How Many of You Use the C Programming language?
master_bacarra replied to red_dragon_here's topic in Programming
i used to like c when i was in my early years in college, since i use it to do my programs that were required in class. right now i'm using c for creating a compiler (one of my major subjects), but in most of my subjects i use java. i've made a transfer like two or three years ago because java helps to simplify most of the tasks that i usually have a hard time doing in c. -
Smoking Makes You Ugly And Unnatractive
master_bacarra replied to nonsmoker's topic in Health & Fitness
smoking is definitely a harmful thing. a smoker might not feel the effects but it will definitely come at a later time. and it will definitely cut someone's life shorter. initially it will cause changes on the physical look of a smoker (dark and chapped lips). it can cause diseases of the lungs such as emphysema and cancer.honestly speaking, i don't really find validity of the reasons of the smokers (some of my friends) on why they smoke in the first place. some tell me it gives them warmth, some say it calms them, and the worst one was "because it's cool". i personally don't think these reasons are valid enough for one to start smoking.i have weak lungs and it usually creates reactions just on a simple puff of smoke. that's why i hate the fact that i try my best to cure my lungs while these smokers try their best to destroy theirs. i'm not saying i want to smoke, it's just that i don't understand why they can do something like that to their own lungs, considering they have healthy lungs to start with. if possible, i'd switch with someone's healthy lungs and give them my own. -
i too, have worked before in my mom's school. my mom's a dean there and i was hired because i'm my boss' friend's son. actually, my boss at that time wanted an employee, but couldn't find one so she asked my mom if i wanted to work for the summer. i accepted the offer and i landed the job of being a computer laboratory assistant. although to my surprise, i was transferred to the encoding group of the enrollment section of their school since it was the start of summer classes back then. it was a difficult task since i had to familiarize myself with the programs they use to encode the subjects. not only that, blending in with the staff is kinda difficult since after all, they look at me as my mom's son. she's well known, so being stuck behind her shadows made it more difficult to work with my officemates.my wage is similar to that of a typical worker. and like salamangkero, i'm also in the philippines. converting the amount to dollars, i'm earning around $6 or something like that per day.

Is There Life Anywhere Else On The Universe ?
master_bacarra replied to red_dragon_here's topic in Science and Technology
this is one of the reasons why i wanted to be an astronaut when i was young. i've always wanted to explore stuff that's beyond our planet's reach. outer space is so vast and most likely there are other galaxies with systems that closely resemble ours. it's possible, of course. the only thing is we really don't know since we can't travel lightyears to explore the entire universe. it gives me so much thrill and excitement to know that we're just a small particle relative to the vast universe.with regards to the pluto being removed from the solar system, the news shook me up. but i've read that people who feel affected by the decision, like me, should look into the brighter side of things. that is, with the discovery of other "dwarf" planets like xena, which is also on the outer recesses of the system, gives us the proof that the universe is really vast and that there are other stuff out there that we don't know of. who knows millions of years later, people in the future probably have the technology that gives them the capacity to cross boundaries, limits that we cannot reach at this moment. i'm starting to think that i want to be reincarnated to know what will happen in the next lifetime. -
i've tried putting my wml files in my account and it works. of course i used an emulator to test to see if it's really working, since i don't have a phone that can access wap sites. unfortunately, i'm still stuck with a gsm phone that's not really mine. it's just a temporary thing, since it's just a project required in one of my subjects.

tsk. that's one heck of a nightmare. but why are you living with your uncle? don't you have your own house with your parents? hmmm.. or did your parents want you to live with your uncle because it's close to school? whatever the reason maybe, it's a good thing you went out for sometime, i mean staying with your boyfriend. better let things cool off, but you know sometimes, if people are like that (i'm pertaining to your uncle), trying to change them is not as easy as A-B-C. you could at least try and reach out, but i don't know if your uncle's case is the worst. and even if everything has cooled off, when you come back, it will always become a routine (what happens to both of you), and in the end you might have to consider moving out for good. you could always ask for help from other relatives so they could back you up just in case something bad is to happen (i sure do hope nothing like that would happen).

