Well, that's comforting to know 100Mbps is good since it's a lot LOL. Well, I went by my old textbook on hardware. Basically I have 2 LONG network cables to connect the NIC with the router/cablemodem. The issue is that I can't read my handwriting that well (heh, it's been 4 yrs). I'll just give it a shot. For now I'll pray that I can go get that comp sooner than Tuesday And then I'll pray for the cable transfer thing.

Site Offline Is there a maintance or something?
moonwitch1405241479 replied to Moody's topic in General Discussion
Well, I've been hosted on my ISP's servers, twice as a matter of fact, been on 50megs, been on Angelfire, Lycos, Geocities, Freewebs etc.. In my time here, I think it's now several months, I've had 2 downtimes on my site (it is hosted on the same servers as yours). Once was due to a server upgrade, and the other was due to the Hard Disk Failure. Both can occur on every server, even on your own computer.I also admin on ipbgaming, to which I have full access (cpanel and the entire thing), that site is hosted on paid servers, it hasnt seen more or less downtime than my own sites (it has been down a few times due to running out of bandwidth). But to say Xisto is very unreliable.... that just hurts. Because I (just as other admins and mods) spend a huge part of my day here, reading EVERYONEs posts, looking into issues, working on skins, trying to improve the forums. Trying to get the load of opaQue just so he can focus on coding and server maintenance.I can understand it is not fun to have your site up, and then it's down. But we can't garantee 100% uptime, because it's simply impossible. Think about what "could" go wrong on a computer? A zillion things can.. Remember that every server IS a computer. The Xisto team does what they do in their free time, we don't get paid, we just are here. Meh, it just hurts to read that people see Xisto as very unreliable, while they have only been here for a little while. And that little while just happens to be that time where we are changing a lot... When we are changing this forum, to meet YOUR wishes better...When a site is down and the admin who can check into it (Nils, M^e or OpaQue - for server issues opaQue is THE guy), they do try to solve it as fast as possible. But it's not just one issue that is dealt with. There's questions, upgrades, approval of hosting, moderating, weeding out spam posts, checking if posts are plagiarized, answering pms.... We are only human, and a server is only a computer... -
Well, I assume just about everyone has heard me shout about my new computer, which will be here soon. But the issue is that I have a lot of data on a partition on my old pc (the one I am using right now). I want to transfer the data from this pc's HD (which is a laptop) to the new one (desktop). I know I can easily do that by connecting them by their network cards. But still I have a few questions.Firstly I'll give you the main specs of the "host" pc and the "receiving" pc.Host pc : IBM Thinkpad 390E, PII333MHz, 256MB RAM, 12GB HD @ 4500RPM. This pc runs Windows 2000 Pro.Receiving pc : AMD Athlon64 3400+, 120GB HD @ 7200RPM, 1024MB RAM running Windows XP Pro.Of course both are equipped with a network card LOL, that's the basic eh?But now my questions? Can I make a network, which is just temporary, between XP and 2k? I have a few network cables here, but there's all Crossed... well half crossed LOL only one side is crossed the other is (how else) straight. But the issue is, can I connect the pc's on a different method to transfer about 4GB or data and all that. I have a router, but only has ONE connection for a pc.... Any suggestions? (other then making a new network cable.. because I don't have the stripper and the RJ45 connector I think)

Fedora Core 4 Just made it through
moonwitch1405241479 replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
jedipi... NOW I love you LOL.... That's what I needed to know, sadly it comes a bit too late really. I'll be getting a new comp with DVD writer, so I might as well download and burn on DVD But nonetheless, it's handy to know. I at one point even asked the FC3 guys on IRC OF Fedora ... and they didn't know...Well, I definately am trying FC4, I've always been with Red Hat even though I have Ubuntu on disc as well. I tried it, and prefer FC3. I don't see how new computer will change that. However, Qwijibow said loads of nice and good things about Gentoo, so I am definately trying that one as well. Besides, what's there NOT to try in Linux? I never understood why so many are scared to try Linux, I had very little computer experience, yet I stayed in Linux for over 3 yrs. With no issues.. Yes, I had the occasional reinstall to fully upgrade the OS with a newer version (which at that point for me was Red Hat 7.1 to 7.3 to 8) -
Sorry for the lingering conspiracies thing, but it happens often here, so we do the test Anyhow, could you do me a favor and take a screenshot of how the forum looks on your end, cuz on mine it reads Xisto. When I have that, I know exactly where to look and I'll do my personal best to figure it out and hopefully fix it (or let OpaQue know where the error is)
-
Uhm for me it reads Welcome to Xisto. So you were probably looking at the Xisto forum. I don't know where you got that. Uhm... Xisto and Xisto have always been WEBHOSTS, neither just hands out space to everyone. And what do you mean with "whichever I use". If you are hosted on Xisto, then yes you can upload there, same goes if you are hosted on Xisto. But now my question? If this is a trap question, why didn't you post it there? And with "whichever" I understand you or are trying to get hosted on both, or are hosted on both. Whichever one it is.. it won't work Greetings, Moonwitch. admin

