Gentoo Linux - How Many Users Out There ? gentoo linux distro
abhiram replied to helric's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Easier? Easier than what? I'm afraid to use gentoo. If there is one thing I still don't have the balls to use ... it's gentoo.... inspite of using linux for over a year now. With the download speed I've got, it'll take 2 whole days just to download and install KDE!!! And, if anything happens (God forbid!) to the installation and you have to reinstall, you've wasted 2 days of your life!!! . Sorry, I'm gonna stick with ready to install and go type distros like slackware. . If I want to do a reinstall, all I;ve got to do is pop the CD in and in a 45 min or so, I'm good to go. -
Hi Solanky, check out my site here. It's not much but it's a very basic layout using CSS. Try resizing the browser window and see what happens. If you need the source, PM me with your email and I'll mail them to you. IMO, it's not necessary because there are plenty of articles on the net about resizable layouts. Try googling for it. You can do lots of surprising things with CSS. Hope that helps you out.

You mean the other agencies in other countries are just waiting for NASA to explore first and then follow them? Get real. NASA might be the only agency that has the funds to take space exploration very seriously.

New Pictures Of My Trip Up Northern India
abhiram replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Oh man, these pics are simply amazing. It must feel great to take pics like these with your own camera instead of buying them. Of all your pics, I just love this one: This one I'm using this as a wallpaper and think I will for some time to come. btw... there isn't any copyright on these photos right ? hehe...not that it'll stop me but just curious. I'll have to go there trekking sometime myself. I'm way down in the South. Too damn hot right now. -
Dark Apahlite, Hmm... looks like we're both a bit off track here . He bought a box... i.e. a hard drive, motherboard, processor and cabinet. ok... my bad... not just a computer .

What Drives Your Life? what makes you who you are?
abhiram replied to iGuest's topic in General Discussion
What drives me? hmmm... that's a good question. Frankly, I don't think anything drives me. Right now I have nothing to look forward to. Exams, assignments, projects... dam, it's all too much work. I just relax here in front of the computer whenever I'm stressed out (and whenever I'm not as well). I'm trying to improve myself in everyway I can, but procrastination is one thing I don't think I'll ever get over. If the question is 'What drives you to continue living ?'.... I would say that it would be my hope of some day being able to purchase things that I've always wanted since I was a child, being able to do things that I wanted to do, being able to go places that I wanted to. But that doesn't really make me push myself to my limits. What I need is a real motivator to overcome my laziness and push myself to do my best in everything I attempt. The driving force has always been there.... but it's the kind of driving force that just quietly sits in the background and doesn't make a sound except when you're trying to sleep. I guess I've rambled enough. For some reason, I always blab too much when it comes to philosophy. -
Opinions Of My Work I need some opinions for this
abhiram replied to escobar5's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Nice, really nice. Did you do this in a computer because it looks like you used a real brush and canvas for it. It has a 'mysterious' feel to it. -
A straightedge is one who doesn't drink, smoke, dope and doesn't have casual sex?!! WTF?!! Then I've been a straightedge for a very long time. I never smoked, I never boozed, never doped and casual sex?!! I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD NORMAL SEX! It's been 6 years since I last ate an egg and 8 years since my last non-vegetarian meal. I don't push people to become vegetarians... I only keep telling my friends who smoke not to because it isn't good for their health ("You keep smoking that **** and you're gonna die before you graduate you stupid motherf*****"-that's wht i tell them, but i say it very nicely ).So, given the above facts I guess that makes me pretty much a straightedge, although this is the first time I've actually known about the existence of such a community.Oh yea... I listen to hardcore rock as well. I also listen to soft rock, classic rock, acid rock, punk rock and heavy metal .

Hi TotalLamer , You've decided the right thing. CSS is amazing compared to frames and tables. I would suggest, if you are new to CSS, go through the tutorial at w3schools: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp In one of the chapters, there is one in which they show you a basic layout with a header menubar etc. I would suggest you do the whole thing because it is very well documented. Also, take a look at 'A List Apart' at: http://alistapart.com/ They have everything about CSS from layouts to custom borders and horizontal and vertical menus. There was a really good site about completely liquid layouts in CSS, but I can't seem to find it. It has examples for a large number of layouts. I'll look it up and post back later.

Issues Win Xp Pro - Tugzip
abhiram replied to moonwitch1405241479's topic in Websites and Web Designing
This looks pretty wierd. Are you using Windows XP? When did this start happening? Maybe the TugZip.exe file has been corrupted. Did this start after you installed a particular program? Maybe there is some conflict between TugZip and Dr. Watson. Did you try reinstalling the program? Sometimes it helps. I had a problem once with the Windows XP picture viewer. explorer would crash whenever I opened a folder which had the filmstrip view enabled. But I just rebooted and it started working fine again. I don't even know what caused it. -
This seems wierd. I mean... what's the point of removing the ESRB rating? What good will that do? Maybe Jack Thompson intends to start his own rating service . Yea that will be fun... 'Super Mario bros. rated 'Adult' because of violence'LOL )

Tutorials Of Setting Up MySQL DBs On Your System ?
abhiram replied to silentkarma1405241502's topic in Programming
XAMPP sounds good. I'll give it a try sometime. If you're only planning on using PHP and MySQL, I would suggest trying out WAMP. It sets up Apache, MySQL and PHP in windows. Just like XAMPP, it's just click and install and you're ready to go. I've been using it for quite some time now. You can get it from: http://www.wampserver.com/ The hard way to do it would be install and configure each component seperately. You could download Apache, MySQL and PHP each individually and then install and configure them on your computer. I did that once and as a novice, it took me 2 days to get it running with no problems. I used IIS instead of Apache. This can be installed from the Windows CD as an optional package. It's definitely easier to use WAMP than this. WAMP can be installed in a matter of minutes....everything configured and ready to go! Hope this helps out. -
Same here. I also prefer to code everything from the ground up. Atleast, I make it a point to use my own code. Of course, I'm still learning, but I always try to learn how to do things rather than use a publisher or a ready-made template from the web. I use Crimson Editor for coding HTML and Top Style for coding CSS.

Not me, I don't 'buy' a PC from a company. I would rather go and get the parts myself and assemble them myself. It's much more economical and also, I get the computer with the configuration that I want. I've got 2 computers, one at home and one at my univ, both assembled and work great.

Realplayer Cannot Open The Audio Device?
abhiram replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've had this problem too. Realplayer doesn't have support for alsa sound or something like that, i'm not sure. You will have to run it under simulated OSS sound.Type 'aoss realplay' in the command shell. It works for me. -
He means that at 12, you must be quite smart to know so much about computers (no sarcasm).

Sorry about double posting, but... on the same topic, check out this site: https://www.archlinux.org/ If we resize the the width and make it smaller, the elements adjust themselves upto a certain extent. If we reduce it beyond that, the elements don't adjust anymore and a horizontal scroll appears. How does he do this. I'm kinda new to CSS... still trying to get over tables. I've seen the source of the CSS files he used and none of them have any float statements. I thought the only way to make resizable webpages was using float. How did he do this?
