  1. I just got this new Nokia 2600 with my new phone contract. Its quite a handy thing, but it doesn?t have anything on the 6610, the one I had before this. Am I being too fussy though? Because although the 6610 could receive photos, it couldn?t take them and I wasn?t prepared to buy the camera attachment, but the 2600 cant take or receive photos. Traditionally though phone photos are not that good, unless you have something like the new Samsung D500, which is too smart for me. I would probably lose it before Id done anything useful with it. I suppose for my purposes all I really use it for is messaging and waking up, with the odd reminder thrown in there, so this 2600 is all I really need. Do any of you guys have a 2600? Or have any of you had one then upgraded/progressed to another model? It is quite robust though, and you don?t really have to worry about dropping it. Id really like to hear what you guys have to say.
  2. My favourite game character would have to be the fantastic Duke Nukem. I remember playing that game as a kid and absolutely loving his character. He's rough and tough and is impecible at getting the job done. I really wish they'd come out with another Duke already, I've been hearing about Duke Nukem forever since 1997! Can you believe it! You could even pre order the game off of a lot online merchants at one stage! Unbelievable!
  3. I myself am a huge command and conquer fan. It is an incredible strategy game and I absolutely love it and have ever since the very first one. I love the scale of the game, there are no restrictions on the size or formation of your army. I remember playing multiplayer with the original red alert when I was really young against a friend and we actually had a rule that only covert operations were allowed for the first two hours and that no bullets were allowed to be fired, just so that we could each build our armies up massively. Personally I find Red Alert to be my favourite game of all time! I was not absolutely impressed with Red Alert 2 and especially not tiberian sun. Generals was very average as well. I'm still waiting for another C&C game to astound me like back in the old days, when the gameplay was complimented by the story line and effort into the story.
  4. I have been using skype for a while now and am absolutely loving it. I find that it works perfectly and have chatted for hours on end to many of my friends abroad. It especially works well if both parties are using broadband internet connections, although I have used dial-up with broadband before and it was fine on the dialup side but had a slight echo on the broadband site. Voice over IP is definately the way of the future.
  5. Photoshop is an incredibally powerful program that has most certainly cost a lot to create as well as a lot of time. Strictly speaking there are no real fully free photoshop programs out there, and if you do happen to find one, chances are it would be illegal as well as possibly supporting a criminal's form of sustinence. Photoshop may be expensive but it does provide a fantastic service and is one of the best applications the industry has to offer. So I guess I'm basically saying- If you want photoshop, go and buy it.
  6. For the last 6 years I have always been using coreldraw, or more specifically, the corel suite for my graphical editing. I particularly grew fond of the corel photopaint application in the suite. I had, obviosuly, always heard of the rant and the rave about Adobe's photoshop though and was extremely interested in checking it out. I experimented a bit and now I can't believe I've been using photopaint all these years when photoshop was relatively easy and quick to grasp. On top of it's ease of use it has an absolute mammoth array of power filters and amazing use of color palletes. I really do feel like buying a book or something on photoshop as I still feel there is so much for me to learn! I've tried fireworks a fair bit but so far it hasn't given me the same enjoyment as photoshop.
  7. I didn't even know that there was one coming out soon, or am I wrong? The ipod craze is getting bigger and bigger every year- I hope significant competition can make it's way sooner or later, there has been talk of a move by microsoft and HMV to produce a competitive mp3 player as well as software like i-tunes. I know the software part is true for a fact as my older sister was one of the programmers for it and they just finished it 2 weeks ago!I can't believe that amongst this huge Ipod craze the fact that I still don't even actually own one, yet always read up about them and sort of feel like I own one... not cool, I better go buy one now.
  8. That is an awesome idea and it would be a website I would definately frequent from time to time. Although I must admit that I don't think there are many worthwhile quick and easy ways to make money on the internet. The only way I think works is if you have a good advertiser on your website and you have plenty of users that not only visit your website on a regular basis, but also actually are interested by what is being advertised and thus actually clicks on the banners. The way to accomplish this would be to relate the product/category on your website to the one that is being advertised.Having said that I would still definately check out your website. I have tried to make some money from surveys and stuff on the internet but nothing has been worthwhile, I don't blame any site either for not paying big sums simply because it's just not feasible. Think about it, if a website did actually pay decent money there would be 10000 users on by the next morning and thus it would instantly decrease the market value of your service. That is probably a downside to the internet, not being able to define your audience or being limited to defining your audience.
  9. I just recently bought a 512MB mp3 one off ebay. It's so awesome, really worth it, get about 9 hours of playing time from it and it has this awesome neat little LCD screen that actually displays the lyrics of the song as well as all the other information. I got it for pretty cheap, definately look into it. It's just slightly bigger than a normal flash memory stick. Another thing that's really awesome about it is that you can change the backlight of the LCD screen to seven, yes seven different colours. Highly recommended, I absolutely love it! Oh yes, I almost forgot, it's also a voice recorder and FM radio- you can also record the radio music. Off e-bay it's really not that expensive, in fact it's probably less than what you'd pay for a normal 512mb one in a retial store.
