That's a really good bit of graphics but hardly the right dimensions for it to be classified as a wall paper. I also remember exactly where I was, I was in year 12- finishing off my high school career, I was grinding at the books to make sure I could get into univeristy and it was just such an incredible shock to get the news. I remember how people in South Africa were watching the television, we were all just speechless, has no idea what to say and one feels so helpless.

Wow, I have not heard of anything but would love to do a little more research and read up about about it. I always knew that it would happen sooner or later but just never thought it would happen in my lifetime. Of course I presume that many of the trap 17 forum regular members would all have watched the great trilogy of the Back To The Future series with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Llyode. They were and are still basically my absoulte favourite three movies of all time. They were so incredibally well done and entertaining, all three of them, that's something that movies just wish they could pull off these days.Sorry for the Back to the Future tangent there! I get emotional when I think of those movies. If anybody has any information regarding these apparant new flying cars I would love to hear all about it, I'm excited to see exactly how they work and whether or not the average consumer would be able to afford the costs of buying the car and then on top of that the elusive cost of running the sky-mobile(doubt that's what it's called, but it sounds pretty cool)

Roller Coasters In the last 5 years.....
Dawid replied to Mysterio's topic in Science and Technology
Thanks so much for putting that image on(barring it is a bit big . That is an awesome photo and man I would love to go for a little bit of a cray spin on that bugger. I've been on the fastest rollercoaster in the world and that was absolutely stunning. I've also been on the highest freefall drop in the world and it was just all too much to handle, thought I'd need a new pair of pants while my legs were dangling free and you could see many many kilometers distance around you, the fall was crazy as well. The worst part was waiting, they just let you wait there for a little longer than you thought and your heart is pounding and you know that there is absoluteyl no way to back out of it now.I can't ever see digital giving me the same thrill as the real thing. If you're young enough it can(I remember absolutely loving digital rides and things as a kid) but these day's their pretty mediocre. You can't compare the thrill of hearing the "click click click click" of going up the hill on the roller coaster to some simulation that just throws you around like some sort of rag doll, not the same, and never will be in my opinion. -
This is one hell of a tough one. I could mention 5 amazing games currently but there are some games that I got so much enjoyment from when I played them as a teenager and also early teens. So I'm going to list my top 5 of all time and not currently. My top 5 games of all time1. Command and Conquer: Red Alert(best game I have ever played)2. Entire GTA series, incredible how they just kept on getting better and better.3. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 player split screen- when you can play as the truck.4. Duke Nukem 3d. I loved this 10 times more than the original Quake.5. Quake 2. Absolutely loved this game.

Strangely I didn't even know that the new Myst had even been released out to the public yet. I'm an extrememly big fan of both myst and riven. They are very testing and challenge you for hours. Myst especially was just unbelieavable, I remember playing that game for hours and hours into the night. To complete those games you really have to challenge your head and patience, at times you feel like killing the computer though as you struggle along. I have to admit that I have never finished either of them without a little assistance from a friend. Does anybody recommend MYST EXILE as better than the previous two? And did anybody here ever try Myst 3d? I remember seeing some of it on TV but never actually researched it or played it, just looked like an overhyped recreation of the original in my opinion.Would be fantastic to hear if this game is worth buying but to be honest I think I'll buy it anyway, just hope it doesn't take up too much time! I spent months playing the first two, gotta be a better way to spend life.

The Best Content Management On Cpanel
Dawid replied to lil_chris's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I have been using PHP-Nuke version 7.5 for about around the period of 6 months now. It's treated me really well and it's pretty much as simple as they come. Even though it is very simple it is more than capable because there is so much support for it all over the internet. I've downloaded tons of new features including plenty of "Blocks" and "modules". The only trouble I'm having so far is making a decent theme ;)hint hint;). If you want to make a website that is very simple to maintin and pretty effective in doing so PHP-Nuke is definately the one. From what I understand I think that the latest free version is 7.6 unless 7.7 is now free but I doubt that as it only got released to the public very recently. Go check out some websites like PHP nuke official homepage and get it from there. Also go check out sites like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ as they are pretty good at getting support if you need it. Basically I know very very little about PHP and I think my website isn't too bad and I manage to pull off the impression that I'm a little better than I am Some of the downsides include very poor user management features and also a lack of complete control. Even though you are the website adminstrator you are still pretty much left with basic features and feeling a little like you're on of your basic members. Still cool though and I think it'll be a while till I change! -
I've been going to school for a very very long time now. I completed a Bachelor of Science in South Africa and now I'm studying in Australia, a Bachelor of Business in e-business, still got 2 years to go in this one and then I'm going to do my doctorate in Bachelor of Science, so that's another 3 years... so all in all I still have 5 years to go but the best part is gonna be writing Dr. in front of my name instead of mr.! That kind of makes it all worth it:)
-
Thanks for letting us know about that. I've never really believed in any web accelerator but never realised that it could do something like that. I use PHP-Nuke and the whole admin panel is webbased so something like google web accelerator could absolutely reak havok with my website. Just wondering if there are any web accelerators out there worth having, I don't believe in them at all but you never know- maybe somebody has had some success with certain ones. I remember these web accelerators being huge before broad band. Every house you'd go to there would always be a little icon in the system tray of a web accelerator.