You obviously hate your life, we can't help you with that. but STOP CUSSING (using foul language - eg. pisses, sucking)

Soft plasticy banner or sig. Firstly, we're gonna open Photoshop. You can probably do this in Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro or PhotoImpact as well, but I don't own those programs (ok I do have Fireworks) so I can't be sure. Also note that the graphics used are scaled, sometimes I used lower settings to keep the file size down. Make a new Document, of your desired size. Bear in mind when choosing the size that you will be putting a slogan, logo or whatever in there and that it has to be in proportion. I opted for 1024x200 because I wanted a nice webbanner. Now you face a choice... The color. Choose your color wisely, but if you don't like it, you can easily change it It's just the background layer that's colored to be honest. With your color chosen, "Flood Fill" your canvas with that color. Now make a new layer, set your foreground color to white and use your "Brush" to make white dots on the edges of your canvas. That should give you : Change the blending mode to soft light, if you feel the effect is not strong enough, you can hit Ctrl+J and duplicate the layer. Now you should have something like this : The next step may sound complex, but I don't always follow the easiest route. Make a new layer again, you still have white as foreground color and select the "Rectangle Tool" (Shapes part). This you will have to set to Path which is done in the area just below the menubar. You can now make a rectangle that covers about 75% from the top to bottom. Then you right click on the area you've just made a path, and select "Make Selection" (this works with the rectangle selection tool as well, but the goal of a tutorial is to learn new things). Now you will see the marching ants on your canvas You will now fill the selection with a Gradient Foreground to transparent, the "Gradient" hides under the "Paint Bucket", again at the top of everything you can select which gradient, use your dropdown box to select, "Foreground Color to Transparent". Then you click and drag the mouse vertically STRAIGHT (very important) to about 25% past the selection ants, this will ensure that your gradient fill looks good. Change the opacity to about 40%, if you want to increase the effect, hit Ctrl+J and move that layer up a little bit. Now I have added my text in several layers, the name/logo can be quite big in WHITE (do not use a lot of colors in this, it will turn a nice smooth banner/sig into plain ugly trash), set the opacity to about 29%. Make sure you use a pixel font, or something NON serif, stick to terminal font like. This just isn't the graphic to use a curly font I added another layer for a small slogan, or something witty and made that smaller and less transparent (opacity about 55% or even more. This should be smaller in font size as well. Last thing I did, was add a swirl, curl, wave thing to it, to have some sort of canvas filling. If you don't like the background color, you can easily change it by Flood Filling the background layer with another color. Here's my original : And the same with a different background color :

My New System which will be mine on July 5th
moonwitch1405241479 replied to moonwitch1405241479's topic in Hardware Workshop
Oh DOH me, I forgot to say that qwiji. LOL..Basically I added a DVD RW Dual layer to it as well, the total price with screen is 942EURO. which is 624 quid and $1139I can hardly wait, I just wish I could sleep for a week, actually I want it to be July 5th LOLThe screen I chose was no longer in stock, which means that it would take til late july to get it. So I opted for a different monitor, on advice of OpaQue and M^e. I chose the Neovo F417, which is a 17" TFT monitor. Ok, it's only 17", but a 19" CRT only has 18" viewable, so this is not too bad. The cool thing is that I saved 50€. -
There used to be more packages, both here and on Xisto. They were all limited to just 2 packages, this to simplify the hosting applications and server administration. What we are giving you, is a package worth 30 bucks a year per member. If we would upgrade bandwidth (which has been upgraded recently btw) or diskspace, it would mean that we are unable to provide these services to everyone who applies. It would also mean a much stricter application process and higher requirements. This has been suggested many times before and is not very doable. Now on a more personal answer...I have well over 200 credits. I have the standard package. I stay active not because I want more and more, but because I like talking to everyone, I've learned a lot here and keep on learning new things. I see the being active as an opportunity to meet new people and expand my knowlegde on subjects. To help where I can and to ask for help when I am stuck.

