come through the MB. Those cheap power supplies are made out of very cheap and unreliable parts, and most of these parts will work for only a year or two... Remember, power supplies come FIRST, followed by surge protectors and UPSs. If you are searching for a good power supply, be sure to check out Chieftec!
  16. Nice find! Just signed the petition myself...Although, I still don't get ATI's attitude towards Linux! It's not that hard to write some working drivers, now is it? They still don't realize that a great number of people are buying nVidia GFX cards because they are fully supported under Linux...
  17. Don't know if that's the case now, but when I was downloading something from Megaupload.com a few months ago, the maximum speed was about 7-9KBps(!)Asked a friend with a higher bandwidth connection to try and download the same file as I did, and he got the same results.BTW: Nobody mentioned the maximum upload file size: 250MB (used to be 500MB).
  18. Just a question... How to disable download managers from downloading e.g. RAR files from a folder called e.g. "downloads" on Apache?I'm guessing that I need to enter some commands inside the .htaccess file in the folder "downloads" so that resuming of downloads is disabled and multiple connections from the same remote host are forbidden. Do these commands even exist?
  19. We will manage somehow :DFor example, today, we use multiple processors or one processor with multiple cores! Besides, it has been proven that Einstein?s theory that says "There's nothing faster than the speed of light" is incorrect. Many scientists made a super-fast laser (with speeded up electrons) that is faster than the speed of light, and in this case, we are using lasers, so some speed improvement is possible! If not, then we can shrink the size of the laser sources and, therefore, speed things up a notch!
  20. My personal favorite is hibiscus tea! It's a dark colored tea, and when you add some sugar/honey in it, it has a delightful sweat-sour taste (no lemon needed for me)! It can also be cooled down and be served as ice-tea (never tried it that way, but I just might do that soon). Good stuff! Here, in Serbia, we mostly drink chamomile tea (yellowish color, don't really like it's taste), mint tea (dark green color - very refreshing!), eglantine tea (dark red color, has a bit sour taste - love it), linden tea, elder tea (best picked when in it's final blooming stage) and white mallow tea (hate it's taste , but it's supposed to be very good for you). I guess that?s it :DBTW: Just drink the real stuff! Avoid "strawberry tea" or "cherry tea"! In my country, it's just some strawberry/cherry flavored herbs (and they taste awful too) packaged in a pretty box...
  21. Nope, wrong...Windows Vista's main hardware friendly feature is the fact that it will mostly be using the computer's graphics card (at least 64MB of memory is required to have on it) and NOT the CPU to draw complex animations and effects. But it will require more RAM. The minimal system requirements for Windows Vista are not formed yet, but it will surely be less than the current ones, once it is optimized for usage, not for testing purposes...I have installed Windows Vista Beta 1, and it looks pretty much unfinished... The new browsing system is pretty neat, but it "burns up" my HDD when browsing through folders (because it is showing the contents of every folder inside the small folder icon). Explorer.exe crashes frequently, but reloads and works perfectly again :DA Windows Media Player 10 - like player is included with it. Although it is classified as WMP10, in the about box there is a title "Microsoft Windows Media Player 11", so Microsoft is definitely cooking up something for us! The desktop has large icons on it, and they can only be enlarged, not shrunk to the current 32x32 pixels default size that we have on Windows XP, bummer. Of course, Vista is always asking for the user's permission to "do something"! E.g. when running a driver configuration utility, Windows is asking me whether I want to allow that action. I only know the name of the application, not it's details nor the information regarding what the application is actually trying to do! (big minus)All in all, Microsoft has some work to do around Vista if they wants to push the Linux tide wave at least a few cm's away... Vista is still "half XP" from the inside, so that other half obviously needs work. Of course, some features are probably hidden from the Beta version in order to prevent users from actually using the system, instead of testing it.As always, if you can?t install Windows Vista, take a peek at some screenshots at Paul Thurrott?s SuperSite for windows: http://winsupersite.com/
  22. A transistor also doesn't heat at all when it's working as a stand alone component in a small e.g. amplifier device, yet thousands of them on a small surface as a processor do , also, laser printers heat up pretty well, don't they? But of course, they wouldn't even try to build one of these if you would need a liquid nitrogen cooling system for it (but I'm still very interested in the solution to this problem), so we won't just enjoy lightning fast speed (literally), but also less heating and more quieter computer systems (finally!). Maybe they will even cut down on the power usage of the optical processor and it will eventually be used in laptops that will run for days without recharging! mmm... can't wait If anybody is interested to transfer some analog data VIA a laser (voice/music in this example), you can do it in just a few steps: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Enjoy!
  23. LOL!That's just plain WRONG, and you can't "kill" a server like that! You can only choke up it's connection to the internet, and that's still a maybe (first condition: a xxx MBps connection).Such attacks are called DoS (denial of service) attacks and attacks from multiple computers are called DDoS attacks (distributed denial of service attacks). If you intentionally use them, then there is a **SMALL** chance that you will get in trouble. Anyway, if you ping a server like you're crazy (with large packets), you will probably be warned first. And if you are dumb enough not to stop, then you will (again: maybe) get into trouble. This is the worst case scenario... But, when you ping a server, you BARELY do anything to it! If you open a web site hosted by that server, you will do more "damage" to it then pinging it!!! After all, servers were made to serve, right? Besides, if the server feels that you are pinging it too much, it can simply ban your IP address, and... end of story. So, feel free to use ?ping?, FBI doesn't care !