The Space do you think we will ever live on the moon??
Dawid replied to hellgate's topic in Science and Technology
Just to clarify, they havn't actually discovered water on mars or the moon yet. They've discovered evidence of water, similar- but fundamentally very different. However the evidence does some pretty conclusive.I don't think we'll be living on anything but earth in the immediate future. I think it will still be several hundred years before that becomes possible. Although look at how fast space technology is evolving. British founder of Virgin has already set up intergalactic airways and they will have commercial flights to outer space sooner than we think.Living on another planet would be a very fragile existence though. Here on earth the environment is perfect, literally perfect, for any creature to survive in- of course the human race is completely destroying this concept. To have to live in glass domes or anything like in the movies would just be too weird, I'm not saying that that is how one would be required to live on another planet but it would be a very different way of life to the one here on earth. Of course there are still many other galaxies and planets to explore! -
What Would You Do If There Was No Internet? hmm...
Dawid replied to whyme's topic in Science and Technology
If there was no internet I would be doing a lot more productive activities like jogging, playing lots of sports and things like that. I try to not spend more than an hour a day on the internet these days or else it just dominates your life way too much. There are 10 000 things better to do other than rotting away with the curtains shut speaking to people you don't even know and who you will probably never speak to again. -
Did We Land On The Moon? Did we land on the moon?
Dawid replied to adriantc's topic in Science and Technology
I know that there is a lot of ideas and pieces of evidence floating around saying that the moon landing did never infact occur at all. Although these bits of evidence and stuff does make me think for a little while I still like to think that we definately did land on the moon. The world changed drastically after the moon landing and it was one of the most influencial television events in history as most of the world watched "live" as Neil Armstrong too his first steps and misread his line(that's right, he was meant to say "one small step for A man" not just "one small step for man" but the next sentance was one which is too prolific for me to dismiss the moon landing as a conspiracy "one giant leap for mankind"- That's just amazing, I would've loved to have been watching that when it happend, it must have truley been so inspiring. -
Bearshare.. just like kazaa but even better
Dawid replied to ladyspanky's topic in Science and Technology
BEARSHARE IS BAD BAD NEWS! I installed bearshare a while ago and it puts TONS AND TONS of spyware on your computer. Currently without a doubt the best software for peer to peer sharing it is advised to used Shareaza. Shareaza is brilliant as it has absolutely no spyware or pop up advertisments or anything and whats even better is that it connects you to various peer to peer networks! yes that's right, it connects you to e-donkey, bitTorrent, gnutella 1, gnutella 2. It's great, I've been using it for a while now and am really happy with the results. It also allows you to control the application remotely. Go check it out on http://www.shareaza.com/, it's worth it. -
Changing Dvd Region Code does anyone know how
Dawid replied to spawn_syxx9's topic in Science and Technology
For the home dvd players it's not really a "hack" or a crack. I did it at my friends house, you just push a "secret" combination of buttons on the remote until finally a little menu pops up asking you what region to change it to- and almost always there will be the option of no region protection and then it works fine. Dabbling in firmware updates for your PC dvd player is where the real risk lies, I've done it before on my old PC though and it worked 100%- I was so nervous doing it, but helluva happy with the result -
I would imagine the task of complete Internet Explorer removal being very tough and not recommended at all. I'm pretty certain that Windows would really struggle to function without it as many facets of windows rely heavily on it. When you click on help, my computer or anything really it is in an Internet explorer interface. I'm not sure whether or not it does actually use internet explorer when in my computer and other things but it sure feels like internet explorer. You should pop the question to microsoft- see what they have to say about it

Voip(voice Over Internet Protocol) real money saver
Dawid replied to Dodger's topic in Science and Technology
Voice over IP is definately the way of the future. Although they have been used for a while. Voice over IP is what allows those international calling cards backpackers use to phone so cheap! It only uses the conventional line to call the local relay point that then makes the call via the web to the other local side and then to a phone, so the only charges when calling from an international calling card are essentially two local calls as opposed to two local calls and an international call, cuts off a huge amount! I can call the states or the uk from my international calling card for well under a cent per minute, it makes keeping in touch a pleasure as email or messanger doesn't always cut it! -
Changing Dvd Region Code does anyone know how
Dawid replied to spawn_syxx9's topic in Science and Technology
Yeah, there are tons of websites with lots of information. There are even methods to change regions on most tv dvd players believe it or not. there's always some combination of buttons you have to push on the remote to eventually access the region change setting.Although there is tons of information regarding hardware firmware updates for region codes I still havn't been able to find one for mine and have found other people posting the same questions on the web. I've recently bought a nice new dell laptop and if anybody knows where I can find the region "update" for the sony/dell dvd writer for laptops please let me know. It would be greatly apprichiated! I'm stuck on one single change left. -
Wow! That's just unbelievable. Techology is just advancing so ridiculously quickly. I remember when I bought a 4gb hard drive years and years ago and none of my friends could believe(or anybody in fact) that I'd bought such a ridiculously big drive. I still remember everybody saying "how on earth would you ever fill up so much space" and "nobody needs that much space, it's just stupid"- I put the last quote down to pure and simple jealously though. What I find most impressive is that transfer rate, that's really an amazing rate of transfer and would be tough to beat. But I suppose until you click on write and it says "done!" immediately, nobody(including me!) will be satisfied!

