My New Site tell me about my new site design
odomike replied to rldowling03's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Not a bad site I must say. But I would say that you should try to allign the cells and tables in there properly.I Thikn that should make your homepage look better. And apart from that, try to put more stuff in there. Make use of tabs or background pics in your hyperlinks or if you have to use plain text mode, make the text to be bolder so that people dont have to go groping around in your homepage. It took me some time to find where your links are located. And I wouldnt say that your template is bad but I still think that your site would do better with a better designed and coded template.Stay kool man. -
Flashing Your Motherboard's Bios How to flash a BIOS
odomike replied to odomike's topic in General Discussion
Of course, there will definitely be a permanent damage to your hardware if something goes wrong during the BIOS flashing process. Before you go into flashing your BIOS, you should make sure that you have a good idea about using MS DOS and the commands associated with it. Apart from that, a number of precautions should be taken to ensure the safety of your computer during the process. 1. You should make sure that there is a steady power supply in your house to avoid the risk of the computer powering off during the flashing process. Should this happen, you are running the risk of loosing your motherboard imediately. 2. Ensure that you have both a good working diskette drive and floppy disk itself. if the floppy drive detects any bad sectors in the diskette during the process, that will definitely be another bad story of its own. So ensure that both are good to avoid problems. 3. Ensure that you got the correct BIOS model and version to match that on your motherboard. That is quite risky too as can end up permanently damaging the BIOS in there. There are some other preceautions too but these are the ones I can remember at the moment. Just make sure that you follow these precuations and you wont have problems with your BIOS flashing. -
What Does It Mean If Whenever I Flash My Bios... urgent problem...
odomike replied to alapidus's topic in Hardware Workshop
Simply put.....most laptops have their BIOS locked. In which case you cannot flash/upgrade your laptop. Their sre still some of them with an unlocked BIOS.This is one little problem with laptops. I think you should stop trying to flash your laptop's BIOS should in case you damage it. You should be happy that your laptop hasnt gone bad after several trials to flash its BIOS.I bet you that you've got yourself a real good laptop or it would have turned into a bad story for ya.My Advice to you: Quite trying to flash your laptop's BIOS less you damage it. -
Hello Everyone, Let me start with reintroducing myself into this forum. My name is Michael Odo. A Nigerian and one of the previous most active members of this great online community. Well, I know that I have been off from here for quite a very long time due to some hard times but, I am back now and in full force. Back to the topic of my discussion. BIOS means Basic Input/Output System. It is a software embedded into your motherboard and which controls everything on your system. Flashing the BIOS is quite a risky affair and you are better adviced not to try that if nothing is wrong with your computer (though there might still be some people out there like myself who will still go ahead to flash a BIOS irrespective of the fact that nothing is wrong with the computer. I actually flashed the BIOS of a motherboard I just bought newly - Gigabyte P4 Titan - 8S661FXMP-RZ Series .) Yea, I know that it sounds damn crazy bought I went ahead to flash the BIOS of my motherboard because I wanted to incorporate my name (picture should be better) into the system BIOS and I also went ahead to upgrade my BIOS from the previous F2 model to the latest F3 model. Well, I succeeded and nothing went wrong and right now, whenever I power my system, it displays my name and picture on the monitor's screen during the post screen, before booting the operating system. Ok, to make the BIOS flashing easier for you, I would recommend you download a free BIOS flashing utility from any of the search engines (Googles or Yahoo is recommended). Make sure that your utility supports the flashing of your particular kind of BIOS (Award BIOS or AMI BIOS). Using the wrong utility can permanently damage your BIOS and that means that your motherboard is gone and gone forever (depending on if the BIOS is fixed or detachable, you have the option of changing the BIOS with another good one of the same model as that you have on your motherboard. Ok, follow these steps CAREFULLY to flash your BIOS. FOR AMI BIOS Step 1 (1) If your mainboard has a BIOS protection jumper, change the setting to allow BIOS flashing. (2) Make a DOS boot diskette. (See example: Windows 98 O.S.) Beware: Windows 2000/Me are not allowed to make a DOS boot diskette. a. With an available floppy disk in the floppy drive. Please leave the diskette "UN-write protected" type. Double click the "My Computer" icon from Desktop, then click "3.5 diskette (A)" and right click to select "Format (M)". (. Select the "Quick (erase)" for Format Type, and pick both "Display summary when finished" and "Copy system files", after that press "Start". That will format the floppy and transfer the needed system files to it. In Win XP simply select the option to make a DOS bootable disc and the OS will automatically make the bootable diskette for you. ©. After the floppy has been formatted completely, please press "Close". STEP 2 Download BIOS and BIOS utility program from Award or American Megatrends. Please make sure that you download the particular utility for your kind of BIOS as this can permanently dame your motherboard. Choose an appropriate model name in accordance with user's manual or based on the motherboard revision that can be found on your motherboard. Unzip or extract the downloaded bios update from *.exe or *.zip to *.rom file (you can download Winzip for free at http://www.winzip.de/). From the CMOS stup, configure your computer to boot from Floppy (A:\). After the system boot from floppy disk, type "A:\> dir" and press "Enter" to check the entire files in floppy A. Then type the "BIOS flash utility" and "BIOS file" after A:\>. In this case you have to type A:\> aminf330 020429.rom (Assuming that aminf330 020429.rom is your new BIOS rom) and then press Enter. It will then display the BIOS flashing utility on screen. Please check whether new BIOS tag is correct. Right after that, press Enter to start BIOS flash procedure or press Esc to abort. Beware: Please do not turn off the system while you are upgrading (flashing BIOS. It will render your BIOS corrupted and system totally inoperative. When the BIOS flash completed. It will auto restart the system. Immediately go into your CMOS setup (depending on your motherboard manufacturer's configuration, press DEL or F2 as these are the two most popular configuration to enter CMOS setup.) Normally the system redetects all devices after BIOS has been upgraded. Therefore, I will highly recommend reloading the BIOS optimized defaults after BIOS has been flashed. This important step resets everything after the flash. Press F10 and ENTER to SAVE AND EXIT from the CMOS. (depending, for older Pentiums, you will be required to also press Y to confirm that you really want to accept the configuration.) You are done. FOR AWARD BIOS The whole procedure is almost the same thing. Follow the procedure till after formatting the diskette, making a bootable diskette, rebooting and booting from your floppy drive. During the procedures before the BIOS flashing, when prompted, press Y to save current BIOS. If you don't want to save current BIOS, press N to pass this step. Right after that, press Enter to start BIOS Flash Utility. Input the name that you want to save current BIOS as. In my own case, I input 8S661FXMP-RZ F2.rom to save it. Then I press Enter to start it. I was upgrading from the F2 BIOS model to the F3. After the flashing, restart your computer and don't forget to enter the CMOS setup. Load Optimized defaults to load the manufacturer's settings. Press F10 to save and exit. If you want to do any additional configurations in your CMOS like overclocking your processor and stuffs like that (I am one person who likes to overclock my processor. Right now, my processor is running and 3.60 GHz after I gave it a 50% overclocking rate. That is what I call madness of the highest order but, yea, the system is stable except for occassional overheating. Planning to buy a new heatsink though), you will need to re-enter the CMOS a second time to do that. Well, you are done. I would like a feedback concerning my little tutorial. Have a nice day.

