  1. If you want to serve a download server, better go for linux! But Win2003 IS design for servers.
  2. It's a great product if your looking for a big and easy to use distro. I tried Suse 9.0 and I don't think there will be much different. If you want a smaller distro go for Ubuntu! If you want a customizable distro, go for Debian(Mini Installer) or Gentoo! If you want a fast distro go for gentoo(stage 1) or Yoper (which require a little bit on work on NV_SATA). Yoper is combines goodies from many distro into ONE disc! Optimized(Prelinked) Kde came default with Yoper. Yoper also contain Sax2
  3. M$ Software already crashes so, am I right the beta version will crashes even more. I prefer updates from microsoft not third party!
  4. I prefer Mac, but I like linux even more. I don't have PPC, only my friend does. BUT my hobby is to theme kde into a mac-like desktop using baghira
  5. Not much difference. I don't use msn messenger because Microsoft is always forcing me to update it to the lastest version(Or I can't sign in) while It's competitor doesn't.
  6. I've got 512 but my provider has very limited internation bandwidth!232kbps download and Upload 176kbps. I should have applied for 256kbps package!!
  7. I know! My old Pentium 2 runs slower than a turtle! Now I have this AMD64 3200+ which runs at the speed of light! It's also has SATA drive, but sadly has only 512 ram (I want 1G!) and only 80GB harddisk (My friend has 160GB)
  8. Would you post your computer spec? That would help if you post what OS, what AV do you use? An misconfigured Avast! could use your harddisk all the time generating VRDB.PS: Does your Harddisk work when the computer is idle
  9. 1. Get Debian and install only X windowing system(For a small os, you should use TWM!).2. Install the lib that your application needed3. Install your application
  10. WIN ME is just M$ cvs drop of Windows 9x with dos removed. It wasn't ready yet!
  11. Debian is VERY good. But as long as you know how to use it. Aptitude should be able to help you on command line. Once you got X running I recommend Synaptic to manage software installation. To install a single software use apt-get install NAME_OF_SOFTWARE
  12. Would you wind saying WHAT worked since other users with the same problem will try that first since it's what they think will work since it works for you!
  13. Did you use a Download Manager? If you use it, you should be able to use it without any problem! I suggest FreeDownloadManager as a free download manager. You can get it Here
  14. May I added that you probably use SSL to access your E-MAIL. you can notice this by the "http://forums.xisto.com/; prefix instead of "http://forums.xisto.com/;
  15. Who is the winner... PHP Why? PHP runs on the solid linux(unix) servers and ASP and only be runned (fully supported) on windows server. Well you can easily find a thread about Windows vs. Linux. Another thing is that it's very hard to find free ASP servers.
  16. I remembered Light httpd, it runs faster than Apache on older computer and it's a better Idea to use it for whoose who doesn't advanced Apache server. Tomcat is NOT Recommended since it will run java to serve jsp which is not probably what you want. You probably want to use PHPBB or IPB for forum so you will need PHP.
  17. I use the nitro source. Experimental is my style. It added it's own "Nitro" menu so users can select it's new functions easily
  18. Opera free version slow the internet down with ads. Better go for the registered version if you want to use Opera. For me I use Firefox, It's availible for every platform and It's OpenSource
  19. Don't forget CuteFTP. It's absolutely not free, but it still has a good interface. I'd rather go for the free FileZilla though
  20. Every Optimizer That I've tried hog resources on my computer. It's best not to use any and disable visual effect. If you use win98 on a quite new (about 2Gz) then consider an upgrade to XP since it's much more stablier(If you want stability). The best way to tune performance is always buying better Hardware
  21. I'll also need to get another Flash Player Update on my (other) old computer with very slow connection. Macromedia will Release Flash Player 8.
  22. pawitp

    Need Free Ftp Client

I use WS_FTP PRO 2006 at my work place(they upload work with ftp there). I use cpanel at home since explorer is a little bit unstable on slower connection
  23. I don't think that's finished yet. Adobe says that they'll work independently untill it is completed
  24. Wow alot of hacks to install. I think you should list what each meta hack do
  25. I like slackware, but I prefere Debian. debian has much more powerful tools for software management. Slackware contain 'dependency hell' which happen when dependencies does not meet. Tools like apt-get or even emerge(from gentoo) sort that out for you. Urpmi(from mandriva) also does that. You have to find dependencies by your self with RPM, but at least it tells you what it needs.
