  1. I've been using IE 7 for a while. It certainly is a big improvement from IE 6 and if they fixed security issues I wouldn't mind using it as my main browser but it still has a lot of security issues. I read that in this new beta there is supposed to be improved memory handling that is better than firefox. I haven't noticed any difference between this beta and the last one. But it sure is comming together nicely.
  2. The transfer speed would have to be pretty amazing if tv quality shows were to be streamed on to a television live. You would probably need a dedicated T3 line or greater for HD channels. Because of this the quality probably isn't close to cable. The reason I watch shows on the TV opposed to on the computer is that it is much more enjoyable to watch something on a 42 inch display rather than a 19 inch display and you wouldn't have to wait for anything to download.
  3. I'm a person who spends almost all of his free time on the computer. Quite often I do get bored and I find myself without things to do. When this happens I take a break from the internet for a few weeks. During this time I catch up on other stuff in life. When I feel like going back onto the internet again there is a lot of new content for me to check out and I am much more relaxed.
  4. It's great that these things are getting thinner but is it really necessary? LCD displays are already pretty thin. I can't really think of any use for these new ones over the old ones. It's just going to cost more. In a lot of electronics space isn't an issue for LCD displays. I think it would be better if they spent the time on building parts that use less electricity, smaller processors, smaller storage devices, etc.
  5. It would be nice if Microsoft were to update ms paint. It hasn't changed much for quite a few years. The only use I have for it is the paste screenshots for saving. The only thing I like about it is that it's quick to load. I find it very difficult to work in ms paint because there isn't much that you can do in it other than draw shapes and text of different color and shapes.
  6. I wouldn't mind using a fingerprint system if it worked accurately. I would rather use my fingerprint rather than a credit card because it's easier. I prefer whatever is more convenient if it is as secure. However, if this were to become the credit card replacement there would probably people who would make fake fingerprints. I rather have an eye scan because it would be a lot more difficult replicate the textures, dimensions and color in the eye. Also, I'm guessing the technology to read fingerprints or to scan the eye would cost quite a bit more than a credit card reader right now so it probably wouldn't become widely used any time soon.
  7. Animal cruelty is terrible. It kills me to see this kind of stuff happening. I think governments should have greater punishments for this kind of thing. Two days is far from enough time in prision. If people can't afford to take care of animals they shouldn't get them in the first place. The absolute most terrible thing I have ever seen is animals being skinned. In a video animals get smashed just enough so they are unable to move then the skins get ripped off while they are still alive. It was absolutly disgusting. Watching it made my heart sink and at the same time infuriated me knowing that there are people that could do such a thing. Here is the link to do the video described in the paragraph above: *I must warn everyone that the contents of the video is extreamly graphic.* http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-for-clothing/fur/animals-used-fur/
  8. I've seen that advertisement before. I think it's quite stupid but the majority of the viewers should be able to see right through the ad and into the truth. What I'm worried about with these ads is that children may actually take them into consideration. It's not surprising that oil companies would try and pull something like this. They are a multi-billion dollar industry and they are trying to protect their investment.
  9. I've had terrible experience with window versions older than XP. For me XP has been very stable. I hear that ME is one of the worst. The problems you are facing could be caused by viruses, spyware or instability of the operating system. I suggest backing up everything that you need and formating your computer to a different operating system. If linux alternatives are available for the programs you are using then I suggest installing linux after you format (my personal recommendation for a distro is Ubuntu). If you want to stick with windows then I would suggest buying a copy of windows xp. If you choose to stick with windows then don't forget to install an anti-virus program and anti-spyware program right after windows is installed.
  10. I wouldn't say that your taste buds are changing but rather your brain that is changing. The taste of sugar has always been the same for me but I used to prefer eating candies and chocolate more back then than I do now. It wouldn't not be surprising if during puberty that your preference in food changes because it is a time when your brain undergoes many changes.
  11. This seems like a joke. I have never heard anything of it. From an interview I read regarding bill gates' typical work day is that the majority of his time is spent reading and responding to his e-mail on a dual monitor set-up. I don't see why bill gates would need a modified version of windows. Also, naming it after yourself would be strange.