Actually, you DO know what boys and girls are. A baby "knows" a lot right after birth, they just haven't learnt spoken/written language. Babies communicate by visuals, sounds and later on phonetics. See, even small children have a form of sexuality. But they don't "know" it the way we as adults do. They haven't experienced lust, sex drive, etc. They merely experience small pleasant touches (which is a fact in the development psychology - Freud, Yung, and some dude whose name I can not remember - You go through several phases in your "growing up". Eg. The anal phase, where the child discovers that part of its body and the secretion, the genital phase, where the child discovers the difference in gender (this is around 3 or younger even). We have things called, the Oedipus complex, where the boy "falls in love " with his mother and thus mimics the father. Or for the girls the Electra complex. These are events that naturally occur with most children (even children in same sex households - where there usually is a more feminine character and more masculine character) All these events, phases are essential for a young child and lead eventually to the discovery of their own sexuality and sexual preferences. For EVERYTHING in our bodies and lives, there are several factors. Biological factors (genes being part of this), enviromental factors (including financial status, family situation etc) and social factors (friends etc, ever noticed how kids start going to school and suddenly know a tun of foul language?). Being gay/homosexual/lesbian/bisexual is merely partial genetic, partial environment and partial peer pressure. I would like to add a few things, which may come to a shock to some . I may not have a very broad knowledge about BDSM (Bondage, Dominance, submissive, masochism OR bondage, dominant sado masochism) SM, sadomasochism, D/s Dominance/submission, Gor (stricter more structural form of D/s BDSM based on a series of books). It's wrong to think that this only happens in same sex relationships, promiscuious people etc. I know just as much "straight" folks practicing this as I know gay or bi people in the D/s world. I even know several poly amourous relationships who live D/s 24/7. So kinky or not is no factor in your sexual preference, kink is determined by what you and your partner like. Hi there LOLNow, I actually agree with you mostly. I realize how I felt while talking to a friend about her sexuality. LOL. Ok given that we ended up dating and that we broke up, it did make me realize a lot. I would like to add that sometimes past trauma's/problems also have a huge influence on your sexuality. But due to the rating I prefer to not go into this part too deeply. We don't wanna shock everyone , now do we? Basically, it's how YOU feel about YOURSELF and OTHERS. And how YOU feel good about you. Nothing more to it.

My New System which will be mine on July 5th
moonwitch1405241479 replied to moonwitch1405241479's topic in Hardware Workshop
Giniu, how does this sound? Windows will be preinstalled on a 60GB Partition, another 60GB Partition will be made and is left solely for Linux I don't do video editting just yet, the main idea behind this pc is to have a good base for later upgrades, which definately include a bigger slave HD And probably a second screen and new video card. But thanks for the comments everyone :lol:My current system is a laptop which heats up soo fast now, I can't keep it cool. (PII 333MHz, 12GB HD, 256MB RAM IB Thinkpad 390E) so I do need this new machine and earned it after saving money and working on this dinosaur for 3 yrs. -

