I was going to give a close friend of mine a database so he could use it to install nucleus to his website. So I configures everything through cpanel, made a new database, user and all that. Afterwards I added his domain's ip addresses and actually every IP address in the subnet using the "%" operand as was written. However we still couldn't have nucleus to install. after we enter all the information to the installer it says for example something along the lines of:"katrina.aplushosting.com" is not allowed to connect to this MySQL databseIs this feature there but turned off to prevent other sites nicking from Xisto MySQL?Or is it not working?Or am I missing something?I do remember it working some time ago though, when I ran a forum script from another site for a day or two till I migrated the whole thing to Xisto...

external memory? yeah right...I would see if the store can take back the 256 modules you have and give a discount on 2x512 modules. You can use a program called CPU-Z to identify what memory your system is currently using. As for the pins, it is probably a 200pin SO-DIMM. but depending on how old it is, it could be a 144pin SO-DIMM. The 200s are used for DDR and the 144s are used for SDR laptop memory, although I think there is now DDR2 memory as well. You'll need to check with the manufacturer to confirm.

Two New Sponsored Top-level Domains .JOBS .TRAVEL
alperuzi replied to lionel's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well, actually all the "dots" are so out of fashion now, I don't see why they don't get rid of them alltogether. Then addresses could be simply words or sentences, and it would be way more modern -
oh wait, you can't... bugger, someone turned off editing!

can't you edit the first post instead of having two links now???

I even used to leave my laptops running, they make great servers, I tell you there is nothing wrong with leavin them on.It is actually much healthier if you leave them on. When you switch on a computer you instantly surge all circuits with electricity, and failures usually happen at those critical moments of powering on or off. Its just like most lightbulbs fail when you are switching them on.Laptops are actually much better in this effect since they always have a battery to regulate the voltage. But still, there is nothing wrong with leaving desktops on.

I jump to the program recommendations bandwagon, the best movie player out there by any means is probably Media Player Classic, can be found here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/

Each channel is assigned to a device.Pretty much all devices use DMA. DMA's don't have multiple channels... because a DMA (Direct Memory Access) is a process, not a physical thing. It involves the CPU setting up a transaction line between a initiator and a target and then forget about the transaction itself rather than passing every word one by one. A system has like 12 DMA channels, and each goes to a device (this is transparent nowadays, since USB and PCI-Express work in much more sophisticated ways).DMA is used in block transfers. What is a block transfer? An example is like a graphics adapter which requests whole sections of memory at once, or harddisks which read and write in blocks rather than one byte at a time (gee, that would take forever). So what is done? The device or the CPU tells how many blocks it needs, tells the address of the blocks and then then as a response after a number of clock cyles starts receiving the data staight from the memory or writes straight to the memory.Things like mice, keyboard don't use DMA, since they need to generally transfer a few bytes of information every second.UDMA2-3-4-5 is just increase in bandwidths between harddisk and physical memory. This enables faster transaction between the two. On the other hand, graphics cards and such can access physical memory at much faster speeds (since they are not disks). These are usually synchronized to some clock unlike IDE lines for harddisks (PCI clock is 33Mhz, 66 for AGP, 133 for AGP2x, 266 for AGP 4x...)Okay, that was kinda long... sry, just wrote the final for this course, and it was waay too long too... couldn't finish it... I'll shut up now

the maximum length for a varchar in mySQL is 255I would use a Text field, which has a limit of 65,000 bytesbut I don't know if the forum script you use will support that, you may need to edit the scripts too.

oh, btw, PCs always have had multiple DMA channels... I think there are like 10-12 of them. In the days before PlugNPlay you used to assign every device a DMA channel manually
-
Not sure what you mean by multiple or super DMA, all devices which do block transfers today use DMA, they have to... otherwise there would be way too much congestion of the CPU.What you guys usually hear advertised is harddisks using DMA, but in truth devices like the graphics adapters, even ethernet adapters use DMA...With Serial ATA all the UDMA madness have stopped...

well, yeah... thats probably because China is the largest country by population in the world and even though Japan is high tech, it would not stand a chance. Also the Japanese army is under strict control by NATO as far as I know... I think they have limits and such...

Well yesterday I noticed something incrdible. I was building a new forum with a friend and when we were done he said, "who is this third person online? Did you tell this to anyone yet?" I hadn't, so sent me the IP of the people in the online list and guess what, it was me, him and Google... probably like 10 minutes into the finished forum... 8)

You should also add a vs CryEngine to the end of the title there. As you put, they all have their ups and downs. The D3 engine provides some amazing graphics, and comes from the experts at Id Software. They pretty much wrote the book for FPS games. What I liked about the source was the detail put into each character. The facial expressions were very well done as well as the ragdoll effects. The CryEngine renders the best environment I have seen in a computer game yet. The beaches, jungle, foliage, dense trees, extremely far viewing range. This engine is just amazing.Overall I don't have a favorite though. They are all good in their own area and diversity is good, makes for some original and fun gaming experience. Kudos to those who spend time and effort to bring this technology to us.

CTRL-S should be your friend... best friend...I hit it instinctively after half a page or so of writing...

They just couldn't bring in enough originallity to the game. If you play doom1, doom2, doom3 you are basically playing the same game, but in different levels of technology. All you need to know is that you go in a room, kill everyone in it, find a button or key, then do into the next room, repeat. Sorry, but after three games plus a bunch of quake in between its no fun anymore.

Sorry if you thought it was an insult, but all these "reports" of AMD CPUs burning down are rumors and even paid advertising on the part of intel. I mean the only burnt AMD I know of is when Toms took out the heatsink while it was running. Now seriously, who on earth will run a CPU full throttle without active or pasive cooling?

I used to like photoshop, but the thing is peoplel get used to it, all the terminology it uses and then switching is really a pain. I recently switched to Corel PhotoPaint 12 and its just awesome, it can do everything photoshop can do and more. So my favorite is Corel PhotoPaint which comes in the Corel Draw package.Ulead Photoimpact was pretty good too, I used to use it years ago and it was a viable replacement to Photoshop. One thing I would reccomend is to stay clear of Paint Shop Pro, I've found that the latest version is full of bugs

those USB2.0 enclosures for laptop harddisks seem to be pretty good, you can get like a portable 80gig drive!
-
A computer with those specs would be less than $500 US I believe.

Computers are designed to be on 24/7, there is no problem in leaving them on unless your fans or PSU die. Therefore it is recommended that you clean your fans and the dust buildup regularly, like once every 3-4 months.

I used to play the clarinet, that was many years ago. I think I played for two years and then quit because they fired our head of music department. He was a really cool guy.

I know of hundreds of people who run computer repair shops, computer store or other computer related endeavors and have no clue what they are doing/talking about.Athlon being cheaper is purely based on the fact that Intel owns the market, has relations with large corporations, and has the name. Its all down to capitalism, not the production of CPUs. If you really knew what you were talking about, you would also know that both chips get produced in the same factories in Taiwan.

Physical Graffiti is an awesome album, and some other good songs are The Song Remains the Same, When the Levee Breaks and expecially The Battle of Evermore.Have been a Zeppelin fan for about 7 years now. They are truly special.
