  2. Dear Xisto moderators; It's not everyday that we get a little bit of encouragement from our work, school or even just regular day life. But when we do, it feels tremendously jubilant! But we forget that Xisto "is" like a work place or a school--everyone functions like a well oiled machine parts. And sometimes we feel that it's obvious and natural for moderators to be maintaining this wonderful forum, we often forget that it is by no means a paid or well rewarded position for moderators. Moderators do this and help Xisto forum out of their pure goodness in your hearts and ask nothing in return. For this, we salute all Xisto moderators for their endless effort to keep Xisto alive and be respected. We truly appreciate all your help and we just cannot thank you enough and tell you what it means to be part of this great staff. No matter how effective you may feel as this Xisto collective, each of you matter so greatly to Xisto. And without our Xisto moderators we know for certain that we will not see a better day in our forum.Sincerely yours,Xisto members
  3. Search the forum before making a redundant topic. What is the difference between your topic and this topic http://forums.xisto.com/topic/3669-the-best-media-player-which-is-your-best-media-player/ ? This topic is closed and please continue your discussion to above link.
  4. That is correct. Parking a domain means it will add to your currect hosting, i.e. ****.com. And any parked domain (no matter what the name is) will point to ****.com. Add-on domain means it will point to your subdomain created while addin a domain. This will have its own access and address BUT it will be under subfolder of your hosting account. Please refer to Parked domain or addon domain for more information.

  8. Since we're speaking strictly with dial-up system here, a router cannot function as an external modem because 1) I have not seen it 2) I do not believe anyone has ever made such.If you do find a router that can connect to a phone jack and act as an external modem, then the answer is yes. Routers are amazing that way. However, as far as United States' hardware specifiction goes a router is a router and only connects via USB or Ethernet. Which means, you will need an external modem to "handle" or "handshake" with the transmittion and let a router handle the multiple connectivity.
  9. The topic starter wanted connection by themselves. So which I understood as "independent" connection rather than dependent connection. Which means, you do not have to have "A" computer dial out, and the rest can, then, connect to the internet using a router. By having router to dial out on demand, you can have "B" or "C" computer to be connected without the aide of "A" computer. Just so that there's no confusion, this is how I was trying to explain: <---[dialer]---[router] |-------[computer 1] |-------[computer 2] |-------[computer 3]etc... Router contains a simple instruction to trigger the "dialer" to dial out with specific command. The trick is finding a router with either serial connection or dialer with USB connection. Some external modems used to support this feature but with advancement of today's ISP, I'm not sure if you can even find an external modem.
  10. I figured out how to use 1 network cable to run 2 network connections--because today's standard Cat5e still uses 4 out of 8 wires. But the dial-up is different. Once an omh is dropped (this signals the phone company that your phone is now connected to telex--the telephone automated routing system) only one connection is allowed per "complete circuit" until the dial tone is revived. This basically means that when you hear the dial tone and send the tone to dial to some place, the telex connects to the remote place and that's it. When another connection is attempting to use the same phone line to make the connection, since the dial tone is not present the secondary connection device will not connect to anything. This method was devised by AT&T (and for all those old alt 2600 hackers out there "At The dial Tone" Free Ben!) who set the dial tone command for modem standard. There was an article where you can rewrite Linksys router CMOS to run linux. Then, you can command a router to connect on demand with preset number and password. And when anytime any computer connect to this router wanted to go to the internet, the router will execute the command to dial out.So, in a sense, each computer can actually use independent connection method and have all computers access the internet because the router will handle the gateway.Let me see if I can still find that article. But for your information, connecting to internet with serveral computers using dial up is never a good idea (unless you really, really want it to happen).
  11. It was feasible few years ago when parts were high in price and you still can buy parts from ebay or whole sellers at a fraction of the price. But in recent months, purchasing computer is just as effective as making your own--with additional benefit. When you purchase a computer, you get a registered operating system with few bundled software. If you were to build a computer, you have to purchase each of them individually.Have you checked Dell's website lately? The last time I saw, they were offering high CPU with mid RAM and HDD with 17" LCD monitor for $500. C'mon, you can't beat that now, can you?By the time you purchase a montherboard and CPU combo, RAM, graphics card and the harddrive you are well over $400 these days. Add $200 for the operating system plus a monitor...you are looking at least $800. I think you should consider Dell or Gateway before you go out and try to do this the "component" style.

  14. Ah... I was hoping this can be similar to SitePal http://www.sitepal.com/ Is there anyway your tutorial can accomodate voice dub?
  15. I have the darnest time while navigating the internet these days. Has this happen to you? You visit a site for your research and enter a site that causes multiple browsers to open (but in different size). But your prefered browser size is not full but a certain size (probably you made it such wide and sich high). Or, you test your website for different resolutions. But the last browser window you closed caused your new browsers to open in different sizes... ack! My computer screens are either in 1280x1024 or widescreen mode. And thus i want my browser to be in fixed 1024x768 (for both resolution testing for webpages or just because I like it that way). I thought I could be satisfied with editing registry but that wasn't enough. I found this code from B&T's Tips and Scripts. java script:resizeTo(1024,768); *there's no spce between "java" and "script" but this board is protecting it from malicious attempt so it inserted a space. Please make sure there's no space, i.e. "javascript" This one liner, when enterend as URL for a bookmark or entered to the address bar, can reclaim your browser to determined size by you. All you need to do is open your browser, add bookmark and enter the above code as URL. I did it with "about:blank" so that no other favicon or other information was associated to the bookmarked link. The IE gave me error messages while saving this bookmark URL, but I continued by clicking OK and it works fine. So i now have three bookmarks with 3 different browser sizes that I can change on a demand. This code has been tested on IE and Firefox without an issue. If there's a better way of doing this task, please feel free to share.

  20. Yes. Do you mean a web page template you can instantly setup your site? No. However, check this site http://www.oswd.org/ for free templates. Do you mean is cPanel extra besides the hosting? Please read the main Xisto.com page and you'll find that cPanel is INCLUDED with your free web hosting. Asking questions are encouraged but to prevent from delay of correct answers, please be detailed and specific with your questions. Please discuss ONE subject per topic. Your topic was asking sub-domain changing option and then asked for cPanel. Please search the forum FIRST and stay on the topic.
  21. Your subdomain shows as GFXHeadquarters.tra17.com (missing the letter P in Xisto). This will be the only time a domain request will be changed by me. Please be sure to type and recheck your spelling next time.Your subdomain has been changed to the correct domain. Topic closed.
  22. I'd like to request the following "behavior" in PHP if at all possible. I have a content that shows And when the "link" is clicked I would like to see the full view. This time the "link" will shrink and show only the short view. I made style.css class HIDDEN where <div class="hidden"> in the page does not show, but still part of a file. The reason for this is that I'm hoping I don't have to make multiple files to show more or less. The objective for my request for PHP script is to have one single file with PHP code that can show or hide a content that is triggered by clicking a link, i.e. index.php?view=hide or unhide. I would appreciate any suggestions without using SQL database. Essentially, I'd like to mimic CuteNews short or full view.

  24. You can request for hosting at Xisto. The difference between Xisto and Xisto is that Xisto features more indepth discussions. Therefore, Xisto gears towards the technical aspects of everything where Xisto features more relexed forums, such as Life Talk, Games and Graphics.
  25. Another solution is use the Process page to change/edit your domain name with proper credit fee. The choice is yours. Please refer to Hosted members section for discussion on Parked domain vs. Registered domain.Topic resolved and closed.
