Love the built in rss reader on opera. Don't even need to open another window to check stuff, it's all in the one program.Nice and lightweight but seems to do everything it should.I don't need an external reader with more powerful features because i only subscribe to the occasional rss feed here and there but i'm not a heavy user.-HellFire

Personally i prefer nvidia over ati, if your desperate for one now get an 8800gtx or gts depending on your performance tastes. Just remember though, the new 9 series (yes 9 series) is comming out in november this year which is ~2 months away. First card to come out is the 9800gtx that will retail around the mid/high end range in your country. It has full support for DX10.1 and even more power than the 8800gtx, i'd rather wait 2 months for a card that will last quite a few years rather than get one now that won't last as long. Also, for power supply you'd probably be better off going for a 650-700W PSU. The one i have lined up is the 750W Thermaltake toughpower that will provide more than enough power for my high end gaming pc plus lots of room for upgrade.Get brand name power supplies, they are more efficient and personally i don't trust generic brand power supplies with high end components. Depending on your CPU as well, you might only need a PSU between 500-550W if it has a high efficiency rating.Hope it helps-HellFire

I Need A More Advanced Screenshot Piece Of Software
HellFire121 replied to dserban's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I currently use snagit from techsmith i think it is. It's a pretty good screenshot program that can also be used to take video and also scrolling web pages. It comes with a nice screenshot editor that has plenty of functions for putting finishing touches on your shots. It also works in directx games and you can capture any region of the screen, you can even convert text in images to editable text.Works wondersForgot the link though, just search google for 'snagit'-HellFire -
Nice summaries there, it's amazing at how many languages there are and most can acomplish the same things in a different way, more or less efficient. Choosing a language can simply be seeing what you want to do, what you already know and what seems the easiest. There is so much to choose from and i find most are based more or less around a general concept.-HellFire

My Summary Of Vista Bugs User summary
HellFire121 replied to Ronel's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yeah i think there are way too many bugs in it, i know a friend that has vista and it is pretty buggy. It looks nice but the functionality lets it down.As i've said plenty of times before my intentions of upgrading to vista is that i won't do it until they squish most of the bugs out of it. At least when they fix the compatibility and 3d rendering performance issues.-HellFire -
Leaked: Vista Sp1 Analysed In-depth
HellFire121 replied to dserban's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Hopefully it fixes most of the compatibility issues that are from a hardware cause and performance issues related to directx and new generation graphics cards.Just from this early changelog of SP1, it still isn't enough to convince me to buy vista just yet. I'll probably wait untill SP2 or even SP3 depending on the way things go.-HellFire -
Live Concert Recordings On Usb Sticks
HellFire121 replied to dserban's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The amazing part about this is getting the stuff ready in such a short period of time, you can imagine that as technology goes on you'd eventually need to get new media to transfer files. Flash drives are pretty much what everyone is using now for any size of data. This stuff could probably be possible if they have something like a streaming video camera that streams straight into the server like computer, which rebuilds the movie on the fly and by the time it's finished - copying to loads of usb drives has already gone halfway. The only thing i see here is that the usb speeds might bottleneck the process a bit but it really depends what hardware is running on the system.-HellFire -
Invision Power Board Vs Vbulletin Board Vote And Explain Why Its Better
HellFire121 replied to Steven9088's topic in Software
All that bbcode is pretty much relative to any forum software, they usually work on all of them.I pick invision because i've been using their forums for quite a while and the layout and the general way things work seem much better than vbulletin. I also find that invision power serivces update their products more frequently meaning more features, more bug fixes, more stability and security. Easy modification and a vast selection of skins and mods, even the little stuff like the pips are fully customisable. All these little features add up, also another thing worth mentioning is that i absoultely dislike vbulletins administration system. Don't know if it's changed by now but the 2 frames doesn't really work too well. If you compare it with invision - it just doesn't match up.You also know you are getting the best products for your money, they care about their customers and that's how it should be.-HellFire -
Heh nice little puzzle game, couldn't be bothered going all the way up to the highest level but good job on those hints! Really came in handy. No real point of this imo but shows how much you really can think outside the square.-HellFire

Try a windows update or something like that. Also you can search around for registry cleaners that might also help fixing the problem.Only my suggestions as i don't have vista yet, still on xp here. There is a possibility it could be a driver error or something like that but i doubt it. Also it could be a corrupted file in the internet explorer directory.Hope it helps-HellFire

Registry is the main part here, i know of tools that can search for invalid registry uninstall information but can't remember the product as of this time.If you look in the registry, perform a search for the file/entry in effect and give it a small tweak. Make sure you backup your registry. There should be heaps and heaps of tutorials on this sort of stuff on google, but it's pretty straightforward. Just make sure you don't change things you don't know of.-HellFire

Could also be something related to a dynamic ip address, if the user before you has been spamming google searches or something along the lines of that - doubt it though.I've had this error once, turned out it was on googles side but it should disappear within a few minutes to a few hours. I'd say 5 hours maximum but that does seem a bit extreme.-HellFire

Nice tutorial, very clear on what to do. Should help a number of guys that are up for their first format or very rarely do it.Just make sure that all data is backed up properly, double check it. The number of people that have corrupted backups and cd's burnt onto faulty discs etc is amazing - check your stuff before you proceed with the format, or else you might lose everything.-HellFire

