  1. Nice job anyways, even without an explanation of what things do someone that knows a bit of php/mysql can easily figure out what it is and how you got it to work. This can easily be adapted to form something better as well as giving a good example of how mysql can be used to secuerly store information.-HellFire
  2. I personally use Azureus for torrent downloading and Shareaza for other general file sharing stuff. Both are fast and lightweight and i highly recommend them to anyone that is looking. Both are also free and shareaza supports multiple networks.Check them out-HellFire
  3. I think it should work with the https if it's in the same directory, it should still work with the https prefix
  4. Also adding onto the xfire stuff, you can get a little nifty application you can use to integrate your msn contacts in xfire so in effect it allows you to chat on msn ingame. I seriously suggest you grab xfire, it has become the new msn for me and has been for quite a while. Xfire plus website: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Xfire plus msn integration download: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/download.php?list.10 Enjoy -HellFire
  5. It is very simple, in your archive you downloaded you'll notice an upload folder. You need to upload everything inside that folder to your forums folder on your webhost. Now you first need to set the permissions on the files and folders (chmod) You need to check your manual for this as it can change with each version. The manual is in the documentation folder. If you miss one or are unsure don't worry because the installer will tell you what you have missed. Now the installer is located in the install/index.php directory, you need to run this from your browser navigate to the site.Follow the instructions and wait while it automatically installs. You can come back in 5 minutes to find fresh new forums set up, next login to your ftp and remove the install/index.php file for safety reasons.Navigate to your new forum directory on your site and login. Click the Admin CP link and re authenticate yourself. The best way to set up your board first is to click on the settings tab and view every category changing what you need to.You can add/remove/change forums from the management tab.You can find addons/skins/images and more at: http://www.invisionize.com/ great site for anything you are trying to find to add to your installation.Hope it helps!-HellFire
  6. Nice guide there, i know a few guys that have tried dual monitors and it does give a big advantage. Especially things when they are playing games, they no longer need to alt tab out of the game which can be a pain for guys with low memory.Very handy to have though i don't know of any performance issues.-HellFire
  7. Yeah nice it has more damage than a two hander and it's a one hander. Most legendary items you can only use in instances though, not sure if it's the case here but it does look awesome!-HellFire
  8. Nice guide. I'm all for server side too, especially now with ajax you can make very advanced sites that don't even need to reload if it's setup properly - you then also have the advantage of the server doing all the processing so the client just gets the direct html code-HellFire
  9. Well it depends on the brand of card you are using for a driver update. Driver updates are VERY simple. Navigate to the ATI or NVIDIA site, depending on which card you have. Find the download driver link for nvidia forceware or ati catalyst drivers.Simply follow the instructions to download the file, then install it.If you are still getting issues it's the card itself that needs updating.Go out and buy a mid range card, best value for money i find. But before you do, you need to make sure your motherboard can run it. You need to know wheather your motherboard supports AGP or PCI-E for the video card connections. If it is on AGP, you seriously need to consider a full system upgrade. Every mid and high end card comes in PCI-E now. You will have little luck with AGP.Installing it is a simple as finding the slot on your motherboard, slotting the card in and screwing it to the case. When you boot up, navigate to the manufactures site and download the latest drivers for the new model.Hope it helps-HellFire
  10. For me it's XP or linux. I like tweaking all sorts of things and linux can do just that, although i've never used linux on a desktop pc. My only experience of linux are on remote servers.XP because of it's ease of use and game performance, easily beats vista. As i've said in nearly all of these vista/xp/other OS threads, i will only upgrade to vista when microsoft fix it.-HellFire
  11. I agree with the 'dont upgrade until a service pack' idea. Compatibility isn't great, performance suffers especially in games.I'll probably just wait until i upgrade my computer - in that time hopefully microsoft will have caught on a started releasing a few service packs to fix some issues.I think they should implement a gaming mode or something similar because the performance really does suffer. I know people that run it and are heavy gamers, they have top of the line video cards but still get performance of mid range cards in windows xp.They should bascially turn down the cpu priority of all services/other apps and decrease the memory usage for them, as well as hard disk activity. In effect 'slowing down' windows to speed up games.-HellFire
  12. I've heard that the failure rate is on the rise, it could probably get worse as it goes on if it is a manufacturing fault. But if the consoles work properly for a decent period of time then it looks like it is most likely related to something the user can fix. It's great work that MS has actually extended the warranty (But for a price i heard somewhere) and they know there could be a possible fault.-HellFire
  13. Heh they are just probably updating the looks again, i havn't seen any real big useful changes in past versions other than the looks.Would be nice to see what they can come up with to put in the new version, although they have pretty much crammed as much into it already for guys that just need to use it to communicate.Havn't seen any screenshots or documents yet, but from what i can guess it will only be interface changes more toward the vista feel.-HellFire