  12. Currently I use google personalized homepage. It works as a great homepage for me because I usually make around 20 searches a day and all I have to do is click the home button instead of typing in the google address. Also, I like how the page can be easily customized to add the things you want. I added feeds from many of the sites I visit on a daily basis so I can see the new content right from google personalized homepage instead of actually going to the site. It also shows how many new emails I have in gmail which is very convenient.
  13. This sounds like another government conspiracy theory. The technology probably does exist to read text from two miles away but that alone wouldn't be enough. You don't use a computer in the middle of nowhere. There are tons of obstacles that would prevent someone from watching your monitor within a two mile radius. You have walls, other houses, trees, etc. If you are paranoid about it just move your monitor away from the windows.
  14. I would like to go to the E3 as well but from what I have heard the only way to get in there is to either work there or be a member of the media. I as well have seen a lot of video and press coverage. I am most impressed by the Nintendo Wii. It seems that it was the big attraction this year.
  15. What you are referring to is a perpetual motion machine. Theoretically it is a device the produces as much energy as it consumes. So if there were to be such a device it would be able to run forever. But there is no such thing as a perpetual motion machine. To build a perpetual motion device you would need at least 100% efficiency. If it is not at least 100% efficient it would have to defy the conservation of energy law which states that the total amount of energy in a closed system remains constant. Many people have claimed they built one but the scientific community has never been able to verify such a device.
  16. I personally think that there is no need for this new format. There are already plenty of good formats and I haven't encountered problems with them. The improvments microsoft can offer seem minor. Also, It's probably going to be released under a very restrictive license. I have no plans on using the new image format unless it becomes the standard.
  17. I also dislike those ads. I remember seeing those sites a long time ago and everyone back then thought they were scam sites trying to collect user information. Once it was in the media that the sites were actually sending out free ipods people flooded them to sign up. I don't see why the site is still being promoted. People should just give it up now. Everyone who would have signed up has already signed up.
  18. My friends always turn to me when they run into computer problems and being vague really bugs me. They want me to help fix a problem yet they can't even describe their problem. I can't ever tell what they are talking about from their description. Also, they are constantly convinced they have a virus when their software isn't working correctly but then it turns out to be a configuration problem. Perhaps I should make my friends learn some terminology before helping them with their problems.@paul the correct term to remove software is uninstall although people will probably understand what you mean if you said de-install.
  19. I was on that site a long time ago. I signed up for it because it was pretty easy to get a pair of rings. All you had to do was send some visitors to the site. It took over a year to have them shipped over and when I got them they didn't really do anything. But at least I have 4 pretty strong magnets to use for whatever I want.
  20. I would turn him in. Not for the reward but rather because I believe it is the right thing to do. There is no point in protecting a killer and there is no point in being friends with a killer. If they had a reason for killing someone then let the court deal with it.
  21. I've been following the development for windows vista for a while. On the user-end it doesn't seem like they have added very much. Just a GUI change and a few small things here and there. The jump from windows 98 to XP was really impressive, not so much from XP to vista.Microsoft Office 2007 on the other hand had a lot of great improvements in my opinion. I really like the new version, although with all the changes in the user-interface it is going to take me a while to get used to it.
  22. I've seen this car quite a few times on the television. The creator is really optimistic about the project and expects the skycar to become widely used in only a few years. The skycar is very neat but imagine if normal cars were to be replaced by these, the entire sky would be filled with high speed vehicles. At the speeds it can travel it would probably be difficult to control and accident rates would probably go up.
  23. This may end up helping a lot of people by preventing obesity which in turn would reduce the deaths caused by heart failures and other obesity related problems. However, certain religions will probably be protesting this kind of thing. I personally have nothing against genetic engineering and cloning.
  24. I saw this earlier on youtube and I was very impressed. Image quality doesn't seem to be very good but the fact that it is projected into mid-air is really impressive. Even if these were the price of normal monitors I don't think I would purchase one because of the blurry images. However, if the quality got better I could really see this being used for movies and games.
  25. I have been following nuclear fusion for a while. To me it really seems like it is the solution to many of the earths problems. There are many benefits. With it you could end polution and bring power to developing countries. Hopefully nuclear fusion reactions will be completed soon. I look forward to seeing the world when they are being used.
