Power Supply For 200gb Hardisk what to buy?
HellFire121 replied to xiangqin's topic in Hardware Workshop
All i can really tell you is that you should be fine with what you have. I don't think there are much differences between capacity sizes, like a 100gb to a 200gb should use the same amount of power providing that they spin at the same rpm. See if you have a 7,200 rpm (i think it is that) compared to a 10,000 rpm hard drive then there would be a noticable difference in power usage. The other stuff that has an impact on your psu are your other components such as cpu and video card. So not knowing the exact model of either of them and assuming you'd have an older cpu/video card you should be fine on 350W psu-HellFire -
Yep, simplest example i can think of at the moment is with 3 fans, you have one at the front, bottom blowing in. Another at the front but at the top blowing in and one at the rear top blowing out. Here is a high preasure system that works on cooling the whole length of the case. Cool air flows in from the low level and at the top, cool air falls so it would fall down past components, gain heat and rises to be blown out at the top fan. There are other ways to do this but this is the setup i've seen people use and it has been used effectively.-HellFire

Removal Of Virus Possible remedies for Trojan Horse/ Dupator virus
HellFire121 replied to Nik1405241546's topic in Software
I seriously wouldn't try to clean or 'wipe' the kernell dll file. After some searching i found this 'The virus is unable to run on Windows NT and 2000.'So the Win32/Dupator can't actually start up on windows nt/2000 which includes xp and vista (I think..)Anyways, if you are on one of those OS'es you SHOULD be safe but there is a very high chance you have a load of other viruses. You can try a boot into safe mode (F8 if i remember correctly on boot screen) then run your antivirus and let it scan/clean. Also the fail safe option would be to reformat, though you'd need to reinstall everything and make sure you have backups of data prior to reformatting.Hope it helps!-HellFire -
Never Give Out Your Password! For real
HellFire121 replied to Nintendo's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Heh obvious tip here, anyone that isn't an idiot knows not to.Common sence here. It's the same as accepting files of other people, downloading programs you don't know etc..Just don't do it -HellFire -
Thats true, you don't need a router for the case you are in.Routers even though they allow multiple computers to access the net most also have inbuilt hardware firewalls which stops unwanted connections and gives you that extra protection against viruses.BUT in your case, since you have a mac this isn't a problem in my opinion. The security on the pc itself should be better then enough, also because it is a mac most trojans and viruses generally wont run so you are already mostly protected! All you really need is to keep your computer secure and your net connection is fineHope it helps-HellFire

What i would have done to protect my data would to back it all up to another slave hard drive in another pc, or as someone suggested above just take out the harddrive and when you get the computer back just fix all the issues yourself. It is good to have the backup of your harddrive anyways just incase something does go wrong and you lose a load of precious irreplacable data.Wonder what would have happened if you had a raid array (the one which makes 2 copies of each hd), if lucky you still could have had 1 hd with your data intact.-HellFire

That's probably your modem/router connection speed there Laurence (100mbps)Here in australia i pay about $40 a month for 256/64 (Yeah i know ) with 20gb of download limit. Not really efficient if you ask me but i'm going to stay like this until i can get adsl2+ hooked up.I'm hoping to pay about $80 a month for the full speed 24/1mbps with 40gb of downloads, thats way more efficient cost wise. Plus the isp i'm going with also has dedicated overseas links so i can expect little loading speeds-HellFire

Powercursor.com :: Feel Your Cursor Around Tha Page!
HellFire121 replied to niran's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hmm very interesting, this kind of stuff could be adapted in the future into games and maybe even sites to make navigation easier.I see it as an accessibility type of thing but it can also be a fun thing. Some of the effects there can be very useful in some of todays high tech sites, it can give them that extra finishing touch.Overall, very interesting, unique and can be adapted into something useful-HellFire -
Bravehost Hosting Is Not The Way To Go For the love of God...No
HellFire121 replied to mpinsky's topic in General Discussion
Yeah it would be good for first time web creators and little projects but overall you will eventually need a proper hosting plan because you can do nearly everything you could do on the crappy featureless free hosts plus much more on a real hosting plan, even the free hosts that allow cpanel are much better than the hosts that use a custom made system. The restrictions in place on the free hosts make it so you can only have like 2 pages and about 5mb of storage (just used as an example) means that you can't really get the most out of the service and you are limited to what you can do.-HellFire -
Depends on what you use it for and the price i reckon, because its small it is more efficient than a bigger memory card because it also saves space. It could be useful for people that like to keep their whole music collection on their phone and listen to anysong they want anywhere. Also it is another way for using your phone as a portable storage device because you only need to carry the one thing, it could save you from carrying a usb flash drive as well.Later on there would probably be other new stuff for phones that will use alot of storage space like new games that use better graphics engines and better technologies.-HellFire

