IFRAMES are evil and they are useless on top of that for SEO.You don't need to use iframes or frames when you don't want to use tables.I suppose there would be a way in JS to KILL adverts from your site (as you can kill frames) but it would firstly violate TOS of the site. You get what you pay for remember (in the cases of MS, then you don't).

Jeigh, the admins suggest that members MOVE to Xisto to apply there because of the genre of posting. A domain name can be attached to any part of an account. That therefore means that you could have http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and set the domain to POINT at /folder/ You can have an unlimited amount of domains pointing to an folder. You could also assign a sub-domain to your own sub-domain. Example, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and point your domain to that. It will show in File Manager as mysite.astahost.com/subsite/ but will react differently (sort of) to normal /folder/.

Intrusion.Win.Messenger.exploit Keeps Attacking My PC
twitch replied to zacaroo's topic in Security issues & Exploits
You can't get rid of attacks, and it seems to be automated, so it will stop on it's own accord sometime. When, I don't know though. You are best downloading ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm. It has helped me in times like this and it should help you. I prefer not to have every part of my computers defense under one software developer, for example I have McAfee VirusScan, but I have a differen Spyware sweeper and firewall to McAfee products. As for your problem, it is directly linked to windows messenger (stating the obvious), so I would suggest installing MSN messenger. Windows Messenger is very nasty to remove, so it is best downloading the latest MSN 7.5.--mik -
Hey beefdip, you are a person of my own heart - interesting usernames.Anyway, I won't call you the n word, because it is ill retrospective of a person's ability and works against their reputation and credentials.--mik

Life After Death Thoughts on the forementioned subject.
twitch replied to Synn's topic in General Discussion
Firstly, I am not religious, so if I offend then I haven't meant to but don't flame me.In all honesty, I haven't thought about what lies after death. I know it is a natural thing to do, but one of the reasons is that I don't see the point in wallowing in what will be, rather than what is (projection is different to prediction). Therefore, I don't have any thought on what will become of us when we die. This much I can say though, we have many choices after life. Our concsience minds could go flying around this plaine of existence, or other ones, our bodies could astro-project to some heavenly (or hell) place that is of energy or any other scientifically viable thing. There must be a million and one things after life, and that is another reason why I choose not to look too much into life - because of the infinite possibilities.--mikP.S. 400th post -
I personally like PHPBB compared to the rest of the open-source/freeware BB systems. However, some will argue that SMF board is better. I suppose it just depends on what you are going to do.The reason I have PHPBB is because it's the one I am comfortable with. It may take some time to mod it (adding mods) and a lot of mods to make it competable with the likes of vBulleting or IPB, but the simplicity and features it comes with are more than enough for small communities. With that, I suggest that you project what type of community you will have. Will it be a small community, where there is only a few members on per day, then I suggest you go for SMF/PHPBB. If you're going to have a larger pool of members, then go for PHPBB (but mod it - or download PHPBB+ from phpbb2.de). And finally, if you are going to be having (projected) a large community with regular flows of members, then go for a very hardy forum software, like IPB or vBulletin. I have used both. I find IPB hard to customize when it comes to skinning, but then again I didn't keep my copy for long enough to understand it. vBulleting is like a rusty bucket. That doesn't mean it is crap. I find the whole concept of vBulletin more logical - Topics are known as Threads, pinned topics are known as Sticky Threads and so on. The ACP (admin control panel) is also a lot more basic and doesn't employ the whole features that IPB has.You would be best finding a comparison chart of the four major BBS; PHPBB, SMF, vB, IPB. vB and IPB cost money as they need a license, but if you pay the one-off perpetual license, then you'll be fine for life and you can use the license for any board set-up (only one at a time I think).I've never heard of discuz! board, so I can't comment on it.--mikP.S. They're moving the market upwards and agewards. They target teenagers, but still provide the younger ones with games like Nintendo Dogs or whatever it is called.Opera can go swing off a branch hanging from mount everest for all I care. You just can't beat simple - Nintendo SuperNes. I remember playing Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. Such a cool game. I might even set it up during the holidays actually.

