  1. flip the CPU cooler over if it's blowing down the heat-sink hehe... blowing on to it shouldn't be much of a difference (talking about table fan) because that means air hits the board and disperses sideways cooling the rest of the components inside the case
  2. OK so you are a heavy user... for you and a lot (if not all) of other PC Linux Power Users Tablet won't be ideal... but if you consider all Computer Users in this world and age, what is the proportion of them being a Power User? I'm pretty sure it's not as much as casual users - this means for a lot of casual users they would find tablet and mobile devices adequate for their need... so maybe (in my opinion)... Linux Devs are considering that share of the market and hoping that with casual users so use to mobile layout... it wouldn't be so hard to use their Distribution
  3. how does it crash? on start-up? or are there certain pages you visit that provokes the crash? ... it would help us help you if you detail you're crash a bit more, cheers
  4. yea... if ever this technology becomes usable, it won't be anytime soon hehe.... it's good to see forward movement in research in a positive and green direction
  5. I don't know about a thread but I'm just curious about how quick the MyCent system is operating? I Wonder if it's possible to get mycents updates in real-time
  6. I'm upgrading my CPU to run VMware 8... now my two choices are Core 2 Duo E6400 vs E6600I notice that the E6400 has 2MB L2 Cache running at 2.13Ghz where as E6600 has 4MB L2 Cache running at 2.4GHzI most probably will be running no more than 3 or 4 VMware Machines so my question is, would the 4MB L2 Cache and extra 300MHz have much noticeable gain in performance?
  7. ensure enough (or a lot) airflow, and as mentioned above a quick whip of some fresh thermal paste definitely will have an impact... but if you can get hold of a bigger cooler... for example - Evercool Buffalo Cooler has been serving my P4 3.2 Ghz well for sometime now another cheap (Free if you hav fan) is to use a table fan. open one side panel of you're PC and sit a table fan facing the CPU so it blows straight into it
  8. Do you mean to heavily type on a tablet like on a keyboard? Tablets and Touch-Screens devices are getting better and better with responsiveness and durability.... i don't think typing on it a lot will shorten the devices responsive lifespan... most Touch devices these days are quite durable, but are meant for users to be gentle on then as well... I've had my iPhone 4 for a wee while now and it's still going strong, i text message a lot - a whole lot more than typing on Computer... i play Games a lot on it too... Street Fighter, Modern Combat, Asphalt 6 etc... I've had it for over 6 months now... i don't see any difference in responsiveness on the Touch Screen And tablets are not to replace PC although it does have its effect on the Computer Market
  9. most probably CPU heat issue, is it running on-board graphics?
  10. i Agree... reason for upgrading my CPU - to run VMware 8... i think i would just do a fresh Installation...
  11. Update: Grabbed a Core 2 Duo 6400 instead... I've just re-installed Windows XP... would XP be ok just with a CPU swap? or should it be better if i just do a Fresh Installation Again after i install the Core 2 Duo?
  12. I kind of notice this too now... I've been making a few posts lately and myCents seem to be frozen, are they doing some work on the system or something?
  13. I've recently re-installed Windows XP on my PC and as usual, i always install VLC, Winamp, uTorrent, Foxit Reader, iTunes, MagicDisc, Google Chrome, Opera etc...while installing some of those programs, like Winamp, Foxit Reader, uTorrent they ask if i would like to install toolbars which probably has something to do with their sponsors or something (my guess)...now i always opt out of it... but when i fire up IE they always pop up on the top... why do these programs install these toolbars against my selection and preference?or maybe i don't really read the installation instructions properly?
  14. yes actual machines but with Linux HTTP Server running Wordpress... i don't know why and right now i don't have the time to try and do some research on the issue...
  15. hehe you are right... i was using another PC with IE... but yea here at home on Opera it displayed them highlighted by default
  16. i have actually tried Elementary OS... my first impression was pretty much a WOW WOW... but then when i tried to do something on it, i was like - CRAP CRAP hehe... it isn't as polished as Gnome or KDE because it is more focused on Lightness and speed... if you want polished desktop environment then stick with Gnome... if you want speed the i suggest Xfce or Lxde hopefully its development gets good support because its has a very nice layout or theme to it.... at the moment in my opinion, that's the only good thing about it hehe...
  17. Just got this Geforce 9600GT http://www.guru3d.com/ going to hunt around for a good passive CPU cooler as well... so use to using laptop now decided to make my PC just as silent... now I've decided to upgrade my CPU from the current P4 540 HT 3.2GHz... so i'm wondering on you guys opinion between these two CPUs:Core 2 Duo E4400 or Pentium D 930my Mainboard is an ASUS P5L-VM1394
  18. judging from the name, I presume this is a CMS called JohnCMS... what is it actually? a CMS like phpBB, Inspire etc... or something else?
  19. Are there Registrars that doesn't allow Domain transferring out from it's registry?
  20. is having multiple accounts allowed?
  21. Transfer has been completed and also learned a few things on the process...NOW it's time to do some real hard-core posting to pay-off my loan and keep up with fees hehe
  22. I realise with the new Gmail theme, the inbox don't have highlighted unread messages... can someone tell me how can I make my Unread Messages on my Inbox highlighted...
  23. installing another OS on smart phones is still quite a mission let alone if possible... but in time smart mobile devices will eventually be like PCs - OS independent... by then we can install whatever mobile OS we like
  24. an OS main and maybe sole purpose is a layer for Application Software to work on or link with the hardware... so if an OS doesn't have many applications built to play on it then it's just another useless OS...
  25. i admit at first glance it seems like a very very elegant OS but it's very buggy... it seems quite similar to Xubuntu... if you like Elementary, i recommend you try Xubuntu 11.10... but hey 12.04 is just around the corner hehe
