  1. Right behind you, thread necromancer. As soon as YOU start the unification effort. Go Bismarck! Actually, I don't know what you're talking about. SDL_mixer + OSS has been working awesome for me for a while.
  2. Wow there. That's highly specific with not enough information. Do you have some sort of driver that lets you access your storage card or are you making your own driver for it?Either way, if you're using embedded c++ (not c?) then you'd want a bool function testing the specified bit on the card. There should be an interrupt which lets you test that.
  3. run a console program (I think ubuntu has gterm, I don't remember.) cd over to the directory with the file called make which has your drivers (e.g. cd /directory/which/has/my/files) type make install. enjoy. That being said, this is something which belongs in the operating systems sub-forum.
  4. Ahh, it's been a while. I can't believe how fast these years have went or that forum explosion that came out of the blue. Either way, it's been a good ride so far.Member 2,280 back in '04. Yeah baby. :(Long live trap!
  5. Are you both insane? Back when Intel released MMX for pentium II, it rocked the socks off of everyone's 2d games that used integer calculation. AMD took the show back with 3D Now! and the ability to do floating point operations at a rate faster than a turtle when 3d games were starting to become feasible. When intel released SSE, it outperformed 3D Now! from the sheer advantage of more than double the circuitry. They've both been flying back and forth. Besides, it's the gpu that matters with gaming anyway. Now if you're talking about recent mergers and what not, then yes you're right AMD's always been better after that merger with ATI since anything Intel has made with graphics has been subpar. Buffer space? What processor has buffer space? You mean L1/L2/L3 cache memory? The recent processor lines are nearly parallel in cache requirements in the L1/L2 spectrum - differences there are just which part of the market they're trying to sell their stuff to. Larger sets of instructions don't mean anything. Future AMD chips are expected to be preferred in many encryption-heavy circles because of supposed acceleration of encryption-related computations. AMD's processors definitely have less instructions than intel's but are still wanted quite heavily. It's not quantity but quality here. @ivantoar: I'd suggest you get a quad-core (by that I mean don't get the Phenom X3 cause optimizing for three cores isn't fun at all, X4's fine) but unless you can provide more details on the chips, I can't help you more than just by saying go for the one with the lower price.
  6. Ugh.. people, this topic's been rediscussed a thousand times. If you look in the past pages of this subforum, you'll find a million sites suggested. That being said, http://www.cprogramming.com/ is a very good site. And C++ is NOT better than C. I'd like to see anyone justify that.
  7. Would YOU like to pay for a war with China? After that little Tianamen Square incident, I don't think you'd be able to put any sort of reform through that country without a gun for a while. I'm gonna go with China's not communist. Read: I assert that China's not a communist country. It's the biggest capitalist I've ever seen. Production like crazy, mistreatment and low pay for workers, development of high-class services only in certain cities (Shanghai...), and practical dumping on goods combined with other economic maneuvers (e.g. giving a 0% interest loan to South Africa which was bombed by China's growing and cheap-as-dirt textile industry). That doesn't sound like rule by the proletariat to me. This sounds like early 19th century England to me. Yeah, I'm gonna go with capitalist dictatorship. Laissez Faire Dictatorship where the country is the giant cartel of corporations.
  8. @original poster: While I do somewhat question your musical tastes (Rise Against... but that's not the point here) I do generally agree with you. However, I'd like to point out the most of rap heard is what music labels allow to publish. Now, last time I checked, most of those were run by rich, white men. Not the type who listen to rap, but those who want ??? -> profit! from it. What sells? Stereotype. Mind you, a horribly large number of listeners of rap, particularly gangsta rap are white. I'm guessing it's supposed to be a measure of coolitude. Still, it's a business, not some refined musical quality protocol signed in Paris. They will sell what brings money. Why more people don't vehemently reject this type of attitude is to me one of the world's greatest mysteries.
  9. Heresy! Trolltech shall rule the world! @seba1killer: I can criticize any piece of software at anytime, thank you, 'tis just a matter if the analysis is final or not. Yeah, 4's not as cool as 3 was. Yet. If the kde devs keep up their reputation that should change soon enough. Haven't had a chance to play with Plasma yet (been too busy going OMG! ssl FIX NOW!) but I think it's alright overall. 4.1's not in ubuntu repositories ... still.
  10. @vivek mahajan: Ok, n00b. Listen up. Do me a favor: do NOT resurrect threads that are 3 years old. It's disgusting. God knows if half of what you say is even applicable to the original poster - kid may have found a job outside of programming. If you have to spam, please don't do it in one of the few parts of the forum which have a constant logical consistency.
  11. That's downright hillarious. Also, where's the style? Tennis rackets and shoes? Really? No attempt at dvo'ing a part of the house or intricate and elaborate attempts to open the safe?Robbers nowadays...
  12. Umm... yeah. New. If 2004 software is new. It's a nice idea, but I've yet to see it beat wine or even that old Gentoo kernel mod when it comes to running Windows programs.
  13. Ah, the revolution strengthens. We should take on some reactionaries to show how cool it is. Wait... Javascript? javascript? lmao. If you don't need client-side scripting, I'm pretty sure you'll never want to need javascript.
  14. Well, that then raises the question - why on earth are you watching AFL anyway? I agree, AFL is not real football, but mind you, several variations of football have come with the history of the game. NFL's a standard we all know and love because it's a good one. There are others, but ... well, obviously they're not respected. And one thing: Really? I personally don't see much difference between playing outside and inside. Then again, I don't mind playing in rain or snow. Meh.
  15. Runescape ay? KILL IT WITH FIRE! ... I'm not exactly a fan of it.And nice thread resurrection, whoever did it.