Cannot Install Adobe Photoshop Cs3
HellFire121 replied to jimmy89's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
The cd could be scratched yes but there are two sides to the problem here. Physical damage to the cd and the files on the cd.There is a possibility that whoever manufactured the cd managed to copy over a broken file and didn't bother to test it. If this is the case there is nothing you can do, there is a problem with the data ON the cd so you need to get a replacement. If the cd is scratched simple story then just clean itI'd say that a file is broken on the cd since you've tried it on different computers, also some cd drives can read disks that others can't. If a disk is scratched you might come across a cd drive that can read it well and one that will lock up the computer. I doubt that it will be a scratched cd issue, most cds straight from the manufacturer are perfect, if not close to being scratch free. Even if there are scratches it will still work most times. To put it short, clean the cd. If it doesn't work it is a problem with the cd and you need to get a replacement.-HellFire -
Cable Internet Connection Requires Aol To Go Online?
HellFire121 replied to WeaponX's topic in Computer Networks
It's probably a conflict with his modems drivers, sometimes it will work sometimes it wont. Have you tried uninstalling aol then trying to go online?I doubt that it is something on the isp end because as you said it only sometimes works with aol signed outOtherwise i'm not too sure but it definately sounds like some sort of conflicting programs or drivers to me-HellFire -
Best way to fix something like this is to reformat, bad thing is you lose your data but it does have more positives over negatives in my opinion.Positives in this situation would be definately getting rid of the hack tool or virus the hacker used if you do a full format, also it comes with the added bonus of cleaning out your pc and making it faster.Negatives include the pain of reinstalling everything and restoring backups etc.If you do decide to reformat remember, never make a full system backup always backup individual files. It is less likely you copy the virus this way. Some other tips you can include are:Change passwords to frequently used sites and services (ISP password and paid services, as well as your router as you've suggested)If you don't want to reformat you can turn off system restore to flush out any copies of the virus.Scan your computer with multiple antivirus/antispyware and hack tool scanners. Remove everything they find.Boot your computer in to safe mode and scan again, also you can take note of what is running in windows that isn't in safe mode. (Safe mode only runs the required programs to get your computer running)Hope it helps anyone in trouble -HellFire

Usb Lan Network Cards!
HellFire121 replied to blackandwhiteentertainment's topic in Computer Networks
Thats the good thing about usb, you only really need the correct drivers to use what you want to use with it.Hense the name universal serial bus B)Anyways in a LAN environment my first preference would definately be an ethernet card. USB Just doesn't cut it in a LAN.USB is fine for one pc to router/modem etc.-HellFire -
My first vista experience was with a friends laptop. I hated it before and i still hate it. Yeah sure it looks nice and all but really it gets annoying how they have the whole virtual folder and real folder stuff, i personally have absolutely 0 need for virutal folders so that is another reason to add to the already huge list. Some other examples such as driver incompatibility are shocking. I couldn't even get the laptop on the net because the drivers were unsupported. Lucky it came with a dialup modem though to use the backup dialup account.Other stuff such as gaming. I am a gamer and i can say that the performance is WAY below what i'd expect, the core OS stuff takes up too much resources that drain game performance. As i have mentioned before i have absolutely 0 interest in upgrading to vista anytime soon, might wait until SP2 or something comes out for it-HellFire

Cool Email http://www.bigstring.com/
HellFire121 replied to hazemmostafa's topic in General Discussion
Seems ok but i use my Xisto hosting emails at the moment. If i need self destructible mailboxes i use something like pookmail.com which self destructs in 24 hours, no more spam for you.The specific self destruct feature that lets you destroy an email before it reaches the destination is amazing, i wonder how it's possible.-HellFire -
I wouldn't personally muck around with the registry like this, i'd rather use some tweak program (For example the type that comes with norton system works)Good info anyways but yeah as i said i wouldn't do this.I find that you can't do much editing with the command prompt itself. It's good for shell things like copying, running files, viewing services etc etc-HellFire

It is possible to do this but as someone said above it depends on how you configure it.For example you can have a downloading connection and a browsing connection, configured differently so basically you can browse at full speed and download at full speed. (Keep in mind though this will only work if you have 2 different connections, i'm talking 2 internet connections)I know someone that does this, though he runs a server on one and his normal stuff is on another one. It works quite well actually.-HellFire

Vista Transformation Pack Vista.....without the bugs
HellFire121 replied to Danmidas's topic in Software
I see no point in installing it, your desktop would look nice but still. I'd prefer faster performance over looks. I have used one different skin in the past and changed back, you get to the point where you have to relearn where everything is with some of these packs.Plus you never know what they can stuff up when you install them. Big risk in my opinion.-HellFire -
Email is stuffed again for me.Maildir invalid (no 'cur' directory)Had this before but it was fixed for about 2-3 weeks, starting to reappear now-HellFire

All domains should work properly. Just remember the full nameservers arens1.astahost.com (don't forget the .com)ns2.astahost.comYou can add the domain via parked domains or addon domains in your cpanel, depends on what you want to use it as.Simply put: A parked domain is basically a replacement for your subdomain (both will be accessible), an addon domain can be useful when you want to host multiple sites on the one account. For example you have a folder called home, you can add the domain to that folder to make a seperate site.Hope it helps-HellFire

Yeah personally i've worked with my friends vista laptop and all i can say is.. Hey it's nice buy the compatibility is a REAL letdown. You couldn't even jump on the net because the xp drivers were saying it was installed, though it wasn't.Anyways...I've checked the specs on the gigabyte 7900gs which is overclocked quite a bit and in benchmarking it actually meets and sometimes performs better than the 7900gt which is a few hundred $$ more.-HellFire

Z|a Blocking Home Netowrk! Using ICS over Wireless LAN
HellFire121 replied to Omkar™'s topic in Computer Networks
I personaly don't use zonealarm anymore though i used to use it so i don't know how apparent this info will be to you..You might want to check if there are any networks in the blocked zone (Or i think there was another zone too). If there are delete them and add them to the trusted zone. If that still doesn't work you might want to try adding a whole network range to the trusted list. I know zonealarm has it's own method of doing this but basically you want to allow a range of ip addresses from 192.168.0 to 192.168.0.255. Alternativly find out what ip your wireless adapter is running on (If it's different from the others) and add that too.As you can see the easiest solution is just to add every ip address.Hope it helps-HellFire -
I've always stood away from phpBB, even its lightweight feature list is enough for me. All the sites you see that have been hacked have most likely used phpBB, there are quite a few alternatives and i'd say any of them would be better than phpBB. You can go here: http://www.opensourcecms.com/ and check out the forum demos on the site. -HellFire
