Ok, I don't know where my previous post went to, but if it's been removed by an admin, plz don't shoot me . Ok, I've installed geeklog and gallery. I"ve changed the gallery configuration, but left the ImageMagick (/usr/bin) path as defautl, I only deleted the rar path because that caused errors. When I want to upload an image I get this error: --- Debug messages: mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/bin/.libs': Permission denied /usr/bin/convert: line 1: /usr/bin/gcc: Permission denied Status: 1 (expected 0) Error: Unable to make thumbnail (0) --- And the gallery faq has 2 options. OR The second one outputs "system" (overhere) Anyone who could help me ??? P.s. The full output from the upload form: hmm, can't find the edit button Maybe somebody who can provide me the path to NetPBM ??? Maybe that one works... woow, never tought it was this easy . Sorry for making this topic . For those who have the same problem, try using NetBPM, you can download the precompiled package on the gallery download page (I used the linux-intel version). Just upload it, CHMOD the folder and files to 775 or 777 if you get an error and point the gallery to it eg: /home/username/public_html/afolder/maybeanotheron/netPBM and don't forget to select netBPM

1. CPUCool does make your cpu run cooler when it's idle, but I tought it was more a feature for AthlonXP/Duron CPUs. If you want to monitor temperatures, I'd suggest you to use something like Speedfan, Hardware Monitor or MBM5 (wich isn't being developed anymore). 2. http://www.cpufsb.de/ https://www.4psa.com/error_pages/not_found.html (this page is a bit outdated tough, 2002 ) You might also think about overclocking your graka: http://www.guru3d.com/content-page/rivatuner.html 3.done

DBpoweramp can, just check out the Codec Central (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm) under popular codecs. It can Decode and Encode it.

Ok, since my application has been accepted, I now like to move my site from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. My site runs geeklog so I do need the database. I've tried everything, make a back-up using geeklog and uploading it using cpanel, exporting it using phpMyAdmin 2.5.3-rc1 (on superihost, which works terribly slow) with all kind of setting and uploading it using cpanel, but the only thing it creates is an empty database What am I doing wrong ??? (xcept selecting wutske_geeklog) This is the export page, what do I have to change ???

optykal, do you have too much money ??? Dual Core, (prolly soon) SLI 7800GTX, damn, makes me feel little when I take a look at my pc PC1 (daily use):Abit NF7-s V2.0AXP 2500+@3200+2x256Mb DDR400 (M-tec50B @ 2.0-2-3-11)Sapphire R9600PRO @474/324)WD 120Gb SATA350Wpsu, aerogateII, DVD-rw, DVD, fdd, Thermalright SLK947U, that's it i guess.Ozaki HM30 Q3 5.1 surround17" screen (something my dad go, it's a bit damaged from falling: chipped a peace out of the glass and the case is scratched serverly).15" Digital (=compaq=hp) screen (sometimes I run dual monitor)PC2 (currently running Linux):Shuttle AV18 v1.0PIII 733Matrox Millenium (G200 ?, not shure, but I use the Millenium driver)old (near dead btw) Seagate 3.4Gb hdd (it needed a little heatsink + fan on a 85°c chip to run stable).32x cd250w psuPC3 (just standing here under my desk).I have no idea, but I guess it's and AMD K6-250x cdfdderm, that all I know15" Tulip screen

If your cpu realy runs at 80°c when loaded, I guess you should check the CPU cooler, because that's not a normal temp for an old P4. That might also be the same reason why you're having the other problems, because P4's throttle (slow down) when they get to hot, this might cause windows to hang for a while.

He want's to flash his BIOS because he'd like to overclock his cpu and memory.