First of all, every blessed child of bits and print plates needs eyes, thus a screen. I opted for a CRT monitor, mainly because the response time of LCD/TFT is too slow to my liking and the prices are unreal still here. I also read several reviews saying that colors can be distorted on a TFT screen, which is not the case with CRT. After some peeking around and counting money (believe me, budget was an essential element in my choices) I opted for a ViewSonic G90F - B. This is a monitor from the Graphic Series, which is designed for people who are not professionals, but work with graphics often (or gamers ). The B just means I chose the black version, which will simply look nice with my case. My beast's skin is plain and simple, I chose a CompuCase, which apparently is a German brand. THe case has silencer stuff built in which ensures a quiet computer (or so I hope). My reason for this is simple, I hardly ever turn off my computer and sleep in the same room (my office is my bedroom LOL) so quietness is handy. For the pic, see attachment. THe speakers you see, are Ozaki 2.1 Speakers, which come with the system. Speakers are not that important, I only use em for DUH music. But don't do editting so I don't need the huge 7.1 sets. Of course, every beast has to have some beauty under it's skin. I'll list the main specs Because I am beyond happy about this. AMD Athlon64 3400+ Maxtor 120GB HD 7200RPM 1024MB DDR@400MHz RAM Dolby 7.1 Channel sound card NIC card (of course) Radeon 9250 128MB Graphics card, wih double VGA out. CD-ROM, CD-Writer, Floppy and probably DVD writer Dual layer 6 x USB2 5 x PCI Game-Midi port Win XP Pro I am aware of the fact that it's not the best out there, but I am quite happy with these specs, since I have a very limited budget, with the monitor this only costs me 900€. That's practically nothing. -
A Solution For Disabled Right Click On Web Page
moonwitch1405241479 replied to soleimanian's topic in Software
I know of at least 2 easier methods than this, of course it depends on what is used to disable right-click. Method 1. Highlight the text, by dragging the mouse over it while holding the LEFT mouse button down. Press Ctrl+C Method 2. Again highlight the text. (dragging the mouse over it with left mousebutton down) Leave the text highlighted, do not click on the document, but go to Edit -> Copy -
Is Unbuntu Linux Any Good For Beginners?
moonwitch1405241479 replied to organicbmx's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've used Ubuntu, I think that for a newbie to Linux Ubuntu is good, even though my personal recommendation is Kubuntu (when you're at the log in screen, click on session and select KDE). I started using Fedora Core 3 and loved that distro to pieces, but then again that's because FC is the follow up of Red Hat Personal. Anyhow, Ubuntu you say. It's a fairly new distro, so of course it has a few flaws, minor things though. One recommendation for ANY LINUX DISTRO : When you're using a PCI soundcard and your sound is all distorted, go into your BIOS (F8 or something - it says which key(s) you need to press on boot up) and make sure PCI Power Management is DISABLED! Took me a long time to figure that one out.Other then that, Ubuntu is nice. For me, I've used Linux (Red Hat) for 3 yrs solely and then switched to a dual boot, and now solely in Win due to a too small HD, that made Ubuntu too "small" for me. I missed some key features I had in Red Hat. My best advice is to check the Ubuntu forums (https://ubuntuforums.org/ if I am not mistaken) and read up on Ubuntu itself. I found the Fedora Core installer nicer for beginners than the Ubuntu one, actually Ubuntu has a more text based installer, whereas FC has fully graphical. Also Ubuntu does NOT let you choose your packages, whereas FC allows you to do that. So if you want more control over what gets installed while setting up the distro, go for any distro but Ubuntu. Personally, I intend to try Gentoo and Debian as well :(Oh, in Ubuntu the root account is disabled/locked, which means instead of CONSOLE su -, you now have to enter CONSOLE sudo command -
wait... there's a world?????OMG, I thought there was NOTHING outside of this computer. I vaguely remember being small and something called a bike and swimming. mmm... Is there sucj as thing as books? Or is it just a word I invented? No seriously, the world, outside of my comp, pfft. I watch the news ON COMP. LOL, I surf to the Belgian News site and that's it

Astahost's New Look... The forums new look...
moonwitch1405241479 replied to Tobias's topic in Websites and Web Designing
OK, I've said this before and I'll say it again. We are working on getting the skins sorted. Mainly because the site was upgraded, we have to reinstall all extra's Xisto's old board had. This means a huge workload. We are aware of 90% of the problems, we do greatly appreciate any members input The Credits Hosting section is now back on top (we had some issues and wanted it back on top - which took some work)Now I am going offline because my baby sister is sick and I am going to try and have her rest some. -
Where Can I Find My Hosting Credit?
moonwitch1405241479 replied to Nqon's topic in General Discussion
The skins are currently being rebuilt to have all the features the "old" Xisto used to have, this will take a day or so. I've just put up the basic greyish default since the standard default theme got messed up badly. Not all is working 100%, but it willl be fixed asap. For the moment I need sleep, it's 3.30AM where I am and I have been cleaning all day. Date of writing : June 14th .. CET (central european time) One of the admins will post it when all skins are functioning exactly as they should. I do apologize for the current inconvienence. -
Hehehe, I am going to like this guy m^e And m^e, you don't need to act like you mind Linux eating you alive LOL... You love every bit of Linux, as do I (but I just can't live without Photoshop)You'll love the IRC room (irc://irc.dalnet.com channel #Xisto) YungBlood, I like your name LOL... IRC never really had my ultimate love, I enjoy TALKING too much, I use MSN for voice chat, and if I want to be left alone 2 people I know have access to Netmeeting So yeah, I like to talk LOL.

Question's About Hosting At Astahost
moonwitch1405241479 replied to jerre's topic in Web Hosting Support
Judging on your signature image, you're Dutch. If you have some issue to explain something in English, you can pm me. I am Belgian :(You can't *freeze* your hosting account to prevent your credits from dropping when you can't post. That is why we recommend you keep your credits (or hosting days) over 7, so that in case you get sick, you have 7 days to start posting. The solution for this, is simple. Just posts so that you have enough credits to cover the amount of days you'll be gone. In my case, I will be at the Coast for a week next week, so I make sure I have at least 8 or 9 credits, that way my account will not get suspended You can only upgrade your package and not downgrade it.