Adobe To Purchase Macromedia. Wow! For 3.4 Billion (appox.)
Dawid replied to solankyno1's topic in Software
Wow, this is truley a massive and unpredicted(well by me at least) merger. Does anybody have any more detail than the article. At this present time those two companies are the two power houses in the multimedia community and with those two merged it could spell some truely amazing products. Does anybody know whether or not they are still going to be operating still under the seperate titles(like adobe photoshop will still be adobe photoshop and macromedia flash will still be macromedia flash) or are they looking at perhaps combining sepeare programs and coming out with a multimedia suite. Could you imagine the multimedia authoring power of a suite of those two combined(not to mention the price). I think it's great and the quality of product is bound to rise. One then wonders how much companies would be making if piracy wasn't an option- a lot more than they already do, that's for sure! Any more info on the merger would be truley apprichiated. -
I didn't even know that there was a Midnight Club 3 coming out? Do you know what new features it will include and maybe an improvement in graphics. I'll be amazed if they could improve on number two, but then again I always say that and I'm always impressed! If anybody knows when we could expect the next one it would be greatly apprichiated.

I am a big fan of Science Fiction but I'm not such a big fan that I like all sci-fi movies just because they're sci-fi. There's so much great sci-fi out there but even more, way more, really dissapointing movies of the sci fi genre. My favourite sci-fi would have to be the first matrix, really good- even though it was based on ancient principles, it was still a very original movie. I'm also a big fan of star wars but as time goes by it's starting to lose it's appeal a fair bit. I also still enjoy many of the old "classic" sci fi television shows such as Quantum leap. Some of the newer one are of real good quality and can be extremely enterntaining with particular reference to the stargate series. The stargate series was a brilliant adaptation from move to tv that many have tried and not pulled off.I also enjoyed more recent sci-fi movies such as minority report,

Windows XP is really great. What is fantastic about it is the fact that because it's memory management is much more advanced and program orientated the operating system doesn't give way completely if just one program decides to crash. Remember the dreaded "blue screen" in Windows 98 that basically only left the user with one options, hit the reset button. Windows 98 was horribly unstable and just overall terrible. Microsoft have hit the target well with XP's stability and ease of use, not to mention just basically a cleaner and more pleasing general look too.One of my favourite features is also the fact that Windows XP is just champion at detecting devices and setting them up for you. With 98 you always had to look for the drivers on the web and everything or on the CD's that you probably lost about 2 years ago when you bought the PC. When you install XP it makes it a pleasure by setting everything up properly.Does anybody remember when Bill Gates did the first public preview of Windows 98 in 97 and within the first 30 seconds the operating system had crashed with the blue screen- how embarressing is that! In front of all those people. I guess when your worth several billions of dollars you can afford to be embarressed though.Overall XP is the bomb. The only *BLEEP* things are the fact that all it's components take up loads of space and require a fair bit of RAM. But hey, with prices as cheap as they are these days for big hard drives and RAM, people have no excuse to stay on 98, in fact, I feel sorry for anybody who still uses 98 because it is pretty horrid.

The 1950's Miles Davis quintet has got to be one of the best of all time- kind of blue was just an incredible album, one of the most influencial of all time.Art blakey's jazz messangers was also crazy awesome, I'm actually listening to their recording of "moanin'" right now. What was the name of the 'davis group that also featured J.J. Johnson on trombone? Man they were some smoking cats.I'm one of the biggest fans of monk ever so I love anything featuring monk. The very first jazz song I ever learnt was "Blue Monk" by thelonius monk taken from "the real book"- the most simple piece but man it's awesome to improvise on.Louis Armstrong and his hot five were also a fantastic band.

How Long Has Your Site Been With Trap17? Just a general survey
Dawid replied to choetry's topic in Web Hosting Support
I've been with Xisto since october 2004. It's been a bit of a rocky journey at times but hey, you can't complain much when it's free. -
I've only played a little bit of World of Warcraft but have thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't have broadband as yet at my place but I've played at my mates place and was really really impressed. I never thought they could pull it off as well as they have.
