  1. Do you have more information on this ? I can't believe that they can offer something new after more than 10 titles
  2. Be carefull with what you use, some products contain chemicals (like ammonium) that can destroy the matte/glossy layer on your sreen ! Best is to use products specifically made for cleaning flat screens, the extra money spend on these products might save you a few $100 for a new screen. Btw, I only clean my screen using a soft handkerchief and some moisture from breathing on the screen, 100% safe, leaves no streaks but takes a bit more time to remove stains.
  3. When you say system32, do you mean all services located in the system32 folder ? Because there is no such service as system32. If that's what you mean, then what you can do is disable all 3rd party services using mmc and delay start tthe hem using http://www.r2.com.au/page/products/ .
  4. I think you're quite odd because you say you're sick because you program for fun and you do paint in forests . No offence .A lot of people program for fun (if I wouldn't have to spend so much time for school I would start programming, but now I don't have the time to finish a project), most open source applications are made by such people, we need those people. It's even positive you still have a life, a lot of programmers tend to be stuck behind their computers, sitting there all day long, hardly getting some fresh air, the fact that you go outside and enjoy nature as a beautifull thing is a good thing.Ps. Visual Basic for Office is like the worst programming language ever made .Ps2. programming can make life a lot more easy, 10 lines of codes can do a few 1000 operations per second ... imagine doing all that by hand.
  5. I wouldn't exactly say that, Paint.net is a powerfull program, if you see what people can do in the regular paint then image what the posiblities of paint.net are. Of course, professional will never work with paint.net, it's not a $3000 software replacement
  6. How does it compare to Mplayer or VLC player ? I know those two can play most corrupted media files (especialy mplayer works great). Is GOM player capable of doing so (I don't have a corrupt file to test right now, so if someone could test this for me or can share his experience )
  7. The specs of these new macbooks are looking promising, but I'm a bit skeptical about the package. It sure does look good, but the screen looks like it's going the be a mirror (like Sony's laptop screens) and I'm a bit afraid the glass is going to be quite fragile or quite heavy.
  8. I can't remember when I had my first experience with linux, but I still remember that it was Red Hat Linux 6.0. By the time I installed it, it was already outdated, but I didn't mind because I wanted to install it on an old DX4 with not enough memory. It was a hell to install it because I had to modify the huge list of software and partition several 500Mb HDDs to get it installed (and to make things worse, if there wasn't enough space, the installed would stop and I had to start over and over again). After a while, I did get Red Hat running, but it was soo slow that I decided to leave it for what is was. Few year laters I re-attempted it, but it failed again . My first real try at Linux as a windows replacement was with Slackware, I tought that if I'd go with linux, I'd better do it good (and Slackware IS good, but realy tough).
  9. Our school moved their mail server to google this year, it's much better than their own mail server they hosted themself last years, but it's too bad they have disabled pop and imap .
  10. I've been using Avast for a long time and I very happy with the software. It might not have the best engine (Antivir has, at least, last year), but it's user-friendlyness is fantastic.
  11. It's not as powerfull as the GIMP, nothing near that, but it does come close. I think the main difference between paint.net and the gimp is that the gimp is more for photo editing and paint.net more for drawing.
  12. I don't think this is going to work if you define the toolbox as a new window. Maybe this helps: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ These toolbars can be undocked, so they are floating, but still tight to the main window
  13. Join the club . It all looks so easy, but why can't I do such things
  14. Breaking captcha's is just a matter of tweaking an OCR engine, if you check out the list of recognizeable captcha's you cleary recognize the most common types. Recognize the type, load a tweaked OCR engine and off you go . Don't know how they cracked the cutest cat captcha, they must have spend quite some time in an object recognitioning algorithm, but it's probably worthless if you use other images/subjects
  15. afaik the floating windows in photoshop become inactive too. Basicly, there's no such thing as 2 active windows in windows, there's always maximaly 1 active window and the other ones are in the background. What do you need 2 active windows for ?
