Probably as swap. But you can't use pen drive as swap, why? Because pendrive is flash media and flash media can only stand a thousand write or so. Using it as swap will greatly reduces it's life.

They have plus and pro version that I have never looked into, but they now support linux and that's excellent! It worked flawlessly under ubuntu linux and probably alot of other distros. It's programmed under QT and I'm quite sure it doesn't use wine like piasca. I didn't crash on me yet. Google really know how to make the users happy!

Drupal is a CMS and Rails is a framework. Rails is a very good framework for ruby. At first you might not like it, but when you get used to it, you'll never want to program in php again if you have that choice. You don't need to spend time writing SQL queries, SQL connection, Template Engine, etc. All you just need to do is to write a short code and the template. It got built-in prototype, scriptaculous. But the fact that most hosting don't support rubyonrails stop it from being widespread. Try Cakephp, a rails inspired framework for php. It isn't as good as rails, but it can help me code alot faster.

The fact is that Ubuntu 6.10 will be a kind-of bleeding edge release, that's why they made 6.06 Long Term Support! Every distro got to have something new at some point right? Anyone aiming for stableness should not upgrade to 6.10 but wait for the next version beyond 6.10 All updates will be available so no fear your computer will be outdated. Can you reinstall windows? If you can't, ask the person you bought the computer with to reinstall windows for you WITHOUT Norton or McAfee. It's kind of funny actually, who would want to install both Norton of McAfee as both slows down your computer alot. You can use Avast free anti-virus instead, it uses less resource on your system, you will feel speed improvement. Another method is to disable each anti-virus software (each should have an option to do so).

Maybe you can try to create another email account to see if that other one is usable. If it is use that one instead (name it webmaster or something). Ubuntu is really good. I'm not a linux newbie but I still use it since it have the "apt-get" and some user-friendly ness, I mean who want to be on the expert-mode all the time. I can easily reinstall if I mess something up. I'm using ubuntu Dapper Drake right now with Compiz and XGL server. I combined the Vista and OSX themes. Now it looks really great. It looks different. My friend looked at it and didn't realize it isn't windows, he asked me if I can install the eye-candy on his windows XP! I'm still convincing him to switch to linux but he just won't because he thinks linux is very hard seeing I'm on the commandline. Google also change it's result based on the country it's accessed from (or the language the user browses in). So a person from england can see mostly english website first and a person from thailand can see some thai website. Google is a big service now providing other stuff using your "Google Account" known as "Personalized Homepage" where I can add content of my "regularly browsed" site like slashdot or lxer (basically any site with a feed) in it. Ask.com does have a very good design indeed. But people focuses on results when using a search engine!

I don't like the new media players from the beginning. It eats up resources I use Media Player Classic to play musics. I doesn't eat up much resource. I mean, if I open up windows media player, Other programs became slower especially if I'm compiling a project in background.I don't think media player need nice skin or effects. It need to be simple. Most people listen to music in background while doing something else.

XP codec pack is a large codec pack which contain most codec you'll ever need. Also try Klite Codec Pack they're in different sizes. The FULL should have all the codec you'll need. You may also want to try GSpot to identify what codecs you're missing!

System restore doesn't work on files you have created! It backup only system files. If your drive D haven't been tough (adding new files) lately you may have luck using a program named restoration to undelete it. Get it from snapfiles here

OK, I'll give it a try in this weekend. I haven't update wine files lately but I'll give it a try with the lastest CVS if the current version doesn't work. Sidenet put a different wine configuration file configured for applications(aka IE).

Your best bet is to reinstall them so that you won't have to deal with messy registry entries later. But to actually speeds stuff up you should actually have RAID drive. 2 drives with the same capatability configured to use sw/hw raid. It could be raid level 0 for speedy writes or raid level 1 for speedy reads. Separating games and software don't really have any effect because you don't run both at the same time anyway!

You can't put scripts in InvisionFree, host your own phpbb if you can! You're a hosted Xisto member aren't you, so why use InvisionFree when you could host your own forum! (Migration can be hard though)

What about trying the knoppix live cd to get used to linux while waiting for your RAM/DVDBurner. How much ram do you have anyway? Ubuntu should run fine with a little bit less RAM. If you can run a decent windows installation, then your ubuntu shouldn't be any problem for you. Ps How come you have a 64bit PC with little RAM?

Installing an application in wine always had some hassle and fine tuning. You'll get better luck with a self-compiled wine but as you haven't used linux before the pre-compiled should be enough. Try Fedora or Mandrake for a linux distro. The program is not listed in the appdb so it may or may not work. I has not tried it yet. It's based on your luck! (3Ds generally lacks support in wine, a least a while ago) I recommend a native CAD software that works on linux(and other *nixes) but only supports 2D drawing. Varicad and Cycas are commercial ones. But if you use CAD for 3D purpose you can use other 3D softwares like Blender or to draw 3D pictures use Pov-ray which draws from your description in a text file! Also if you plan I try that in wine, you'll have better luck with sidenet wine configurator(Here)

It's not a beep problem and it's not a heat problem, it's WinXP problem. The drivers aren't there! And there's no way to easily fix it(believe me). Don't waste your time and just do a reinstall!
