  1. Cntrl Shift Esc is also not opening any diaplayable window except a small box in the status bar at the bottom of screen. The setting I had to change to install MSDE2000 in Control Panel was within Local Security Settings Unsigned non-driver installation behaviour -> Silently succeed
  2. I press Cntrl Alt Del and then click Task Manager on my computer (windows 2000) but cannot open a new window to display the list of open applications, processes etc.In the status bar I can see a blank box and a small green square associated with the Task Manager. This shows the CPU usage %. Recently I installed MSDE2000 software (MSSQLServer) and I had to make a change to a Control Panel setting. I am not sure if this has corrupted Task Manager. I am wondering if there is any patch to fix this.
  3. I am trying to find out if someone can obtain email address of another person or any other personal information in the computer by using a hacking software. Does the hacker need to access the other person's computer or do they do this any other way? What will be a comprehensive startegy to maximise internet security? Is antispyware software enough to stop others hacking into the computer and collecting any personal information?
  4. I want to modify an image in MS Paint and create a monogram/ logo. The drawing tools do not seem to be adequate to sketch a complicated shape. I cannot find any penlike tool to sketch. I am sure there are software packages that have this tool. Will I need any special device to draw or the mouse be alright to do this?
  5. I like to share our broadband modem and access Internet from the second computer. The 2 computers are not connected to each other. I am considering setting up a network of these 2 computers using a wireless access point and 2 wireless network cards. I assume the access point and the braodband modem will be attached to one of the computers and the other computer will be able to access Internet through the access point. Is there any other way of sharing the modem eg. using adapters/ extensions, like sharing the telephone line?
  6. Thanks for your suggestions. It hasn't happened in the last 2 days. If the system freezes again I will check the system log and try to find out if there is any clue. I was also thinking I should increase the minimum virtual memory space. I believe this should stop displaying a warning message about of the lack of virtual memory in the system.
  7. The AVG virus vault on my PC shows these 2 virus. Trojan horse.Dropper.Gerneric.HRO C:\Documents....... \rtf..exeWin32/Dupator C: Windows\Kernell32.dllThere is an Heal option is not active. I am wondering what will happen if I press Wipe Objects. Is there any chance windows can become unstable if Kernel32.dll file is removed? As it is not affecting anything, should I leave these files in the virus vault?
  8. I am looking to install a suitable version of antispyware software in my windows 2000 computer. I am a bit concerned it may slow down my computer. Have you experienced any deterioration in computer's performance due to the presence of antispyware? Is there any other way to avoid attacks from spyware? How do I know if spyware is attacking my computer?
  9. I am using a Pentium 4 computer (256 MB RAM) with windows 2000 service pack 4 installed in it. While using Internet through a cable braodband modem, the computer sometimes freezes completely. It no more responds to any keystroke or any left/ right mouse click. I then have to restart the computer to be able to use it again. I have noticed it happened once or twice when I entered some text in the Google search box and pressed the enter key. Has anybody experienced this problem and know how to resolve this? Has it got anything to do with the virtual memory of the computer?