  14. Yeah just wait it out, probably maintenance or something.
  15. This could be caused by overheating, faulty hardware, new programs or dying power supply.Check foolakadugie's post just above to see how to deal with overheating. You should download a utility that monitors voltages and fan speeds etc (for example speedfan) and make sure everything is reporting ok. If you notice a voltage drop or something that pretty much points to your power supply. How long have you had the computer for? Did it just recently start happening? Did you install any new programs? If you are 100% sure that you didn't install any programs, your cooling system is fine and your psu is fine then something in your computer must have developed a fault. The best way to go about this is to send it in to a computer store so they can professionally test what needs replacing.Good luck-HellFire
  16. Yeah i remember i've been through many hosts to find the perfect one.Started off with something simple like freewebs, then found a great free hosting company though they closed down soon after, but i have the commitment to post here on Xisto for free hosting, which is by far the best free host out there in my opinion. It is really hard for guys that are trying to make their first site, and hosting is the place to begin. You might have a great site but where do you stick it. One of the problems first time site builders will always face.-HellFire
  17. First of all, cpanel isn't a site builder. It basically manages the 'backend' of your site. To get files on your hosting account you can either use cpanel's file manager or login with FTP access. So you are going to need the actual html or php files on your computer to upload to Xisto. If you've been using previous hosting that doesn't allow you to export the files you are going to have to rebuild your site. This is the default index.html file on your hosting account. To change it, login to cpanel's file manager or with FTP. Navigate to the public_html directory and find it there. You can upload your own file or just have a temporary blank placeholder for now. Second question i've answered above Not sure about this one, you're going to have to wait for an administrator to look over it Simply navigate to your site's (sub)domain. If you have the pages on your computer you can use web creation software to give you simple previews. The major thing in your situation is that Tripod basically has an easy way of creating sites without using external programs or coding. Xisto gives you the hosting, where you need the raw html/php files to upload to the hosting space. You can find plenty of decent HTML editors that can help you design your site even with very little knowledge of the HTML code. I'm not sure of any free ones but i can assure you there are some out there, google it or there are usually big lists of free software on wikipedia Hope it helps -HellFire
  18. I'm getting Error from server: -ERR Maildir invalid (no 'cur' directory). Did you change your password? errors again on email
  19. Yeah i agree too, we've just seen quad cores come out. But intel will probably take it's time to perfect this new cpu which is good. Later on when applications start to get more advanced with people discovering new features that are possible a high performing cpu is a really good choice.Considering they can get 1 teraflop with only a small ammount of power that is great, people wouldn't need to go and get massive power supplys just for their cpu.I think we could expect to see these in the next 1 or 2 years to come.-HellFire
  20. Very strange behaviour, i'd think it has a quarantine section that stores files it suspects suspicious. Or even stores files it terminates. That can lead to huge space loss. You might want to have a look in your spyware terminator directory and see exactly what file or folder is taking up the massive ammount of space. This can greatly help you determine how to fix the problem. In the case that you can't fix the problem there are plenty good anti spyware programs to chose from. You can try Spyware Doctor (http://www.pctools.com/norton-offer/pctEOL/) and AdAware (http://www.lavasoft.com/) -HellFire
  21. Yeah they resize the movie to a lower resolution so they don't take forever to load. They also limit movie length to 10 minutes (something like that) to stop people uploading full movies etc. If you need to upload longer movies you can become a 'director' which gives you that feature. To get the best quality movie uploaded to youtube you should make it with the highest resolution possible or match the resolution to the one youtube resizes it to. This will make the movie appear much more clear once it's published.-HellFire
  22. Yeah i am a fan of google, they provide nearly all the services you could want online all in one account. It's great for guys constantly swapping computers and also for people that need word processing software but don't have access to it. Google's apps are most of the time high quality, even the web based ones. You'd think how was that possible to do with web coding but google have put the time and effort into making high quality, free web apps for convenience. It's an awesome alternative to the usual software you normally use and is great when you need to access something that is at home (with some specific ways/services google offers)-HellFire
  23. Yeah i also recommend you try out opera. It doesn't waste space on useless features and basically crams in as much as it can to create an awesome browser that has a wide range of support for different sites as well as built in email, even irc. It doesn't use up too much memory so you can easily have it open running all the time. It is damn fast too, it's worth a try out.-HellFire
  24. Astahosts hosting quality is very good, can even beat some paid hosts. Only catch is if you have the time to post on a forum, though if you do forget and your credits run out your site just gets suspended not deleted.I probably won't change from Xisto unless my needs change. What Xisto offers is perfect for what i need and i can spare the time to make a few posts here and there. If you need more space/features than asta offers try Xisto - Web Hosting (Xisto's paid division)-HellFire
  25. I currently use the normal windows xp theme and it's fine for me. The speed is pretty good on this compute but i have a much slower one that is on xp, you really do notice the difference on slower computers.Custom themes on the other hand can perform very badly. Sometimes you find ones that are good looking and don't put too much strain on your computer, others just perform so badly that it can take ages just to right click. So overall.. Classic windows skin is the best for performance on slower machines, Default one isn't bad for today's machines and custom ones are a mixed bag.-HellFire
