  1. You have to remember though that Mac's are still all the same hardware, everything could be programmed to work on very specific hardware. Windows isn't like that, it runs on just about anything you throw at it.I don't know why Windows XP would need third party SATA drives (not that I know a single person out of 100's that would even use SATA, their still somewhat new in a way), I suppose Windows XP came out before SATA drives? that would make sense, or a issue with driver makers or some such who knows. You can basicaly use the operating system while you are installing it? (Linux) I find that a little farfetched besides using a LiveCD if thats what you mean and you didn't include the fact that it takes 100 years to boot rofl. Iv'e used a few distributions, they were alright to play around with except it didn't like my USB modem, Windows does, it didn't like my gamepad, guess what? Windows does, Linux doesn't seem to have an alternate to alot of my favourite games... oh dear and it would seem neither does Mac.... oh well.If Windows isn't really that good... why are so many people using it? If someone could throw an honest to god replacement(that can *really* beat Windows) in a few peoples faces then word would spread like wild fire.Linux won't be that replacement and neither will Mac, Mac isn't overly difficult or some Linux distributions (to some degree) but the majority want it simple and Windows seems to hit the hammer on the nail the most accuretly so far.EDIT: FireFox is a good example of something that basically crapped all over Internet Explorer and word spread pretty fast all considering...
  2. I meant if there was any comparison to be had, Windows is supposed to be simple, Unix not to so simple, Linux sort of inbetween. Hence it's Unix slapped towards Windows a little
  3. As in nobody else uses it? I would think that to be a good thing, nothing wrong with having something unique eh.
  4. What other (Major Desktop) Operating Systems are there besides Windows and Mac OS? rofl none.I wouldn't really count Linux as a major desktop Operating System, more of a unix tilted slightly more to being like windows or something odd like that.Of course Windows has spyware and virus's flying out of it's ears, it's used more then anything else, basic proportion. Alot of people seem to think if Windows users jumped ship to Mac OS or Linux that they wouldn't have even close to as many problems, I would beg to differ though, stronger security will only attract smarter people anyway....
  5. I got both my pins, they notified and sent me the first once which didn't arrive within the specified time so I clicked on the button to send another. I got the first one about a week later and the second one soon after. As long as your adress details are correct there shouldn't be a problem, but it may take some time.
  6. Oh I don't use laptops/notebooks what ever people are calling them these days, they ren't powerful enough and if I'm out I'm usually on my skateboard so a portable computer isn't much use to me.I was thinking of the Desktop market. Not to mention the ridiculous prices for less powerful computers....
  7. As opposed to Mac and Microsoft, it all depends on what you consider mass doesn't it? Iv'e only known a hand full of people to have ever owned a Macintosh machine let alone heard of the company period. But mention Microsoft.... and yep you get a response.Apple may have started out on top but they obviously weren't there for very long....
  8. What do you mean? technically the DirectX portion of Microsoft is of it's own entity. It's basically microsoft.com/DirectX.It's just like my old hosting where I had 3 different websites based off chessoscorner.com, e.g. chessoscorner.com/ThisSite or chessoscorner.com/ThisForum.That's an odd thing to be ruling out, I could understand direct links to files but to that....
  9. Btw you can link directly to the DirectX section of Mircosoft, just do a google search on DirectX and that will give you a more direct link.
  10. I have a Celeron D that overclocks just fine with it's stock cooler..... it's running 600mhz faster and could be hitting another 600 more with some decent cooling.Nice system, wish I had the money for that :|
  11. I go under the hood and I'm not a technician lol depending on what you mean, I obviously don't program it myself as it's not open source, so I just write my own applications to do the work so meh.
  12. Yeah I think we are just discussing the issue and trying to understand it better, who knows some people may click away from this a little wiser then they were before reading this thread.
  13. Actually the best way to not get any troubling spyware or virus's is to leanr the basics of a PC and not be stupid from that day forth :(It's worked wonders for me or atleast until I allow someone on my PC and then something always seems to go wrong.... but that's why I have a single folder filled with hundreds of free/shareware applications I have collected over the months.
  14. Well if you put alot of pressure on your leg for example for extended periods of time what do you think could happen? (SNAP!!!). Or even a quick and hard pressure on a bone (SNAP!!!).I see at in this way, very loud music so close to your ears is like putting great pressure on the drums inside, i'm pretty sure you have three drums that sound basically vibrates off of and finally your'e brain processes the information. If the drums in your ears recieve alot of loud sound then logically the vibrations would be greater and over time or if loud enough could cause immediate deafness. I think it's still possible to hear fairly well even with a single drum basically blown but it was quite a long time ago when I got curious and read up on all this.P.S. Wish I had of found this post earlier (Iv'e found a few interesting subjects in the Similar Topics list at the bottom of most forum pages but they are usually kind of oldish).
