  3. Try using the standard HTTP way to log in using port 2082. If not, use a proxy server. xboxrulz
  4. yes, but MPlayer doesn't support ALSA, which is a pain in the neck.xboxrulz
  5. yes, there are speculations about that, but I don't think it'll work as planned, as I don't think it works with games or heavy processes like games.xboxrulz
  6. YouTube works with Flash 7; this has been tested with Linux.xboxrulz
  7. Picasa for Linux (beta) http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ xboxrulz

  9. I recommend you to NOT jump on the iPod bandwagon (as some people now say that you only want an iPod because you just want to look like everyone else and not because it's good or whatever) but anyways, there are MP3 players better than the iPod, for example, this one I have is great or even better than the iPod in some aspects: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Although, I did switch to the new Motorola Rokr E1 phone w/ iTunes but it was because I didn't want to carry an MP3 player and a phone separate. xboxrulz
  10. it's really great. I find it kinda slow compared to Linux though...xboxrulz
  11. for me, originally, my friend was recommending me to look into Linux when I was making plans to start a webhosting company (never happened). Then the further I looked into the hole, the more I learned that it's one of the best operating systems in the world. I soon also learned the evil side of Micro$oft. Now, here I am, running Linux on my desktop and laptop. SuSE Linux to be exact.xboxrulz
  12. actually you can run a selected number of Windows applications using the WINE compatibility layer that allows you to run Windows applications under Linux with few or no problems. https://www.winehq.org/ List of supported Windows applications: https://appdb.winehq.org/ xboxrulz
  13. yes, Linux supports those via the SAMBA (Windows) protocol. At my house, that's how I setup my printers and networking. Everything to a Linux machine. Yet, a litle configuration is required. I recommend using SuSE Linux since it has the easiest configurator on the Linux market.xboxrulz
  14. lol, rightly said XIII, I too believe your theory. It's the user's ignorance that provides Microsoft with money. If people don't have the ignorance that they do now, I don't think Microsoft is still standing where they are now.xboxrulz
  15. GNOME makes it hard to install fonts. On Linux, you just type fonts:/ in Konqueror and then drag and drop them there. After rummaging through my machine, I found the proper pa http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ xboxrulz
  16. no problem, that's why I'm around on the Linux forums. I'm here to share my knowledge of this great operating system!Happy Linuxing!xboxrulz
  17. yes, that is somewhat true, but remember, you still need to go through and get a driver's license. Which they will teach you how to drive the thing. On Windows, the software itself is your chaffeur. On Linux, you're the driver and if you want, the body shop.So really, you do get much more from Linux than Windows.About the time travelling thing, we'll never know, we could have a company that's even worse than Microsoft, a company like Microsoft and a company that better than Microsoft.xboxrulz
  18. You need a few tools to watch DVDs and watch MP4/MOV/AVI/WMV. It is recommended to install the VLC media player because when you install VLC, it'll usually install the libdvdcss (ability to watch copyrighted DVDs.) You'll also need to install the codecs from design7/news.html in order to watch MP4/MOV/AVI/WMV. xboxrulz
  19. hmmmm.... I have heard that 0.9.12+ breaks IE, but I'm not sure as I haven't tried it yet.xboxrulz
  20. true and not true, there may be less people using computers but the technology industry would be 2x further than it has been for years. Why? No new innovations from Microsoft or any large companies. The opensource community has been providing most of our innovations like networking, mainly thanks to the BSD community. Most of the great OS designs are thanks to the modern UNIX OS.So, I guess without M$, we won't suffer that much.xboxrulz
  21. ies4linux is great if you want barebone IE6 features because Windows Media Player DOES NOT work on it.xboxrulz
  22. Usually, there is an installation program included INSIDE the tarball (.tar or tgz)xboxrulz