It could be a hardware that is on your computer. When I had SP2 for my computer, there was an issue between my modem and the SP2 updated drivers and patches, this resulted in it automatically restarting. To over come this trouble I removed SP2 (format c:, reinstall everything and switch off automatic-updates).Also make sure that your virus-scan is up-to-date. The latest virus detected by McAfee continually restarts your machine.--mikP.S. Instead of having all of the up-to-date drivers and such, stick with the secure versions - as in previous stable releases.

Sweet. Anyway, only hosted members will be affected, and for some strange reason it affects us all at different rates.

Microsoft Leaks Vista Information
twitch replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I personally don't think it is down to stupidity, but rather a devious plan to increase the population investing in new PCs and buying new software that will run on Vista as well as buying the Operating system itself. The fact that Vista will be a modular O/S (as far as I am aware), it would make more sense for there to be several versions of it. For example, MS Office, is a modular package of softwares. You can get various ones, from Student and Teacher, Small Business, Enterprise, Standard and Professional. Each has it's own set of components, with Enterprise having them all. Modular software also allows updates to be created more specifically and reduces the risk of damaging other parts (unless they are shared). As for the removal of WMP. I am not surprised. The number of legal battles they've had, as well as buying out one company that attacked them, was phenomenal. I personally don't understand why the likes of Real media took MS to court, when us the end users couldn't see the surface the infringement. Jacking up the price for WMP included would be stupid. No offence to your idea, but they would not even bother changing the price. WMP can be downloaded for free, as it is a Windows component (you could say) so if they shoved onto the disk and pushed up the price, then people wouldn't buy it - therefore they would stand to loose out on money. The versions of Vista can be found here: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/88889-topic/?findpost=1064339152 -
The government deem it necessary to involve themselves when an issue can't be resolved publicly. Therefore, this leads to more deligation and extends the argument to the political side. In other words, yes they are inteferring, just to gain that extra bit of power.Abortion is a grey area. There is always times when abortion can be helpful or for the best.Dependant on the situation, abortion in my eyes can be wrong or right. For example, in the situation that the child will be born almost brain dead or will lead an impossibly difficulty life because of a syndrome, then it is better for the child not to be alive. This may seem cold-hearted, but would you want to go through your life fighting everyday things. However, in the instance that the parents don't want a child yet use no contraception (irrelevant of religion) then no, it is wrong for me.As for homosexuality, religion doesn't say it is a sin, nor does it say that gay marriage is not allowed. Different people interpretate the religious books in different ways, and why? Because religious books are mostly metaphoric teachings and records of past events.I have to agree with MC, religion is constantly forced down our throats. I think it is about time that humanity moved on from the constraints of past conditioning and seek out the true meaning of humanity and not be worried at what lies after-life.

You'll get the spawn of crap in every walk of life. And when such things come, you need to beat it down with a big stick.Immature behaviour in any forum should not be tolerated (even in teen's forums). To put someone on a hitlist just because they played the game and got bitten is pathetic. It might have been a good text-based game, but you could do without the troubles.Personally, I haven't come across such behaviour, but then again I don't take too much notice of asses.

Problems With CD Drive Pc reconizes DVDs but not Cds
twitch replied to blix1405241486's topic in Hardware Workshop
It is possible that when uninstalled Alcohol that took out the drivers for your drive as well. If you know of your drive vendor (like NEC/Samsung/etc) then go to their website and download the driver for it. If you have then install disk, then try that.Alternatively, go to Control Panel and add new hardware. See if it finds it then.As for it recognising DVDs but not CDs, that has baffled me a little. For registry cleaning, I prefer to use CCleaner. It does come bundled with other cleaning stuff, but the Issues button on the left is where you go for cleaning the registry. Finally, it could be that your registry has been corrupted. To find out how to fix the registry, I suggest you look through Google results on your problem. -
That looks kind of familiar. On sxc.hu (Stock Exchange Images), they have similar designs, not as simple, but they use the effects.I always wondered how they did it. Thanks a bunch.

I thought RED meant love...Anyway, I agree mostly with what yordan has said, especially the marketing aspect. But if this is going to be a personal page, then I suggest you go with a colour scheme THAT YOU LIKE. Sometimes, we need to put aside what others will think and go with our gut instincts. I know this may be hard for some, but it will eventually prove useful, unless you have no heart.I wouldn't go for a red/gold scheme, but as yordan pointed out, it's like sunglasses. As for no-real point in this topic, is there any point in any topic when it boils down to it? I think you were going over-board a little on that one.

