  1. what extension do you have for your index?
  2. For a few months I have myself coming to Xisto less and less, and with me being a Mod and all, I thought it best to 'put it in writing'. The role of all moderators is to uphold forum integrety, but when I can't be here much nor have the motivation to do so I can fulfill the role of moderator. Hence, I have decided to leave Xisto for good, or at least I find a spark to come back.Thank you to all of you who have helped me develop my skills in all the areas I've ventured into. Without you guys, I probably wouldn't be at the stage I am.I also have to say thank you to people like Vujsa, Jeigh and Pyost for the fun in the Shoutbox. I've often come to Xisto and read the sarcastic or blatently funny shouts (before the shoutbox was degraded).I was going to apologise for leaving, but I feel there is no need, as I may return one day .However, although I am leaving Xisto, I will still be co-working on AntiLost, and you will be able to find me there spariodically.--mikP.S. m^e, if I don't speak to you before this post, please delete my Hosting Account. Process isn't working and I can't remember how to delete my forum user account lol.
  3. See, our schools are crap. The closest we get to programming is using a standard calculator to make math lol. However, this said I started programming only a couple of months ago. I started out with C, didn't like it and have moved onto C++. I'm also taking up VB for college. I'm comfortable with the scripting language Javascript, markup langauge HTML, styling CSS and currently I am learning PHP. I've also tried ASP and I fairly comfortable with it (I can 'parse' it and understand but when it comes to making applications I get so far and stick). So really I am learning three languages at once - PHP, C++ and VB.Pretty bad, I know, blame it on the education system in the UK and the extremely periodic change of our scheme of work.
  4. Through your FTP client. It should tell you the total size in bytes (or KB if it is automatic). I recommend FileZilla.
  5. I use and love FileZilla. The only problem I have is that I have tried all installation routines and it still doesn't save my preferences.
  6. Lack of fresh water? Sorry but that is a load of bull. Fresh water can be easily 'made' from any type of water.Water isn't the only place where hydrogen can be found. It occurs in many places, and an abundance of it is in space.'Water cars' have been advertised for well over two years and the concept is extremely old (decades). The problem we really face, which most scientists won't talk about, is the corruption of governments. Oil based products bring in billions of USD to hundreds of countries. Especially in petrol prices. Now, if the government change it to hydrogen based, their profits would hit the floor. No more economic booms based on oil prices.Until the governments of the world get their fingers out of their asses, we're stuck in this hell whole. The human race is set to implode, and only we can stop it.
  7. Firstly, RAP is not a genre of music. It is a style of presenting the words. R&B (rhythm and blues) is what you are complaining about. If you took the time to listen to R&B properly, then you would find that it operates on a level similar to Rock, Punk and Metal. Most songs do, with the exception of upper beats (dance, pop, etc).Personally, the only music I detest to such a degree is Niche and MC, the crap that a lot of chavs listen to. The terms Niche and MC relate to dance music to which the words have been gerbalised (speeded up to a tempo that is migraine inducing). MC includes bigging up the DJ (if that's what you call the scrat-head) and usually starts with some person making a beat with his/her mouth.I do prefer the genre of Metal and Heavy Metal; black sabbath, metallica, korn, iron maiden, etc. Death Metal, such as Cradle of Filth, Misfits, is hard to listen to at first but the content is quite powerful.I also like some classical, rock, r&b, dance and even pop songs. To limit yourself to one genre would be extremely stupid of you. To appreciate other styles makes you better than the next Joe Bloggs and will help you be recognised.
