  1. Hi darkranger,I've been learning CSS for a couple of months now. It's not difficult at all. It's quite easy to learn as there are plenty of resources on the net. It still has some compatibility issues with IE and some browsers, but there are ways to circum navigate those issues using javascript. The best thing about CSS is that it can fit in any resolution. Try resizing the window for any of the layouts and they rearrange accordingly. The reason I started making different templates is becoz my friends tell me that #1 is too dull . Thanks for your opinion. All of the templates are my original (not just #1) but some ideas have been borrowed from various sites on the net for all the templates.
  2. Hi, I've been trying to make some templates using just CSS and nothing but. It's a bit difficult to do it without using any tables but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I need some opinion about the following templates. btw, please don't forget that I'm still a beginner and ignore the fact that I haven't used even a single image anywhere. 1. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This is the first of the CSS layouts that actually started to look decent. Made it last month. 2. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The popup text for the menu has been copied from some site on the web... I don't recall. But it was titled 'Pure CSS menus' or something. 3. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I tried to repeat the same thing with a horizontal menu with disastrous results. So, I had to make the menu buttons big enough to encompass the popup text. 4. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ After a lot of googling, I finally found out how to get what I wanted. This is the final form of layout1. Any criticism will be appreciated.
  3. haha ... that's rich. Pretty good find. Nice for some random trivia.
  4. 823kb for a sig... lol.... people on dial-up are gonna hate you for making a sig like that. The second one is ok i guess... size wise. But both the sigs are great. Pretty cool and the clips that you used are really amazing. I finished doom3 almost a year ago, but I don't recall these scenes. Oh well, maybe I wasn't paying too much attention to the cut scenes .
  5. Jazz? hmmm.... STEELY DAN! It's not exactly jazz, but bordered on jazz and rock. I've been listening to them non-stop for the past 6 months and they are simply amazing. Try them out.... amazing guitar and piano solos. Other than that, I'm mostly into rock.
  6. I would suggest you fix up an appointment with the doctor at the earliest. There is no point in delaying because, without medical attention, it can only get worse. I'm not an expert in this... but I do know that by neglecting it you can only make it worse. Keep your trust in God and get it diagnosed. In all probability it is just a small ligament problem. Reading things on the internet or in any medical book is not a very good idea. I'm just guessing that you are not in the medical profession. Half-knowledge can be very dangerous. Reading something on the internet for symptoms that are 'similar' .....? Just my opinion. You are 24 years old. And on top of that, your hobbies are sports and fitness. I wouldn't count on it being cancer.... Have faith in God, and get it checked up. Just a piece of advice.
  7. Hey, I wrote a tutorial on the same topic not too long ago. There are 2 methods in mine. One of them is this one. Sorry, I didn't know this topic was done before. Here's the post: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/85769-topic/?findpost=1064316348 m^e: That's a neat idea, but what do you do about it in winxp? I mean, autoexec.bat is 0 bytes long in mine . I don't think winxp uses autoexec.bat.
  8. Well.... I've used geocities, I mean it isn't that bad. They only put one banner on the right. The features in Geocities are very well arranged and easy to use. But Angelfire.....GAWD HELP US! It's pathetic. The worst is the domain name that they give you. It's like a subfolder in a subfolder. And also the features are so crappy.
  9. nice.... been a very long time since I saw this. I used to have a calendar on an A4 sheet which would tell you the day of the week for any date within a span of 10,000 years. That was nearly 10 years ago. I still might have it at home. The first time I read about this was in a book by Shakuntala Devi, a very renowned number theorist. 'Figuring' was the name if I'm not mistaken. She could actually do the whole thing in her head and give you the day of the week in seconds!!! She actually visited my mom's school when my mom was a student (35 years ago!) and gave a demonstration. heh ... anyway great find.
  10. I've got an Asus A78XVM something motherboard with nvidia geforce4 chipset. There is an option called RTC alarm, i think that's it, but it isn't working. I tried it out, putting one minute ahead and saving it and switching it off. But it didn't switch on. Any ideas?
  11. Nah... he wasn't concerned about losing hosting. He got bored of this place... check out one of his previous posts where he tried to start a flame war. IMO, he just wanted out and wanted to have some fun (at others' expense) before he left.
  12. Well, since you rate it so high, I'd like to check it out... but right now, my univ's net connection is at an all time low. So it might be a while before I try to install gentoo. Anyway, thanks for the info. For the time being, I'll have to continue with slackware.