Apple's Multi-button Mouse ... Finally !
wutske replied to cyph3r's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Djeezes, I wouldn't work with that even if they would pay me for it. I have it that I don't get a button response on a mouse, and the squezing is just bizar.Long live the 3 buttoned optical logitech mouse I now use for 2 years or so. -
you're pretty screwed with that motherboard. It's an ECS L4S5MG3, and the only Elitegroup mobo I know that could overclock good is the K7S5A(l). Now, I guess this is the BIOS you'll need: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . (wait till more people agree). Now, about messing with the BIOS. Upgrading (=flashing) is more dangerous than just messing around with some setting. When you flash the wrong BIOS, or when flashing fails (error, power down while flashig), you're motherboard is dead. The only thing you can do then is finding a motherboard with the same sort of BIOSchip and hotflash yours with it. //edit; have you rebooted after installing cpucool ??? Ow, and try CPUfsb, much better for oc'ing, because CPUCool won't remember anything when you close it.

1. No, that's not true. Intels run a lot warmer then AMD's. AMD's create about 80-90w heat while Intels even go over 100w (!) of heat (top= 113w). And about rebooting, check tomshardwareguide, the AMD system ran flawlessly while the Intel kept generating problems. Both are stable enough to run almost 24/7. 2. Windows works with 32 bit adressing, this limits the memory it can work with to 4gb. 64bit allow a few terrabytes of memory (even more, petabytes). You'll need a 64bit OS (some linux versions or WinXP64). 3. Google //edit, here are the links for the stress tests. Very fast boot (regedit):Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParametersAnd change the DWORD "EnablePrefetcher" to 5Save memory by unload unused DLL's (regedit):Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \Explorer\AlwaysUnloadDLL or make the key "AlwaysUnloadDLL" (!!! Case sensitive).Change the valeu "default" to 1 .Optimize Second Level Data cach (regedit)Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory ManagementOpen te "SecondLevelDataCache" DWORD, choose 'decimaal' (dunno what it's supposed to be in the english version, just don't choose hexadec.).Now you can fill in the amount of L2 cache your CPU has (you can chech this w/ CPU-z, WCPUid, ...).But, be aware, if you set a too large amount, you can screw your windows, don't tell me I didn't warn you.Disable Indexing (explorer)Right click on a drive (c: by example), go to properties and untick the option "index this drive ..." on the bottom. This will prevent windows from indexing all files on you computer so you could search faster, but most people probably use the search so less that it's useless. (ow, and ignore errors when it complains).Remove unused fonts (control panel)Just remove them, they use space and resources.

It's actualy verry simpel. A Pentium D are 2 Pentium 4 Prescotts on a single die, only difference is that only the P-D EE has hyperthreading enabled. But, you have to know that these chips consume a lot of energy and also radiate a lot of waste energy.

Need Help With Sound Card Installation Problems
wutske replied to Scribe's topic in Hardware Workshop
Not shure whether this might help, but did you already disabled the onboard sound card ?And doesn't the device manager report problems after reboot ? -
Google Desktop Search Yes, another google tool
wutske replied to kevlar557's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've tried it once, but I removed it a few days later because something on my computer caused it to loose it's index file, so it had to re-index everytime I rebooted . And I hardly search a thing on my computer, I just know where my files are, because I use my own system, organized chaos -
First thing to do is to find out wich motherboard you have (brand + type), that's realy important because you just can't flash any BIOS you find. Then you'll have too look for a newer BIOS that allows overclocking. Now, if you have a brand pc (packard bell, hp, ...) then you probably won't find a good BIOS. There is also a program called CPUFSB wich allows you to overclock your computer by accessing the clock directly. You can alter FSB and RAM (at the same time tough) but no voltages or anything else. Here is the link: http://www.cpufsb.de/

I have a lot linux distro's, but I don't realy use them since it's a pain in the **** to install the ATI drivers.I do have it on an older computer tough, Mandriva I guess, it's a while ago since I've used it because I've forgotten my password . Ow, I also have Suse 9.2, Red Hat 9, Fedora C3 and Mandriva 10.x installed on virtual machines .I don't linke Fedora Core3, sorry, I just don't like it. Mandriva is pretty ok, same for Suse. Red Hat is, errm, not for me . Dunno why, I just don't like it either.

Astahost's New Look... The forums new look...

