  1. The country of origin. However, there are certain laws that affect the user.I think it would be much better if you didn't bother. Unless the directory is aimed at open-source/royalty free music or otherwise agreeably free-share.Alternatively, make sure all links point to a site that requires payment for the song, instead of direct download.
  2. Talk about bumping a topic, it's over a year old!
  3. Live-recordings, b-sides, etc are still copyright. It's actually illegal to record music at concerts for purposes other than personal use. The same with recording movies in the cinema.Providing links to downloads is a grey area. Although you are not giving the pirated data directly, you are 'endorsing' it. I would be careful when going into this area.
  4. To be honest, I find VS Express a load of bollocks. Quite literally. The interface is too crowded and it takes forever to download and install (even on a large connection). The Express versions are free because they have limited features compared to their non-express counterparts (which cost quite a lot). They could have included support for VB6, but oh no.
  5. Tip: Make your title less ambiguous; it would be like asking does anyone like music. There is too much of a range. It depends on what the song's like, the same with any other genre other than chav, mc or pop (they shouldn't even be classed as music). Of the rappers, I've only come across one that I like, that is Eminem. 50 pence and his hommies have taken rap down the route of crap.
  6. @leafbunk - You've become tolerant towards the content, but what about the form? What are your opinions on the subject on a whole. Does it make you feel disgusted that people actually devise these games? Not what's in the game itself, but the concept of it. I'm glad this has so far been an intelligent topic, maybe there is hope for the professional host

    Asp Vs. Php

You don't have to pay for either of them.
  8. Good points guys.sparkx, perhaps the question we should now be asking is how do we decrease the violence in today's society. I have my own anwser, but I'd like to see what others have to say.

    Asp Vs. Php

PHP and ASP may be different languages, but their purpose is similar. They can both produce the same results, just in different ways. However, PHP is open-sourced and it's easier to make modules that leach onto it, unlike in ASP. If you had been doing it a year or two, then you should know that it is called Active Server Pages. You don't need IIS to run ASP. http://www.devx.com/tips/Tip/30771 Also, if you hadn't learnt PHP then you wouldn't be able to understand or apply it. The only thing you could do is reproduce the scripts, which could cause serious errors and security issues.
  10. You're one of those annoying web page developers, the ones that make their sites throw thousands of ads at you when you want to leave.Shame on you CaptainRon, shame :PWhy would you want to know where they are going anyway? You should be wanting to know how to keep them.
  11. If you're learning PHP, I would go to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ it's where I started off, and now I'm making my own software (not telling anyone what it is until I have done enough of it). I think you're best of learning more about XHTML and CSS and the standards before setting foot into PHP.