  13. Hi cyborgxxi,A word of advice... take it from one who's been there and done that. If you want to learn something, be it computers or music or anything, if you think you have the discipline to learn it on your own without any distractions and can do a good job about it... you don't have to do a course. The internet will help you out. But if you are the kind of person who gets distracted quite easily like me, I would suggest you go to a course. Even if they don't teach you anything worthwile, since you have the interest yourself it will propel you to learn on your own using any means possible. The benefit of going to a course is that you are forced to spend an hour or so on that particular subject whether you want to or not. It's up to you.One more thing. If you are going to start something, make sure you complete it... or atleast do it till a point you are competent in it. Don't do it halfway and then change the subject. That's what I did and now I'm in a complete mess. Take up C, it's a very basic and a very useful language. Work at it... learn everything there is to learn about it. Write some applications with it. Then improvise.... learn C++ and master it. After that, move over to VC++ and VB and start developing windows applications. Otherwise... if you want to learn web design... spend some time on it... learn HTML, PHP, MySQL, and all the graphics tools. But don't leave it half done.Final word of advice, if you are doing something, do it completely. I've rambled a lot, but I hope it helps you. If you need some material or something you can't find on the net, let me know and I'll see if I can get it from alternate sources.Wish you luck.
  14. Goes for anyone on this forum . There aren't many forums with such amiable people as this one.
  15. Too bad man. I wouldn't suggest you trying out again for a website unless you plan on maintaining it. If you do, I suggest you try asking the admins for a concession and maybe they'll reset your credits to zero. It'll take you forever to recover from -207. If not, better start off with a new account. Atleast then you'll start from zero. hmmm... it's the same thing I guess.
  16. No, you have to make posts worth 207.81 points. Each post's worth is decided on the length. If you post a well documented tutorial, you might get upto 10 points or more. It's number of days now instead of number of points. That number probably shows how many days behind you are ... 207 days... far far behind . You're member no. 491.... you are one of the early members, why did you slacken? You've registered almost a year ago.
  17. Sorry... my bad . The login required was the email address and not just the user name. Can one of the admins delete this topic?
  18. Hi, My domain is at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I've created a couple of email ids in CPanel using the add/remove email accounts option. But when I try to access the emails by logging into ... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ...I get a login attempt failed. I'm able to login only using the main account username and password. I've tried this for two email ids but the same story for both. But, I can access the emails by logging into CPanel -> add/remove email accounts -> check webmail account for the email. When i click on it, it prompts me for the password and takes me directly to the inbox of that email id. Any ideas? Thanks.
  19. [qutoe]Ugh. Whenever I think about formatting my harddisk, I feel happy. What a clean start! Refreshing, clean, new... without any spywares or pesky stuff trying to bog me down. That sort of stuff won't happen if you kept a regularly updated Antivirus, a properly configured firewall and a regularly updated anti-spyware. You wouldn't even have to format the HD also .Wutske has already answered all your questions excellently. IMO, use only the windows XP CD for formatting the HD. Don't use Partition magic or any such third party software for formatting or anything at all for that matter. You are liable to screw up your Hard disk completely.
  20. This looks very interesting... but I've got a few questions. Obviously, uncapping is to get more bandwidth than you are supposed to. I'm sorry if I sound a little ignorant, but what is a cable modem? Is it the ordinary telephone modem? Does your method work with broadband networks? The link you posted: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ isn't working for me.... giving me a page not found error. Your info is very extensive and detailed, but you could have made it into 2 sections... linux and windows instead of mixing the two together. No offense.... but most of this matter is over my head , I'll need some time to study it.
  21. Well, personally I don't give a dam about darwin's theory of evolution. That was just kid's stuff and it was interesting in a fascinating sort of way back then. Now... I couldn't care less. But this site.... sh** man!!! It's really pathetic ! I'm depressed now after reading the first 3 stories. I mean like.. wtf is this site trying to prove? Is it a good read? no. Is it funny? NO!!! This reminds me of some dope movie I saw which spoiled my mood for the rest of the day. I don't remember the name, but it's about some dope pushers screwing up their lives because of dope. Critically acclaimed i guess.
  22. Sorry man, ... just the thought of having to let your computer just sit there for 2 whole days and not touch it at all.... no songs, games or net. How do you do that? I might try it out if it doesn't take so long to install.
  23. Slackware is the greatest. Been using it for almost a year now and I've got to say, it's great. I would go with Waco's idea as it coincides exactly with mine. Mandrake for the noob, Slackware for the experienced, Gentoo for the brave ! ( Not my own, but something I read somewhere on the net, LinuxQuestions I guess. I'm still not up to using gentoo. It's a little too much trouble than I would care for. Like come on... 2 days for installing an OS? Not for me .
  24. You're not expected to . A link is just sufficient for anyone who is interested.
