  1. I messed around with Frontpage years ago untill I discoverd the code created by FP was total crap, I then quickly switched to Dreamweaver MX. However, I found myself changing the code more often than using the WYSIWYG interface so I switched to Notepad++. I something design websites (using html, css, php and javascript) when I have some spare time, but those moments are rather rare so my knowledge is a bit limited but that doesn't stop me from designing table-less designs that are full compliant with the standards. About 2 years ago I made a Joomla 1.0 template with a few friends and since then I've created a few more designs (or helped a bit with ). I'm now working on a simple Joomla 1.5 template and a e107 template and maybe I get to work on a Drupal website too. I've also had a personal website in Geeklog, but that's a long time ago
  2. Windows 7 is build around a completely new, lightweight kernel (at least that's what microsoft wants us to believe ). Windows 7 is very stable for a first beta release, even the x64 bit version is very reliable at the moment, so I doubt that the final release of Windows7 is going to be bad.
  3. I finaly installed Seven x64 on my laptop instead of running it inside Virtualbox (which was quite stable, but a bit on the slow side) and I'm definately not going to use Vista anymore. Seven is just a lot faster and more responsive as it's older brother and I believe it'll be as stable as hell when it's finaly released because this 64-bit beta OS is almost as stable as Vista .There are however still a few bugs that have to be fixed. The widgets for example stopped working without any reason and no way to get them working, DPMS doesn't work correctly on my laptop (screen doesn't turn on after standby for example), UAC still doesn't manage to get to the foreground but still blocks all input , etc ...The only real downside is it's footprint, it uses almost 1Gb of memory at the moment (and the only big apps that are running are Opera, WLM and AVG) while openSuse doesn't even need half of that ! (and yes, I do need the other 1Gb of memory for virtualisation which is not possible in Seven)
  4. Very nice collection of sigs Some are a bit too high imho, I don't like it when such sigs are much bigger than the average post
  5. Check the SMART settings (Health tab ) just to make sure there's nothing wrong with your disk.
  6. Haha, nice one . It just shows you how less people know about computers, even tough they are using them daily. I must admit KDE4 looks very nice, but I've never been a fan of over-fancy-dancy looking user interfaces, I prefer the small, lightweight windows 2k look and feel (I even use the Gnome Redmond user interface atm ).
  7. Yes, that's completely normal. The reason why the transfer speed is changing so rapidly is because both HD Tune and Windows Vista (and maybe other apps like virus scanner, indexing service, ...) are accessing the drive and are influencing the speeds that HDTune can record.Your data disk does not have this problem because it only contains data, and not executables, dll's, etc ... that other programs need (to read from and write to).
  8. It's especialy the combination of Gmail and Pocket Outlook that give me problems. It can't get passed 400 and a bit messages, it just stops downloading new messages without letting you know there's a problem. Download a complete message also means that the message is removed from pocket outlook the next time I synch it ... The last thing is probably a PE error, but it just doesn't make things better
  9. I use Opera as my primary browser, it's not the lightest browser, but it's blazing fast and has all the features and tools I need.On my virtual windows environment I use Google Chrome as my primary browser because I only need a safe application for surfing the web.IE is only used when something doesn't work in Opera or Chrome (hasn't happend for a while, except google chrome which failed while surfing msnd ).For developping website I use all browsers available that are commonly used (Opera 8.5/9.6, Firefox 2/3, Safari, IE5/6/7/8, Chrome)
  10. You just bumped a 3,5 years old topic Last reply was 1 year old ! People, please check topic dates if you don't use the "view new posts" feature ...
  11. People who want their email available offline simply use POP3 to download the messages (even tough gmail's POP3 sucks because of the limited messages that can be downloaden )
  12. You're bumping a 1yrs old topic I'm not sure what the rules say about selling things throught the forums, but it's worth checking them first
  13. You have to disable hotlink protection on your host (or at least allow hotlinking from Xisto) because you're images don't work when referrer information is send .Nice tutorial btw.
  14. Secunia is indeed a very good source, they keep track of how many unpatched holes there are and how severe the flaws are. They aren't Godlike programmers/hackers so don't expect them to know every security problem, but the provide a good indication //edit: here's the link to the IE security vulnerability report: http://secunia.com/community/
  15. If you pass a struct, you need to tell your program that it's a struct, so void posmath (POS sales, int *intCount, double *total, double *stotal){ should be void posmath (struct POS sales, int *intCount, double *total, double *stotal){ Also, because you're working in C++, you need to declare what namespace you use
  16. It works exactly as VMWare (expect that VirtualBox uses it's own format so the virtual machines aren't interchangeable), you install it, you create new virtual machines and that's it. I do prefer virtualbox over vmware because installing vmware in opensuse 11.0 was extremely difficult. It does work pretty well and is extremely stable (altough Kaspery + Windows 7 and the mex function in Matlab were able to completely crash the video driver (and the os)).
  17. I didn't know you could alter ISO's with CDBurnerXP What you could try is mounting the ISO file use daemon tools, create a new (empty) iso, copy all the file from the virtual drive and add the files you want.
  18. I have it running in virtualbox too. It works, as long as virtualbox is stable. The kaspery anti virus software is horrible, don't try it because it'll keep crashing and booting in safe mode to disable kaspery in virtualbox is very, very, very ... slow. The idea for the new task bar is good, but it might have been a bit smaller, especialy because it makes the usefull height on a 16:10 screen even smaller. I like it, it's worth trying it
  19. If you have port forwarding set correctly, then the single external IP shouldn't be a problem. The (external) port number is arbitraty, it only tells the router to forward all data to an IP adres at a certain port.Eg. 80.86.54.5:65000 could be the external adress to access the your webserver at 10.10.10.1:80 . 80.86.54.5:15000 could be forwarding to another webserver at 10.10.10.50:80. Try ping'ing you server at the external IP adress and the forwarded port.
  20. Nope, skype-to-phone isn't free, you need skypeout and some skype credits to do that, but it's still cheaper as phone-to-phone
  21. Every architecture has it's postive and negative sides, it depends on where you want to use them.
  22. If you have something like dreamweaver you could create a 50x50 table (btw, it works too with tables, I just don't like using them except for data), just 3 clicks. If not, you could make a for loop in PHP that prints the proper HTML syntax
  23. At Xisto - Support under "My Products & Services" you can see the cost of your hostingplan
  24. I just lost $20 in my Xisto pannel .Hope this get fixed soon//edit: submitted a ticket at xisto, hope it get fixed soon.//edit2: I just realised I had a $19.99 hosting plan instead of a $9.99 one. So the $20 deduction at Xisto is normal . It however doesn't explain why I've lost 993.68 myCents
  25. Euhm ... anty spyware programs still work a lot better against spyware/crapware than a virus scanner does. You don't go to war with a banana in your holster, so why fighting against spy-ware with a virusscanner ? Anyway, I don't believe in speed up utilities, keeping windows clean is the first and only step to keep windows fast and reliable, the speed up utilities are nothing but patches that aren't big enough.