Choosing An Extremely Secure Password - Examples
HellFire121 replied to dserban's topic in Security issues & Exploits
A good thing to also do is include special characters in sites and services that allow it. Characters such as @#$% etc etc can be really good at providing that extra security which can be the difference between a weak password and a strong one.You can usually easily remember a password with a percentage in it, like add in 50% or something and it sticks in your head rather than some random string of text or numbers.-HellFire -
I've been using the portableapps suite for a while and it's great, it's very useful when you need to use a program but need that extra functionality, for example a photo editing suite. Just say the pc has paint installed on it and you need something like photoshop, just load in your usb drive and fire up gimp. Same thing for the internet explorer/firefox deal.I've been looking out for U3 drives too, can't wait to get my hands on one of them. You can do so much more with them and run a lot more programs right off them with full compatibility-HellFire

Pay for a chat game? No thanks. If it was free, maybe. But still i see no point in this 'game' if you could even call it, it's more like and is a chatroom. People that are interested in it might be able to milk a couple of months of playtime at max, the fun will wear off quickly though as there is nothing to do just chat - how boring.Really i see this as a scam, tricking younger people into paying for useless stuff in a chat room. Useless because there is no purpose of anything you buy, it is just appearence. So it's a big no thank you from me 1 out of 10 here-HellFire

A Screenshot Of The Most Spyware Infected Pc In The World
HellFire121 replied to dserban's topic in Software
Damn that is alot of spyware! Seriously though it looks like that pc has been used for testing only in an extreme controlled environment. Glad mine doesn't look like that hehe. You can just imagine all the lag and memory loss errors that that machine will have, imagine the startup of internet explorer, hell even the startup of the whole machine. If anyone's computer does look like this, it gives them a good indication of how badly their computer is comprimised. Data and private and personal information can be stolen by the second - even to the point they are basically 'stealing' your internet connection.Just some tips if a rare user comes across their desktop being somewhat similar to this - If there is simply too much simply put you're going to have to reformat. It should and will solve everything except data loss.Secondly if the spyware you have is managable, i recommend (even if you don't have spyware, it is good protection) antispyware applications such as adaware. Some antivirus suites include this protection by default but it's best to check.Lastly if you know you are infected limit your internet usage for personal and private things like banking and shopping online etcHope it helps anyone that needs it -HellFire -
Database Size? So how big is everybodys MySQL database?
HellFire121 replied to .:Brian:.'s topic in Programming
Mine are hovering around 50mb, nothing too intensive just the forum database and the site database for storing accounts and news posts, small size means easier to backup (I have a script running that emails me the backups). I always prune what i can to keep the size down for easier storage. Nearly every entry is text.In my experience though having massive databases doesn't affect performance too much, a friend i know has a forum database that has reached 1gb+ and the site still runs smooth. Could just be the server it's running on though.-HellFire -
Doesn't look to bad, might have a look into it though the stuff i'm really waiting for are call of duty 4 and the next battlefield - all set for them, but overlord might be a good time waster game as i see it - fun for a while but gets repetitive and boring later on as i find with all rts games but hey that's just me i prefer shooting things.-HellFire

Performance Impact Of Deinstalling Fonts?
HellFire121 replied to dserban's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Fonts usually don't impact too much on performance. Even if all of them were load on demand (starts when a program needs it) they probably won't take up too much memory anyways. Take this for example. If you have 500 fonts each averaging at about 100kb it would still only use 50mb of memory. Now for the average pc with 1gb of ram this is really not much of an issue, but then again no one will have a program open that needs all fonts avaliable all the time.I have heard stuff about having too many fonts installed slows down startup, personally i find this isn't true. It might've been true on older operating systems but for xp, in my case anyway it has little if no effect on performance or startup time.I can say that if you need the fonts go for it and install them, you will notice little difference under xp.What i usually do though is that i don't install fonts for the hell of it, for example i've downloaded a photoshop psd file and to edit it i need a font that the author has used. This is usually the only case i install fonts, i don't need the novalty ones that you can find everywhere.Hope it helps-HellFire -
We know that from this flash memory is what's comming next, this has proven it can handle large memory sizes but still. In my opinion anyone that wants large volume storage would be better off with a portable hard drive not a flash drive. Over the next few years you will probably see these large volume flash drives for what you pay now for 1gb flash drives. As someone said above technology is always advancing and prices dropping when new things come out.-HellFire

I only like these types of games in short ammounts of play time, they get boring very quickly. On each challenge or level you are basically doing the same thing and have the same goal. Plus there are other games that suit my gaming style more like shooters and mmorpgs. It's an alright game in conclusion it just gets boring fast. It's one of those games that i usually play when my internet is down.-HellFire

Folder Of Frontpage? Found A Folder
HellFire121 replied to Ozy1405241548's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It's safe to get rid of the folder, i've done it but then again i used to use it (use dreamweaver now). I think it would be related to office if you have it installed or the IIS package that might've been configured on your installation.Anyways you might want to check if there are any hidden stuff in there but it won't hurt to leave the folder there if you are unsure, it is doing nothing and most likely it wouldn't be a virus or other hacktool.Hope it helps-HellFire -
Free Antivirus-avast The best free antivirus
HellFire121 replied to Ozy1405241548's topic in Software
I've tried avast on a friends computer that needed new antivirus and i found it a bit slow and buggy, but that could've just been the pc (it was pretty old so that does say something). I do find AVG to have more power behind it, it can rival and in some cases beat the detection and removal of paid for antivirus programs. I've had one case where i've had norton and i sent a file to a friend. It appeared clean to me but on his side it came up as a virus so definately something you'd want to look into with AVG.-HellFire
