Purchasing A Laptop - Your Suggestions

I guess the graphics accelerator you're talking about is GMA 950. It's good, but it sucks at anything 3D. It use a bit less energy, you won't even notice. About Core 2 Duo, prepared to pay more for it compared to AMD laptops. That's why I just got myself a brand new HP Pavilion dv2410ca (I'm receiving it in the mail tomorrow). NET LAPTOP COST: CA$899.96 (no tax incl.) It's replacing my old Samsung NV 5000. xboxrulz -
Norton just pulls on your computer a lot, so I now avoid Norton AV. I use AVG Free as it barely uses any memory to run and scan or I use Avast 4 on the X86_64 machines.xboxrulz

True, 6.0 MP is useless for most people and too expensive too. However, camera phones are starting to replace digital cameras as for example, even the Sony Cybershot is now integrated into all Sony Ericsson phones instead of having it separate.xboxrulz

That also works, but it just sounds like he just forgot to install the drivers. Just reinstall them from the AMD ATI website.xboxrulz -
Why bother? Internet Exploiter, I mean Explorer can already do that. It's not going to kill you to use IE for just updates.Plus, I don't trust that website and it's going to be obsolete once Vista is the norm as Windows Updates is built into the operating system. Also, your system should already update whenever you're connected online or when you shutdown your machine (On XP SP2/2003 SP1+/Vista)xboxrulz

Dell is pretty ok. It does break down quite a lot. True, aside from Toshiba, and Dell. Acer is the 2nd most broken laptops. TOSHIBA - 1 CRIT, 2 MAJR, 1 MINR DELL - 3 CRIT, 1 MAJR, 5 MINR ACER - 2 CRIT, 1 MAJR, 0 MINR APPLE - 0 CRIT, 0 MAJR, 1 MINR HP - 0 CRIT, 0 MAJR, 0 MINR SAMSUNG - 0 CRIT, 1 MAJR, 0 MINR MDG - 0 CRIT, 0 MAJR, 0 MINR LENOVO - 0 CRIT, 0 MAJR, 2 MINR CRIT - Hardware faults MAJR - Operating System faults, reinstall required MINR - Just settings needs to be changed to work. That's the history for laptop repairs. However, the approx. percentages of laptops I touched are (from 2006-2007 school year for those with laptops): TOSHIBA - 2% of the student population DELL - 50% of the student population ACER - 10% of the student population APPLE - 30% of the student population HP - 3% of the student population MDG - 1% of the student population LENOVO 4% of the student population I have yet to repair an HP or MDG machine. xboxrulz -

Did you make sure you installed the drivers from your manufacturer? Your manufacturer is AMD. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Plus, tell us what Operating System are you running. Windows XP? Windows Vista? Linux? What are you running? xboxrulz -

You might want to stay back from Toshiba. In my experience, they are the ones that I have to fix the most, among my friends. Some just dies outright. Same with Dell and some Acers. The specifications looks nice, but I bet this machine costs more than a USD$1000.I recommend HP or Acer and I highly recommend Apple.xboxrulz -
That's not for Vienna. That's Windows Vista before the complete rewrite. xboxrulz

The long wait was because the original kernel was based on Windows XP, but it was really unsecure and a lot of things didn't work out for Microsoft, so they scrapped it and rewrote one based on Windows Server 2003 (NT 5.2) instead. xboxrulz

Battlefield 2 is cheap by now. If you have more money, go for Battlefield 2142. (I got BF2142 on release date )xboxrulz -
That's correct, that is our rule. As for the problem, you must make sure that you installed the WLAN drivers on your Ubuntu installation before you can use the WLAN adapter. If your WLAN card doesn't come with a Linux driver or if Broadcom doesn't have a Linux driver for your system, then use NDISWrapper. For more help, visit the Ubuntu Forums. xboxrulz