  15. I'm a bit late on this topic but don't forget about RPG Maker 2003 and the newer XP version aswell.2003 is basically an updated 2000 version but XP makes quite a few advancements although some annoying if your'e used to previous versions, more colours can be used, less restrictions and such. The newer XP version also comes with a scripting language (Ruby) which you can use to further customize things, it basically lets you get under the hood more so to speak.
  16. What do you mean? do like get music onto it? I thought all mp3 players for mass storage devices and windows detected them as such..... don't you just drag and drop them in like you would with a floppy disk (with faster result of course)?I'm not huge on the whole Ipod, Creative and Mp3/Video player etc things so I'm not entirely sure as to what you are after. The only use I have for WMP is watching video and listening to audio all that other crap is useless in my opinion lol
  17. If you can find some normal work to save up it may well be worth it in the long run but I can't say for sure, ultimately the decision is yours to make so it will be your feelings and intillect that make the final decision.
  18. Well I feel that AVG is rather slow at scanning but I'm unsure on how it compares with that to other AV's as I don't usually use others. It's fairly simple and clean interface, so it's pretty much straight forward to use, it has a free version that is of course updated often and is fully functional. The keyword being free heh heh.
  19. Our society is being alienated because believe it or not quite a few actually want it, I seriously wish I could walk down the street alone most of the time. It's real annoying to have blank stares as people walk past all the time it gets on my nerves and difficult to look else where when it makes it so obvious heh.On a plane though your'e obviously not going to talk to someone twice your'e age or is asleep or busy etc. If people want to talk face to face bad enough they will do it.
  20. Well some games are surprisingly slow at loading data when you change maps and such, one game that comes to mind is Vampires The Masquarade Bloodlines, it takes forever to load just small places and the main areas are a real pain.Plus all they tell you is that you have to have a 1400mb swap file, yeah real great programming... anyway it's probably not worth it as others have mentioned, most of those silly tweaks don't see any visual benefit anyway.
  21. I didn't even download it, most of the updates are useless in my eyes and i'd rather not have their piece of software with a rather contradictory user license agreement (if it's the right application that I'm thinking of atleast). But yeah not much else you can do besides hoping for someone nice and usefull to answer the phone or just fork out.
  22. Delphi has built in support for building a multi lingual application but iv'e never used it to be honest so I'm really not sure on how it works and whether it's the right thing but it might be worth a try.
  23. So the ultimate answer is to not be bothered so you cannot be proud deprived, besides what would you gain from figuring it out anyway lol.
  24. Well I don't know much at all of India but somehow I don't think Australia is any better these days.... heh.I don't know much especially about all these engineering degree's and such I just program and that's what I do. I seem to be pretty good at it too, For 8 years on and off I just skateboarded, and yes I was pretty damn good at it too.I suppose learning mathematics and science and a host of other subjects could improve my technical understanding of both my hobbies, but learning these will not teach me nor help me do that specific thing. That's one clash I have with the education system, the purpose of modern education is to prepare a child basically to work. What place does history and science have in the general work place (Shouldn't these be for specific, chosen career's). They have actually made Australian studys (a mostly bunch of indiginous crap) a mandatory subject here in Australia. In the case of the Australian Studys Subject, ok we beat the crap out of them and took over, big deal how was it any different from history all over the globe... and what exactly can learning this do for me? jack **** that's what.I mean obviously mathematics and chemistry and such are a hell of alot more usefull and on par with any kind of job then something like Australian Studys but I think you get the point. The basis of the fact is my friend as far as they are concerned you either put up and shut up or go away, so you either take what they throw at you and throw it back at them or just leave it all together. And I do see your'e point, well I see it as basically you already know how to program so why the hell should you need to learn all this other rubbish that's pretty much irrelevant to your case. This is why I don't want to attempt certification in the computer area, not to mention some of the really crappy and surprisingly outdated material they throw at you.
  25. AVG Free is pretty good iv'e used many times in the past, infact it's the only Anti Virus program that I would use if necessary, I don't much like the others and this one being free and very functional is also a good thing.I use tools like Ad-Aware and such but they aren't really labelled as *Anti-Virus*.
