Google - How To Hit The Top SOE technics, suggestions, links
Chesso replied to wojta's topic in Search Engines
There's nothing wrong with a site put together in a few minutes, just might not have too much content though heh.Exactly what differences has anyone seen from doing all this anyway? -
Well short of someone going in there and removing it or somehow using a php script to do so I really don't know why that would happen.....I regularly export my databases and just copy/paste into a text file near my site/forum backup files incase I ever need it. Maybe this is a good idea? it's saved me a few times. Then I just copyed from the text file and pasted into phpmyadmin and fix it all backup.I do the same thing when testing all my phpbb2 software+mods, I upload the entire forum or changed sections and then export database data for phpbb2 and import in phpmyadmin on host.

Half PC Does Not Support Windows Vista
Chesso replied to marretas's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Same here really, I don't plan on using Vista if at all possible. Windows XP has done the job so far, though I would like to see some real improvements.Making it use DX for everything isn't going to fix all the problems..... plus they are apperently leaving alot out of the initial release of Vista. So for those of us that don't have money too waste or time to waste on it, were better off waiting until theyv'e covered most ground and given us the extras they were going to in the first place. -
MS Soon To Cut Off Win 9x And ME Users

That's very true, but claims of his very buggy software isn't too far from the truth, at a programmers and even your basic ends users point of view. There are many flaws in the Operating System that have always been present in earlier versions and I know for a fact many of them have nothing to do with the hardware what so ever. Some of the problems from a programmers perspective are actually easily fixed but they won't fix it.....One example is the Windows File Open Dialog (explorer version), the box that contains your selected filenames has a hard character limit of around 65500, which is about 200 files depending on how many characters each file has in it's name. Microsoft could have easily released an update that used a Rich text like control that can hold more characters as opposed to the one they use now.And yet the problem is still in Windows XP...... -
Just remember if you use Visual Basic that your clients will need the VB6 Runtime package.Borland Delphi is almost as easy to learn as Visual Basic and does not need any accompanied runtime package unless you choose to use one to reduce your executables size. There are many addons so to speak for Delphi that will allow you to interface with MySQL and other database software. If you decide to give Delphi or VB a go I or others here can recommend some learning and resources and sites to help find what you are looking for (e.g. components for accessing MySQL and information on using them).Oh and just so you know, both Visual Basic and Delphi have form designers, basically letting you *drag n drop* the look and basic functionality of your GUI which helps save development time.

Well they do have some advertising but they place it rather well, I notice it all the time but it doesn't distract me *too* much.It always sucks to see a host go down, some of them were good but just didn't last long, probably couldn't handle it or didn't see it being worth it in the long run.A good friend of mine has his own personal server that's pretty decent, not as good as the stuff ran here but good enough for hosting some friends and what not.OFF TOPIC: Actually if anyone can recommend (through PM maybe) some free CPanel like software I would greatly appreciate it, my mate has been looking for something, he tried ZPanel but he said it was very difficult to install.

I don't think video games make people voilent, it's the idiots that use the game as an excuse. If there brain works well enough that they can pinpoint that GTA (any game) is what made them commit a crime then they really have no excuse.....Is bully that fighting one? I remember seeing a new game on their site (I think it was theirs) and it looked half decent, but haven't seen any recents news about it.

I still haven't finished GTA3.... I ended up getting it after Vice City and San Andreas and found it to be pretty good and marginally different from the others.I haven't gotten too far though, I think on the other island that you go to where you deal with the asian woman.

Yeah that's kind of how I see it, when I make something graphical for myself (which is rare because I really suck at it ) I make sure I like it, no worry about anyone else lol.
-
You have a good point there.Guess there's always a trade off with that, it'd be difficult in my opinion to get it any better without it blending in too much now that I really think about it.I might have to have a go at making one of these myself for a sig for my forum i'm building up.

Wow it does look pretty nice, the text needs to fit in a little better with the whole picture though I think.Other then that it's great, have you been making stuff like this long? I started playing around with a little Photoshop recently but i'm not very good at it.