  10. The original nintendo was the best gift I think I ever received. It came with the two in one cateridge that had super mario and duckhunt, also came with that red gun. That was awesome, man I used to enjoy those games. I remember when I got "Link: The legend of Zelda" for my one birthday and it was a golden cateridge. That was just absolutely awesome. You could actually save your game in that one and in those days saving games were just awesome. I remember how cool those games were, so addictive, especially the adventure island series. That's it, I don't care, I'm downloading the Roms right now.
  11. I have been using a standard logitech optical mouse. I have a cool laptop and it's a pretty cool looking mouse too so it goes well with the laptop. I would really love to get a bluetooth mouse for my laptop, they're a bit pricey at the moment though but it would be ideal to never have to worry about the cords and stuff at all.
  12. This is a tough one and a topic that has made the feature presentation of many a current affair shows. Especially after Columbine.I would say that it may fuel an already disturbed mind and may even in extreme circumstances act as a catalyst for a form of violence but I also believe that the game itself cannot really start the need for violence or violent tendancies except perhaps at a very young age, pre 10 year olds maybe, at that stage your mind is very much affected through cognative development and it could be possible to be affected. It's all very debatable though.I do agree though that it's not healthy that such a ridiculously large portion of entertainment revolves around violence. Why does everything have to be that way? It's strange isn't it. An emotional response that most people would do anything to avoid is the primary form of entertainment. Sorry to say it, but the USA has a big role to play in this arena.
  13. Hi everybody, I really want to get into flash and I was just wondering if anybody here knew of any really good and really easy user friendly tutorial websites. I am a bit of a Photoshop junky so the whole graphics thing is not new to me but I feel that I would get off to a much faster start with flash with a bit of help from some experienced flash developers. From what I understand, flash is actually pretty easy so it doesn't have to be the easiest site to understand and it would be cool if it was also fairly comprehensive. I see tons of books and stuff available at the university book shop but with flash being an "internet language" I thought why waste the money when there is probably tons of information out there on the web already. I've done some searching but was basically wondering if anybody else has been in the same boat and could recommend any website. Thanks a lot!
  14. This is pretty interesting. I never really thought of actually testing my firewall, maybe that's why I've been getting so much spyware.Does anyone here recommend any free firewalls that would actually be better than say, Norton Internet Security firewalls? I still manage to get spyware and stuff through my Norton and it's starting to get annoying. The latest spyware/malicious software I have is something that doesn't allow me to access anything to do with microsoft. So I can't get onto MSN messenger, the microsoft site or hotmail or anything like that. I've read that lots of people have been having the same problems but I havn't as yet been able to find a solution. Does anybody here perhaps know how to fix it or perhaps what spyware is causing the problem? If I connect to the web immediatly as I bootup it's fine but if I leave it for a while and then only connect I usually land up having to reboot the computer first.
  15. That's is an interesting question and although I wouldn't be able to answer it 100% I would think that it is extremely unlikely as viruses "get in" through activity on the internet. You would have to actively be doing something on the internet, thus retrieving data for a virus to get onto your system. Although if you have spyware running, the spyware may also allow viruses in as they connect to servers at particular times or in particular intervals. The easiest way to prevent it would be to disconnect from the web or enable a firewall that lets nothing in or nothing out of your system when you are not active on the computer itself. Would anybody else here agree with me?
  16. Thanks so much! I completely forgot about windows movie maker- it should do the trick and from what I understand is very low on CPU usage compared to others. The only thing I need to do now is what you said, find a convertor to change from mov to avi or whichever format is compatible with movie maker. I doubt that would be too hard to find- that's the joy of the internet, anything you want to do, chances are somebody else has had the same thing in mind and the solution is at the tip of your fingers.
  17. Wow, thanks for letting us know about this. This is incredibly big news, I doubt anybody will really be able to predict 100% exactly the effect this is going to have especially in the multimedia development market where Mac reigns absolute supreme. I'll definately be following this very closely- Even though it looked like it would happen sooner or later I never really thought it would- although mac has always catered for a niche market they have always strived to bring the absolute best with no compromise. Intel, microsoft, etc are very keyed in with market demand, as in delivering faster products when they are needed, mac has always been more concerned about overall quality and that is one of the reasons why mac have usually had the policy of not having a deadline but rather releasing a product when it is up to the quality they expect from it.
  18. Hi everybody, I was just wondering if anybody knew of any free software out there which one could use to easily edit several video file formats. I've got tons of clips from my digital camera and would like to put some of them together with some music and captions and things like that. Transitions and stuff would also be very cool. I've started using Adobe Premier but am just really not in the mood to learn it as it seems a bit complex, very powerful I'm sure but not exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks a lot!
