  1. Why do you really need a small distro, unless u're fitting it on a USB key or something? If you want fast Linux and performance Linux, get "real" ones like SuSE, Fedora Core...xboxrulz
  2. Hey all! After 3 months of research, reconfiguration and all that, I finally found a way to get aRts application working with ALSA applications all at the same time, and no more hassles of closing 1 program after another. Here are the steps:1)Get the latest version of ALSA and aRts.2)Configure aRts so that it works on top of ALSA. Since ALSA thinks that artsd is just an application, it will just get the sound as if it was any other ALSA apps.3)Make sure mmap is OFF and in aRts, do NOT enable network sounds.4) For OSS apps, configure them to use aoss so every program you run can use multi-threadingAfter everystep is done, run an ALSA app and an aRts app and see if they really do work together. If not, just post back here and I'll try to help you.xboxrulz
  3. Well moldboy, Linux DOES NOT record whatever you type, nor does Mac. It only keeps a record of what is going on in the system backgorund, for example, this is extracted from my system logs: Anyways, this is another reason I stop using Windows XP and degraded to Win2K and moved to Linux too... Only if my family was smart enough, they will follow. My bro is too stubborn to move to Win2K or Linux. xboxrulz
  4. Now, I think Linux just beat WinXP when playing a Windows games because Cedega can support 3/4 of my games.xboxrulz
  5. also, it IS NOT recommended for anyone to run SP2. It's bloated and useless. Except for 64-bit machines. Anyways, try to reinstall the whole machine w/ WinXP (SP1)xboxrulz
  6. @lava.alt: There's not gonna be a TV console from Nintendo anymore as they announced early 2004. Unless they just changed their mind.xboxrulz
  7. no, I might not buy it because it's too soon, there aren't much of a technology change.xboxrulz
  8. sorry, I dun have a Mac, plus try to download the ISO file off torrents.xboxrulz
  9. Since I dunno anything about CRON, I can't help you there.Just chmod it back to 0777.xboxrulz
  10. You can just use Fedora Core to partition your hard-drive space. The / partition is the root, where everything goes.xboxrulz
  11. ok.... Did you download the Linux version? If so, do these steps:double click to launch the application or if you want to install as root, then right click and press open with; after type "kdesu sh" (without quotes). Enter your password.then follow the steps. It's that simple.xboxrulz
  12. There are good and bad places about Cedega. It is good to emulate current games but I don't support it when it comes to new games. I recommend playing games that are ported by Icculus xboxrulz
  13. Whistler is the codename for Windows XP :lol:xboxrulz
  14. Wow, why would MS Word make extra useless files? Good thing I'm w/ OOo.xboxrulz

I agree about the OpenSource thing.@Someone: FreeBSD couldn't really succeed in the desktop/laptop world because it's too complicated. Even I can't figure out FreeBSD (as a Linux user). Linux is quite hard, if you want very advance features. Plus, there are practically no good games like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, America's Army on FreeBSD either.Seems like Linux is the better candidate.xboxrulz
  16. If you read the article on TUX Magazine 2nd Issue it is no longer the case, the EVANS Research group found that Linux is a better for productivity on desktops and laptops; Windows is closely 2nd. xboxrulz
  17. actually it is, don't under-estimate Linux, I got C&C Renegade working on Linux via Cedega. Plus, I have America's Army installed on Linux too! :(xboxrulz
  18. Linux can only read NTFS, and although the NTFS driver can modify files, it cannot create or delete. Most distros disabled NTFS modify anyways.xboxrulz
  19. I just hate Microsoft products with the exception of their gaming department (incl. xbox)Most Microsoft products are released w/ stolen ideas. Look @ Windows, if it wasn't for XEROX and Apple, they would've never got a GUI.Anyways, I just plainly hate MS-WORD since it crashes, slows don't, a clip that never shuts up and all the annoyance, even after configuration. Also, for some reason, after the auto numbering goes to 9, every spacing messes up. Still figuring why, but it's annoying. I stopped using MS-Office since last year when I moved 90% of what I do on Linux.xboxrulz
  20. Yes, very useless and I too hate it. I run Linux and have OpenOffice. I say that it is the 2nd best (after MS Office) and the best office suite for other OS that it supports.OpenOffice only crashed on their milestone builds for 2.x, so that was no prob.yes, CTRL+S should be your best friend....xboxrulz
  21. Good thing my ISP uses Yahoo! Mail since they co-op as Rogers Yahoo!, so whenever Yahoo! bumps up their storage, I get the advantage -_-xboxrulz
  22. ywlke, Linux contains 0% of UNIX code. It's only POSIX complaint (plus, it acts like UNIX). FreeBSD, in the other hand has UNIX coding into it.xboxrulz