I personally don't like packs. Firstly, because I like to get the software individually and load all of the custom options, and secondly because there is never a full package that works for me. If I were to release a pack it would contain: Google Earth Google Talk Picasa Mozilla Firefox McAfee VirusScan ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 Norton screws with your computer and Ad-Aware has always intefeared with our Outlook Express. But, seeing as though you can choose what is in the pack and what is not, then it's kind of cool. ***CHANGD TOPIC TITLE - IT WAS MIS-LEADING BEFORE***

Interesting. But could you explain to me the variables based on Credibility? I'm not trying to doubt you in any way, but I am rather curious as to what mechanics the indexing system holds in order to rank things through credibility. I suppose it could be based on the number of other resources that share similar content, but then wouldn't that lower the unique factor, which could work against your Page Rank and keyword search.

First of all, I am not a signature designer, so don't expect or ask me to make them. I have made this post entirely on the thought that once one person asks for a signature, others will, and there is nothing worse than sixty-million topics with Please Design me a Sig. In order for people to design you a signature, you must provide them with detailed information of what you would like. Main Signature Text (e.g. your username): Colour Scheme: Grunge Type: Animation: Characters/Objects: That was just general information, you may want to add more, but that are the basics of what is needed to design you a signature. ONLY MAKE REQUESTS IN THIS TOPIC. IF YOU WANT TO CONTACT THAT MEMBER, PM THEM. --mik

Actually, to put your minds at rest, there is a bug somewhere in the credits system which OpaQue is trying to hunt down. We too have noticed the problems. IF you do have a massive decline (2 or more) and you're posts haven't been changed or deleted, then keep a note of it and I am sure that your lost credits will be redeemed.
-
You need to change mypage.astahost.com to whatever the name of your mypage is. If you set the permissions correctly then it should work. However, you're best waiting for OpaQue to tell you.

Thanks Hercco for replying to this topic, helped me spot the excess of code. The code tags can only handle so much, then they will expand horizontally out of the main site. So as an alternative, use the [ codebox ] tags.Anyway, I think this is hardly the type of topic you should be replying to, it is two years old (well, in september it will be).

Not really. Many professionals say that it is a good starter software as it is user friendly. However, when I came to using it I didn't like the shabby-ness of what it looked like. By shabby-ness I mean the strange toolbars appearing when they want to and the ugly icons. This is just the surface of course, but it's whole layout looked like a very bad mimic of Photoshop.I have used Photoshop, but couldn't get to grips of making a new layer everytime I wanted to create something.Anyway, I suppose PSP has the ability to do the key bitmap (raster) features that Fireworks doesn't, but when it comes to it, I much prefer Fireworks and even Photoshop (when I have the patience for it).

If you remain ignorant of the underlining information, then eventually you will run into a brick wall (don't take it as offensive). There is software out there that will help you make your own games, but not in flash. Things like GameMaker are the equivalent of a WYSIWYG game maker. To make them in Flash, you will need Macromedia Flash, have knowledge of ActionScript and be able to create things in Flash. But don't worry, there are thousands of free tutorials out there. Just check on Google.

I'll leave it here whilst it's in the design stages, once you get to developing it, then further posts will be put into the Web Design forum. What I think is that you've over-done the graphics. If you think about it, when you export all of your sliced images and start developing it, the size is going to be humongous, which results in a slow load, and almost no-load for limited connections. So what I would propose is (for all of them): Where the main content is going, have a block of a single colour. Using various harmonious colours can be very eye-candy and helps load times, because it can be done straight through CSS. Of the colours you have so far, they are too dark. You might be into the whole dark theme, and I quite like it, but when you're trying to keep visitors coming to your site, you need to make it so that they can read things without getting eye-strain. This can be caused when light foregrounds are resting on darker backgrounds. In this case, light text on a dark and heavy background colour. You're probably best straying away from using one colour. From past experience, it hardly ever works and looks quite amateurish. However, out of the styles you have made, I would rather visit the blue one. Simply because I like blue --mik P.S. I think you should add a poll, with the links to the images in the poll (e.g. [ url=http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png ]The Gold Layout[ /url ] )
