  1. Actually, if you pull it to 150% volume, the speakers don't distort. It only starts doing that at around 200%, but there's no reason for me to pull to 200%. Also, for some people like me, who bring laptops to school, it's not really an option to bring external speakers when showing videos to others. lol, I've seen other laptops from Acer, HP and even Sony have CPU temperatures up to 80 degrees Celsius if they run Intel Core 2 chips. Yes, Apple's exhaust isn't the best, but still, these chips run hotter than the G4, which they should just went with the PA6T. 25W or less on desktops/servers, so I would imagine even less for laptops. Even if they truly didn't want to stick to the PowerPC instruction, at least they could have went with AMD. xboxrulz
  2. No, AMD actually ALLOWS you to clock your system. Starting with Phenom, AMD supplies you with an easy way to overclock it. They will give you a software that would let you monitor the system and use a slider to overclock it. Of course you can still use the traditional method, but AMD makes it easier. Front Side Bus (northbridge) is the connection between your processor and your memory, and other input/output devices that are embedded to the motherboard. Your Southbridge handles your PCI/AGP/PCI-e connections and your audio. AMD replaced the Front Side Bus with Hypertransport. Intel can only go up to 1333MHz with their FSB right now. AMD can go up to 3600 MHz! The faster the FSB the better since you make connections with the more important components faster so that it wouldn't drag your system. As for 64-bit, if you really want to use more than 4GB of memory (you can't run 32-bit with more than 4GB of memory) and want your system to use its full potential, of course 64-bit is better. However, not all hardware has 64-bit support in the Windows world. As for Linux and Mac, there's bigger support for 64-bit. If MacOS X detects that you have a 64-bit processor, the system is then ran on 64-bit. Linux has a 64-bit option, but must be manually activated. There are way more driver support for both. xboxrulz
  3. lol, ya that was my major issue with my Macbook, other than that it's the stupid Intel chip, but I can't squarely blame Apple for Intel chips running so hot. I can only blame them for using Intel chips.xboxrulz
  4. lol, that would be a problem and chaos will ensue when Xisto loses OpaQue . xboxrulz
  5. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL! http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Note: I merged all the Holiday wishes here! xboxrulz
  6. Many Macbook owners have known this as a terrible issue since Apple allegedly released a newer firmware that lowered the maximum volume of its internal speakers. However, don't fear, there's apparently a third-party fix. Audio Hijack is a third-party software that allows you to increase the volume higher than the default limit. Remember to start this program and press hijack before you launch the program of choice. You can set the audio up to 200% (100% over the default limit). Just like all third-party software, using it is AT YOUR OWN RISK! Cheers! xboxrulz
  7. Even though I use Mozilla Firefox primarily, if I have to use Internet Explorer, I use IE7. IE6 is way too flawed to be allowed to run in my house network. xboxrulz
  8. Another step in working towards interoperability. It is very important in the world where web browsers are free and there are many alternatives. For example: Mozilla Firefox and Opera. On December 19, Ars Technica ran an article that confirms the pre-beta builds of Internet Explorer 8 did indeed pass the Acid 2 test. According to the same article, Microsoft is walking on a thin line between interoperability and compatibility with older Internet Explorer builds like 6 and 7. Also, it should be noted that the first Internet Explorer 8 beta will be released in early 2008. More on this story: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I think it is truly an amazing thing Microsoft is finally realizing. People embrace standards than vendor-lock-ins. xboxrulz
  9. I don't think there would be much affect back here on Earth since Mars is quite the distance away. xboxrulz
  10. More on: CBC News An impact, I think too is unlikely. If it did, it would be spectacular since we're so close to Mars, we can all aim our telescopes and watch the spectacular event. xboxrulz
  11. I have been using AVG and I have never been punctured by a virus, then again, I am very paranoid about computer security.xboxrulz
  12. ya, definitely that's like 3rd year University math there. xboxrulz