  19. My absolute best game of all time would have to be the great Command and Conquer Red Alert. I remember when I bought it I had basically never even played a strategy game before and my dad was buying it for me when I was like 13 years old. The only reason why I got it was because the guy at the computer store recommended it highly, I looked at the back and the graphics didnt appeal to me as I wasn't familiar with strategy but after reading all the information on the back I thought I'd give it a shot. To this day I still absolutely love and play that game, it's awesome, got such awesome units and no strategy game has ever beaten it in my opinion. I then bought Red Alert 2 when it came out and was heavily dissapointed, I was also dissapointed with Generals, not a good game.
  20. There are tons out there that I absolutely love but my all time favourite list would have to be1. Duke Nukem 3d2. Red Alert3. Quake4. Raptor: Call of the shadows5. Doom6. Wolfenstein 3d7. Blake Stone8. Lemmings(the original)9. Karateka10. DescentI remember how awesome the original lemmings was. It actually came with our Sound Blaster CD ROM package- remeber those days when a CD ROM came bundled with a sound card, I couldn't believe it the first time we installed it. I remember playing Sam and Max hit the road and thinking "Oh my word... they are actually talking, how is this possible?" , awesome. Does anybody also remember the original PC version of ninja turtles? Also very cool, man the original cartoon rocked.

    Video4skype

Thanks ssssoooo much for posting that there is a video plug in for Skype. I can't tell you how much I've been wanting this feature and for so long. What I've actually been doing was using a webcam in messenger and talking through skype to sort of get a "video conference" going, not quiet the same though is it.I'm also very happy indeed to hear that it works well as that is a bit of a worry as my broadband isn't lightning pace.
  22. It's pretty easy to get it on multiple computers but it is illegal, you wouldn't steal a car would you, you wouldn't shoplift would you, you wouldn't mug somebody would you?
  23. I absolutely loved Starcraft and was pretty surprised when they released a patch for it pretty recently, I thought wow, can't believe there are still people working on improving it. A second one would be awesome but it would have to be more than just the latest warcraft except in space, it would need to have it's own sort of uniqueness to it.I still play starcraft pretty often, I also play the original Red Alert very often. I absolutely love that game, like you wouldn't believe. Nothing like charging in with an army of 100+ tanks- Gotta love the fact that there was no limit in that game- I also love the covert missions that you can send units on. Like a spy, go in and steal half of there cash once they're loaded! Man, they don't make 'em like they used to!
  24. New copy protection and anti-piracy methods have, and will always be coming out better and better than the last one but as people in this forum have said- It really is only a matter or time before somebody works out how to copy it. The main problem is that no matter what data you use, no matter how encrypted, no matter how much money it has cost- it all boils down to the same thing, simple 1's and 0's- Data is data and you can do what you want with it but there will always be some or other way to manipulate and there are teams, literally teams, of people out there waiting for the challenge. Look at CD-keys and other forms of copy protection, usually methods for bypassing the protection are released within a day, if not within hours to unlock the package and make it free for anybodys use. The most effective copy protection of all time was when games started coming out on CD-ROMS and CD writers just wern't an option for the average consumer for a number of reasons, 1. They basically wern't available and 2. They were way too expensive. Hard drives were also still way too small to copy entire CD's especially when a video-intensive game like Wing Commander 3 came out on 4 CD's and the average Joe only had around 4GB's(absolute max) space and CD writers wern't around. What were the options, this actually led to software developers intentionally not compressing video and software as it made it much harder to copy as the easiest to do it would be to copy it on floppy discs. Does anybody remember when windows 95 came out and you could buy the floppy disc version and it came with somewhere around 40+ floppy discs, what a joke! Imagine the amount of calls Microsoft would have received during that time of faulty discs! Ha! I drool at the thought of the tech support going "Did you drop the disc at any time, format disc? no don't format it" ha ha ha!
  25. I promise you I felt a bit of nausea as I read that post. I could never ever imagine anything worse advertising or American wise. Sorry to say that but you have to admit that it does have United States of America written all over it- Looking up and seeing a pepsi logo. Imagine how terrible that would be, looking up and saying "well that's where the Southern Cross used to be but we can only see it from between four am and six am due to that large Coca Cola sign. It would be absolutely awful and should definately be illegal for a number of reasons. One of my reasons would be that the fact that it blatently invades the privacy of the average human being. If you want to just relax you should not be allowed to be bombarded by advertising, something that is already done to us with the irritating phone calls wanting you to get a subscription to some magazine that already has a ridiculous circulation. But with that at least you could argue that you have the option of not purchasing or using a phone, as it is a commercial service and upon the purchase and service use of the phone you receive what is seems to be a compulsory "benefit"- telephone advertising. But when it comes to looking at the sky we have absolutely no option, it's there, whether we like it or not. No matter where we go, or what we do, if we're outside(or even in a building) and look up, or out the window and seeing a pepsi advertisment is a blatent invasion of privacy. In a world where we have already, and continue, to screw up so much can't we at least leave some things pure- because at the rate we're going, it seems pretty much as if sooner or later advertising company's will be teaching birds jingles- it sounds pretty overboard and extreme, but I would never have guessed that people were even contemplating overrunning the sky and I personally don't think it will be allowed to happen, at least I hope!