  8. X-Men are first and foremost characters based on science-fiction (at this moment in time). That means they have science origins, but their current status is deemed fictional, as they can’t exist at this moment in time. X-Men are naturally occurring mutations of the human species. Their existence is down to the NATURAL change or mutation of one of their genes. This gene is then spread through sexual reproduction, but it’s existence among people will be limited because the fact it is spread via sexual reproduction. As we find out in both the comics and movies, there are people with the recessive and dominant genes. But as a resulting factor of sexual reproduction, the chances of being affected by the mutant gene stand at Âź (or ½ if both parents carry). The science behind this involves enzymes. These aren’t always exacting and could mean subsequent side-effects. Remember, no two living things have the exact genetic make-up as they produce specialised genes throughout their life to cope with the environment. In this state of genetic manipulation, we are in a sense mutating the animal. So any genetic experiments on any carbon-based organism means that they are in affect X-Men (or X-Cows). Just because they can’t psychokinetically move books across the room doesn’t mean they aren’t mutants. The next step in genetics is unpredictable. Any experiment done, especially under genetics, is very immeasurable, as there are an extremely large amount of physical, natural and chaotic factors that we can’t control. However, at a basic level we could say the next step is biomechanical evolution through the use of manipulating genes to produce carbon-based items that resemble ‘bionic’ instruments. For example, a semi robotic-living arm could be produced. However, this is a large step that we are not quite near. Today’s society is evolving, but at a slow rate. People are becoming more and more tolerant of ideas and others. However, something as large as genetic experiments on humans is still a taboo. It will take decades before people are ready to accept the benefits of genetic manipulation, because our minds are not suited to this way of thinking yet. Evolution doesn’t mean improvement. The purpose of evolution is to adapt to the current environment. To better the human species would be to open up our minds to every conscious and subconscious levels of thinking. Only then would we be any better than we are. Remember, we can easily keep our health, but we need to be more open-minded (on a higher level than acceptance of issues like sexuality). DNA sequencing of the human genome and manipulation of it wouldn’t always mean improvement, and in a lot of cases would mean that the person could become handicapped. For example, one person’s genome that has the lazy eye problem, if this were to be ‘cured’, who’s to say that it being cured wouldn’t trigger another problem. Our diverse genome exists as it is because we are alive. If it weren’t for its diversification we wouldn’t be here. Saying will we ever have abilities like the X-Men is a stupid question. I’m not saying this because the answer is obviously ‘no’, because it isn’t obviously ‘no’. It is not obviously ‘yes’. At some point during our research into genetic constructs, we will find that genes can be manipulated to a point at which they can build together to give us the ability of doing ‘abnormal’ things. However, it is only considered abnormal because it doesn’t occur now. One day, we could find that we have psychokinetic or telepathic abilities on a conscious level. Our minds are not fixed to a physical level of existence, and although the evidence is questionable, how many times can you question something without it becoming something that you begin to believe in. This may be at the current level of knowledge, but technically speaking more experiments have been done on sheep and tomatoes for scientists to know what happens and where. Something is only as complicated as our minds allow it to be. I have to agree, we are too immature in both science and current levels of society to be able to do such things. Again, I agree. People who are naturally handicapped are the way they are because of mutation. Mutations of genes aren’t always helpful for the physical. However, from close experience, people who are handicapped often have a better appreciation of life and themselves. Whilst society may see them as being handicapped, many people find themselves to be better off. My niece has Cornelia DeLange Syndrome (CdLS) and she is only 18 months old. However, behind her eyes you can see so much intelligence. The problem sufferers have with CdLS is communication. Many of them don’t know how to speak. So whilst one part of our brain may evolve, it often leads to the relaxing of other parts or parts. This so is the case with extreme Autism. M^e, whilst it may not seem at all possible at this current stage or foreseeable, it is not impossible that we will one day be able to make fire out of thin air. If some how, we can control the patterns of particles and speeds, then who knows, perhaps we might be able to transform parts of ourselves into steel blades or something made out of carbon. Scientists are looking towards stopping ‘cancer’. For those who aren’t clued up on cancer, then it is pretty simple. Cancer isn’t a disease or syndrome. It is a natural effect that is linked very closely to our constant system of living. As you probably know, our cells constantly divide to sustain us. However, cancer occurs when the tissue cells are made to divide at extreme rates. So much so, that the new cells are too much that the old cells begin to decay before they are ready. Some bacteria have enzymes that replace the gene that controls cell division with one that makes it divide at the speed of the bacteria. This is why some STDs (e.g. genital warts) can lead to cancer, especially in women with cancer such as ovarian. Hopefully by genetic manipulation we can provide a gene that controls cell division but isn’t affected by subsequent measures. This is an example of when genetic manipulation is used for the wrong purposes. They are better producing it via controlled bacteria in huge tanks, not in the paddy fields where it risks infecting the whole industry. True, the story is based on acceptance of people that are different to the conditionals of society. I think the introduction of these comics helped spring on what we have today. It has taken some time, but we are getting there. Whilst I am not saying Natural Selection isn’t an exact method of science, I am saying it is still a theory. Whilst many scientist may believe in it, there is still the possibility that evolution or change occurs because of other factors. Take Chaos Theory, which can be applied to almost every situation throughout a point or more in 4D. We may evolve because some dinosaur had the first idea, or even the second idea. Evolution doesn’t just involve physical mutation, it involves the mind. Throughout, I may have seem to have an elitist view, but I don’t. I do not claim nor have an open-mind. I just know that we need to evolve and realise that we can, not just by acceptance, but by continuing as we do in life; challenging ideas, improving, changing and developing our knowledge.
