Antivirus most efficient antivirus software ?
alperuzi replied to spawn_syxx9's topic in General Discussion
F-secure is the best in catching stuff since it uses three different AV engines at the same time. However, it's prolly a bit of an overkill. For those who say Norton Antivirus, I would say Symantec Antivirus if you can find it somewhere. Our school distributes it free to students and it is much lower on the resource side with the same protection as Norton (and none of the eye candy). The latest 9.0 has email scanning etc, so has all the functionality of Norton. -
skype is awesome, I used it for the past two years to call back home and works perfectly. Good quality sound, easy to set up (parents don't always know how to do things!) and best of all FREE!The only thing it lacks is a webcam feature, for that I need to use MSN, but then again, nothing is ever perfect

I'm trying out slackware now (thanks to Virtual PC) and it looks great, for those who want a minimal system for servers or such, slackware looks like an excelent solution.

all winXP versions are succesors of WinNT->Win2KHome edition is just Pro with some of the advanced features cut down. There are also Server and DataCenter editions that can take many more CPUs. The Service Packs are just updates and fixes from MS combined into one package. They began with NT, and then spread along the line all the way to XP.

International Baculauruate Is it recognisable in ur country??

ok, the guy to ask about IB is me, because I graduated with that program. Now, the following info may be outdated a little as they keep changing IB, but here it goes anyway.First of all, it is very useful. But that is, if the school actually offers most of the courses needed. To get the diploma, you need 3 high level and 3 standard level courses as well as a certain amount of CAS (community service) and TOK (Theory of Knowledge, ethics, philosophy etc). Now why is it useful? Because you can get universities to exempt you from certain courses if you achieve a high grade in IB from the same or similar courses. As an example, I got exemted from my first year physics course, 72 units of Social Sciences (thats a whole years worth!) and would have got exempted from Java programming if I had bothered to turn in my course description to the registrar :(If you choose the right courses, you can get exempted from as much as a whole years worth of university courses, (some of my friends did). For example, lets say you want engineering. Take high level chem, physics and math and thats a year gone! The course choices are as follows (no you can't take all sciences and no literature!) You need 2 languages (A1, and A2), a math course (there are 3 levels actually, 2 std and 1 higher), a science course (chem, phys, bio) and one elective (any one extra from above or a totally different course). As in which universities accept it. Nearly all of them! Europe, UK, USA, Canada, Australia... They may not SAY that they accept it, but if you provide it anyways, you are almost guarenteed to get credit somewhere. Also the final IB grade is I think out of 45. You get 1-7 for each course and then add them up. Most universities, especially in the UK have a min IB grade you need to get to be able to enroll (usually around 32).So yeah, I say it is a very useful course, if you have any questions, reply or PM me. btw, for me it was much easier than GCSE, concentrate on the high level course (you get 2h more of them) and you are almost guarenteed to get a high grade.edit: btw, our school was one of the few schools in the world which REQUIRED you to take IB, so I didn't have much a choice. But it is becoming the standard education program worldwide.edit 2: oh, didn't mention, I'm Turkish, took IB in Turkey in an international school and now I'm studying Computer Engineering in Canada. -
Windows ME was there for a reason. It encouraged people to switch to Win2k and then gradually to XP.It had no other use, basically more $ for M$

I would have gone for debian, but I'm not gonna vote because SuSE is not up there!

I was a player this summer, helluva player too... I think I maxxed out two characters but I can't get involved with anything now because of school :(edit: btw, as a sidenote, bioware is now working with Obsidian (formerly Black Isle, makers of Fallout and Baldur's gate series, fallout being my all time favorite game) So their upcoming games should be awesome.

yeah, now that its been asked. There is an unlimited number of databases allowed, but how about the size of the databases? I have an account on https://www.100webspace.com/ and they only allow database sizes up to 5megs. That's why I'm considering switching to Xisto (also their servers are in Florida, and I have been having a lot of trouble lately because of Ivan and Frances etc...)

SMF - Simple Machines Forum, the succesor to YaBB SEok now that was a biased answer cuz I'm admining one, and because the YaBB Gold -> phpBB2 convertor didn't do a good job, I had to stick with SMF. However now using it for the past 3 days, I found it to be just as good as phpBB2 if not better in a lot of areas. I can also integrate it with Coppermine Gallery, and together they are ten times faster than my old perl based solution
-
they both have their ins and outs. Perl is designed to be more universal than php, it has a lot of different modules etc...All I care is about scripts on the net though and in that case php is faster and more secure. Of course anyone is welcome to disagree

one of my friends got a 5.1mp sony from ebay for $70!! I dunno how he finds these deals, he also had an iPaq pda for $150 (and these are CAN$)Go for two batteries, something more than 2.1mp and optionally with optical zoom if you really fancy good photographs. I have a 2.1mp Canon Powershot and the quality is pretty good, although the charging the flash time is long because it is 2 batteries.
-
well, look for second hand deals and you could probably get a comp with those specs for under 100 bucks. But it depends on where you live.
-
well, if you trace to where the pic comes from, you'll find out.

DE2 was nowhere nearly as enjoyable as DE.I could rant about this for ages, but come on, it was designed for the darn X-box. I want my keypad typing back! Even doom 3 was better as an rpg than DE2.

VC is an awesome game indeed, lots of replay value much better quality in content then GTA3. GTA3 may be larger, but VC is better. (Can't wait till San Andreas!)