  13. Alright, let's take a look. However, remember we're talking about children. That's what I'm doing in grade 12. xboxrulz
  14. AMD is known for being cheaper than Intel. AMD is very overclocking friendly. It also features the all new HyperTransport, which makes the system's Front Side Bus a lot faster. Furthermore, AMD's 64-bit implementation is better than Intel's. Intel's performance on 64-bit feels very sluggish for the price you're paying for. Another thing that makes AMD better than Intel, imo, is its integration of the memory and ethernet controller so that the system doesn't require an external bus in order to connect the components together. This is especially a problem with intensive tasks and gaming, when you have to use an external bus as it drags the system. Furthermore, AMD Athlon chips runs cooler by default than Core 2 Duo and Pentium based chips. xboxrulz
  15. ummm... sorry to break it to you, but I take down all my math notes on my laptop . This is exactly what is written on the board. Not much formatting lost. Sure, the graph is missing its x and y numbers, but it's only a sketch, not a precise thing. Here's an example: I take Advanced Functions in grade 12 (Ontario Curriculum) and here's a screenshot of my math notes. xboxrulz
  16. Interesting, I'll keep that in mind. As for is Solaris faster, I'd say that it's slower on x86 machines compared to SPARC based. That's a little obvious since Solaris was originally built for SPARC then was ported over to the x86 architecture. There may well be some problems running it on x86. Furthermore, I tried running Solaris on a single core Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM, it still lagged like hell, and this is for single user. xboxrulz
  17. I highly support having laptops in school. I bring mine to school everyday to take notes and it's really helpful. Just like any gadgetry, teachers just will have to monitor them. Many private schools in Toronto are starting to adopt laptops into their way of teaching. Some prominent ones include the York School and Greenwood. They provide all students machines and they install all the security and monitoring software into the system by default. Thereby, whenever the child is connected to the school's network. The administrator knows every move the child is making, including if they are playing games on their laptops. My school unfortunately doesn't have that. However, more and more kids are bringing their own laptop, but we don't get network connections at all.xboxrulz
  18. It looks like a pretty solid board. However, I would only suggest the board if you're going to get an Intel Core 2 Duo (at least). My suggestion is to go AMD, but that's only my opinion.xboxrulz
  19. Actually, Linux is also a multithread operating system. I'm not so sure about other Unices like BSD or AIX or what-not. Most modern operating systems are multithreaded for multiple core support. The only main advantage I see right now in Solaris is the ZFS support, but there's already a preliminary Linux support for it, so I won't really hold my breath to jump to Solaris, although it'd be fun to try. Also, I agree with openSUSE, I'm running a heavily modified openSUSE at the moment, it's great!xboxrulz
  20. Most large distributions are very stable. Linux by itself is highly stable already.xboxrulz
  21. Thanks for the suggestion, but my time is growing really short now, so I have just decided to scrap that and just make a personal site/blog thingy. xboxrulz
  22. The thing is, apparently if you study 3rd year astrophysics, you get to learn about nothingness. It's not even a dark place, it's nothing. Darkness is something. There are proof that the universe didn't exist for an infinite time. I do see your point there, but as I said, there are proof that tells you that there are proof that shows that indicates the Big Bang and etc. It has to do with the radiation from different elements found on the outer local superclusters. xboxrulz
  23. For now you can use the Linux section as Solaris is UNIX and Linux is a UNIX-clone. Just add Solaris: as a prefix.xboxrulz
  24. Unfortunately Adobe has never ported Shockwave over to Linux. The only UNIX with Shockwave is MacOS X. As for Frozen Bubble, there was a Frozen Bubble craze at my school before MarbleBlast Gold took over. xboxrulz
  25. It IS HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED to turn off Windows Vista's UAC. It's the heart of its security system (yes it can be flawed at times). Please run your games via administrator's mode (can be set in the application's executable's properties menu). It is also recommended to disable useless services. xboxrulz