  9. Microsoft is a company that requires profit as a way to survive. Producing a new software doesn't always provide this, and neither does selling hardware. So, to go one step further, they produce things that people use everyday. But why? Because a lot of companies have realised that by producing something that is used everyday, more people are likely to use it, especially if it is cheaper, better and more secure than it's pre-decessors.The WMP format will more than likely be a growing image format and will more than likely soon take over the spotlight of JPEG2000 and it's entire features (although the WMP format is a while away from that). As for support of this format, you can tell that it will take some time for Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc to be able to support it.If you think that this image file type will be exclusive to some kind of MS imaging software, then think like MS. Do we want to make it exclusive at the risk of shooting ourselves in the foot?PNG support will be improved for IE7. It's lack of support in earlier versions is easily fixed (but not recommended) by using Javascript to fix the Alpha channel (transparency).Microsoft however have not thought of the implications of the WMP image file type on other platforms. It will take some serious negotiations between Linux distros and other O/S with Microsoft to get the file type cross-platform friendly.Depending on it's strength and quality, I may find myself using WMP for desktop publishing, however for the web I will stick to GIF, JPG or no images.
  10. Next time you make a post like this, at least add your own content instead of just "Author: Pranay".
  11. I don't know if anyone has replied to the 'shortening of Hex values' yet, but there is an easy way.For values that are first place repetitive (e.g. #ffffff), then simply put the first 3 values (#fff). If you miss a value from the 6 figure, then it will automatically be given 0.
  12. Fellow designers, developers and table makers. This is a short explanation and tutorial on problem-child Internet Explorer's urge to fill empty div or table tags with a non-breakable space (html char code ). Why does IE put NBSP into empty div/table tags? Here comes a really professional answer. I don't know why. Surely it takes that bit longer to put a conditional statement that if there is an empty tag, fill it with somet. Surely, it would be easier to say don't fill. But then again, MS never do things by half. The Work Around There may be a Javascript or even more simpler way than doing it this way, but so far I have not come across it. The only way to stop IE from rendering the div or table to the height of the text in which it contains (if it is empty, MS puts in a non-breakable space, therefore renders at the size of the body text) is to create a 1px*1px GIF with an index transparency of white and the background of white. This makes it a clear square. It is still classed as an object, so by putting <img src="images/clear.gif" alt="" height="1px" width="1px" /> it renders whatever div/table cell at whatever height you specify (below the body text size). If you don't want that div or table/cell to be rendered, then it is even easier, use CSS and set whatever element it is to display: none;
  13. I think as part of the IPB skin design contest, the group icons should be part in parcel with it.
  14. Either way Ganesh, it is still illegal and immoral. Unless IPS suddenly state that IPB is OpenSource and free (under GPL) then I think they should be given the money they deserve for creating such software. Can you imagine working at Google and being told, sorry we're using a nullified/craked version of this company, so we are so sorry, but you're not getting any money.I was being half joking/half serious. People who use cracked/illegal versions of web-software within the hosting service of Xisto should be made either to remove their software or find hosting elsewhere. Some people give the host a bad name, just because the domain where it is found contains something bad.