What Would You Do If There Was No Internet? hmm...
master_bacarra replied to whyme's topic in Science and Technology
i would probably be having withdrawal symptoms. i could recover from it, but i guess it will take time, especially now that i'm more in need of resources that only the internet can provide. it's fast, reliable, and convenient. although i still do use the old method of searching (like manual in the libraries), but when i need information in a jiffy, the internet's for me. so i say i'd be doomed if there's no internet. -
do you want me to get started? i woke up late, realizing that i only have 30 minutes to prepare before i go to school. i also found out that i ended up sleeping that night, instead of reviewing for an upcoming exam. that's not all, since i fell asleep, i wasn't able to do two assignments, one of which is an essay and the other was... oh never mind. anyway, i had to type my essay quick in order to pass it to my prof.my glasses were useless and i wasn't able to clean my contact lenses (since, like what i've mentioned, i slept that night), so i was considered partially-blind. i wasn't able to participate well in class since i couldn't see what my prof was discussing. even if i come closer to the board, i wouldn't be able to see it.i took an exam knowing that i haven't reviewed much on it. my ballpen got drained out of ink in the middle of the exam, so i had to buy a new one. i wasn't able to answer well since the exam was time-constrained. i'm only glad that i was able to answer the required number of entries, although my answers weren't really that good.i got the results of my exam in one of my major subjects. to my surprise i got a low score, compared to what i was expecting my score would be. to make things worst, my prof gave me a deduction for an item that she said she couldn't understand my answer. jeez. for me, my answer was clear enough, but it wasn't for her. it's a decent score, but i needed a higher one.good thing the day ended well despite what happened to me. although i can't remove the fact that i'm not trying hard enough to achieve my goals for this semester. tsk.

What Were You Scared Of As A Child
master_bacarra replied to HiDDeNMisT's topic in General Discussion
i remember when i got sick, i had this nightmare that i was playing with some in a garden. when this other being (i used the term because i barely remember the dream, i only remembered the things that made me freak out) told me to pick a flower, i was choosing between two, a medium sized daisy and some small flower, i don't know the name of the flower but it's really small. when i took the small flower, all of the sudden the ground started shaking. i later realized that there's a giant that's after me for an unknown reason. he wanted to squish me or something. that dream really freaked me out. i remember when i woke up, i was high in fever and i mistook my dad who was sleeping that time, the giant that tried to kill me in my dream.even up to now, whenever i see small flowers, i just try to appreciate it by looking at it and not touching it. actually, it's not just flowers. anything that is small brings a bit of fear. when in my room with no lights, i tend not to stare long enough on the ceiling because it feels as if the ceiling is moving farther away and since it's far, it looks small... usually i try to close my eyes out of fear, but sometimes, the darkness that i "see" when i close my eyes also suggests that things are far that's why i can't see them in the dark. i end up leaving my room and try to do some other things and come back to bed when i feel a bit better. -
Do You Know How To Cook? Who cooks their own food?
master_bacarra replied to FLaKes's topic in Health & Fitness
i can cook! i don't usually follow recipes since i love to experiment on cooking. now, i'm learning how to bake, but you have to follow directions carefully in baking. hehehe. i want to be a chef, a master chef one day... maybe after i get a job and save some money for enrolling in a culinary arts school. that's one of my dreams (not my childhood ones though). -
Dsl Problems in relation to processes running
master_bacarra replied to master_bacarra's topic in Software
and i have to put my last and final update on this one. it seems that the problem was not the router or any processes for that matter, it's the OS itself. i've reinstalled our windows xp in our computer and found out that i don't encounter this kind of problem in the newly installed OS. although i'm wondering how that happened, since both the old and the new OS are windows xp professional. hmmm... but just as the same, i'm happy that i don't encounter such anymore. -
Dsl Problems in relation to processes running
master_bacarra replied to master_bacarra's topic in Software
i have an update on this one. i was trying to backup all my files by transferring it to another hard disk (our first hard disk when we bought the pc). i tried opening a video since i was kinda bored, when i realized that it's not choppy, unlike when the file was placed in this current hard drive. i turned on the router to access the internet so i could gather information on how to reinstall windows, when i realized that the router doesn't affect the playback if the files are stored and placed on a different hard disk other than what we're using right now. weird, but that's what's happening right now. -
i'm using 4 scanners. avg free, ad-aware, spybot s&d, and ewido antispyware. the system hangs in at least one of them (while scanning). usually i start with avg so whenever the system hangs, i end up not scanning the system anymore, since scanning my system in avg will take me up to 2 and a half hours (just on avg alone).
-
well, that would be a bummer. like what i've said, whenever i do scans, i usually end up having the system hang during the middle or probably at the end of the scan. now i'm thinking of considering reformatting the pc and doing a clean install of windows xp.
-
oh sorry, i didn't make that clear. by that i meant that there are stuff that i can download but there are others that i can't. for example, i am able to download zip files and installation files, but i can't download html, text, or xml files (just to name a few) directly. i have to copy the entire thing on the notepad and save it locally. and the ctrl+j doesn't work as well. it's kinda weird, since i'm experiencing a lot of malfunctions in the pc these days. i really do think i have to reformat. too bad i haven't done any clean install of windows ever in my entire life.
-
i've recently noticed the my mozilla firefox doesn't download the things that i download from sites. there are some exceptions, but most of the stuff can't seem to be downloaded. i've reinstalled the browser but it still doesn't work. now i'm thinking that a virus has affected my browser as well. maybe i really have to do a reformat on the system. tsk.
-
is it better to scan your system in safe mode? i've been having virus problems recently and i really need to scan my system, but whenever i try to do it, the system hangs because of the virus (or at least that's what i think is happening). at first i assumed it was hardware problems, but i checked it and i didn't find any problem. i recently tried scanning in safe mode, but after i switched back to normal mode, it seemed as if the scanning didn't help at all. or maybe it worked, that i just didn't notice it.