Now this is kinda really funny. I never knew that it is possible to delete a file which is in use. Anyways, the procedure being explained by tuddy isnt really a way to delete a file which is in use. At least, not in Win XP. I have tried all those and it could not delete my file. And BTW, does anyone in here know how to delete a windows file (4 winxp) that is in root:\WIndows\System32\dll cache. I have got this very stubborn file in there that is really messing up my OS. Actually, it isnt a windows file but it poses as one and I wanna remove it from there entirely. Thanks for your Anticipated help. Hoping to hear from you all.

Too wide? I have never heard of that before.I know of one type of USB port. The particular one which is compliant with USB 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 specs.Never heard of this before.

Nope...not at all. It is all due to the powerful and very effective optimization strategies I have been applying to my OS that It has been able to run at peak performance irrespective of all the installations and customizations I have done to my dexktop and explorer. Mind you that I am using only 256MB of SDRAM and right now, I am not even thinking of buying and using a p4 motherboard. That should tell you that all my optimizations are really effective. And come to think of it that I am running such system stressing programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS2 and the likes and you know what? sommetimes, I even run these programs with WIndow Media Player 10.0 (simultaneously) without any qualms. Thats kool i think. So, do yourself a very big favour and follow my optimization tips...to save your computer and also make it run at peak performance. LMFAO.......well, the question about if i am into web and graphics designing...the ans is yes...a lot. But on the other hand, am i into porn? That ans is best known to me and to me alone.

Hey man, Thanks a million times for that powerful utility. Damn, I never knew something like that was in existence before until now. Man, I am a lot grateful to you. Regards, Odomike.

hello everyone, I have never flashed a graphics card bios. The carc is an nVIDIA RIVA TNT2 M64 PRO/M64 PRO (32MB VGA memory). Here's the story. I downloaded this system analysing software named Everest Home edition (you can download it by searching for everest home edition in google) and installed it in my computer. After the installation, I ran an analysis of my system and when I was going through the VGA details, I relized that my VGA BIOS is old (dated 2000) and the software was recommending that I should flash the bios if it is flashable. I have gone to the website of the nVIDIA people and checked out if the VGA can be flashed but unfortunately, I was not able to get any VGA bios flash utility in there. I have also checked out other websites and I was able to check out the particular names of nVIDIA VGA cards which bios can be flashed. Fortunately, I should say, I didnt see mine listed amond the ones that cant be flashed and also unfortunately, it wasnt listed among those that can be flashed. Now, I dont know what to do. And apart from that, how do I overclock my VGA's RAMDAC? I have been wondering how I am going to do that and I think it is really going to enhance my graphics performance. Thanks a lot for your anticipated help. Waiting for your replies.