  16. They should make this one sticky -> http://forums.xisto.com/topic/95119-topic/?findpost=1064385530
  17. This is the situation. I have a HP Laserjet connected to my main pc which runs windows XP. I have this printer shared so I could use it on my laptop (laptop doesn't have ltp port ), but I can't seem to add it because my password contains an '@' . The problem is that you usualy add an smb printer as smb://username:password@host/printername so what I get is smb://my_name:my@containingpassword@1.1.1.1/HPLaserJet4L Obviously, two @ in the url aren't possible, so my question is, is there another way to pass the password ?
  18. I always tought a webserver simply replies with a webpage (ASCII), not keeping mind of what a browser is capable of. Isn't it up to the developper to serve different pages depending on the browser ? Also, it's completely useless to use custom user-agent strings, it messes up website stats
  19. Windows black ? That's the first thing I've heard about it. The next windows release is Windows 7 (aka Windows Vienna), google it and you'll find lots of info
  20. Indeed, most people prefer another flavor of linux and they all have good reasons for it . Because linux (and most other programs) are open source, this means there are a lot of different versions available, all with different settings and preferences, that's why it's up to you to see which version is best for you. Most common distributions are available as a live-cd too, you download it, burn it, pop it in your cd-drive, reboot and you have a full functionaly linux installation without it tampering with your hdd. If your not happy with it, simply reboot (remove the cd too ) and you're back to windows. Some suggestions: Ubuntu: comes in different flavors (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu), but the only real difference are the looks (GUI) and the applications that come with. It's the best for beginners, they have a hug knowledge base, a lot of users and a lot of developpers give instructions on how to install their software on this distribution. openSuse: my favourite, it's both user friendly and advanced at the same time. Mandrive: as suggested by yordan Fedora: comes from the makers of Red Hat, it's not as easy as ubuntu and openSuse, but it robust and advanced. Slackware: if you have a lot of time, this one is worth trying too. It's absolute not user friendly, but a very powerfull distribution is given to you instead. A lot of configuration has to be done to get it fully working, but when it's up and running, you'll be a very happy linux user
  21. Jersey, if you copy something from another site, you should place it between quotes and refer to the source (apple.com in this case). I'm quite surprised they've switched back to the 'longer' format (Nano 2nd) instead of the more rectangular format (Nano 3rd). It looks like Apple is realy pushing their developper to put as many features in it and they are not very original in doing it.

Eggie, next time you have a problem you'll have to give us a bit more information. Don't expect us to start looking for your CSS code and markup, we are a bit lazy you know , you have to give it to us . Could you share how you fixed it ? People who have the same problem could use this information
  23. That's nothing new because they've already done that to Windows Server 2008. The nearly GUI-less version is the Core edition and it's purpose is to offer a small, lightweight server OS with an as small as possible footprint so more Core-versions can be run using virtiualisation. The downside is that not all 'features' are available because .NET is required (.NET is not a part of the Core edition) and that all the configuration has to be done using the Powershell. I don't think Microsoft will release a Core edition of Windows 7, 90% of the end users won't be interested in it nor will be of any value.
  24. If you are still in development stage of your website and you're still writing code or configuring it, then you could call it developing. If you use these tools for a site that it already up and running then I'd call it maintaining it because you're no longer developing it, your managing it. The tools you suggest mostly check for broken links and create maps (except webanalyzer, gonna check if it's worth installing ) of websites. Also, you might have use these tools on your post because none of the links are working Astra-site manager -> refers to the hp website (merc-int probably refers to Mercury Inc. which is a part of HP now) Linkbot -> dead Merzscope -> spam webanalyzer -> dead //edit: damn you habble for bumping a 4 years old thread and make me look like a fool xD
  25. I have no troubles designing templates for Joomla, requires hardly any php coding so it's basicly the same as creating a site design. When I design a site, I always design them in linux and test them in windows. I have a virtual XP installed with the most common browsers (IE3 till 7, Firefox 3, Opera 9.50, Safari) and I try to make them work in all (altough I don't mind a few glitches in IE6 and lower, as long as they don't disturb)
