if You start with 200km/h and then drop to 100km/h another car that is constantly going at 100km/h will NEVER overtake you ugh, and before the centrino the P3-M and even before that many other laptop cpus were doing the exact same thing. What you guys fail to realise is that Centrino is NOT A NEW CPU. It is a standard for laptops and includes using an Intel motherboard chipset + Pentium - M CPU with power saving optimizations and b or g class Wi-fi networking. When you have all three, you have yourself a Centrino.

you are also missing a point, it doesn't come with a monitor. an LCD => +$300

well MACs are only popular with girls as far as I'm concerned since they look "cute" :rolleyes:On the other hand, their OS is based on Linux technology and therefore I can easily say that it is superior to any windows. This mini thing, I think of as an overly expensive stereo which you can hook up to your TV (if it is new and has DVI input) and watch dvds, play music etc. Then again, a slim DVD + divx player does exactly the same thing for a quarter of the price.

Thats a good one.Another note, beware of the motherboard Abit AV8. I was installing it with a friend yesterday and the motherboard does not support some Athlon64 CPUs out of the box. To get the new 90nm CPUs working you need a BIOS update. And because you can't get the thing to work you cannot update the BIOS

dude, I had some bad experiences with adidas.Back a few years they had the "feet-you-wear" style basketball shoes. I had a pair, the sole cracked from the middle. Replaced them, happened again, by then I had a pair of Nike (which I believe I still have)however, my latest shoes are once again Adidas. Adidas is superior in most aspects except basketball shoes, for those Nike rules...For soccer wear for example, Nike doesn't even exist, the competiton is mainly between Puma and Adidas.

I use styles, but I don't get whats wrong with it displaying + 0.75 ... etc...I mean whats the problem? does it not actually apply?if you are just wondering why it does that, its because Normal is predefined most probably and you cannot change it. Instead you can give a new name and then it won't display the + 0.75...

watch out dude you'll get tagged as a spammer around these parts if you just copy paste stuff from other places. Its not a good habit in general since it can get you into a lot of trouble in college and afterwards. Better always to rewrite stuff yourself or credit your source fully if you do quote them.As for the Rambus thing, they have completely failed once, I don't see why it shouldn't happen again. DDR2 and DDR3 is already being used and the later's bandwidth is just as much as what was mentioned so I don't see anything other than Rambus going bankrupt!

Socket 754 is obsolete, DO NOT buy that one. Get a new socket 939 athlon 64.

Faulty Motherboard Watch Grr... Why wont this piece of junk work

yeah, motherboards are the most fragile parts of a comp. It really pays to get a good quality board for 100-150. I would recommend brands such as Abit, Epox, Asus, MSI.A few years ago I also had a faulty ASUS CUSL2-C. But here the computer shops don't know how to handle equipment properly so 99% of the time they are the ones breaking the stuff. This would not recognize the AGP card when it was in a case, when built outside of a case it sometimes did.My friend here blew up about 3 motherboards in the past year, some were spontaneus. A capacitor leaks, something shorts and its gone. He was lucky that 2 were still under warranty and nothing happened to his CPU or Gforce 6800.So yeah, go for the good boards, you pay more, but you won't regret it. -
lets make one thing clear, laptops are NOT underpowered anymoredesktop replacement systems are just as fast as dekstops and have no problems with any kind of 3d games. I own such a system I bought one and a half year ago and still have no problems with any game at all.Another pro is that since you cannot very easily upgrade laptops (actually I can even upgrade my cpu, but very useless...) so you'll be spending less money afterwards. Sometimes there are great deals, I got my rig for ?700 for example and even have a dvd-rw in it.

well, I change the wallpaper once every 2-3 days or so but here it is: using large icons, all desktop icons except the bin are in a quicklaunch bar hidden at the top (unseen here) -
I got a cable for a SonyEricsson T300 thinking it could provide GPRS internet for my laptop. It didn't provide anything. I still use IR to transfer files. Waste of like ?30.

well creative sucks with drivers even for windows so you can't expect much for linux, however there are mature drivers that support SB cards including live and audigy for linux, most notably as ALSA -
totally agree with orange_blob, next big thing? not really...

what kinda question is THAT?there is virtually no competition between the two!

I have been using two different laptops in university for 3 years now and the ability to move them back and forth when I go home home during the breaks is great. Moreover, you can sit at lets say a library or a cafeteria and with wireless do ehatever you want during your time off between classes.I would only go with a desktop + PDA solution if the PDA is going to have advanced features such as Wi-Fi, large lcd and 64+ RAM. Even then, the pda+desktop will be more expensive than a laptop since laptops dropped in price dramatically in the last few years.

well, for the AMD wing, they are making new mobos that will support PCI Express and DDR2 and should arrive in the next six months. Otherwise their socket type should remain the same. As for intel, they have bigger fish to fry (pardon the pun) they are really going heat crazy and are going to switch to double core CPUs, basically two CPUs on one chip (yes, hyperthreading wasn't enough!) so we can expect a change in sockets, voltages and everything else there. Upgradeability for 2-3 years, hard to say. But considering the past, AMD was always slower in changing form factors and sockets so you'll prolly have better chance with AMD. here are two links for the AMD and Intel CPU roadmaps for the next year: AMD: http://www.anandtech.com/show/1571 Intel: http://www.anandtech.com/show/1524

if the socket of the mobo is the same as the cpu then there is a good chance it'll support it. For example the new intel mobos with Socket T support all the new cpu's also in the same socket T packaging. However the boards as mentioned come with PCI Express graphic card slots and most of the time DDR2 ram slots. So those components may need upgrading too.As for HDDs it is less of a concern. SATA can be easily converted to ATA (Parallel ATA actually) and mobos come with the converters already bundled. If you want to use your old DDR ram and AGP graphics cards I would go for an NForce 3 Ultra motherboard and an AMD64 3000+ cpu. Will get good performance, especially in games and they are the last generation of AGP supporting platform.

there are about 20 different processor threads in this very section so browse around and make your choice.

non audio files???I have an md player too, but it doesn't store anything non audio. Gimme some more details plz! Is it one of those new HD-MDs? Is it Sony? What Model number? From the sound of it, it is the new hd stuff, I can at most fit about 5-7 hours on one md which is 80min without compression. I have the Sony 707 which is kinda old but is still serving me good.