odomike replied to DjLuki's topic in General Discussion

I am using photoshop CS2 and you gotta fill in the serial at the beginning..even before the installation starts while the activation comes sometime in the middle of the installation (before it installs its help files, adobe stock photos and the remaining of the installtion). -
Do You like POPUP Ads even though they pay more?
odomike replied to OpaQue's topic in Online Advertising
dont even bother to use the pop-up ads. I for one, I will never allow them on my computer's screen. Imagine, doing something important and some stupid pop-up suddenly pops unto the screen. it can be quite annoying and irritating at the same time.I hate them pop-ups. -
Should Gay Marriage Be Allowed Should gay marriage be allowed
odomike replied to kahat's topic in General Discussion
Now this is realy a very controversial topic in this thread. For me, I feel that gay marriages should be abolished. here comes my reasons.I know this guy whom i once met in a cyber cafe. I was only chanced to sit next to him in that cybercafe and the next thing I knew was that this guy started trying to woo me. EVen when i told him that I am not that sorta person and I already have a girlfriend whom I am very serious with and will be getting married to in due time, this guy still didnt relent. After some time, I started dodging him and always felt reluctant to meet him or talk to him whenever the opportunity arises.Logic: if these gay marriages are allowed, definitely, the gays will try to get more disciples to join their flocks of gays and who else are they going to come to? you and me who are the heterosexuals. Well, i am still friendly with this homosexual but I try to keep him at arm's lenght less people starts thinking that I am also a homosexual like him. That, for sure, wont go donw well with my girlfriend and I love her a lotn and will do anything to have her.So as you guys will reason with me, they can end up disrupting heterosexual marriages. And by the way, it is immoral and bad in the eyes of God our creator and therefore should not be allowed. -
Cpu Overclocking Power failure on some components
odomike replied to Galahad's topic in Hardware Workshop
well, to tell you onw simple truth, i also overclocked my CPU too and it has never complained at all.I am also using an Intel© Celeron processor which has its multiplier locked at 10. That leaves me with only the CPU frequency tp play with. It has 100MHz as its original frequency and I have increased from 100 to 133 which increased the processor clock speed from 1000MHz to 1330MHz. I also have 2 HDDs (30+40 western digital) and I have never had any problems with them either. Ok I know that my motherboard doesnt have the option wherby I can configure my CPU core voltage or I would have considered increasing that one too.By the way, my power supply pack is 400W and it has been doing a good job. I have added an additional 2 fans (going to add the 3rd) in the case fo additional cooling of the system.I dont think that the problem is from your overclocking (since you overclocked with 20% and I overclocked with 35% without problems). If you should be having problems with your overclocking, then my PC should have gone down the rugged slope a long time ago, but it is still working perfectly without any hitches. -
Ok. got that. what configuration of computer will you recommend for the tasks? will upgrading the RAMs and the Processor do the job? A friend of mine was telling me of a P4 processor with front side bus 133MHz. Never seen that before but I am thinking of going to search for it in the market. If i can be able to get a processor of up to 1.6-1.8GHz with FSB 133MHz, I think that it will do the required job for me.

Intel Pentium 4 Socket 478 Atx Motherboard 800mhz
odomike replied to engalex's topic in Hardware Workshop
That is a very nice and kool motherboard you got there. One problem man...how much is it sold for? Anything higher than #15,000 (fifteen thousand Nigerian Naira---$104.14 approx) and I wont bother myself about it. -
Now, thats what I call some wonder in the technology world. I used to think that it is only the playstation emus that are the only thins that lett you play your playstation games on your computers. Now there is even a piece of hardware that allows you to play you PS, watch you TV, recoed your video (and does it also allow you to listen to you FM radio stations too?). That a real [iece of master work I must say.One thing I dont know is this. Like I am using an Intel© Celeron processor running at 1000MHz(original speed but Overclocked to 1350MHz), a 256MB (PC2100) DDR-SDRAM and uses an EliteGroup ECS P6S5AT motherboard with a SIS 635 chippset. I have tried some recordings of home videos with my webcam and a friend's digicam too but my problem is that it takes the computer quite some time to finish recording and finalising the movies I recorded from a VCR, webcam or even a digicam and editted with Movie Maker 2 (that comes with XPSP2). It even takes it up to20 mins or more to finish a 4 mins video. Is there anything I can do to optimize this computer and make it perform better or do I need to change my FM/TV tuner card?Which FM/TV tuner card do you recommend? Thanks for your anticipated help.To the mods...I dont know if I am posting this in the right sectio of this board. Please correct me if I have posted in the wrong place.Thanks.
-
well, i think they are trying to improve the board and also treat the bugs they've got in there. Or else, thyey wont ever bother.