Honestly, how hard M$ even tries to make a reliable browser that is fast and secure, they just can't. Sorry for (the few ?) IE fans here, but as long as it's a target for hackers it won't be secure. The phishing chech is a good start tough, but I guess it won't take long before someone managed to let it crash, plus it can gave a false feeling of safety. There are still a few thing M$ should do:1) rendering correctly, not rendering wrong code like it's correct2) unlink it from windows, it's too integrated to be safe (to close to the system). FF is less integrated and can cause less problems.3) get a new cookiesystem, realy, some that website can't access that easily.

I know this is an old topic, but I realy, realy recognize myself in Shogi's story. It's almost the same, I have practicaly no friends (ok, maybe those from my flagswingingteam, but they are 30-50 years and I'm 17 (I'm the youngest flagswinger and the others from the group where I flagswing is the same age and the youngsters are all female and between 6-13 years ).I do have another friend, but I found out that he has blocked me from new friends during the past 4,5 years (and yes, I do know it's also my own fault), even worse, I feel like he has been lying during those 4,5 years and we're starting to grow away from each other. At school I do feel like a leech too. There's this group I always get to, but I don't realy feel that they accept me, I just stand there, I can't actualy say a lot because they talk about things they did toghether and understand and 9/10 I haven't done anything interesting to tell.I'm not realy a happy person, but also not depressed. During those years I evolved in a 'I-don't-realy-care' type. I realy supress my feelings, even getting angry, then I realy want to start bashing on things, but I've already learnt that I can destroy things when I do that (broken my keyboard already on 2 places ) so I just get angry, pump a lot of blood to my head, count to ten and get on trying to fix what was wrong.I don't realy feel ugly, but I don't feel atractive. I'm a bit a skinny person and realy, I can eat, eat, but I hardly gain weigth (it's cool, candy all day). Other thing, I have fat lips, and I realy don't like them. I already learned to live with my Dracula tooth, but the downside is that I hardly smile (except on fora ).To keep it short from now: too much computers, too shy, no friends, bad sport condition (should start training something, but I'm too lazy), forgetfull (and not a little bit, I can forget thing that were said 5 sec. ago ) and a lack of initiative . Guess that was all of my perfetic live (no, it's even more, but I'm not going to bother you guys and gals with that, because it's already boring enough too read this) <- guess this is another problem that is starting to growgrtz, /meP.s.: I'm realy glad with all the reply's so far. Only one thing left to say. Did 2 schools with no friends, one year to go and I'm going to another school (and I don't even know yet what I'm going to study), a new start for me, a new chance to get new friends.

Secret Behind Your Nick/User Names Where did they come from?
wutske replied to szupie's topic in Introductions
I have many names, but lately I've been using wutske the most. That wasn't too hard to find, my last name is Wuyts (I'm from Belgium, so don't try to pronounce it in English, is sounds dull). At school most people just call me Wuts (but pronounce the u as a flat e (dunno, I know in french it's a "e muet"). I simply added -ke (means little) to make it sound more 'light'.Other names are hardfreak (time I'd like to forget, I was a über computer nerd and it means 'hardware freak'), Psycho1 (saw it on the net, psycho was a popular name so I added a '1') and I even have an e-mail adres wich is called letskillbinladen007 (@ school during the lessons informatics (little bit like ICT, but for beginners) we needed to find a nickname for our new e-mail. I realy wanted a nickname, not just my name, and since I didn't wanted Psycho1 and 9/11 was still fresh, I use letskillbinladen and added the 007 because it was already used. Never used it again because I always mistype it ).That's it I guess -
I use filezilla too, it's free and works fast and good.
-
I prefer DBPowerAMP. It works great and you can use a ton of codecs (downloads are free). Too bad the lame codec only works for a limited time, but the lame command line codec is free and not too difficult to use. Lame command line refference (you won't need most of these options)

Building A Computer Tutorial to building a computer.
wutske replied to [i]_R_Crazy_Idiot's topic in Hardware Workshop
So I guess the other parts fill follow soon.Btw. a case isn't a basic part either, because a computer will run w/o case too (like mine ).
