  1. I used to get really fustrated with them until I saw a video of a speed cuber who did it in around 20 seconds. I thought to myself there has to be an easier way to do these if someone was able to do them in 20 seconds and there was. I spent some time looking for solutions and now I average 2 minutes to solve a cube. World record is around 10 seconds. There are many solutions out on the web to solve the rubiks cube. For the fast methods you have to memoize upwards of 100 algorithms which will allow you to solve the cube in just a few seconds and there are solutions for beginners where you only have to memorize 20 or 30 algorithms which will allow you to solve the cube in minutes. For beginers I recommed this site: http://peter.stillhq.com/jasmine/rubikscubesolution.html For moderate speed cubers looking to go up a level I recommend this site: http://lar5.com/cube/
  2. Phishing is when scammers use a reputable name in order to try and trick you into submitting sensitive information to them. Common phishing schemes are websites that look indential to the official one that steal your password when you try and log-in. This is why it is very important to watch the URL and check SSL certificates. It is an important skill to be able to identify phishing sites and emails.
  3. Where I live marks alone are enough to get you into local universities. However, if you are looking for scholarships then you have to do a lot of volunteering. The entrance average for university here is so high that they if they gave scholarships for marks alone then most people would get them. The organizations that give out scholarships are looking at what you have contributed to the community to determine if you get the funding or not.
  4. If you are talking about commercial files then definately the best way to get it is to buy it. The other options listed in the polls were meant to share files legally. However, that is often not the case.I think torrents are the next best way to get legal files. It allows for high speeds because you are connected to many computers which also means the bandwidth use on each indiviual computer is much lower than if they were to just send it alone. Another benefit of this is that you aren't dependant on one person. Unlike a lot of other sharing methods torrents are secure because it checks the file. This means the things you download are much less likely to corrupt. Also, there are a lot of great torrent clients out there to choose from.
  5. I visit youtube quite a bit every day. I agree that there are a lot of pointless videos on youtube but there are many good videos as well. It's a nice site to drop by when you're looking for entertainment or want to pass the time. Also, it's a great host if you need some place to put your videos.
  6. Nose hairs are very important in order to be protected from dust and bateria. It acts as a filter before air can get into the rest of the respiratory system. Without nose hairs it is likely that you would be sick more often.@AnGeL KiSS: Actually, "boogers" are just mucus (usually solidified mucus) and not dust. It is produced in mucous membranes found in the nose. However, it usually does contain dust and bateria.
  7. I am waiting for google to release google wallet to the public. If it works like paypal then I will switch. I've been waiting for a paypal alternative after all the negative things I have heard about them. Google is always innovating new things and I'm curious to see what features google wallet will have.
  8. I needed a new USB drive so I went out and purchased a 1GB cruzer mini because they were on sale. I don't think there is really much advantage over any other USB drives. It just looks nice and lights up when plugged in.
  9. Solor power is great but it's really expensive. I have seen quite a few solar panels to power small electronics but where I live it costs around $100 Canadian for a small solar panel that only provides 1.5 to 3 volts of electricity. At that price I rather just buy some rechargeable batteries. If the prices were a bit cheaper, perhaps at $50 or so I might get one.
  10. I agree that over printing 400 sheets is a waste of paper but I don't believe this is a common occurance in many school. In my experience teachers are stict when it comes to paper usage. Also, I wouldn't consider printing crossword puzzles to be a complete waste of paper. It still is an activity and you are still doing something with the paper. What I think it a waste is only using one side of a sheet of paper. If people used both sides they could cut down paper usuage in half. I've seen a lot of notebooks where only one side is used.
  11. When you sign up for beta you can expect these kind of things. Live Mail works just fine for me on internet explorer. I really dislike how they have disabled many features for other browsers.
  12. I have hay fever too and I also hate it. I only started having hay fever about two years ago. I now take eye drop and nasal sprays and they work fine for me. I have a pretty good air filter in my home so even if I don't take a medication I don't have hay fever symptoms indoors, only when I go outside. If the medication isn't working for you perhaps you should get a powerful air filter and just stay indoors as much as you can.
  13. I wouldn't say that there will be no hotmail since this is hotmail under a different name. You still have an @hotmail.com e-mail address. In my opinion I don't think that the windows live mail is any better than gmail and it seems a little too plain to me.
  14. I don't think those types of sites are very effective for advertising with the exception of the original. People purchased ad space on the original site because it was unique, no one had come up with this idea before. Also, the original site had a lot of publicity from all sorts of media. Now there are so many of these clones on the web that interest has been lost.
  15. Personally I find that the best way to make new friends is from existing friends. Whenever you go out somewhere with your friend have him/her invite someone to come along that you don't know. It's really easy to start up a conversation with these people. By doing this you can quickly build a large network of friends in no time.
  16. Blueray and HD-DVD have been in development for so long and soon I will be able to get my hands on them. Originally my plan was going to purchase a player for both of them but since Bluray is quite expensive I might just stick with HD-DVD when it comes out and get Bluray later when the price drops.

    Rising Gas Prices!

Yes the gas prices are high but I think it is a good thing. With the issue of global warming it is becomming increasingly important that we reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It seems to me that a lot of people are selfish and would destory the environment just to save a few dollars. The high gas prices provides these type of people with a personal motivation to switch to alternatives methods of transportation.
  18. I don't own an ipod nano because I don't listen to much music but a lot of people I know do own one and they love it. As far as I know the screen problem had been fixed a long time ago. It is only a problem to people who purchased them when the first came out. Also, if you are planning to purchase one in the near future I would suggest waiting because I had read that apple is releasing new ipod nanos with larger storage capacity.
  19. It certainly does seems like a unique mouse but the problems I see is that most programs don't support a mouse that works with three dimensions because they don't need to. Also, holding your arm up for even a few minutes would get very tiring and your arm would get soar very quickly if you kept moving it.
  20. I don't see anything wrong with people talking about runescape or any other game, it's just like talking about anything else like sports or tv, I talk with my friends about world of warcraft all the time. Runescape is not a bad way to entertain yourseIf every once in a while. I used to play a bit of runescape myself but stopped because I got bored of it. If you don't like people talking about runescape then just ignore them.
  21. I think it is worth the pricetag if not even more. Ferries carry a lot of people and it is important to prevent any futher accidents which the computer data could help to do. Also, ferries themselves cost a lot of money to construct. In my opinion $500,000 is a small price to pay to potentially save hundreds of lives and protect a multi-million dollar investment.
  22. Game requiresments keep increasing as a massive rate. What alienware provides now may seem more than you need but in a few months it might become outdated. WIth alienware computer you can be sure that at the time of buying you are a getting top of the line gaming system but in my opinion the computers are overpriced. I think it's better to build your own system, although I do like their cases.
  23. I have been seeing those ads everywhere on the internet lately. My concern is the audience that are exposed to them. I noticed that a lot of game sites that display those type of ads and I'm guessing there are many children viewing them. Who knows how these things will affect children in the future.
  24. My sister got a slvr, it's incredably thin. One of the nicest phones out there in my opinion. It's really expensive though. I think she paid around $600 or $700 Canadian for it. Why someone would want to pay so much for a cellphone is beyond me.
  25. I've been hearing about this a few times every month. I've also been hearing about it in the news lately. Seems like it's just one of those ideas that have really taken off. When I saw the site when he was just starting I didn't think that he would reach his goal of trading up to a house. However, now with all this publicity it might actually happen.