  15. Actually Ganesh, there must be some way that IPB find cracked versions, because I have come across such an instance when a member was contacted by IPS demanding they pay for a license or remove the board. So bollocks to that theory of yours.Every company is really bothered about their losses in profit. If they weren't, they wouldn't be a company for long. dolt.OpaQue is the owner/founder/admin of XISTO (or so I believe), therefore the owner of Xisto - Web Hosting/Xisto.net/Xisto.com/AstahostAnd as for the Cracked version of IPB, I gather you got IPB, found a cracking tutorial, cracked it, then installed it???Anyway, whatever the outcome may be, anyone using CRACKED or OTHER-WISE ILLEGAL USAGE of web-software, e.g. IPB, I think should be banned PERMANENTLY.
  16. If you replied to an automated e-mail your ISP sent you when you registered, you'll never get an answer. There can't be any news on this matter unless you tell us. And I suggest you try contacting your ISP by other means e.g. telephone. P.S. Doesn't Sapo.Pt look familiar? http://yahoo.com/
  17. The company you registered the domain ultraside.com with should have instructions on how to point that domain to NS1.astahost.com/NS2.astahost.com. If it doesn't, and if there isn't any control panel given to do so, then I suggest you send them an e-mail or contact them by any other method. As for having webmaster@ultraside.com, it is an e-mail domain. You can only have this if your domain host gives you the ability to (which they should).
  18. Hey guys (and gals)I've decided to start my own entry for this.Yesterday, I was hunting for the logo, stupid me never thought to take the vector logo from the flash animation on the home page of asta. So for those who want it for their own developments, below is a very accurate cut-out of what the original logo was.And below is my (partially completed) preview of what my skin is going to look like.
  19. Just in this world? OR everywhere? Black-holes spaghetify or bend light. How can the photons be bent if they are traveling at a constant speed? The inward speed of light must be faster than the outward speed of light, otherwise it wouldn't bend. To be truly honest, this may go against most people's beliefs and foundations, but I don't agree with what Einstein says. Well, not all of it anyway. I just don't understand how one person could rattle off so much 'insight' into the mechanics of the universe. His famous e=mc(2) was found to be missing one key component. Whether it was + or - (e=+mc(2) or e=-mc(2) ). By algebraic default, the equation should read e=+mc(2) where in fact, for mass (electrons) it should be e=-mc(2).
  20. I reiterate, how can you be so stupid? The fact that ASTAHOST is the name of the site does convey something about this place being about HOSTING.
  21. Note: You must put content into your posts. Otherwise, it will be classed as spam. At least give us some design choice detail in your post. Anyway, if this is a header image for a site, then I truly hope you reconsider. A header, whether it be text and a graphic, text or graphic needs to blend into the site, but still make itself seen. I wouldn't take one look at your header, why? you may ask. Well, the answer is very simple. The purpose of the header is to display heading information. Therefore, on a website, a header is best used as a clean design element with a taste of what your site is about. You've got the second part of this purpose, but not the clean part. Your graphic looks more like a signature graphic than a header (or banner). The text fades into the graphic too much. The text should stand out, but be subtle with the design at the same time. This is quite a hard technique to muster, but becomes very useful. I suggest using White as the colour, and slowly reduce the alpha transparency until it stands out, but still blends in. However, if I have this all wrong and it is actually a signature, then please make sure you edit 'banner' for 'signature' and I or another mod will put it into it's rightful place (I would say the trash can, but I am not being personal).
  22. I'm not too sure, but I think http://forums.xisto.com/index.php offers free web hosting without banner-ads, just for making active quality contributions to the forums. However, I'm not too sure if it really exists. NEXT TIME YOU FEEL THE URGE TO POST SOMETHING STUPID IN AN OBVIOUS PLACE. DON'T BOTHER.
  23. They are not stone-hearted people at all and I suggest you take cover before one of them gets you.Admin, I think if he/she were allowed to have an account here and at Xisto.net (sans posting) then it would help him/her out on this situation.