    Asp Vs. Php

ASP has the inlcude function, it's just done differently: <!--#include file="file.ext"-->I personally prefer PHP. I find it 'nicer' than ASP. Yes, I have tried ASP and it didn't go down so well. I'm currently learning VB6 at college, and it's a lot like PHP. The constructs/syntax is very similar. Obviously is slightly different, as in you have to have Then and the loops are a bit different. Other than that, I like them both. The file extension doesn't matter. The page will be parsed the same. I think you can use both ASP and PHP in the same file, but there is no point and setting up the server to do such a thing is a little tricky.
  13. I think you should firstly create a diagram of the hierarchy of the staff and their span of control. This way, you'll be able to monitor who exactly does what and where and who for. Not all staff members should have nowledge in the subject. I have no knowledge of Photoshop, but plenty of Fireworks. I can easily review a design that is done using Photoshop or even Paint. Relatively sound??? More like relatively vague idea. You're sugar coating it already. Be concise and straight to the point. Give bullets on which things are a must. Different skills within PS. Same as above, just worded differently. It's too ambiguous. If a member is slatering the staff member and has asked a very personal question which makes the member of staff uncomfortable, they shouldn't be expected to take it in a friendly way. They wouldn't become a staff member if they weren't. Remember, your selection process should take care of details like this. The rest of it goes the same, you need to think more of the actual terms that are required, not the details which come through the selection process.
  14. Interesting tutorial, however I would remove the comments from the actual code and use them as part of your post. You'll get more credits and you'll declutter your actual code. It will also be more readable.Comments should only be brief in your code scripts. Make them too long and they'll clutter your file and confuse the developer.
  15. Before I start, I want to make something clear. I do not believe that the following is an excuse for the increase in violent crimes and attitudes. I do believe that it is one of the fundamental factors, brought on by the irresponsibility of game creators. For at least the past 10 years, people have taken part in heated discussions over "does gaming make us more violent". That in itself is ambiguous. Gaming doesn't make us more violent. What it does is feed our imaginations. I have fallen into the trap before relasing the situation about gaming affecting behaviour, by saying "don't be stupid, people who blame gaming on behaviour are fools and don't know what they are talking about". However, that's probably because I was confused. If you have seen younger ones playing on games that are child-centered learning (e.g. Dora the Explorer games) you'll see a change in their behaviour, they will become happier and may even go a little hyper. It won't last for a long period (only a couple of hours max), but it is proof that gaming affects behaviour. So, if you change the genre and the child's age - make it graphical violence and a 16 year old. What's the result going to be? Well, not as clear cut as the first example. The child (16) won't necessarily start running around throwing knives at their best friends, or going into the street and start joy riding, but what it will do is fuel their imaginations - especially games that provide a storyline, even more so those that have an ending (because then the child can change the events in the storyline and resultantly change the ending). If they're prone to destructive behaviour, or even violence, then they're more likely to manifest their imaginative creations. I've seen it plenty of times with my mates, their families and even my own. A recent topic in What's New...? forum, the Montreal Gunman Angel of Death played on a game which mimic-ed the events of the Columbine Masacre (?sp). He ended up recreating that scene, although didn't accomplish it as well (in a negative way). Anyway, that is enough of my psycho-analysis-crap on the matter, what do you guys think? Questions Proposed Throughout Topic: Does gaming affect behaviour, or is it all just a fad to give people an excuse for the increasingly violent crimes? How much does gaming affect behaviour? How do we decrease the negative effects on behaviour?
  16. In my eyes, Pluto is a planet. It had several layers and a distinguished core. Yes it may have been frozen, but it was a planet in our system for long enough to be counted. I'd expect it to be reinstated sometime soon, this was just a basic rash decision to end the debate. Size should have nothing to do with planatory systems.@unimatrix - lol. It must be.Global warming is however affecting Britain, and quite badly. We're starting to get periodic tornado's ripping through parts of our country. London, Birmingham and some place in Wales have all been hit within the past two years. My mum has never heard anything like it. Last time we had a tornado was about 10-12 years ago.
  17. Poor guy was screwed up in the head, no wonder he went on a slaughter.Reading about him, I think he was severely depressed because of repressed anger. A lot of repressed anger. For his mind to cope with the tension of repressing such anger, he created an imaginative world, where he was the judge. In reality, he was an angry man, angry at society. What could he have been angry at? I suppose him feeling as though he wasn't really part of his society. The world in which he grew up in had changed, in his mind, it was against him. Or rather, the people in it were against him.Listening to heavy metal and general 'goth' music is a factor of his creation. If he had been listening to opera, he may have taken a much more dramatic form of action. Perhaps to the extent of calling himself fate. But because it was heavy metal, he created a religious image for himself, that of the angel of death. He dilluded himself, masking revenge with 'glory'.Unfortunately, things aren't going to get better. To be honest, with the chain of events that have happened in the past 10 years, I would say we're headed for a major event. What it could be, I don't have a clue. But what happens afterwards will shape our future. Everyone's future.
  18. Interesting, although I suppose it could be done with plain CSS though (and a dynamically generated link through PHP or other scripting language).
  19. That should clear it up. How you have the permissions to do such a thing I'll never know. At our college, we're very restricted to what we can and can't do.
  20. I really went off linux when I couldn't get my wireless dongle (for WAN) to work.As much as I hate it, I couldn't live without it. That would be Windows!I'm saving up for a Mac though.
  21. Trust M$ to be stupid.I think they would only target the large companies that endorse Linux, those that favour linux over M$.
  22. Our computing teacher was telling us about photonic space. Using photons to store 'light' data that can obviously be accessed at the speed of light. Obviously, we know what the good things would be from that!Any idea that appears will be superseeded before it can be completed, so really it's quite impossible to predict what will come next.