Windows 2000 Versus Windows Xp
master_bacarra replied to master_bacarra's topic in Operating Systems
so just because you're SOOOOO good at this that you're bashing other people who aren't? what gives you the right? what gives you the nerve to tell me that i'm not doing things right, the way you think what you do is the right way huh?! and like what i've said, i admitted what i think was wrong in surfing the web, but that doesn't make me stupid, because as far as i know i only surf on the net for relevant stuff like my mail or my blog and the blog of my friends. so don't go pointing out that i'm stupid.don't get me pissed off. you're one of those people that i can't stand. just like the one who bothered me in the other forum. -
Windows 2000 Versus Windows Xp
master_bacarra replied to master_bacarra's topic in Operating Systems
thanks for all the help you guys. right now, the scans that i've done have decreased the amount of virus found on the pc, but there's some that still can't be removed. one particular problem is this adware called Adware.Virtumonde that keeps on infecting my pc, thus my ewido keeps on blocking it. it's the line of defense that i have at the moment, not until i do the reinstalling of the os. i'm not reformatting the pc as of the moment, since i still have deadlines to catch and as i've said, i'm pretty much preoccupied with academic stuff and all. my primary concern is security although i know that i have to have the latest patches in order to be protected against these attacks. the problem is, as i've said, this version (of windows) is not genuine since we don't have the original installer since this pc is just second hand. and we've already changed the motherboard after the previous one got burned from overuse, so the previous windows os installed in this pc is long gone. i do not know where my brother got the installer for the current windows installed here, so there's no point in using "windows updates" here, thus this pc became prone to attacks.i do admit that i'm an internet freak, but i guess i become a bit careless sometimes. anyway, thanks again for all the replies, and i will surely update you once (hopefully sooner) this pc has been reformatted. -
How To Make Firefox Faster If You Have A Broadband
master_bacarra replied to mukund's topic in The Internet
hmmm... i don't see the difference. maybe it's just me. oh well, thanks for the tip anyway. -
ok so i'm in my last resort now since my pc is attacked by so many malware that my antimalware can't even remove. i'm tired of doing scans, it consumes too much of my time just to remove such problems. i'm currently using windows xp and we just found out that our copy is not genuine. this version has been installed like a couple of months ago, and i've already experienced so many virus attacks. i'm a busy person now and i can't afford to lose precious time just by doing scans and experience hangs while doing such scans. and i definitely can't afford to use a system that is slowed down by so many viruses.my question is i want to know the difference between windows 2000 and xp. i'm thinking of reformatting and installing windows 2000 since my classmate told me that he didn't experience any of the stuff that i mentioned on windows 2000.

Dsl Problems in relation to processes running
master_bacarra replied to master_bacarra's topic in Software
the pc's perfectly fine, no viruses, spywares and all. i've ran scans and i'm free of that. i've also tried changing the settings (since i also have the same settings as yours so i don't know why i'm experiencing the problem) but to no avail. anyway, i'm currently downloading some updates. i hope there's no problem once the updates have been installed. i'll keep you posted.update: well, the windows media player update wasn't able to fix the problem. nor was downloading iTunes. tsk. maybe it is the processor. oh well. -
Dsl Problems in relation to processes running
master_bacarra replied to master_bacarra's topic in Software
i've tried what you've advised and checked which process uses the cpu whenever i turned on the router. windows media player uses too much cpu so i switched to winamp. i tried turning off the router and played using winamp and looked at taskmanager. the player only uses around 8 percent while the rest is the system idle process. then i closed the player and turned on the router. taskmanager shows that the process which is running is "system" and the rest is system idle process. it doesn't take that much of the cpu and if i ran both the router and the player, it's just around 20-25%. so i'm wondering why the opening of the router affects the player that much. -
Dsl Problems in relation to processes running
master_bacarra replied to master_bacarra's topic in Software
no, i didn't install any software for the router, or at least the dsl guy who came here and connected the dsl. -
so we've just had dsl connected a few days ago. i'm currently enjoying the fast connection and i have downloaded large files that i couldn't download using dial-up. but i noticed that whenever i turn on the router, other programs end up running slower. one very obvious observation was windows media player. i'm a music lover and i turn on wmp everytime i work on this pc. but whenever i turn on the router so i could connect using dsl, the sound become choppy and plays slow. at first i thought it was just about the "processes running" and the "cpu usage" since i know that wmp uses a lot of the cpu thus making running other applications seem unthinkable. so i downloaded a more lightweight application (or at least i think so) to play my mp3's - winamp. but it goes the same way as wmp. i don't know why it's happening, but one reason i think would be the cause of this is the processor (although i don't know what processor the computer has).do i have to configure some stuff in order to fix this problem?
