Teachers always complain that the students have bad planning, and leave things to the last minute. We have our GCSE exams going on at the moment, and we are still being set coursework projects and other stuff to finish, while trying to revise and also do other stuff to relax. Our teachers also seem to complain if we don't hand work in early! Since when was it required to hand stuff in before it's due in?

If people want a blog, then they set them up on their hosting space. That way you have far more control over it and much more in the way of resources. As sad as it may be, some of the people who come here only post so that they can keep their hosting, which would leave the blog system being used by only a few people.If people want a free blog, without hosting it themselves then there are plenty of sites that do that, without putting a strain on the forum or costing anyone anything.

My friend runs his own server using an old PC he had that he just upgraded a bit. It took us a while to get Apache and MySQL working, but PHP was pretty easy. So far I think it has been online for over 2 months with no problems and it seems to run pretty well. The only problem is that it's a quite old PC and it doesn't run particularly fast.

Getting people to sign up to a site is always a difficult thing to do. Check your stats and see how many people are actually visiting the site, but not signing up. If you aren't getting many visitors then you need to get the site known, tell people what you do and most importantly, why should I go to your site, when there are others that do the same? What are the plus points, and what makes you stand out from the crowd? If people ask you questions, always reply and try and be more personal, use their name rather than Sir/Madam, and speak to them in a friedly way in emails.If you have the visitors, but they are not signing up, then they need an incentive to. Then encourage people to sign up, so they get access to extra features that are actually useful to them and that they might need. The tutorials are written by expert users of the software and are very well written, so people are willing to sign up to get access to them. Adapt this theory to the services of your own site.

I've seen this before, and it's something to do with the way that you brain actually remembers how to spell words. Somehow the brain can still make the right connections, just being presented with the correct letters, and having the starting and finishing letters also helps. You just have to be careful that you don't end up actually writing a word when you reorder the letters! My English teachers write like this all the time, and rely on the class to point out their spelling mistakes

At my school we have a filtering system because they say that people spend too much time accessing non-educational sites. They also block any site that is deemed inappropriate by someone sat in an office somewhere. So, when it came to my ICT coursework, creating a website on smoking, when searching for "smoking" we got every single site blocked.A little bit of now-not-so-common sense would go a long way to getting these filtering systems working properly.

I think that we should be using solar power on small electronics, even if it's for personal convenience rather than saving the environment. Surely most people have had an important device die on them while they're in the middle of something and a solar charger would be a brilliant way to stop the batteries going flat.It seems odd that at my school, GCSE students are able to use solar panels to generate and store power, yet big name companies refuse to put them onto their products.

The main disadvantages of things like BitTorrent and peer-to-peer software is that most of the content now is illegal, but you can sometimes find something useful and legal, and more and more freeware is now being distributed in this way.I hate those sites like Rapidshare, as they are slow and just display too many adverts. A barebones laptop is possible, but normally everything is specifically designed for that laptop. The actual housing of the laptop is normally styled and designed specifically for one model with certain features and it is therefore very difficult to put other components in it. As is the same with desktops, you need to make sure everything you get is compatable with everything else, but space is more of an issue and you need to get dimensions for everything. If you can, try and get hold of a few old laptops, even if they don't work, and just look at the components inside, how everything is arranged and think why it has been done like that. You might also see all the different designs and layouts they have. Yes, you can build your own laptop/notebook computer, but it will probably cost you a lot more and might not work first time.

Simple robots like the robot dogs and things like that are very unlikely to do humans any harm, but no doubt that at some point a robot will end up being incredibly dangerous to people, whether that be unintentionally or intentionally.For example, there have been programs on TV that show robotic guns and military hardware. It would only be a matter of time before some of that hardware fell into the wrong hands and we could have a major Worldwide problem.Developing "intelligent" robots could also have bad side effects, especially if they learn as they go along. Intelligence can be a very dangerous thing and I'm sure that you would get people who would manage to either program their robots or make them learn bad things, but I don't think there would be any sort of uprising like the one in I, Robot.

When buying anything major I tend to research the companies involved first to make sure that they are reliable and all of their customers have been happy. Personal service is something very important, and being able to ask questions both before and after the purchase. I often use a company called Novatech for all my techno stuff, and they are very reliable and have a personal service. If money isn't really an object, the I would go for something like this. I presume you're in the US and I'm not sure if it's available over there, but you might be able to have it shipped out. Alienware also do some brilliant notebooks, available worldwide, such as this one, which a friend of mine owns and is very happy with.

I would happily participate in a banner exchange here at Trap 17. I have seen quite a few other sites that run ther own systems for members and they have worked quite well, so I am sure it could work here. You would probably need to add some code to prevent your own banner appearing on your own site, as that is pretty pointless, and it wouldn't be that hard to implement.

I use Windows Media Player, simply for the library thing to keep all of my music organised. Occasionally it crashes, but it's normally OK and is nothing more than you expect from any other piece of Windows software. On my last PC I had Winamp for using Shoutcast and iTunes for Quicktime, but I very rarely used either of them for listening to music.