Self-Parking Cars To Be Introduced In U.S.
Chesso replied to miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It would end up making just as many mistakes as we do, if not more fatal ones but there may be situations where it's best to leave it up to the car to handle parking or whatever else it is capable of.I don't like cars much though so you certainly wouldn't see me using it. -

Windows XP alone has been around for how long now? 5 years or more, and your'e ranting because they are dropping support for older operating systems......I think after so long it is pretty fair to drop support for them, if that's what they want to do, some people might be left on older Windows Operating Systems but unless they are running ancient hardware I can't see any good reason as to why. -

Wow, I must admit after all that time it would feel as if I was getting something for nothing, would anyone else feel that way?I'm sure someone would be interested in buying it at a very nice price -
Please Recommend A Decently Priced & Good FPS Game
Chesso replied to Asaf's topic in Computer Gaming
I have to highly recommend Medal Of Honour: Allied Assault. It's one of the older games of the series but it is in my opinion really damn fun! There is still tons of people playing it online too. It's nothing new so you won't need a beast of a machine to run it and if you can get your hands on it, I would imagine it to be fairly cheap too.Oh and just incase your'e unsure, Yes it is an FPS game. -
I have owned all of them, I didn't get a chance to complete San Andreas though as the DVD disc went on me, probably due to my brother playing it excessively.San Andreas is alot nicer looking in my opinion then Vice City, It has an overall smoother look to it, You can ride BMX and do some pretty cool things. Not too long after the start you can enter a local GYM too, to work out your muscles and increase your strength, learn some new fighting techniques or increase youre stamina. If you have played all the other GTA games it won't be too long before you start getting a little bored, much like the Tony Hawks skateboarding series, but it is definitely worth giving a try!

Yep that's pretty much correct, and for nVidia users there is the TweaksRUs modified nVidia drivers and the Omega's for ATI users.Generally they tweaked nVidia/ATI drivers for the better (image quality and performance wise). Also alot of those XP Tweak Quides share alot of the same information but I haven't found any real bogus material yet, it's just annoying to have to tweak this stuff every clean install of Windows XP.

Yeah I am pretty sure they have discontinued support for Windows ME sometime last year or the year before.I actually used to like Windows ME until the file handle limit started giving me trouble with some applications I was programming that needed to use alot of visual controls, I later upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional and now I am using Windows XP Home with Service Pack 1 intergrated.I thought they still supported Windows 2000 though. -

Yeah and just how easy is Linux to use compared to Windows? Do you enjoy having to compile the source of programs you like to use lmao.512mb of ram is tiny..... I only have 768mb but everyone I know has 1gb stick and onwards. Guess it's just us poor guys that will be slightly out of range heh. -
Hi and welcome (I am also new here), good to hear that you read the rules *thumbs up*.Hope you enjoy your stay here as I have so far (although very short so far).
-
That sounds quite costly but it certainly is an original idea or atleast it's news to me.Where on earth did you come up with such an idea as to try that.....The furthest iv'e gone with fiddling around with electronics is my ingenius idea of using a Mega Drive cable for a Super Nintendo that had a broken one..... lol.

7-Zip: A New Compression Standard A new compression standard
Chesso replied to amitbhandari's topic in Software
I personally prefer WinRAR, I have tryed 7-zip but never took to it and it's use isn't very abundant on the web. There's also much better compression to be had from Uharc but I don't see everyone rushing towards it..... oh well. Then again it's not exactly the fastest thing in thr world for larger files and it's not very well known as well being BETA or unfinished software. Some of the front ends for it work nicely though. -
Simplicity Keeping things simple.
Chesso replied to bridgebuilder's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You should try out the free version of Ultimate Paint it can be very usefull and can do some nice looking text, shadow, outlining, anti-aliasing etc.I do believe in simple design though on the web, I always appreciate a nice looking but simple and fast website. My works certainly have the simple and fast part down but looking nice.... well probably not with todays standards .
