  1. For that you would need the live cd or the DVD. You can't run live ubuntu of an install cd!
  2. Foxie still uses the MSHTML engine which has many flaws and is the reason that IE is insecure. Firefox uses mozilla's Gecko engine which is more secure than MSHTML. Don't use foxie unless you have the real need to use MSHTML
  3. I don't use solaris so I can't provide the exact detail. But you don't need to know which type of router is it! You just need a DHCP client. Check if your network card is detected. In linux I use ifconfig /aI don't know if that would work in Solaris (After all it's un*x)
  4. A virus in the game OS can still destroy the office OS. It's best to create 2 accout instead of installing 2 OS. I think having xp is fine since it's microsoft most stable OS
  5. Pipelining is a trick that Firefox establish multiple connection to the server. You will put the load on that server. You will get more bandwidth share with this method. But some servers don't like this and they can ban you if you do it too much.
  6. You can make an image file with linux using "dd". It can make exact(bootable) image of your harddrive (or partition). To use it type dd if=your_partition of=backup_fileSubstiture your_partition and backup_file with the real value
  7. Eventough some come at a price. They all come Free (as in freedom). You have the right to have the source code of GNU software(if you have the binary).
  8. Another alternative is appserv. It's simple and easy to install. It contain apache, php, mysql and phpMyadmin
  9. Sorry, the link doesn't seem to work. It's suppose to be hc system/compatctr/compatmode.htm but the forum added http:// in front of it!P.S: I post again since I can't seem to find the "edit" button
  10. It is called "Properties" in English. Another thing is that you can also use the Wizard(Start->All Program->Accessories->Program Compatibility Wizard) Or click here Compatibilitty Wizard
  11. If you don't want jde fancy eyecandy go for gnome. It loads a lot faster and Ubuntu customize it so that it's so easy to use. Kubuntu is a little bit of a mess. Some features are not availible and some message in Kubuntu refer to a program in Ubuntu not the Kubuntu program. Install Ubuntu, it's not that hard to learn GNOME. If you want to see the difference, you should pick up a large(i.e. Fedora) linux distro at your local store.(Which will contain both KDE and GHNOME)
  12. I don't think that's the case. PHPBB use a database layer to communicate with the database instead of using the database directly. So it is compatible with multiple Database so I think you should use the Database layer. I don't remember but you can study code in the PHPBB directory
  13. There are no WYSIWYG php editor out there but you can use a html WYSIWYG editor for web layout and insert your php later. You still have to write a script though. A WYSIWYG php isn't customizable and thus don't exist
  14. I use linux, Debian linux. It's a little bit unfriendly but it's so customizable. I used linux/Gentoo before, but I just can't wait for it to compile the X window system(Xorg). Windows XP is what my mom use and she will blame me if I install grub so I need to have it on a floppy. Linux is not visible to any of my family member because they don't like it! I have a lot of problem clearing virus from windows(that other use)!
