Alright, it's nice to see someone willing to try something new. Let me tell you that I was a Slackware user before coming to Gentoo and I had to keep going back to Windows for some stuff. But after I started using Gentoo sometimes it's even weeks before I reboot into Windows. I've been using Gentoo for 5 months now and it's simply amazing. Ok, now, coming to your questions ... It is the best software management utility. I would say it's better than apt-get or yum or any other thing software manager because there has NEVER been any dependency problem till now for any package I've used. That's not required. You only need 2 partitions - one for installing the system and one for swap. The handbook assumes you want to install boot in a separate partition. I don't know if there's any advantage by doing like that, but I prefer to have only one partition for everything ... especially since the space I've got for Linux is kinda limited right now (approx 17GB). It is not difficult to do at all. I would advice you to keep some decent amount of space for Linux. 7GB should be comfortable for a decent system, but if you've got more, it's always better. Just one suggestion, when you come to the part of partitioning, use 'cfdisk' instead of 'fdisk'. It's got a more intuitive feel to it. fdisk uses the CLI (Command Line Interface), but cfdisk has a nice interface for partitioning. YES!!!! PATIENCE! And make it a point to read the handbook completely. There are some points which you can skip like about the networking and stuff, but be sure to just skim through it once so that you don't miss something very vital. There's a lot of food for thought in the handbook but the Gentoo documentation is the best you'll ever come across. And also, the user community is very good. The installation will take some time and also, you may not get it right the first time round. But keep at it, and you'll get it eventually. To install the base system, for one who's well versed with the handbook, it takes 4-5 hours. And that'll get you only upto the command line from where you'll have to install X, KDE, ALSA and everything. But, once it's up and running, you'll realise the actual power of Gentoo B-). For example, how many distros let you install quake3 arena with: emerge quake3 Feel free to ask any questions here in the forum. I had qwijibow help me out with Gentoo when I started out. I'm pretty sure you can count on him as well.

Pictures Of My New Computer - I Just Built

Hey hey hey ... back off buddy . I happen to like SP2. Because regular Windows XP Pro (or Home for that matter) doesn't even recognise my 160GB hard disk completely. The limit is only upto 137GB. Even the system feels a bit more stable after SP2. Without SP2 I used to keep getting a message everytime I started the computer that the system has recovered from a fatal problem and blah blah blah even though it was shut down properly. None of that nuisance now after installing SP2. -

Umm ... none of the links to the pics are working. If you're having problems with imageshack, try Pictiger. That's pretty good too. -

Ah ... now I really wish I had seen some of this stuff 3 years ago. That's when I played GTA3 like hell. I was dam interested in modding stuff, but never could get a proper tut explaining how to do it like this one. But now, after playing GTAVC and GTASA, I doubt I'll be going back to GTA3 now .But it's an amazing tutorial. Good work . -
Moved To Computinghost But am still being charged hosting credits
abhiram replied to saxsux's topic in General Discussion
Your hosting account ... yes. Not your forum account. Atleast I don't think it will. But since you're not hosted here anymore and you say you're already way in the negative, AND your site is still working, I guess it doesn't matter anymore. But if you still feel funny about it, just PM m^e or moonwitch and they'll tell you what to do about it. -
Boast About The Collector's Spirit In You

Stamps for me. I've been collecting stamps since the eighth grade. If I see an envelope lying on the street, I instinctively reach for it to see if it has any stamp that I don't have in my collection. I'm just crazy about it . -

Why bother at all. Since the hosting credits don't matter anymore, and it doesn't affect your forum account in any way. -

Don't know about Mac, but my friend had a similar problem on his system. Turned out that he put the keyboard pin in the mouse port (PS/2 both) . -
Google Page Rank: A Question About It
abhiram replied to Quatrux's topic in Websites and Web Designing
oh ... ok. Not too sure about that. But it should work right? As far as google is concerned, if a website address is unique, it should index whatever that's there at the address right? I think it'll work fine. -
Google Page Rank: A Question About It
abhiram replied to Quatrux's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You just have to submit the new domain to google. Usually, this is done automatically by Google, or your domain/Hosting service. But it might take time for Google to come to it eventually. You could go ahead and submit it yourself to Google at Google Submit yourself to speed it up. I've done this twice and it can take anything from a couple of weeks to a month to get added into google's index. You don't have to worry about the old domains. Google's crawler will eventually phase out non-existent pages from it's database. -
Oh man! Terrible site. Plenty of pop-ups. From the look of it, it appears to be just like any other "Click here to win free cash/ipod" kinda site. Are you sure it works?

So ... intel struck up a deal with Skype huh? I wonder why they chose a VOIP company and that too one which is not really a life or death issue. I mean, why didn't they just go with Microsoft or Yahoo messenger? Hehe ... that'll be fun, "Microsoft Windows works only on Intel chips" .As far as Activision patronising AMD is concerned, maybe they found that AMD is more efficient or gives better performance with their games than Intel. It's not like they've entered a pact with AMD that they'll recommend AMD for their games in exchance for a fee.
